It went very well. The owner and his assistant came out and checked out the compressor. The coils were filthy and it needed a new run capacitor. They removed the 2 end panels from the compressor and performed a very thorough cleaning of the coil. Had I done it myself, it would not have been as thorough.
Description of Work: Needed annual HVAC service for Trane AC. I have not had it serviced for about 8 years...

We used Cardinal years ago when the first central air unit quit working. We had it replaced with a Trane unit that lasted 17 years. We decided to go with a heat pump as our home is old and has inefficient baseboard heating. We were very happy with the hometown, 2 man crew, that completed the work in about 8 hours. They installed all components professionally. Our heating bills are lower due to the mild winter. We are hoping that this high efficiency unit will help us realize saving over time.
Description of Work: Remove central air and replace with heatpump/ac unit.

Excellent. I think they are so trustworthy. Their honest and so trustworthy and it means so much, and they are definitely American owned so there is no problem with that, but punctuality and being honest and trustworthy I think that's top of the line for me.

Description of Work: They installed the AC in our condo unit in 2011. We hired them every spring to perform basic maintenance. We did this as usual in May 2015. We give them access to the unit even when we are not present. Two days after they "serviced" the unit, it stops working. We call them and they say, Oh we've been meaning to call you. Your unit needs to be overhauled or replaced. Basically, they told us that we could either pay approximately $2000 for them to try to fix a leak somewhere in the unit causing the freon to leak. Or we could replace the unit for over $4000 because the 5 year warranty on the compressor would not cover this. When we asked why would we be stuck paying nearly half the cost of the 4 year old unit to repair it, they blamed the manufacturer, Magic Chef. | |

The manufacturer only gives 90 day part warranty and a 5 warranty compressor warranty on the a/c unit. Yes, the a/c had a refrigerant leak and both the evaporator and condenser coils were out of warranty. We could've had two men to pull this air conditioning section out of this condo unit bring it back to the shop and try to find the leak. Once we found out which out warranty coil was leaking, we would've recovery the refrigerant, had to pay shipping cost to bring in a new coil, gas to bring the cooling section back-and-forth to the condo, new refrigerant, and that's not even counting the labor for two men yet. Please note Cardinal is nice enough to give a one year warranty on these systems when the manufacturer is only giving 90 days. This is the only unit that can go into that 40 year old building because it's the only one that will fit into the wall. This a/c system that we are talking about is a package system, which means it comes pre-charged from the factory and we just slide it into the wall. If we were able to use a different system like Trane we would have done so. I am very sorry unhappiness but we can only put in what fits. I was very unhappy with the job. While they diagnosed failure of the motor and capacitor of my air conditioner, they charged me $568 to simply install the new parts which took about 15-20 minutes. I later determined from calling others that these charges are 2-3 times more than other similar businesses charge. Even worse, they diagnosed (maybe improperly-see below) that my air cleaner needed a new field charger. They brought that out separately and put it in in about five minutes for $375! I later persuaded them to give me a 10% senior discount as a member of Angie's list, but that hardly made up for the overcharges. In explanation of their fees, they said they have a standard installation charge of $375 no matter how long it takes. They claimed the fees cover and quot;office expensesand quot; in ordering and receiving parts. I also found their diagnosis inadequate regarding the air cleaner. They claimed the electronic problem (alarm lights flashing) I was experiencing was from a bad field charger. They also pointed out some mold on the outside of the cleaner but said that had nothing to do with the problem, and recommended a duct cleaner. When the latter came, he opened up the cleaner and saw lots of water on the floor. Also, the electronic problem continued. When I called another heating and cooling specialist, he discovered the pipe leading to the cleaner was jammed causing the water buildup. When he repaired that, at a modest cost, the electronic problem disappeared.
Description of Work: Provider diagnosed air conditioner and cleaner failures and replaced parts.

[Member Name Removed] was very unhappy with the company that installed his heat pump system that is why he called us on and not them to come solve his problems with his system. The first time we were out to his home was on 12/5/2013 for a Fall check. His system was totally set up wrong. The company that installed the system set the air handler up for a 3 ton when his heat pump was a 3 1/2 ton and had the dip switched set wrong the the electric heat. We also found that the timer was set wrong for the air cleaner. It is a good time to note that we work on flat Rate pricing which [Member Name Removed] knew about all the pricing before we started the work or ordered any parts. We did have to go out on 7/2/2014 for the air cleaner and that's when we found the the pins were broken on the field charger because it was never cleaned properly from the time of the install. At which time we showed him how to clean the field charger because the company that installed his system never showed him the correct way. We had to order the field charger from the factory and we gave [Member Name Removed] the PRICE once again. He called back on 7/9/2014 but this time it was because his heat pump was not cooling. We found a bad condenser fan motor and capacitor.Which we had to order. [Member Name Removed] was told the price which he agreed to and the parts were ordered and installed on 7/10/2014. [Member Name Removed] paid for the motor and capacitor without any issues. On 7/23/2014 we called [Member Name Removed] and told him his field charger was in and he had us come out to put it in. Once it was in and time to collect is when [Member Name Removed] was unhappy. [Member Name Removed] could've not had the motor and the capacitor installed and the field charger but it was his choice, he said yes. And, about the mold, the mold was in the air handler and we told him he should have a duct cleaner or a mold remediation company come to look at the mold in the air handler. I understand [Member Name Removed] is upset but all of his problems come in 7 months and the company that installed his system did not do a very good job. Everything has been [Member Name Removed] decision from the company he had install his system to saying yes go ahead with replacing and ordering parts. We have his signature on every invoice. It is easy for him to come on and say things that are not true, like mold on the air cleaner and pricing. We have what we said and I have the prove with the invoices on where he signed for the work to be done

We wanted a Trane system installed and got Cardinal's name from Trane's website. We had the XV80 furnace and XL15i A/C installed Todd was scheduled to show up between 8:00 and 8:30 AM but he was early. They were completely finished with the removal of our old furnace and A/C and had the new system up and running by 3:00PM. They were very professional and did not leave a mess, inside or outside. Absolutely no surprises or and quot;extraand quot; charges. The price we were quoted was exactly the price we paid. We would not hesitate to use them again.

They did an excellent job and came when they said they were going to come. The installation of the new unit was reasonably priced and they did good work. The installation is really neat and well done.Their annual maintenance is reasonable and they can give appointments that are flexible.

We ended up buying a whole new heating and air unit. I appreciate them coming on short notice to help us out.
Description of Work: They came out on short notice on 4th of july weekend to try to fix our air condition unit. He fixed it enough to get us through the holiday weekend.
