Bergmann's Cleaning

Horribly overpriced - dont use! I have been a customer of Bergmanns for years and prices seemed reasonable until now. They cleaned a 9x14 rug which cost $200 and charged $400. When I called to ask why it cost so much, the lady said a big rug costs more than a small rug - well, no kidding lady - and she was unwilling to offer any sort of concession. I will never use them again, nor recommend them to anyone else.

We have used them at various times over the years. Price is competitive and the work is quality. They always pick up and deliver when they say they will.

This review is for the Bergmann's outlet at the Safeway on Nutley in Fairfax. The first time they lost an item, they quickly found it, contacted me and I picked it up. These things happen, and I continued to use Bergmann's. However, the second time they lost an item, things went very differently. At first I tried working through Safeway because I left the laundry with them; however, Bergmann's didn't return calls from the Safeway staff, so I called Bergmann's directly. They never found the item, and despite making commitments to call me on specific days to let me know what was happening, they never called back at all. During conversations with Bergmann's, the person to whom I spoke said she was "taking care of many people" or was handling many calls. In other words, it seemed she wished I would just leave them alone. They promised to send me a check compensating me for the amount of the shirt. We'll see.

I've use Bergmann's pickup/delivery service for years. It's very pricey relative to other companies (although modest discounts are available via their website). But I do love the convenience of having my clothes picked up at my door and returned all finished. Especially in the wintertime. Drycleaning has been thorough. Items are well packed for their return trip. And the delivery person is always polite and efficient even following my instructions to leave things on the porch rather than asking me to answer the door at his early morning arrival time. My only complaint is that I have to call to book services. Their website does not provide for online bookings. I prefer to manage my appointments and services on line and have a written record of my transaction. It would even be great to get a price estimate ahead of time. Even with a monopoly on the drycleaning pickup and delivery service, Bergmann's could lose business eventually if the company fails to update and use contemporary tools for the convenience of their customers.

They were excellent. The prices were reasonable.

This was a horrible experience. I took my dry cleaning to the Bermann's at the Safeway in Kingstowe (Alexandria, VA) for the first time. When I went to pick up my dry cleaning two of my expensive silk tops were missing. My Christmas tree skirt was ruined, but I didn't even bother arguing over that as it wasn't overly expensive and I was much more concerned about my tops. The person at the Safeway was very nice and called Bergmann's and she said they don't know where the tops are, but I would get a call directly from Bergmann's later that day. This was a Friday and I did not receive the call. I called back the following week and was asked if they could have another week as they had a "major trace" out on my tops. Now, I understand people probably scam to get more than what their clothes are worth in a situation like this, but my tops were a year old (so I didn't have the receipt) but they were very expensive around $200 a shirt. After another week, Bergmann's finally resigned to the fact that they couldn't find my tops asked me how much they cost and I told them $180 a top. Jeff Bermann was out of town and supposed to call me in a few days. He did not, so I called and was told he would call me the next day. I got a rude and curt email from Jeff Bergmann, barely apologizing for the fact HIS COMPANY lost MY tops and said without a receipt he could only offer me $75 a top. I still can't get over how rude he was on his voicemail and then again when I got him on the phone. He said over and over again that "all he could offer" was $75 a top and he "has to get this settled." He was rude, and had NO CONCERN whatsoever for the fact that this was not my fault, but his companies fault for losing my tops! I told him I spoke to my attorney (which I did) and knew I had very little recourse here. I took the $150 bucks as a I had no other choice. I was told the check would arrive in a week, and it didn't. I followed up and finally got the check a week after that. The customer service with this place is beyond horrible and that goes all the way up to Jeff Bergmann himself. I understand things happen, but some semblance of customer service would have been appreciated. So, to sum things up, they ruined my Christmas tree skirt, lost two tops, and were rude to me as if this was my fault. In my opinion from this one experience, the quality and customer service are beyond horrible and I don't recommend risking taking your business to them.

I've used the Bergmann's location at the Safeway store in Burke Center for laundering my shirts. When I ask that they be returned on hangers, the work is average, Occasionally shirts have come back damaged. This week, because of plans to travel, I requested that the shirts be returned folded in a box, a service that costs extra. When I dropped the shirts off, I confirmed that the proper instructions were on the form, including the request for the shirts to be boxed. When I went to pick up the shirts today, they were on hangers. However, I was charged for boxed shirts. This has now happened three times in a row. I guess it's my fault that I'm a slow learner, but this is it for Bergmann's. In this one, fairly simple basic task for a laundry, they've failed consistently. Fortunately, the management at the Safeway store realized the error and didn't charge me for the shirts, which I appreciated. But I still need this done right.

The service was excellent; sofa covers were picked up and delivered to the building front desk in a timely fashion. The price is a bit high, but they do a good, careful job

Overall, the experience has been great so far. The end results have been done well, and the serivice has been excellent. We've also saved an enormous amount of money, since the last company we've worked with charged us four times as much as Bergmann's does, but they do just as good of a job.

My wife had a good experience with Bergmann's Dry Cleaning. They were efficient and courteous. Our overall experience was excellent. The price was medium to high. I think you pay a bit more for better service.

They’ve been excellent for the last fifteen years may be. You don’t have to schedule so far in advance. You can measure your rug and roll them up, and they do trust you. They clean the rugs and they return them to your front porch. They are always reliable and they do a great job. I’ve never had one complaint. Their price is fair. They will treat them to be stain resistant too. I think their prices are competitive. I will use their services again in the future and actually I’m getting ready to right now.

Easy to make an appointment for pick up...necessary since I needed the carpets back quickly for an event I was hosting. The 3 carpets came back looking great, although one still had a slight pet smell. Staff was very nice...professional and prompt. Estimate right on target.

terrible cleaning -- question whether any cleaning was done at all.

I would not recommend them to others. They are dry-cleaners within the grocery at the customer service portion. They do dry-cleaning, carpets and anything. I think that they do pickups in Maryland, Virginia, and DC. I will not use them again. The blouse looked worse when it came back than when I took it. It was messed up and it wasn’t pressed well. It just did not look well. I thought I would try them because I go to the grocery, but it was a big mistake and I won’t do that again. I spent about $7 or $8 on the last service and I thought that they were pricey. The customer service people at the grocery store pick up the stuff from the truck. They are the people that have nothing to do with the dry-cleaning and are not responsible for the quality. It is not done in-house but is taken somewhere else by truck and brought back. I have to wait a week and it is not like I can drop it today and pick it up tomorrow. It is not really customer service oriented and it is not the grocery place’s fault.

Colors in Moroccan carpets bleeding indigo after cleaning. Dhurry room sized carpet saturated with unpleasant and powerful "deodorizer", stains not removed, carpet not noticeably cleaner . Drapes also "deodorized" heavily. I requested cleaning only, not deodorizing, which was unnecessary. Drapes were not ready as scheduled.

I called several rug-cleaning companies, but most had no interest in anything but full-size rugs to be cleaned in-home. Bergmann's gave price and full information online. I dropped the rug off to their Maryland store. Picked it up again two weeks later.

They seemed kind of rough. They seemed to be destroying my carpet.

I was very happy. It was all on time. They did miss a spot and I am going to have the rug re-cleaned.

They didn't have to take them down I had done it already. They did bring them back and rehang them and the sheers were wonderful,but the drapes and shags were wrinkled but they said they would work out and they did.

They are good because they pick up and drop off for you. They came on time. I have left things there longer than I should have and they have always been great about it. They are courteous on the phone and do good work.

When my husband went back in March to pick them up, he had the receipt, he was told they had been disposed of, due to lack of pick up. The receipt says Bergmann's will not be responsible for items left more then 3 months. I was truly shocked. They were not on the premises, and no one could say where they were. I called and spoke to Jeffrey Bergmann, he said he would attempt to locate them, but made no promises. He lost his temper a bit, but got it under control. My gripe is, how could they, in conscience, neglect to give a phone call. My phone number was on the receipt. I wonder how many other people this has happened to over the years, and I wonder why they find it more convenient to "dispose" of the rugs rather then make a courtesy call, then get rid of them. Finally, he was able to retrieve one of the three.

I am very pleased with the work this guy does for me because my carpet looks great and I love it. They work pretty fast and overall I'm very pleased, I would definitely recommend them to other people.

The owner is non-responsive. They damaged something and did not fix it. They ignored me. I would never recommend.

Every shirt came back extremely wrinkled at the cuff and sleeve. The wrinkles appeared to be the kind that get pressed into the fabric at a very high temperatures. The wrinkles were so noticeable the shirts could not be worn, nor could a regular iron fix them. I submitted a nicely-worded complaint through Bergmann's website and a reply came that was extremely unprofessional. It noted that shirts were only 99 cents with a Safeway card (essentially "you get what you pay for") and that they use the best pressing machines on the market. No apology, no "we'll take note of it", and definitely no offer to re-do the shirts or refund my money.
