I called and spoke to someone in the office to receive an estimate. The person I spoke with recommended a 4 person crew because of our storage unit, since there was elevator access, and estimated 6 to 8 hours for the move (plus 1 hour for travel). The estimate was reasonable, and I liked their recommendation for the 4 person crew, especially since we were on a tight timeline to get out of our townhouse. I called back a few days later to make the reservation, and he emailed me the details to confirm the reservation. I called back the day before the move to confirm the timeline and ask a few questions about logistics. Jonathan plus a crew of three additional movers (4 total) arrived at our house at about 8:45. They very quickly packed up the truck. The were done in about 2 hours. They then followed my husband to the storage unit and packed the rest of our things up quickly and professionally. When they arrived at the new house they began unpacking. It was a bit more confusing on this end, since we had not necessarily clearly labeled the items in storage, since we didn't know movers would necessarily be bringing them in. The team was patient with us, and asked for direction on the boxes. Once they were done, Jonathan gave us time to look things over and offered to relocate any items if needed. Everything looked great as it was. Throughout the move the team was friendly and professional. The were singing while they worked. Sometimes they even jogged up and down the stairs! We appreciated their positive attitude and commitment, even when things got a bit confusing. The total move time came in at 4 hours, significantly under the estimate. Two weeks after the move we have found nothing broken or damaged. We were very happy with our experience and the quality of the work. We happily recommend Campbell to anyone looking for movers.

thank you for the awesome review of one of our crews. Jonathan and his crew get mentioned here quite often and he was probably the one singing while working. This guy never "doesn't smile" He somehow even during the back breaking work we do can remain happy and cheerful. Truely a geat attitude. I and the rest of the company love him. Outstanding experience. The owner of the company picked up the phone when I called and we were able to set up the move on the initial call. The moving team showed up exactly on time, worked diligently, and did great work.
Description of Work: This was a local move in Fairfax County, in northern Virginia, which included a piano and other furniture and boxes.

The process went extremely well. The person who came over to our house to provide an estimate, Wayne, was prompt, nice and did not employ any pressure. He actually recommended to get three estimates before we made our mind. From our previous experience in a prior move, we knew the danger of getting the cheapest mover. While Campbell was not the cheapest, there was not that much of a price difference between the cheapest moving company and their quote. Plus, the price quote was dead on with the actual coast! Everything was predictable. The move itself went very well. NOT A SINGLE THING BROKEN! They loaded all the items carefully in a very efficient manner. They also took care to protect the walls, floors and stairs. They also finished within the predicted timeline which was important for us since we were closing on our old property two hours after the pack-up. The unload went very well as well and they earned their keep unloading the truck. Again, not a single thing broken! I would recommend using them for your move. They were not much more than our cheapest quote, maybe $150 difference. That $150 difference was peice of mind when moving our very delicate valuables. Our past experience with a cheaper mover two years ago
Description of Work: An inter-arlington move from a townhome into a single family home. Due to the closing dates of our properties on consecutive days, the movers had to hold our belongings overnight.

Thank you member for writing your review. You have done your part. Angie's List depends on it's members to come back and make their assessment of the experience. We are thrilled you were completely satisfied and this is what we expect out of our crews that go out and do this work. I appreciate your remark about us not being the least expensive mover. Sometimes with our quotes we allow more time and man hours to cover for the unexpected and don't try to present the rosiest of all scenarios. In the end it is all about time and materials. Unfortunatly in the moving industry there are many many what I call "Outlaw Movers". The internet has made it possible for these companies to paint a great picture and then take you to the cleaners. There are movers that change their name of the company yearly to avoid the press on them. I am the origional owner and that is my name on the side of the trucks and has been since 1978. We do our best. We are not perfect but we do not decieve. Thank you again for the business. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Awesome movers. I was grateful for the Angie's List discount they honored. Monday, September 10th, I downsized a bit after my youngest child moved away for school -- and moved next to where my employer is moving our headquarters this coming November. Yesterday (9/16), I opened and put away the last of my belongings in the new place. Everything was in the shape I packed it. The movers situated furniture and boxes where I designated. They cleaned up after themselves -- no tape, boxes, string, or other moving debris left laying about. In addition, the moving team was friendly and professional. The team lead (on-site supervisor) worked in addition to directing his guys. They all moved quickly and decisively, and were very much on top of their game. I highly recommend Campbell Moving and would hire them again.
Description of Work: Local move: City of Fairfax to Herndon (near Dulles/Sterling). Full home of furniture. At least 50 boxes. Challenging in that some furniture was very large, and there were stairs involved.

We love some of the adjectives we get about our movers. You mentioned the crew leader "Even" worked with the crew. That is of course standard procedure. Our whole crew works every job. We are happy your "over the phone estimate" was just about right on. Andy and I has been doing phone quotes for 29 and 34 years and we know how to ask the right questions and get the right answers allowing our quotes to be accurate. many moves that are going to be less than a full day we can do this. Larger moves and also moves including packing are always done in person. Thank you for the business and the time to write the review. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Best move ever - 18th for me, 29th for my wife (thanks primarily to US Army + US Air Foce for her time as a military brat). -Hired based on a hand shake. -Showed up on time and got done much faster than expected at both locations. -Only one breakage...which is best ever in our experience. LADIES BEWARE: The whole crew was a bunch of good looking Latinos!

Love hearing "Best Move Ever" I appreciate this statement but will admit that it is easy to be better than any move done by the military. I love our country and we are mostly all ex army here but the military hires the cheapest movers they can get and the men on those moves can be less than the best. It was also really funny to hear your comment about our good looking Latino crew. You were no doubt talking about one of our most requested and often wriiten about here in the reviews. The crew leader is named Jonathan and another crew leader is JC. It is a joke here in the office that we call Jonathan by his nick name "Hollywood" JC is married with children but Hollywood is single. Did you get an estimate from us by my cousin Wayne??? He is single too. All jokes aside thanks for your business. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Campbell Moving did an exceptional job in moving our home belongings to our new home 30 miles away. The quote I was given was fair ($2,700 based on a physical estimate), and we ended up moving a lot of smaller items prior to the move to save on our total cost. This ended up saving us almost $700 and Campbell was very professional in adjusting our estimated cost. J.C. and his crew showed up on time and laid padding and carpet protector runners on all walls, doors, floors, and stairway railings on both homes to make sure everything was perfect. They worked so hard and there wasn't a nick on any of our furniture or walls at the end of the day. It took about 6 hours to move an entire household! Campbell Moving maid our moving experience much less stressful and we really appreciate it. We would hire them again in a heartbeat!

The professional moving crew (three men) arrived on time. They promptly prepared the furniture pieces by carefully wrapping each piece with "shrink wrap" and blankets (they provided) before loading into the truck. The crew worked diligently wasting NO time. They were able to complete the move within the four hour estimated time I was given over the phone. Nothing was broken or damaged in the move, thanks to their care in preparing each piece for transportation. Many thanks to the crew and office staff for their professionalism.

Thank you for your business. Even the small jobs like yours helps our company run. Thanks for the accurate information given us over the phone. Accurate information helps us determine an accurate move cost. We wish we could go see every single small move we undertake prior but it is just not feasable. With the way traffic and travel is around this region we can only visit the larger size moves such as townhouses and single family homes or moves that will require a full pack job along with the move itself. So when quoting smaller size moves over the phone we need a good picture painted for us. All moves are not the same and people dont have the same amounts of belongings. We want to be dead on accurate so you are happy at the end. Thanks again and thanks for tipping your crew. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Not your standard move, we needed to do it in two parts ans Campbell's was flexible enough to pull it off. Very professional, punctual and careful with our things I have no complaint with the move. Ours was a fixed price quote that I was sceptical about but worked out just fine. The moving crew worked really h****** two of the hottest days of the summer, we had to stop them a few times to take a break! It was a very good job and we are entirely pleased. Thanks!

It has been said here in the reviews before that our crews had to be "forced to take a break" They do indeed work hard and we try to give an honest days work to every customer. The fixed cost move we did for you are generally only done on "out of the area jobs". Most other moving companies give a formula of weight and distance called a tarrif for an estimate. It quite often is not close. We use the tarrif as well but determine a not to exceed price and sometimes convert it to a fixed cost. Generally we can only do this when we have total controll of the whole pack and move process so we don't have to be at the mercy of how well packed and organized a customer will be for us. Thanks for your time to post a review here. We have found that only about 25% of Angie customers remember to come back and write a review. We know we have done over 700 moves for Angie List over the last 3 or 4 years but only have about 170 reviews here. We are hoping that the thinking is more "Less than happy" customers are more likely to go back and review is true and we have even more "happy members than this forum shows. Thanks Again, Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

The company was horribly late on the day of the move. The 2 p.m. start time came and went without any word from the company. We began calling the owner to find out what the delay was, but didn't receive word from the moving crew until 2:50 p.m. (50 minutes late already) that they had been tied up with an earlier move, but anticipated they should be at our house no later than 3:30 p.m. They did not make that time either and instead arrived shortly after 4:45 p.m. (nearly three hours late). The gentleman we initially spoke with in the office apologized for the huge inconvenience and told us he had sent a three man crew instead of a two man crew in order to make up for lost time, but assured us we would only be charged the rate for a two-man crew. The men who arrived were exhausted and had been working all day under hot weather conditions and were naturally tired. I really felt bad for the crew and found it odd they did not dispatch a different crew to our home as soon as they found out the first move was much bigger than anticipated to fulfill a job they were contracted to do at the time they were expected. Not only did they send a crew hours late, but they sent an exhausted crew. Exhausted crews naturally take longer to do the work a fresh crew can do. I immediately called the owner and expressed my concern and his first response was not to address his customer's concerns, but provide excuses as to why the crew was so late. I told him that was not my problem, at which point he became a little irritated. His answer then was simply that the conditions which led to this inconvenience were unavoidable and were to be expected from time to time in the moving business, but they would work until the job was done regardless of the hour of the day and the crew would not take breaks. He also mentioned that when all was said and done they would give us some discounts to make up for it. After seeing everything I wanted moved, the driver told me he was anticipating 4.5 to 5 hours (including the drive time minimum) with his three man crew. Unfortunately the assessment he provided was most likely based on the time it would take under normal circumstances with a fresh crew. In reality it ended up taking much longer. He then also showed me an invoice with a rate of $150 since there were three men present. I told him that I was working something else out with the owner due to the inconvenience incurred. The crew got started quickly wrapping furniture and preparing to move the items. They elected to move the first floor contents out first, but then wanted to get to the refrigerator and freezer downstairs. This is where things took another turn for the worse. The crew was unable to get the fridge through the same door frame that another service got through in a matter of minutes during our move in to the unit. They spent over an hour unsuccessfully attempting to move the fridge out and were extremely frustrated, insisting repeatedly they needed to move it out first before they put the rest of our belongings in the truck for weight balance. After another call to the owner, they abandoned their attempt to get the fridge out and went on to the remaining items in the house. They completed loading at 9 p.m. at night. By the time they finished unloading at the new house, it was 11:45 p.m. The move that the driver himself said would take 4.5 to 5 hours when he arrived ended up taking 7 hours. I tipped all the men very well since I knew how tired they must be and said we would settle up with the company when they sent the crew the following day to get our remaining items the next morning. The next morning arrived and the owner informed us that we would be waiting for the first crew of the day to finish with a morning move as opposed to getting a crew up front to finish our move first. I began to fear that once again, our move would be put off until well into the day. I also knew that I would need to tip another crew. I spoke with the owner about what we would pay after all things considered and he told me that our move took 7 hours with a three man crew that would normally cost $150 an hour. When I said that an hour of that was wasted on the fridge, he said he was taking an hour off and only charge us $110 an hour for the three man crew (which is not a two man crew price at a discount as promised the day before) for a total of $660 and would not charge an hourly rate for the crew coming back to get the fridge and freezer the other crew could not. Not to mention the crew worked at a slower than usual pace based off of sheer exhaustion, so I am sure another hour to an hour of half was paid for that would not have been necessary with a first job of the day crew. I then asked if he could possibly have his second crew take the 10 to 12 remaining packed boxes to save me from making two more trips moving them myself in my vehicle and I would pay him $700 total. He said this was too little to move anything more than the fridge and then wanted me to pay the $700 for just the trip to get the two appliances since he was really doing me a favor sending back a second crew at no extra charge, at which I balked since he just told me $660. He then said to just pay him whatever amount I felt was more fair. I ended up cutting a check for $675 to the company and paid out over $200 in tips to the two teams of crewmen who assisted. We were inconvenienced and hours of our time was wasted, our new neighbors were less than pleased with a moving truck outside until nearly midnight on a school night, and we were without a refrigerator in our new home almost a full day from the time it should have been there and therefore had to wait to transfer the cold food items from our old home and as a result had little food for our family available in the new home. Aside from that, we were told we would only pay the $100 rate and have HOURS deducted for the inconvenience one day, then told we were to pay $110 with just one hour off the next. In good conscience, I could not possibly recommend this service to anyone. In fact, they already lost at least two customers they could have had, as I told two friends with upcoming moves of their own to go with another service after this whole experience even though initially I told them who I was using and encouraged them to look into using them too. I have also notified our realtor and said they may want to reassess recommending this company to clients.
Description of Work: We were moving from a three story town home in Ashburn to a three story town home in Leesburg. We decided to give Campbell Moving Inc a chance to earn our business after they came as one of several recommended moving companies from our realtor and initially quoted a favorable rate (even though they built in a mandatory travel time of an hour for a moving distance of 9 miles), and mentioned an additional 10% discount they give to military veterans, law enforcement, etc. As we were so close to our new home, my wife and I elected to move the majority of our household belongings ourselves and were only looking for a company that could move some of our larger furniture items, a couple household appliances (refrigerator and freezer) and clear out our small downstairs storage area that was full of already packaged boxes of seasonal clothing and decorations. We were quoted a basic rate of $100 per hour for a two man team with a four hour minimum, with an option to upgrade to a three man crew for $150, which we could confirm the day of and purchase additional hours as needed. No one came by to assess the work to be done or gave recommendations on the number of recommended crewman. They day of our move arrived, and the crew was scheduled to arrive at the 2 p.m. time previously scheduled. We opted for a two-man crew for four hours and would pay for additional hours as needed, which we confirmed to the company first thing in the morning.

Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
A lot to respond to with this less than totally satisfied review. I may not be able to cover it all as I am limited in this response space. First of all we apologize for the late arrival and your generosity with the $200.00 tip you gave the crew. Tipping is not mandatory but certainly very common in the moving industry when a job is well done. We understand how anxious our moving customers can be on move day. I am not offering an excuse but an explanation of the reason this happened. Your move was scheduled to be an afternoon job after a morning move we already had scheduled. There was never an exact time of arrival given you as we know better than to make a promise of timing when doing a move prior on the same day. We are sometimes at the mercy of our customers to in fact do what they tell us they are going to do in as far as their own packing, preparation, moving of small stuff and or boxes on their own. We find that most customers that are budget minded have good intentions on doing a fair amount of the easier work and we understand this. The same customers can at times run out of time, energy and boxes to complete the preparation and their committed side of the job. We walk in on move day and our crews end up with more hours for the process. We cannot just tell a customer we will only move half their stuff and leave them hanging on the day of their move. It puts us in between a rock and hard place so to speak. This does not happen often but it can. Campbell Moving does mostly larger size moves that are assigned with a crew to one home or family at a time for a given day. We are still happy to take smaller moves but highly recommend that when hiring us, it is best if possible, to schedule a morning move so we can tell exactly when the arrival time is in the morning. Any afternoon move is an approximate start time. Campbell Moving rates have been averaging about $50.00 per man per hour during 2012. Whether using 2 men, 3 men or 4 men the bottom line works out to the same dollar amount. In this case you requested just 2 men for an afternoon “small move”. In hindsight we find that it was a good thing we sent a 3 man crew. We would never purposely have a crew working until midnight. If it had been a 2 man crew dispatched it would have taken longer and been a bit too much for them. The 3 man crew that was tipped generously worked for 7 hours plus our 1 hour trip/ travel time charge. This was $1200.00 worth of work. For your inconvenience and having a late night we discounted your move to $675.00. We did have trouble with the refrigerator getting it to fit out the door to your basement. Our crew wanted to take the doors off the refrigerator. The crew was being told not to as the previous movers did not have to do that. The refrigerator was wider than the door. There was no angling that was going to make this work. They did try different things for about 40 minutes because you were insistent it was not necessary to remove the doors. This veteran crew probably should have been left alone and allowed to do the job the way they wanted to do it in the first place. I feel that since the frustration level was already high with our late arrival that we were never going to be able to have a totally satisfied customer on this job. We did dispatch a crew the following day and they went ahead and removed the doors at the start and there was no further issue. There was no other charge for this either. We are very sorry that this worked out like it did but feel we compensated you with about a half price move. We simply could not go any further. We felt like you were trying to take advantage of us the second day by asking even for more work to be done and threatening us with “Angie List Review” The additional work you were requesting the second day was not just a dozen boxes but rather a couple more hours of work. We feel had we been hired to do the whole move from the start there would never have been any kind of problem or bad feelings. The men gave their best and again thanks for taking care of them. I am sorry that you felt let down by hiring us especially since you relied on a realtor referral and Angie’s List to select us. Thank you for allowing us a “C” review here. Since the move to our new house was only 10 miles from our old house, we ended up packing and moving over 100 boxes ourselves. On Thursday, Campbell came with two (2) 26 foot trucks and seven men to finish packing and load the trucks. The men worked hard throughout the day, were polite, professional, careful and service-oriented. I don't think they would have taken a break for lunch had we not ordered a bunch of pizzas and drinks for them. They stored the trucks in their secure lot overnight. On Friday, the same men came to our new house to unload and place our furniture in our new house. They were very patient and helpful in placing our furniture and boxes in the right rooms and locations. We again ordered pizza and drinks for them so that they would get a lunch break. We did have one piece of furniture that was slightly damaged. We pointed it out and they made a note of it. Bill Campbell promptly called himself about it and offered to help pay for the cost of the repair even though it was outside of the contract. He then followed through with a check for our agreed to amount. Overall, we were delighted with the quality and care of service from Campbell Moving and we recommend them highly. We will use them again.

Thanks Member for the great report. I am thrilled you had your best moving experience with our crew ever. I love hearing this kind of thing. I am very proud of all my men and their work ethic. They stay busy from start to finish. Our company now has 4 family members involved. Brother Steve has just recently rejoined the company after enjoying a partial semi retirement. He got bored so he is back part time in the office.Cousin Wayne is full time sales and other administrative needs. My son Matt Campbell just back from Afghanistan and out of the Army is part time still finishing college on the GI Bill. Andy, although is not family by blood, has been my best friend for 41 years. Andy ran his own moving business for 27 years as one of my competitors. He tried retirement and also found he needed to get back to work. I hired him immediatly upon hearing this. Wife Laurie kicks in once in a while when we get overwhelmed. Thanks for you business. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

The move was flawless. Every Campbell Moving employee I had contact with was friendly and professional. From scheduling the move through the actual move, I was extremely happy with the service provided. They arrived on time the day of the move (even early) and worked efficiently the entire time. I never felt like they were taking their time (i.e. padding their time) nor did I feel like they were rushing and careless. All loose items and furniture were wrapped in moving blankets before loading and every thing arrived at the destination without damage. Our move was probably on the easier end of the moving scale but I wouldn't hesitate to hire Campbell Moving for any future moves and will recommend them anyone needing moving service.

Glad to hear it went "Flawless" Not easy to do every time but we manage to most times. Crews care about what they are doing as they know these reviews determine the health of the company. The more happy campers, the more work we get. Angie's List is the single best venue we have ever had for advertising in our 35 years of business. Thank you very much for your time to write the review. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

About a month before the move, Andy came out to give us our estimate. He was on time, and very professional, and you can tell from the way he can eye a room that he's been doing this for a while. He gave us a quote of $4600, with a "Not to exceed +10%" clause. The price would be off by a little, because we had a lot of boxes left over from a previous move. This was based on 8 hours of packing, and 8 hours of moving (I think). On the Friday of the move, a crew of two women and two men showed up to pack our house. They were punctual, professional, and efficient, packing our whole house in about 9.5 hours. They were very careful with all of our fragile items and electronics. In the entire move, we only lost 1 wine glass, when the stem broke off the cup as we were unpacking. It was the last of a set of particularly fragile glasses, though, so we can't hold the packers accountable for that. The glass was wrapped as well as all the others. On Saturday, a crew of 5 men showed up to move us. They were also very punctual, professional, efficient, and very hardworking. The amount of weight these guys could load on their back and carry up and down stairs made my knees hurt just watching them. They had us moved from a 3-level Town House to a 3 level Single Family House in 10 hours including a break for lunch. The total price ended up being $4690. We were low on the packing, because we were able to supply so many of the boxes, but we were high on the moving side because things took a little longer than expected. But, we were well inside the "not to exceed" total. We were very happy at the accuracy of the estimates and actuals. I wish I could use Campbell Moving again, but I just got unpacked, and I really, really, don't want to move again. But if I ever have to, I'll use Campbell Moving. (but, I still don't want to)

Thank you for your review about your move we did for you last week. Angie customers mean everything to us and we check daily to see if we have a new report written. Although we have been in business for almost 35 years Angie's List customers are becoming one of our best resources for new business. It is due to the advertising Angie's List is doing on TV. We have the numbers and Angie has more than doubled it's membership over the last 12 months in the Washington Metro Area from 79,000 to approximatly 165,000. Since we are near the top of the list we get a great share of the calls. The one thing I keep mentioning is that we believe that we only get about 1 out of 3 members remembering to come back and write a review. We know that we have done over 500 Angie List customer moves over the last 3 or 4 years but only have 162 reported reviews here. Our hope is that most happy customers just forget. We think that the "less than happy" customers never forget. Not sure about this but it is my theory. Thanks for yur business and your time to type the review. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

We cannot say enough about this company; they were fantastic! Our apartment management company only provides 3-hour blocks of time to use the service elevator. Understandable when there are over 400 units. Our block of time was 8am-to-11am on a Friday morning in NOVA/Arlington. JC (the shift leader) and his crew showed up on time, expertly unpacked and prepared the moving truck and went straight to work. Unfortunately for us, we were unable to finish packing our kitchen - poor planning on our part as we ran out of tape and packing material - however, JC went to work quickly yet carefully and efficiently packing our items, which included expensive and sentimental stemware, vases, and other crystal and fragile items. While the rest of crew prepped our furniture for transport, all of which were plastic wrapped, then blanket wrapped, and for some pieces surrounded by corrugated cardboard for extra protection. It was at this point that I noticed that there were only 3 of them, including JC. My worries about completing the move out on-time were unfounded. Even with packing, these 3 professionals were done in plenty of time. Now came time to navigate I395/I95 traffic south on a Friday late morning early afternoon. Not a problem; they made it to our new house in decent time and went straight to work. We were worried about the truck navigating the hilly driveway, and/or them having to navigate the hilly front yard, tight corners and narrow stairs leading to the second floor - no problem - again my worries were unfounded. They quickly moved everything into the house, placed/positioned items where we wanted them, and carefully stacked our fragile boxes. No trash, no mess, no problems. The move took a little longer than expected, but not because of them - we realized we had more stuff than we originally thought. In fact, while typing this we're realizing (and feeling guilty) that they didn't even break for lunch, a snack, anything; they kept at their task. The price was reasonable and the service superior. Helpful hint: we bought colored pads of note paper and assigned a color for each room - blue, green, pink, and purple each for the living room, kitchen, den, bedroom, respectively. Granted, coming from a small apartment it was easy; for larger moves, just get more colors. We found no one had to read the scribbling on the boxes and furniture to know where they went, just follow the colors. We also marked fragile boxes in red marker and heavy boxes with big asterisks with HEAVY written on the top and sides. This let everyone know what boxes were top load and bottom load only, and made for an overall more efficient and effective move.
Description of Work: (1) Conducted a difficult move on a very hot and humid Friday from a 780sq/ft 1bedroom/1bathroom apartment on the 23rd floor to a 2 story house on a curvy hill - approximately 30mi between locations; and (2) Provided last minute, on-the-spot quick and expert packing of kitchen and other fragile items.

Hello member, We LOVE that you thought we were "FANTASTIC" You are "FANTASTIC" Jokes aside, thanks for your desciptive report. One thing caught my eye in your review was that you mentioned you were not 100% ready for the move when we showed up. I am really happy that didn't make a good job go South. We find that customers have good intentions on getting fully packed for us when doing a self pack job. Sometimes they run out of time, energy, or boxes. Frequently we arrive to customer homes that are less and sometimes a lot less ready than they were supposed to be. Usually a phone call to us the day before is all it would take so we can assign an extra worker to the job. I am only writing this to inform any potential customer reading this to be aware. Best to either hire us for packing and preperation or try to be as close to 100% ready for the men on move day. It makes a world of difference for all involved. Your move worked out fine so thank you for your business and the time to make a review. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Campbell Moving Inc. called the day before to ask if they could add a man to the job. We both agreed that this would be a great help to their team because the temperature had been over 100 for several days and the same forecast was given for the day of the move. The truck arrived 15 minutes early followed very shortly by a company minivan transporting the team. The supervisor introduced the team one by one, explained the process and asked if they could start. They worked very efficiently and expediently. They laid down all the floor and banister protection quickly and got to work. Words to describe the team: strong with endurance, conscientious, polite. Words to describe the job they did: Awesome, almost perfectly clean (some scraps of tape were left behind. No biggie), thorough. Because of the hellish heat, we supplied all the bottled water they could drink and several large pizzas all from Costco. The team was very appreciative of the water and carbs. Good job guys. I'm not looking forward to the next move but if it does happen then I'll call Campbell. ***Update: Super human effort. Great company.

Thanks for your A review of our company. I like that you pointed out that we asked you about having an extra man on the job due to the extreme heat we have been experiencing lately. When we set up a move with a customer we assign the correct number of men to be efficient on any given move. Being humans as we are sometimes a 100 degree day can wear a guy out faster. Rather than submit a standard 3 man crew to a typical amount of physical work on a job we may put an additional man there just to get the crew off the job and home a bit earlier in the day. These men need rest at home to be able to face another day or sometimes week of extreme heat. 95% of Campbell Moving jobs are done on an hourly basis and if the reviews here at Angie's List are read it is mostly seen that a customer gets an honest effort out of our crews. If we add an additional man we charge a bit more per hour but the job goes 25% faster bringing the total end price in line with what a 3 man crew would do just in longer hours on the job. I am glad you understood this on the day of the move and also happy you had a great move with us. Thanks Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Locksley Court, Herndon, Our family used Campbell's last year to move locally. For the most part the moving went very well. Because the moving went well we decided to use them again this year for our out-of-state move. I spoke with Andy who sent the sales rep out to provide us with a quote. We asked for multiple quotes (one to move into storage, and the other to move partial into storage). I phoned the company a few days later to let them know that we would like to hire their company to handle our moving out of state. I spoke with the owner's son who advised me that someone would call me back and they were really busy. I never received a phone call back from Andrew Bowers or the owner. I called every other day for one week and left messages, but never received a call. The lack of communication and unprofessionalism surprised me. I did expect a call to at the very least advise me that Campbell's would not be able to handle the move. In short, I went from believing in this company to disbelieving and distrusting them and their professional approach to customers.

I am VERY SORRY that somehow this happened. First of all we are embarrased to have let down a previous happy Angie member. Second, we lost your business to a communication error. We would have loved to move you to Illinois. Here is what must have happened. My son Matt Campbell just back from Afghanistan is home here on leave from the Army. He wanted to make some money during this Summer busy season doing some of our moves with our crews. There was a day a couple weeks ago that at about 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm all of us normally in the office were out doing estimates and other errands. We hessitently left the phones with Matt not expecting too many calls that late in the day. Well, this apparently slipped through the crack when he took your call. As far as trying to call us for a week after does not make any sense. We have 3 people with 3 phones in the office Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to about 6:00 pm and Saturday until 12:00 noon.. Your move estimate was around $8500 for the move to local storage and then to Champaign,Illinois later. We would like to have had that business so please don't think we tried to avoid you for any reason. I am very sorry we were not able to take care of this move for you. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

The move itself went extremely smoothly. We were very impressed with the three-man crew that showed up to quickly and professionally pack our belongings. They worked incredibly hard and managed not to break anything. They also displayed an amazing ability to get furniture through tight openings-- I have never seen any moving crew this good. I will not be able to use this company again, however, because the estimate they provided me was so off base. The estimate I received was $1650. Our actual payment price was nearly $2700. I called the owner after the move and, after explaining that I was pleased with the move overall, asked, politely, if he could please explain why the estimate was so off base. We did not have any surprises in our move-- we showed the man who did the estimate exactly what needed to be packed and moved; we were ready on move day (items pre-packed and disassembled); and in fact we had even sold some furniture between the time of the estimate and the move. I wanted to understand why we were charged nearly 200% of our estimate, when the owner had previously assured me that estimates were usually within 10% of the actual price. The owner promised he would look into it and call me back. That was over a week ago, and he cashed my check this morning, so I don't expect to hear from him. Very disappointing bait and switch from a company that I liked a lot on moving day.

Member, First of all thank you very much for the kind words regarding our moving crew. They are the main reason why we have maintained our “A” ratings with Angie’s List since joining many years ago. I completely understand your concerns with the final move invoice coming in at almost 60% higher than the written estimate. However, you mentioned a 200% increase in your review so I’m not exactly sure where that number is really coming from. I wanted to take the time and address some of those issues/concerns here. Firstly, we never have been or ever will be a “bait and switch” company. We have been in business for almost 35 years, and you do not last that long in this business without a good reputation. The majority of our business comes from customer referrals so we know the importance of being honest with our customers and providing the best service that we can. When I came out to do the estimate, I met with your husband to do the walk through and provide a written estimate. During the walk through, he requested a “dish only” pack for the kitchen to ensure the fragile and breakable items were properly taken care of. On the day of the move, the crew packed 35 boxes, which was more than double of the estimate, and this added over an hour and a half of additional time not accounted on at time of the estimate. From my notes, I remember that it was a galley type kitchen so there couldn’t have been that many boxes used for the “dishes only”. More packing was added on the day of the move. The other concern of mine had to do with the accessibility of the truck to the building and the small alley way in which it had to maneuver to get to the loading area. In addition to this, the small size of the elevator in which the furniture was being moved, and the drive time(s) out of Washington, D.C. to the extra stop in Silver Spring, and then finally on to final destination in Arlington, were also of concern. There were a lot of unknowns faced with this move, but from your invoice you should be able to see where the additional travel time was figured in on the estimate. I assure you I did my very best to estimate all of these variables into the move, but it is very difficult to assess or estimate what drive times will be within Washington, D.C. and the metro area. I obviously had concerns once the final invoice came in so I made a point to speak with the movers directly. From my conversation with them, it was made aware to me that the drive time took longer than anticipated, as well as the extra time spent packing. Outside of those factors, they felt the estimate at a total of 10 hours was in line with the move being made. We never want our customers to feel that they have been taken advantage, and we always strive to be within 10% of our estimates - even though the industry standard is closer to 20%. In the end, I’m glad to see that you were very pleased with the moving crew, and I do take responsibility in the fact that maybe it should have been discussed more in detail with your husband and you regarding the challenges that all moving companies face driving in Washington, D.C. and our Metro area. I do sincerely thank you for your business and would hope that we could assist you again in the future. Wayne Brown

The three-man crew that showed up were incredibly professional. They quickly set up and started moving boxes, rarely taking a break. They managed to dismantle my Ikea bed (a miracle!) and even packed the clothes I still had in the closet in wardrobe boxes before I could do it myself. I had already packed up everything into boxes so the move went pretty quickly. The only hiccup was when they couldn't fit my loveseat out the door because of the weird angles of the condo but they still managed it once they took the door off. The guys followed me to the new house and unloaded everything where we wanted it. They only took a short break for lunch and we finished up in less than six hours. Everything was well wrapped and I haven't found anything scratched or broken. The total cost of the move was actually a few hundred dollars less than I was quoted. A few days later I used a different local moving company to help me move some stuff from a storage unit out in Sterling and those guys weren't nearly as good as the Campbell crew. I was sorry I hadn't hired Campbell to do that move, too. Overall, a great experience. It made my move a lot less stressful than it might have been.

Everything went well. Three men arrived at my storage unit on time, and they were very friendly. I had everything packed and placed in a 15x20 storage unit, so getting everything onto the truck was easy. I had a lot of items wrapped already, but they even took the step to wrap everything a second time. That made me feel tons better, because I am always paranoid about my things. Once everything was on the truck, we headed one street over to my townhouse. I have two floors and two very narrow staircases. I was nervous things wouldn't fit. It all ended super. They removed the front door, and before I knew it, the largest item (couch) was up the stairs. They worked quickly. I can't say that they paid much attention to what I had written on the boxes. I had "fragile" and "nothing on top" written on boxes, and those boxes ended up on the bottom of a stack of boxes! Luckily, only one wine glass was broken. In addition, my brand new mattress box spring was damaged on the corner. They must have really dropped it hard, because the corners were reinforced with metal. That was a bit disappointing. Still...they saved me and my family A LOT of stress. My family has always helped move me in the past, and this is the first time that I hired professional movers. I will never go back to doing it myself. Overall, a good experience.

Thanks for your review. I am always happy to read another happy review here. Sorry about the broken wine glass. When packing very fragile items such as crystal and china I reccomend that we be allowed to do the packing of such items or that a customer maybe make a few boxes for transport in a car. As professional packers/movers we are pretty much going to do a better, safer pack job than the average homeowner as we have the correct boxes and packaging materials. A properly well packed dishpack should be able to be dropped off a truck and still everything be fine on the inside. I know I can do it. When in any doubt about precious items hire us to do your packing job. Thanks Again, Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

We used Campbell Moving for our local move from Herndon to Chantilly. Sal and his crew arrived early Tuesday morning and, after a quick walk-through, promptly got to work prepping the furniture with pads and shrink wrap. They worked continuously and efficiently to load all the furniture onto the truck. (We had already moved boxes and smaller items during the previous week.) After arriving at the other house, they again quickly got to work unloading the truck and setting the furniture in their designated rooms. They had great teamwork in getting a sofa down the basement stairs that I was sure wouldn't fit. The whole team was courteous and asked questions when they weren't sure of something. And though the temperature was mid-90's, I didn't hear one complaint about being hot. Very good experience overall.

During the sales process, Andy was easy to schedule with and showed up on time. He walked the house, prepared an on the spot estimate, explained the estimate and gave me tips for saving money on our move. The actual cost came in less than the estimate. When I had questions, and called into the office, the phone was answered immediately and they were very informative and courteous. When it came time for the packing, they arrived on time and were efficient and VERY thorough as far as how items were wrapped and prepared for the move. My china and kitchen were so insulated that I have a house full of paper now that I'm unpacking. The loading and unloading crew were top notch. It was HOT outside on the day of the load, and they worked through it without complaint. They were careful, courteous and hardworking. They obviously knew what they were doing and worked together as a team. As far as the unload, they were very patient which I appreciated. First of all, settlement was delayed by 4 hours and they were able to accommodate the change. And, the new house is quite different so it was not as easy as Family Room items --> new Family Room... They asked me about various things as the unload went along to ensure things were where I wanted them. I was very pleased and so far have noticed no damage! Thanks to Andy, JC, Alex and team!!!

Dear Member, I am happy you are happy and also happy that the end cost came in UNDER the estimate. When we quote an estimate we try to not give the rosiest of scenarios as we know from decades of experience that sometimes customers don't get as organized as they intended. That causes more time which means more money spent. We want to be accurate so we get these nice reviews and please the customer. We have to depend on what we are told will be done prior to our arrival especially when we are doing a "move only" and not the complete packing and preperation job. You must have done a real good job yourself. Thank You Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Excellent experience. I was calling several companies for estimates but when I called Campbell and spoke to Wayne my decision was made. Wayne is very friendly, gave me a quote and explained how they worked and was very patient answering all my questions. The movers showed up on time and were very polite and professional, even when my one and a half year old son decided to stand right in the middle of their way. We didn't have anything damaged during the move and in the end we paid exactly what we expected. We also received the 5% discount for Angie's members and the use of wardrobe boxes. We would definitely work with them again. Moving can be such a stressful process but Campbell made it much simpler.

Calling it an excellent experience is indeed flattering for us. Picking out a few sentences of your review I like to key in on some. Moving is one of the most stressful things people can go through. So many things to do to prepare for like calling phone companies, utilities, change of address forms, and just the general organization of packing and preperation, etc. I did not personally see your move but I suspect you were very well packed and organized for us. This is usually allowws us to do our part and live up to our reputation. Getting the right mover is important so as not to have all the frustrations of the whole ordeal come to a boil on move day with an inadequate or scheming mover. The internet is full of those pirate type companies. We are happy to be able to consistently make a day that most people dread and make it as painless as possible. Thanks for your kind words and your time to write them in this review. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242

Movers were on-time, worked non-stop, carefully wrapped and moved furniture. Only a few minor dings in some furniture which should be excected with any move. I would recommend and use them again!
Description of Work: Move approximately 10 miles from 5th floor 2 bedroom condo to single family 3-story home. Worked from 8:30 am- 1 pm.

Response from Campbell Moving & Storage LLC
Thanks for your review. Sorry if there were ANY minor dings to your furniture. We strive to not let that EVER happen with the techniques we have. Where possible we pad wrap every item of furniture prior to even picking it up and moving it to the trucks. We also stretch wrap all upholstry forniture to prevent any tearing or soiling to the fabric. We wish we could be 100% perfect but the moving industry is tough. We rarely have damages to our delight as our men are bonosed periodically for damage free moves. Thanks again for your happy report here. Bill Campbell 703 435 2242
