Removed, repaired, painted and reinstalled French doors. Removed the French door threshold that was leaking, installed a new threshold sealer and reinstalled threshold. Installed a new screened porch screen door that I had purchased. Removed and reinstalled a bathroom mirror that had come lose from the wall.
From the beginning, the estimator Eduardo arrived promptly to estimate the job and promptly emailed the easy to read proposal to me. I replied that it was acceptable and asked that the job be scheduled. Gustavo (Gus) came to the job the following week with David to personally see and start the job. David spent the day accomplishing the above work and returned the next morning to finish up a few small items. David is clearly a master craftsman who takes pride in his work. While the job fell under the "handyman" category, CGI Home Solutions ( Eduardo, Gus and David ) are accomplished home builders who bring that level of expertise to the job. Don't bother calling anyone else.
Very good workmanship
Easy to communicate with
On time
Highly recommend
REasonable estimate
As mentioned above we went through a major retailer since they were helping us select the new cabinets, floors, and countertops. A separate review is provided for the retailer ? they were also excellent.
Since we were going through the major retailer we didn?t get to meet CGI co-owner Israel Munoz until he came out to for the measurements needed to ensure our new cabinets would fit, to generally get a handle on how to do the job, and to provide the basis for the retailer?s labor estimate.
During the initial measurement visit Israel spent a lot of time investigating a number of possible problem areas in addition to the cabinet installation. He took a careful look at the existing Pergo floor and the subfloor in order to determine what is was
going to take to create a smooth transition from what would be our new ¾ inch solid cherry wood floor to our existing oak floor.
He carefully assessed the area of doorframe leading to our dining room as it would have to be shifted to accommodate somewhat larger cabinets on one side but not so much as to impact the new pantry design on the other side. He assessed how a new natural gas line was going to have to run from our furnace in the basement to our new gas stovetop. We were also concerned that there might be an issue with installing the new floor under a room dividing archway that we previously installed over the existing floor; he assured us that his guys would have no problems inserting the new floor under the sides of that archway. Lastly, he considered how to best customize the selected oven cabinet with our new stovetop and convection oven.
Once the contract was signed and the cabinets on order there was about a 6 week hiatus before work began. During that time we agonized over the type of LED recessed lights we wanted. The design coordinator at the retailer selected some nice lighting hardware but we weren?t quite happy with the recessed lights. We met with Israel at the store and he helped us select recessed housings and bezels to our liking.
The remodeling effort commenced the end of May. The demolition phase went well but took longer than expected because removal of the old floor left thousands of staples sticking up that had to be pounded flat before the new cherry floors could be installed. This would have worried us except that Israel apparently knew this was going to be the case and had included it in his labor estimate.
Next we got to meet David who is both a registered plumber and electrician. David completed the initial electrical rough-ins which included the recessed light fixtures and running 3 new circuits from our electrical box, through the garage ceiling, down to the basement, and back up into the kitchen walls. He also relocated the 220 circuit from our former island location to the
location for the new convection oven. The rest of the electrical installation had to take place as the cabinets and appliances
got installed so we saw a lot of David on and off throughout the job.
We next got to meet Alex and his work-mates who filled all the holes and smoothed out the work areas in the ceiling and walls. Alex and his crew thrn did a fantastic job installing the floors ? we really loved what we saw ? and were sad when they (necessarily) covered them all up with protective cardboard.
At about the same time we met David and Alex we got to meet CGI?s great cabinet guy, Eduardo. We probably saw more of Eduardo than anyone else as that cabinet installation was more involved than we ever would have thought. Eduardo needed to do a lot of custom work on the new island, had to customize the oven cabinet to fit the large convection oven and the new
stovetop, and he had to do lots of trim work that was essential but which we hadn?t really thought that much about. One area that took a lot more effort than we envisioned was leveling and aligning the cabinets and then making the top surfaces sufficiently flat for the countertops.
After the island was installed over the new floor it was determined that the hole in the floor for the island wiring was exposed. Israel called in the floor crew and we were amazed at how perfectly new wood was installed ? we couldn?t tell where the repair had taken place. The wood experts also replaced 2 pieces of wood which we and Israel thought could have a better appearance.
Once the cabinets were installed the new drawer-type microware, the new sink and faucet, and dishwasher were installed
and tested. At about week 4 the retailer's countertop contractor came in and in one day installed the countertops. The next day David installed the gas stovetop, Alex and his crew came in and did some more finishing and painting ? and at last we were able to start using the kitchen again.
We loved everything we were seeing but back during the cabinet design phase, we had elected to remove a valance over the sink that would have matched the one over the stovetop into which the new decorative hood was installed. At that point we decided we were mistaken to have removed it and we worked with Israel and the design coordinator at the retailer to get the parts on order while we went on our 4th of July vacation.
When we got back the installation of the convection oven and the new valence over the sink were completed. The oven nstallation was always a worry because so much modification had to be done to the oven cabinet and so much care had to be taken to route wiring to it and gas piping to the gas stovetop positioned above it ? everything fit fine. At the very end we all notcied that some of the duct work recessed behind the crown molding was showing too much - Israel agreed and he and Aduardo did a great job to move it and hide it.
Lastly it should be mentioned that we were impressed by the politeness of all the skilled workers and by how nicely they cleaned up before leaving each day. Right at the beginning of the job they installed plastic doorways at the kitchen entrances which were very helpful in minimizing the migration of dust into the rest of our house. All of the cutting was done in our garage which they swept up every day before leaving. Eduardo, David, and Alex were very attentive in making sure they were doing things the way we?d like ? often one of them would ask us to come in and look at the different ways they could do things and give us a choice on how to precede. Every day Israel would come by and inspect the progress and address all of our concerns and questions.
We absolutely love our kitchen and have been totally enjoying every aspect of it for over a week now. We are extremely satisfied with the Work of CGI Home Solutions and heartily recommend them.
we will be doing more home improvements and there is no hesitation -- i certainly will use them again. also, i plan to recommend them to my friends.
They are definitely the company to use for any home repairs or remodeling!
craftsmanship, and remarkably positive attitude of the team of workers that
came to my home every day for several weeks. Both Gus and the team
Foreman on the job were exceptionally conscientious and helpful, with a
"can do" attitude that was a pleasure to work with. They dealt
with changes and additions from me with promptness and efficiency. They
were creative problem solvers. They responded quickly to my emails and calls. I
was very happy with the excellent quality of all the work they did. They
were careful and respectful of my home, and left the house clean and functional
every evening. The schedule was met with time to spare, and the price came in
to the dollar quoted. Specific extra jobs I requested were also done
expertly, and for the price quoted. I intend to use them in the future
whenever I have need of a contractor.
