Barrier Termite & Pest Control

Provided service to Barrier that they never paid for after months of lies about financial problems and other stories. As the other reviews show, their practices are not professional and are consistently dishonest. At the same time as our experience, they had cheated another friend in the same manner. Very disappointed.

I cannot recommend Barrier Termite and Pest to anyone for any reason. Barrier provided the Termite Letter for the house we bought in McLean, VA in June 2013 — basically a guarantee that the house was free of active termite infestations and termite damage. Unfortunately, the inspector did a very cursory examination and did not bother to open the stairs to our attic even though the inspection contract stipulates that they will enter the attic if accessible. Shortly after moving in, we removed some rotting timbers in our courtyard and discovered a large colony of termites. Barrier came out and treated but dismissed our concern that these same termites might also be in the house. Almost ten months later, we notices some dead insects and debris in our attic. Barrier sent a out a technician who not only identified the insects as termites but found extensive damage in a truss beam after four minutes of inspecting. Given what he found, he inspected the same wall on three different levels and quickly found additional damage in our basement. When I contacted Barrier, they agreed to have someone come and treat our attic. However, they refused to repair any of the termite damage. Worse, the continually missed or postponed appointments forcing us to take off work multiple times. A Termite Letter from Barrier means little. And there is no consequence to them failing to inspect your home adequately. They will merely shrug and spend ten minutes on an additional treatment. To cap things off, despite our disappointment in their “services”, they assumed that we wanted to renew the termite agreement and constantly billed us, including interest charges when we did not pay. I’m not sure how anyone can stay in business treating customers this way.

Reported absence of termites. Since the inspection there have been multiple occurrences of termite infestation.

They send me a postcard when they're coming out and they have a date and time. If it doesn't work out, you call them and reschedule and that's been no problem. They come to the door and they ask if I have any problems inside or out with any pests or anything and then they treat it if we do.

Went well - they were punctual, quick, and very professional.

I've used them for about 8 months. They do a good job. They are very customer friendly and are always on time.

They are responsive. I will use them again in the future.

Barrier was the most informative and most reasonable of the pest control companies that I queried. Furthermore, the company sends the same technician to the home so they can become intimately aware of the situation.

Barrier Termite and Pest is very prompt, very reliable, and delivers the service as expected. No further pest issues have occurred, and we have been very happy with work and with the price.

I pay for their services on a quartely basis and they come as often as you need them. They found three nests of ants outside. They went over to my neighbors house four times and killed their ants for free just so that they wouldn’t continue to come over to my home. He even offered to caulk the outside of my window for free if that treatment didn’t work. They are a small company that is absolutely wonderful. They even bring my mail in. I am very happy with their services.

The tech came to our home as scheduled and was very friendly. He did a thorough inspection of our kitchen and also the rest of the house for entry points. He sealed and applied bait and it's been working so far. So far we haven't had any reoccurring issues!

They took care of the problem. They were fine. I was around, when they were working. They came in, and they were very professional. They did what they were supposed to do. We just got the termite on time; so now we have the one-year warranty.

The service technician from Barrier was on time and seemed perfectly nice. He assured me that the area in question was not termites. The reason I give this company a low rating is that the tech then tried to sell me on almost $1000 worth of work. At first I was told it was guaranteed to stop termites (that may or may not be there), and that it would work for 10-12 years, but then was told I should have it re-treated every year for $100. Furthermore, the company made no guarantees about future termite damage. While I (sort of) realize the basis for which the technician was making statements, I still felt like I was being scammed. I attempted to get clarity from the technician, but I felt like he was talking circles around me in an attempt to make me think I needed to spend a lot of money. So, just an overall bad "gut feeling" about this company. I wouldn't use them in the future.

They were absolutely outstanding! Their work is guaranteed for 5 years. Even when we sell our house, the warranty stays with the house. If we or new owners have trouble the service or upkeep of the block it will be free. We blocked the mice in, and they immediately came to fix that. If I could, I would give them an A++++

After the home was purchased, we discovered a variety of problems that the inspector should have seen, and never pointed out. We are extremely dissapointed in this company. Our realtor called them back, and Barrier sent someone else to take a look at the issues we were having, and this new person told us that we needed a new roof, and correct grading outside. This new person also promised us an estimate, that, two months later, we are still waiting for. The prior inspector (company owner I believe) had not only missed the roof issues, but the fact that there was a drastic water leak into one of our rooms that had warped the floor...something any inspector worth his salt should have caught. We would have never bought the house had these issues been pointed out. We would never use this company again, and would highly caution anyone against using them.

The buyers agent hired Barrier to do an inspection, and they supposedly found evidence of termites near (but not in) the house. I was then required to have the site treated. I contacted Barrier for an estimate but never authorized work to be done. I do not want my family or dog around the pesticide, so I had planned to schedule service before we left on vacation. Barrier took it upon themselves to do the work without my authorization, exposing my family to toxic chemicals. I was horrified to learn what they had done. The stench of the pesticides lingered in my house for days. We did not have the opportunity to close windows or prevent people or animals from tracking the pesticides into our home.

It went well. They were excellent when it came to punctuality and professionalism. I decided against using the product that they had available, though.

They were professional, but they wanted to do a lot and it was going to be expensive. We decided not to do it with them.

It was a nightmare. They came and said they squirted in a substance to make the squirrel leave. Then they blocked the hole. All week I could hear it scuffling around getting weaker. They were suppose to come but a snow stopped them. They couldn't reschedule for another week. Finally I called them in tears insisting they come RIGHT NOW and free the squirrel. They did come. Then they had to return to put a one way door on the hole. I do not know why they didn't do that at the beginning. IT took a total of 3 months to get the job done. If they had done a humane job from the start it would have been OK but they did the easy thing and hoped I wouldn't mind the squirrel suffering and dieing while I showered in the bathroom under it. I blame the first technician for this blunder. He convinced me that the squirrel was gone. Then I was not happy that they put me off when I wanted them to return to rescue the squirrel. To their credit, when I got nearly hysterical and insisted they did come back. After that they were pretty responsive and acted responsibly towards the wildlife.

They had someone out there within an hour after I called them. They did the work very quickly. They were able to work around our schedules. They showed up on time to do the work.
