I went with this company basically because they were the lowest bidders(checked with five others), I felt like the work was so small and even this price is a bit high. Overall, the work was excellent, they arrived right on time. The field manager asked questions and confirmed everything before starting. Cons: The payment process is shoddy to say the least and it made me quite upset. I placed the initial deposit on my CC and asked the owner (via email) to remove the information after it was charged and I would select another form of payment for the rest. Once the project was completed, I was informed that they would charge the remaining balance to my card. The owner claimed he "did not see" my email. Its a foolish process, what if someone does not have the capacity for a balance like that on their card? That alone dropped the rating to a B. Other than that, they did a fine job.

Installation was quick and the fence is really beautiful. We receive lots of compliments.

The whole experience was great, from getting the estimate (got 6 estimates done), to the scheduling, to the installation. Scott Ruete worked with me in explaining everything. Hugo was the lead on the installation, he was great. The only reason I am giving it a B on the quality, is because I was very thorough in explaining how important it was for the fence to be as close to the ground as possible (1-2 inches) due to owning a small pet, and in many areas we have a gap of about 3-5 inches. I realize they have to install it with the grade, but some of the gap areas were in flat land. Other than that, I would highly recommend this company. They were not the cheapest, but they did offer the best value for the money.

From beginning to end, Dave and his team at Builders Fence did a great job. We moved into a home in a community with an HOA, and so we needed to present a proposal for approval to add a fence in the yard. Dave was able to turn around a quote in 1 day, which included a CAD printout of the fence's design. Because of that, the fence was approved without any issues. Once we got the green light, Builders Fence ordered the materials and was here to install the fence two weeks later. The crew of three arrived yesterday morning at 8:30 and worked straight through the day -- even during a rain storm-- to complete the fence around 5 p.m. They took care to make sure that they stayed within our property lines, and their attention to detail was incredible. Each board is lined up perfectly. I never knew I could fall in love with a fence, but I have! It's absolutely beautiful, and now our little beagle can run around off leash in a safe environment. If given the opportunity, I would definitely work with Builders Fence again. I recommend them highly.

Scott R was our consultant and he showed up exactly on time, 9am on a saturday morning. He very professional and knowledgeable, going over many scenarios and styles of fences as I wasn't quite set at that point. He made excellent suggestions for the short stretches of fence plus the gates on either side of my house. He took measurements and promptly provided us with an estimate by email. We decided to go with all cedar wood (with pine posts) vertical board, 6 ft high in the backyard and then 5 ft with a 1 ft lattice top for the sides of the house (all with gates). We had solicited two other fence contractors for estimates and decided to go with Builders Fence due to the expert service and planning that they provided for us. We paid half as a deposit, they arranged for the permit and the fence project got started less than four weeks after we signed the contract and permit paperwork. For scheduling, I was contacted a week before they started. Three guys came to do the fence project, they worked non-stop on a hot, humid day, completing the entire project in one day. I was very impressed on their efficiency, work ethic and quality of work. They maintained the integrity of the bushes around the fence area as they put the pressure treated pine posts in and started to put on the cedar boards. I very much appreciated when they asked me about my gate preferences when they worked around some minor complications (due to slope of the ground). Rather than using 8 ft segments as other places do, these guys physically built the entire fence, board by board, which resulted in the fence perfectly following the grade of the ground without leaving any gaps. The end result was excellent, now my backyard has privacy with enclosures on either side of the house. They did an impressive job, without hesitation, I will recommend Builders Fence to my neighbors and colleagues.

We were first greeted with a consultation with Tim who was great. He was very patient and took the measurements of the yard. He drew up a plan and gave showed us different fence options with price quotes. There was absolutely no pressure which is why he won our business. We very much appreciated that he did not use any sales tactics or gimmicks. He was simply straightforward and honest with us. We agreed on a price a couple days later and once we received HOA approval, his team went to work. The intallers were all business. They got right to work and installed the entire fence in less than 6-hours. The fence is beautiful and sturdy. I am very happy with Builder's Fence and highly recommend their services.

I had been searching for a company to build a fence along the back patio of my townhouse in Reston. There were a couple quirks involved and after discussing the project with several companies I contacted Builder's,mostly based on what appeared to be a quality job they did for a neighbor. An estimator, Tim, came out to the house and addressed my concerns, made some good suggestions, and wrote up an estimate prior to leaving. The estimate was reasonable and I contracted Builder's. I received an install date but had to push it out a week due to some work I was doing in the patio area, and Builders adjusted for me without trouble. The day before they were scheduled to start work my wife and I requested a change order, which Tim graciously accommodated. The work went quickly and turned out better than my wife and I expected. The fence looks terrific! The whole process, from the estimate to the scheduling to the change order to completing the work to the follow up was professional and smooth. Tim, Ted, and the rest of the staff at Builder's were the best. Thank you!

The board fence is straight and sturdy; the gate swings well; the rail fence looks super! The team lead consulted with us for about 15 minutes, quickly gave us an estimate, and got started on the project two weeks later, owing to their busy schedule. The team picked up after themselves and were careful not to wreck my irises when they removed the old fence. THANK you, Builders Fence!

The entire process went extremely well. Kevin, the salesman, gave me a very thorough and detailed quote. He explained the installation process including how they build their gates on site using cedar instead of pine because cedar is more durable and lasts longer than pine gates. It took a month to get the approval through our HOA but once it was approved, they were able to install the fence within two weeks. Installation took one day. The crew showed up on time, worked hard all day, did a fabulous job installing the fence, and cleaned up behind them. Jack, the project supervisor, was great and kept me informed throughout the day of their progress.

I had a great experience with Builder's Deck. Initially I was a little concerned and frustrated because i thought the deck was going to be smaller than the size I paid for but the owner, Dave Swisher, called me to explain everything and that calmed my concerns. I believe my deck and fence is constructed well though it was built over the winter. The crew was on time and the only thing that delayed the scheduled completion was weather. All inspections passed and I received the paperwork from it. I am really just now beginning to enjoy it and I have not noticed any major issues with the construction so thus far, I believe I have a high quality product. Dave called a few times to ensure I was ok with everything during the process. When the work was completed, I thought the representative would meet with me in person to "close out" the transaction and look at the work but that didn't happen. I did receive a phone call from Dave and the representative to ensure all work was completed to my satisfaction. I would use this company again. I received a quote from them for a paver patio at the same time I did the deck and fence but the quote I received for the patio was high and I went with someone else. Builder's may not be the cheapest estimate you get but I believe they build a quality product. I haven't had to use the warranty so I'll provide another update if I have to use that. Overall, I'm very happy with the deck and fence!

I submitted my request through Angie's List on 4/7/2015 with 3 dates for possible meeting times. I also left a message. I never heard back from the message OR from my Angie's List email. I have since found a contractor who responded, met me the next day and provided a price quote the very next morning. UPDATE: The company finally responded 4/15/15 but I had already selected another contractor.

We were very happy with them. What I like most is they were able to work with our existing structure which I've asked some other companies to come out and give us estimates but they wouldn't even bother to work with what we already have. What we had is really an old fence' I think it was in 50's and I love the look of it but others just want to put a fence over the wall; like it's on top of the wall and post embedded into the wall. They just wanted to put a fencing in front of the wall but Builders Fence did exactly what I wanted which is just replace it but it looks exactly how it would have looked. It was fantastic. They did a really great job.

Builder's Fence was able to come on a Saturday to provide an estimate. Excellenct communication from Tim, who contacted me about inclement weather for the first date for the appointment and we were easily able to reschedule to the following Saturday when the weather was much better. He arrived on time and was very professional in terms of explaining the options and the materials. He listened to the details of our property lines and neighbors concerns and was easily able to answer questions. He provided the estimate on the spot and reviewed options for gate placement. I was very impressed. Ultimately, we opted for another company but I am inclined to go with Builders Fence when we decide we are going to replace our deck, which is the next big backyard project. Overall, very pleased with this local business!

Company representative was able to come out on a Saturday to give an estimate and show product samples. Representative was professional, kind and knowledgeable and took time to provide full explanations, walk the property, and even assist in talking to a neighbor when we discovered the neighbor had planted a number of bushes on our property. He was very helpful in explaining the pros and cons of pine versus cedar and in recommending a style of privacy fence that would work best for us. Price was approximately $1000-1500 lower than the other two companies that provided estimates. Crew arrived on time and completed the installation in one day. (Installation was delayed by one day due to heavy rain.) Quality of work appears to be excellent and we have received many compliments on the fence. In a few places the fence doesn't quite go all the way to the ground as we had requested, but our property is slightly sloped and overall we are very pleased with the end product.

They completed the entire project in a single day and the work was extremely well done. These guys are pros and I would recommend them to anyone.

It went very well. The team arrived and worked steadily and hard until it was done. We are very happy with the results. We had tried to get a quote from another company, but they took one look at the fence and said it wasn't repairable. Builder's Fence worked with us and when I told them I wanted repairs that'd keep the fence functional for another 10 years they told me what they could do to accomplish that and how much it'd cost. They warned me that some sections of the fence would look "clean and new" and others would obviously be old and darker, but I told them that was irrelevant (as soon they'd all be dark). We mutually agreed on the work to be done and the cost and it was all done in one afternoon! Also, the team accidentally cracked a paving stone while driving in the new significantly larger gate posts (which was totally understandable) and the company has reimbursed me for the cost of that paving stone.

The consultation was timely and professional. Ted pointed out that the existing fence did not enclose the full property and, coordinating with Reston Association, I was able to work with Builders Fence to enclose the full property. The work was performed on time and with quality results.

They just took a little longer than they said to get the materials, but they did beautiful work and had great prices. They were very responsive. They cancelled on us, but it was supposed to rain and it did not rain. We were just bombed that we did not have the fence built, but it was not their fault.

Update: I initially had a concern regarding the size of my deck with stairs after reviewing the diagrams that were sent to me following the initial meeting. I emailed the salesperson with my question and when I didn't hear back from the sales person regarding how the issue could be resolved, I submitted a review online based on my experience so far. Mr. Dave Swisher, the owner, quickly called me in the morning to discuss but I was unavailable so he left a message, actually 2. I was able to speak with him when I got off of work and I must say Dave was very professional. He took the time to review my concern with me and indicated he could come to my home to personally review the diagrams with me. It turns out the concern I had was not an issue due to how I was interpreting the info and I didn't take into account an area of my house that projects inward. I apologized to Dave and his salesperson for making a statement about the deck size that was wrong. Dave has assured me that the size of the deck will be the size that I am paying for. This appears to be a very reputable business and I like the fact that Dave took time to talk with me and in a professional manner, even when I had something wrong in my understanding of the diagrams. I think probably a response from the salesperson when I first emailed regarding my concern would have resolved it quickly, but I'm definitely at ease now. Dave even mentioned that they had not processed my payment because I still had some questions and concerns and he gave me the option to cancel the contract. I appreciate the level of effort and professionalism Dave provided to ensure I understood the dimensions of the deck and the diagram, and to ensure I am a happy customer. I look forward to seeing how my deck and fence turn out. I am confident that I have placed the work in good hands. I will update this post once the work has been completed. Due to getting HOA approval, it will probably be Dec-Jan before the work is completed.

This is 1 year after install. Is a Home Depot Contractor. Fence still looks great after one year. Sales person Chris was helpful and listened to my instructions and install team did as promised. Work completed in 1 day. Arrived on time and completed and cleaned up well before sunset. I dont have any other work to perform but do recommend. Also was given 3 fence options with costs and chose least expensive, but quality is still fantastic after that 1 year. Home Depot never contacted me for a review of this business but would have rated them a 10/10

Arrived on time, got to work and worked quickly. No damage to the yard, cleaned up and restored exactly as it was. Could not be happier, highly recommend.

Dave was on time for estimate appointment, provided estimate quickly and was very responsive to requested adjustments. Work was performed as scheduled.

Dave was very helpful in all aspects of this installation. He was quick to respond to all my questions, emails, and phone calls throughout the whole process. The installation crew was very hardworking and did a good job as well.

Dave was the salesman and was very thorough w/explanation & cost. He stated job would start 2-3 wks. The job, to my surprise, was completed 1 wk later. The workers were excellent, completed job in 1 day & actually made a change to make me happy. Everything was cleaned up upon completion.
