It was his goal then and our goal now to provide all of our clients with services marked by quality, dependability and value. Everett strove to give every client his personal attention because he valued your business. Kent did a great job and he was patient with all my questions. I would hire them again !
Description of Work: I hired Bowmans's plumbing to fix a toilet and winterize my hose bibs. I winterized them before but I wasn't sure if I was doing everything correctly. That part cost $167 which I thought was expensive because it only took 10-15 minutes. It has been a while since I have needed a plumber so maybe this is an average rate for winterizing.

Plumber was professional and courteous. The work that he did was done very well. I suspect he gave up on the vanity faucets because they charge a flat rate, and it was going to take too long.
Description of Work: Replaced vacuum breaker on outside faucet, replaced pressure control valve on water system. Could not repair faucets on bathroom vanities.

Thank You for your comment however, the technician that came out to your house stated that he could NOT get your wide spread cartridges out without damaging your faucet. He stated it was very difficult because at times the cartridges can seize up inside & instead of breaking your faucet we sometimes might recommend replacing your faucet. We here at Bowman's never want to damage anything inside a homeowners home. I don't blame my technician for making the decisions he did at that time. Had he damaged your faucet you would NOT have been a happy customer & then we would have had to replace your faucets if he would have broke it. We used Angie's List to select four plumbers to bid on our re-piping project, as well as the regular plumber we have used for years. We live in an area where we have well and septic and the water tends to very h****** the copper pipes. After a lot of research and recommendations, as well as years of having pin-hole leaks repaired repeatedly, we decided on re-piping with CPVC. Our regular plumber came in with an off-the-cuff bid of $15,000, with an estimate of the drywall damage repair of $10,000. The three Angie's List plumbers came in with bids ranging from $6,800 to $8,500 and although none would take on the drywall work, it was obvious that they would minimize the holes in the drywall to the point that it would cost considerably less than the $10,000 we were previously quoted. We choose Bowman's Plumbing Heating & Air Conditoning based on one principal factor - we felt most comfortable with Tom, the plumber that came out to prepare the estimate and would be doing the work. It is very important to us that the person that would be performing the work get a chance to see what he/she has to deal with and that he/she provides the quote. My wife, who was the primary contact on this project, felt most comfortable with Tom and the comments he made as he assessed the work. Additionally, Bowman's price was right in the middle of the range. Although Dana Bowman was a bit reticent to provide us with a reference, outside of "we are highly rated on Angie's List," she did come through with a reference - the 'Yellow House' in Herndon, who gave Bowman's high praise for the extensive work performed on that landmark house. Our work was originally scheduled for October 15th, but due to delays in deliveries of vanities/fixtures/etc. that we ordered, we initiated a re-schedule about a week out. Dana Bowman was very accomodating and met our rescheduling request for the following week. On October 23rd, Tom and Jackie arrived about 10AM, a bit later than we expected but not unreasonably so. We were told that they had to stop to pick up supplies. When they arrrived, they got right to work. These guys were very diligent and worked hard each and every day. Our house was build in 1965, built by a small developer in what was 'the country' (Fairfax Station) and it has quite a few 'quirks.' Quite a few things are not standard and as Tom and Jackie progressed through the removal of the old copper pipes, they encountered some of these oddities. Nonetheless, they were unfazed, dealing with every curve by thinking of the best and most efficient way to get something done. However, they did not want to cut corners. I heard Tom on more than 20 occasions say 'these pipes have to be properly strapped' and 'I don't get called out to fix my work and I don't want to get called out on it here either." Additionally, Tom and Jackie were cognizant of the fact that my wife and I work out of our home and went out of their way not to disturb us. At the end of the project, which lasted until Friday, October 26th, both guys were out here until 10:45PM, making sure that everything worked properly and that there were no leaks. As it approached 7:00PM, we expected them to tell us that they would have come back out on Saturday or Monday to finish up the work as it was just too late. Were we surprised - they did not seem to rush/cut corners to get out of here, even though it was a Friday night. They cleaned up after themselves and only left when we were satisfied that the job was complete. We have found our new regular plumbers!

The issue I have was related to the office manager and scheduling, not for the service man himself who I thought did a fine job. FIrst she was very rude to my tenant who tried to schedule the appointment. There was a $40 balance on my account that my tenant tried to pay, but they wouldn't schedule the appointment until it was paid off. I called and talked to them and they said that they would just roll that amount into the next service and we would pay all of it then and proceeded to schedule the appointment. They never showed up for the appointment after my tenant stayed home from work. When I called and talked to the office manager, she not only said that the appointment was not on the books, she said that they never agreed to take an appointment until I paid off this $40 charge. She was totally looking to put the blame on someone else because it was not on the schedule...and instead of saying "sorry, we didn't write this down" she looked to place the blame somewhere else. And then she hung up on me. While in the past the service was great, the office manager needs to learn a bit more about customer service. Won't be ever calling them again....
Description of Work: We used this company before for service and the guy who did the work was EXCELLENT. We decided to use them again for some work at my rental unit for a leaky sink.

I am confused about your comment. Your rating is way out of line because your tenant was NOT on our schedule & neither were you. First off you still owe the company $49 fee for us coming out to your rental the first time. Secondly, My technician that was on call 10-3-12 clearly stated that you called on that Saturday & he told you to call the office on Monday to get on our schedule. So you called & when you were told you were NOT on the books for Monday you didn't like that. Yes, we mention your fee of $49 that you still owed from the first time & you seemed to not like that neither. So you clearly stated you would call someone else & you hung the phone up. I tried to send a plumber to your rental but you refused & clearly said Ill call someone else. Please get your facts straight before you rate Bowman's the way you did because there is always two sides to every story. If were wrong we say were wrong but in this case were NOT & you still owe $49 fee so please send your payment to our office. check, cash or visa. We strive to make everyone happy but we also know were gonna lose some & win some Its life. Thanks Dana Bowman

Description of Work: While installing a new ac unit they discovered the concrete pad the old unit was on was uneven. They leveled and repoured concrete, at no additional charge, to ensure the new unit was on a flat surface.

Installer did a fine job installing the toilet and was professional and courteous. Rating updated to reflect this. See below for issues with scheduling. Company calls morning of appointment and asks to reschedule simple toilet install from that afternoon to another day. Apparently another job/customer more important despite our having booked several days in advance, our taking time off of work to be home, and having previously used Bowman's with success. Rescheduled appointment for a Saturday morning a week later as unable to miss additional work (appointment was for a Friday afternoon) especially when one cannot be confident in the ability of the company to deliver. We'll provide an update on the service quality and price when it has been performed. Recommend they reconsider how they handle appointments, work in the service as a no-additional cost emergency repair, and go as far as lining-up another high-qualified, service provider for the same time perio when unable to deliver on a commitment.

On the Sunday after Thanksgiving during my first year in my house, these guys were the only ones who would come out to fix my furnace that suddenly broke. It was getting kinda chilly, and no one else (not even the Homeowners Plan buggers I had at the time) were available and/or willing. The gentleman from Bowman's was cheerful and came right over, fixed the furnace in about 30 minutes, and the price was so reasonable that I was shocked. Two years later (in 2006) I contacted them to do a complete replacement of the Heating/AC system and my hot water heater. They had many options available and took the time to explain each one. The installation was performed over the course of a full day, and the staff were friendly and respectful. Everything was pristine when they departed, and the system has functioned without any problems for six years now. I feel confident that should I need their help again, I will receive the same level of service.
Description of Work: Repaired the old furnace that came with my house when it broke. Two years later contracted them to completely replace my Furnace/AC system and water heater.

The plumber arrived on time and called before he arrived to make sure I was home. He first checked to see whether my garbage disposal could be fixed, which it couldn't, and so then he replaced it. After he replaced it, he filled and drained the dishwasher to make sure it no longer backed up in the sink ( a previous problem), and then he showed me how to clear any clogs in the disposal. He also thoroughly checked out my leaky tub and gave me an estimate after determining first whether there was an easy fix, which there wasn't. The estimate to replace my 70-year old pipes to the tub in a very cramped space was $950. I'm going to wait a while to fix that problem, since I rarely use the second bathroom.

This faucet consisted of a pipe with a faucet attachment. The pipe went through the exterior wall and connected to the plumbing under my kitchen sink. I had had 2 previous plumbers look at this. One said it could not be fixed, and they other said it would be too much work for him. Bowmans plumber had all the pieces on his truck and was able to complete the job in less than an hour

We moved into our house last August. One weekend in October our furnace would come on but only blow cool air. Because the HVAC system was only 2 years old it was under warranty (there was a 10 year warranty on it) and we called Bowman's to come out to service the unit. We used them because they were the company that originally installed the system for the previous owners. We called early on a Saturday morning but no one got back to us during the weekend. We were a little annoyed because it was chilly in our house but we relied on our gas fireplace to keep the main level warm and it wasn't freezing that weekend. A technician came out on Monday and cleaned a part and after that it worked. Then two weeks later the same thing happened, the furnace was blowing cool air. A technician came out quickly but we were told by him that even though the furnace was under warranty we would have to pay a $100 "processing" fee. I was very irritated about this so I called the owner and asked him where in the warranty paperwork it said that there was a fee associated with any of the work. He explained that they do not get reimbursed enough by American Standard to cover their costs for doing warranty work so he had to pass that cost on to me. I told him that it was unfortunate that he didn't make enough money on the warranty work but if that was the case he should either renegotiate with American Standard or not carry their product. The discussion became heated and did not end well. He was actually yelling at me at one point and we ended the call. Someone from the office called back shortly after we hung up but I did not answer the phone because I was quite upset. The message on my voice mail was from another employee calling on behalf of the owner saying that they would waive the $100 processing fee if I paid $185 for a yearly maintenance plan which included one check up in the fall and one in the spring. I was told in order for the warranty to be valid I would need to do that anyway. I was not happy about this manipulation but I had no choice. The problem ended up being due to a lightning strike which shorted the motherboard so it had to be fixed. The only bright spot to this mess was that the technician they sent the second time was very polite and apologetic, I felt bad that he was caught in the middle. I understand that maybe heating and cooling companies aren't making enough money on their warranty work but the $100 deductible should be written into the paperwork, not thrown in as an afterthought to get money out of the customer. **I just joined Angie's list and was put off enough by the situation to make sure other consumers are aware of the "administration" fee. While the system check may be necessary the issue was brought up at the end of the discussion, not at the beginning, making it seem like a money making scheme. Overall the whole thing was handled poorly.**

Dear Member, You do have to have your system check on a regular basis or American Standard will void your warranty. However, I am sorry that your owner of the house did not explain to you about the $100 fee. The fee covers administration fees that American Standard does NOT cover to process the warranty. If this was NOT under warranty your service call would have at least been $450.00. However, this happen in 2011 so I'm a tad confused of why your just now posting a comment? We here at Bowman's strive to do our best to accommodate everyone's needs. I am sure we tried to explain to you how this works but at times it can be difficult on each in. I was looking for some quotes on several projects I was hoping to complete at the house. I called during one of the first very hot weeks of the year, and Bowman's appeared hammered by HVAC service calls, so while everyone was friendly, they were understandably preoccupied with getting people with no AC back up and running. I believe this led to my degraded (but still adequate) service over their otherwise stellar Angie's List A rating. At the core, I had two issues that prevented me from using Bowman's. First, was that my quote came in as one big quote, when I wanted quotes for individual projects. The second was that I was trying to get some answers on the quote after the fact, but I could never get a response. First and foremost, I was hoping to get a shower fixture removed/replaced. I had already purchased the fixture, and was just hoping to have the current fixture swapped out, and if the price was right, I was hoping to do so as the plumber was there. This was the first priority, and I was thinking something like $500 for the work (it was complicated job, which is why I hadn't done it myself). Second, I wanted some cast iron piping replaced, potentially in conjunction with two bathroom renovations. This was clearly a lot of work, and was going to be a sizable expense. The plumber had done the work before, and spoke very knowledgeably about all the work required. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, and I had some specific concerns about the replacement plumbing and challenges with the renovation. Without prompting, he identified the same challenges and offered options (both cost-effective and performance-effective) for how to deal with some of the issues. For example, we have plaster walls, and he suggested that there were multiple ways to deal with the walls, and laid out different options for how to go about addressing plumbing issues with plaster, and the costs and benefits of each. This work would also include addressing a draining/leaking issue. I didn't think the leak, in light of an impending renovation was critical, but I wanted to make sure a trained professional agreed. He did - the leaking pipe was a hassle, but would not cause further damage - and a renovation would make the fix an easy one. Finally, I need a new hot water heater. When I got the quote, everything was lumped together, so I couldn't really call out specific projects, or prioritize my needs. I didn't think to ask at the time - I had a couple other vendors coming to the house that day, but it made it effectively impossible for me to budget and complete all the work on the list. I also wanted some additional details on the hot water heater - make/model/basic philosophy on what THAT manufacturer/etc. I know it's a hassle to get in touch with me, sometimes, but I couldn't get a voicemail responding to some of my basic questions. Overall, it was a good experience. I liked the plumber, and he seemed very competent, and the office staff was friendly and personable. But the estimate simply wasn't what I was looking for, and I couldn't get the granularity I needed to have the work completed by Bowman's. I would consider them in the future, though, and knowing what I know now, I could ask smarter questions to ensure I got what I wanted from the estimate.

After several unsuccessful repairs by replacing certain hardware items from the manufacturer, I gave up and purchased a new replacement faucet unit. When I received it, I noticed that the base plate for the new replacement unit was smaller than the original one, that was over 20 years old. The Bowman plumber advised me that the original unit would leave a stain on our Coreon (sp?) sink that would be unsightly because it would not be completely covered by the new base plate. He decided to try to clean out material that was clogging the original unit, and was able to do this successfully, restoring it to it original flow rate. I was very pleased with this result, and Moen has agreed to let me mail the replacement unit back to them and refund my purchase price.I did think that $168 for about 90 minutes work was a little steep, but it was certainly worth it to me.

I did not give them an A because of the total cost of the job. They don't bill by the hour but by the job which means they were working for about $100 an hour. What was done with all labor. This is as much as a lawyer charges. They are no different from any other plumber so if you think you are getting a bargain your not.

I read your comment but I'm a bit confused. You stated that you did not give us an "A" because of the total cost of the job but I'm sure you were aware of the cost upfront because we give that to you before the work begins, so therefore you had the choice to refuse work at the cost given at that time. Our prices are UPFRONT with no hidden fees, however you accepted the cost & the work to be done so to leave a comment like you did I feel it was not necessary but you are in title your opinion just as I am. If you felt the price was to much for you then should have deny our services. Trust me if a lawyer came to your house I'm sure you would be paying double for there expertise. Plumbing is a profession just like every other job out there & that's why you called a plumber to your home because of there expertise. We here at BOWMAN'S stand behind our work & we are competitive with any other company out there. Once again if you were NOT happy with the cost UPFRONT you should have not accepted our service. I was told they could only provide a 4 hour window and that I would have to be at home today between 8 am -12 pm. I took half a day from work to be here and no one called me as of 12 15. I just called their main number and they said oh "this happens, they just lost track of time." The plumber called me back and said well I have a long job all morning so I can't get to you until 2 pm at the earliest. I said, I understand that sometimes schedules get changed but asked why he didn't you me earlier instead of me wasting my entire morning at home (I will have to work today to make up for this). He responded quite rudely that he is very busy and said "do you want me to come or not?" Since I need to get to work- I had no choice but to decline his offer of coming hours late without so much as an apology.I do not expect such rudeness from service provider and neither should anyone else.
Description of Work: They did not show up and kept me waiting for half a day.

We pride ourselves in top notch customer service, however there are instances when our plumbers in counter bigger problems in a job that they were not aware of. Called Bowman's first thing Monday morning and had their repairman on site at 10am. He had to go after the replacement part but had the job completed and cleaned up by 11:30am. Very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Replaced the stem behind the shower handle to provide water to tub and shower.

I can't remember what was charged. Less than $100--I think nearer $80. The technician came before 10:00, replaced the inner working parts of the toilet that would not flush and adjusted the toilet that did. He did not charge for the adjustment.The service was quick and painless. I have no other experience with this vendor, but this experience was good! Thank you very much Bowman.
Description of Work: I have waited too long to write this. Here is what I remember: My husband is disabled. The toilet he uses most often would not flush at all--that is, to flush it, I had to fill the tank by hand. I had another toilet that would run intermittantly. I told them this when I called. First, they said they could come that afternoon. Then a few minutes later, they called back and said someone would come by 10:00 a.m.

I noticed that the pilot light on my gas fireplace was no longer lit and called Bowman's. It took a few days to get an appointment, but the service provider (Tim) was right on time and called before arriving. During the appointment the gas log was serviced, the flame sensor and thermal generator cleaned, and cycled the unit. Tim was very professional. The pilot light was fixed.
Description of Work: The pilot light of my gas fire place went out. This was an appointment to repair this.

Turns out this was a quick fix. The fill valve just needed replacing so he swapped it out. Overall I was pleased with his courtesy, professionalism, and speed. I'm happy to use them in the future. I gave them a B on Punctuality because I scheduled the service for 8:00AM whereas he called that morning at 8:00AM and said he'll arrive around 8:30AM. I couldn't comment on Price because I didn't shop around for comparisons.
Description of Work: My toilet wouldn't stop making that filling noise after flushing.

I thought the charges were reasonable with one exception. The charge for the Moen faucet insert was $135. I've done these myself many times in the past and a good plumber can install one in 5-10 minutes. I even provided my own insert since he didn't have one on his truck. I can maybe see charging that much if it's the only service provided, but in this case, it was only a minor part of the entire service call. I later talked with Dana Bowman about the excessive charge and all she really offered was, "that's what they charge of a Moen insert." Otherwise, I would highly recommend Bowman Plumbing.
Description of Work: Bowman replaced two toilet shutoff valves, replaced the guts of one toilet, replaced one Moen faucet insert and assessed the condition of all 12 shutoff valves in my 40 year-old house. I had described what needed t be done over the phone. The appointment offered was quick (within two days) and conditions were well explained prior to the appointment. The serviceman arrived well within the allotted time (8-noon) and called before he came. He was vary courteous and professional.

I was very pleased with their work and would be very happy to hire them again.
Description of Work: We had a small leak coming through the living room ceiling. Bowman was able to send someone out the next morning and Doug and his assistant Matthew arrived promptly. After a basic review of the situation, we were able to get the problem to recur (water dripping through the ceiling). I gave the okay for cutting a hole in the ceiling and Doug very quickly determined the cause of the problem (the tiling in the shower enclosure has gone bad). He made a few more checks and gave us some suggestions as to correcting it.

I called Bowman's for a problem with a leaking pipe in the basement. The appointment was scheduled for between 1-5 p.m., but the employee called around 11:30 a.m. asking if he could come earlier because he happened to be in the area. He arrived about 10 minutes later, looked at the problem and gave an estimate. While he was there, I also asked if he could take a look at the garbage disposal under the sink that stopped working a few months ago and a water valve that the previous plumber said was "stuck" and could not be fixed without some major work. The plumber quickly fixed the problem with the garbage disposal after looking at electric breaker first and then unscrewing the bottom to determine that something was lodged in the system. He also very efficiently fixed the leak and cleaned up the work area and turned the valve that was previously determined to be "non-fixable." There was additional charge but, considering that I had not been able to use either garbage disposal or the valve to the outside water and that I did not mention the problems when I scheduled the appointment, I was extremely happy. The plumber brought with him an apprentice, who he said was his boss's son learning the job. Both were very polite and professional. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The price was reasonable compared to "flat fee" estimates from other companies. Very pleased with the service overall. I will be contacting this company for any other plumbing problems in the future.
