I had somehow thought that they would not have to dig a 4-foot trench to put this water line in, but that's not really a complaint at this stage. The other thing is that I wrote Cardinal Plumbing to try to find out whether they understood enough about furnaces and water running in radiators and things like these to know that shutting the entire water supply off to the house was going to end up as a disaster. It was all a mess of clay and it was dangerous to walk in, and they rented a dumper. They wrote in their contract that they are not responsible for restoring my garden to what it was before but they really went the extra mile on that. They had a couple of guys working a half day plus the expense of renting the dumper to try to make my backyard look better. It's not their fault that doing this kind of thing would end up leaving me with sinkholes and that kind of thing. . Probably the worst thing that happened was what I did not realize and no one ever warned me was with the water supply turned off, my automatic thermostat kicked on and my 65-year old furnace which was in mint condition started to run. If there was no water there, it was going to run dry and that's what happened. I went to church on a Sunday morning and the water supply was off and when I returned, there was a smell of very, very hot oil and something that overheated and smoke like crazy all over the place because of the oil. My neighbor came in at the same time and he was able to do something to the furnace to disengage it. I was able to turn the whole thing off by taking the batteries out of the thermostat, and that stopped the furnace from trying to kick on without water. That is a related disaster that I'm not sure they could have ever warned me about. As far as the job they did, they did a good job but I didn't realize ahead of time that it was going to make such a mess of my yard and I don't know that I could have realized and I'm not sure that they could have told me because they were not too sure how to do this. There was no way of finding the water line. It took 2 years for me to find those leaks and I could only find it when it started leaking in my basement with the water coming from the floor. They were very good and they worked very well. I would have appreciated if they had moved things back in the basement where they found them where my movers had moved them. I now have a couple of file cabinets that are out in the middle of my shop that I can't handle and put back. As far as the plumbing work was concerned, I don't have a leak anymore and that's the reason I hired them. I never did get an answer from their owner about whether they realized that having the water supply shut off completely would interfere with my furnace. I don't know whether they realized that. It was a Sunday and they had left the thing to turn the water supply on and off for my neighbor to use it. It's really more of a question because I would have liked to get a warning of some sort. I have no idea whether their price was competitive. They charged me $7,000 for this job. It was a big job because of the earth-moving that had to be done. They needed one of these bobcats with a bucket on it. I ended up with big problems because of the fact that the water line had to be replaced and that's the function of the Arlington County Sewer Line contractor who plugged my sewer line without which I would never have had to redo the water line. It's all really complicated. I would trust them to do another job for sure and they did go that extra mile to try to flatten out my yard. It just was bad luck that I had finally gotten my backyard looking presentable 2 days before they destroyed the whole thing and I had no idea upfront that they were going to have to dig that much. I'm not sure whether they knew themselves, whether they were going to have to dig that much. It's very possible they didn't because we had no idea where to find the water line that was leaking. I would certainly call them. I would probably talk to a few more people. For what they did, they did a very good job. My disappointment is that their contractors didn't move things back in place in the cellar.
Description of Work: I had a bad leak in my cellar. Cardinal Plumbing did a good job putting a new line in but they had to destroy my backyard which had been destroyed 2 years ago and I had had mulch put in 2 days before.

The plumber arrived on time and did the work promptly. He explained very well what the problem was and what was needed to fix it. In total a nearly two meter span of pipe had to be replaced. The work took a couple hours. He inspected the rest of the line and other nearby pipes (including a gas line) to make sure there was no additional corrosion. There were no traces of his workspace after he cleaned up and left.

I purchased a new faucet in case current one was not repairable. The technician recommended a replacement since the part was worn and a matter of time before it would slip again and water would start to seep around the head of the faucet. I thought was a little pricey. Paid 59.00 Angies deal for service call plus 100.00 toward any repairs. Paid an additional approx. 120.00 for the replacement.

We called Cardinal Plumbing in the morning and by early afternoon the plumber was at the house. They were quick to respond and the work was done professionally. George paid attention to detail and took his time to get the job done. He also took time to explain things. We agreed on the price before the work was done. Very pleased with the work!

Went thru Angie's list to find another vendor who referred us to Cardinal Plumbing. I called on a Thur, the tech was here on Fri, and advised he didn't have any appts open on Sat, but if we didn't mind he could come by on Sun to complete the work. I was amazed. Before he left after the working up the estimate, he even emptied out the gallons of water that were sitting in the pump. The cost estimate came in 1/2 the cost of another plumbing company. The work was completed in under 4 hrs, and the pump is working just fine. Can't say enough good stuff about the young man who came out to do the work. Definitely knew his craft. Will definitely be calling Cardinal Plumbing again for future plumbing repairs.

It was okay. It wasn't very good. They couldn't fix it, but they kind of did what they can and left. They didn't charge anything besides $59. Their motivation wasn't necessarily to do any work for whatever I bought online, but to convince me to buy a new toilet so that I can spend $800 on that and then use $150 credit for that. That was their motivation. I hired somebody to fix something, not try to sell me extra things. I wasn't happy about what their motivation was.
