All the work Victor did was excellent. I appreciated that he took a harder (moving cabinets) but better (than cutting) approach to fitting in the new refrigerator when possible. And I am grateful that he came to fix the problem on very short notice.
Description of Work: Victor both moved and cut away some kitchen cabinets to make room for a new refrigerator. He also did a few odds and ends type jobs including fixing a leaky faucet.

Victor was very responsive and always punctual. It was obvious he had the knowledge to complete every facet of the job and easily communicated that to his crew. They were all courteous, worked diligently and were very good about keeping the access to the work area (our carepted floors) clean as well as cleaned up the job site on a daily basis. They did an excellent job on the room. Upon completion of the project Victor inspected the entire job and fixed any minor defects he found without hesitation. We were very satisfied with his work and would definitely use his services again.
Description of Work: Finished a small basement room and turned it into a gym. Framed, drywall, electrical, ventilation, insulation and painted the room. He added shelves to a storage area behind the room as well.

Mr. Menendez and crew were convivial, pleasant, timely and professional. He personally coordinated the schedule, which was complex because the new vanity top and the new door arrived several weeks apart and the weather changed several times, and he did so in a way that acknowledged and accommodated our interests and concerns. His measurements and cost estimates were accurate and his predicted completion periods were met. He was responsive throughout, using e-mail and telephone with equal effectiveness. He acknowledged all communications. He showed a commitment to our convenience in several ways: by specifying in advance that the particular door we ordered would fit the opening that would result from removing the center section of the bay window; by adjusting his work schedule to our travels; by adding the column paint job in the middle of the other work, and by himself picking up the new door from Home Depot. We chose a relatively expensive door to match other doors and windows in our house, and the quality of the finish work that he and his crew delivered matched the high quality of the door. The workmanship he delivered on the columns and the vanity top were consistent with the workmanship on the door installation and the associated step. He added some interior painting without charging. His crew did a fair job of cleaning up each evening before leaving. At the end of the job, he invited us to list the problems we had so as to ensure he would fix each one. He addressed each of the concerns we mentioned on our list. We thought it particularly significant, and reflective of Mr. Menendez's experience and know-how, that he was the only one of three contractors we queried who was willing to remove the center part of an integral bay window. Overall, we got a sense of reliability, expertise, predictability, thoroughness, and cooperativeness.
Description of Work: Mr. Menendez and his crew installed a new countertop onto a vanity; substituted composite lumber for wood trim on our four porch columns, then painted the columns; and substituted a door for the center section of a bay window, installing a step to allow ascending from the deck through the door into our kitchen.

Victor was courteous and kept me in the loop e.g. he showed me rotten brick molding and told me he needed to buy some (he had purchased door jamb prior to arriving). The main issue I had with him is cost. Although he told me it would not cost more than $300 to $400, he also told me that it could be 4+ hours of work. When I questioned him on this he said that although it took him 3 hours, there was more work than he had estimated. I mentioned that it was barely 3 hours and he said that it was $75 per hour per person (he had a helper) AND that he was charging for travel time. (His site says, 'NO TRAVEL CHARGE'.) IMO, it should have been $225 plus materials which would have probably put it somewhere around $250-275 (I asked for an invoice because I wanted to see the cost of the supplies but they werent itemized!) In addition, he originally told me that he would throw in the painting and then was reluctant to do so. Bottom line: get a good quote and be prepared to pay top value. BTW, despite this, i asked him to give me a quote on deck work and it seemed reasonable, but as i have not heard back from him and i had forgotten that his site said no travel charges, i'm starting to have second thoughts

Victor is a great guy and very responsive. His prices are fair. However, be aware that it is not necessarily Victor himself doing the work. On this job, 2 individuals - one who appeared to be competent (but spoke no English) and one who appeared to have no idea what he was doing - did the work. The tile cutting was very well done, but this was definitely not a precision job. I spent several hours going over the floor afterward with a razor blade removing excess grout that the workers left to dry on the tiles. There's also already a small crack in the grout between a couple of tiles, and the grout appears really hastily applied. Also, Victor did not even appear after the job to do any sort of quality control or review of the work, which is sort of unsettling. I might use Victor's services again because his prices seem reasonable (considering the price-to-quality relationship), but in the future I'd emphasize that he needs to follow through and do an inspection of the work if he sends subs or day laborers out to perform the job.

They were on time and cheerful everytime they arrived at my home. A few times they found unforseen difficulties while completeing a task. Each time Victor was able to arrive at a solution, often a very creative one. At one point, Victor found extensive damgae to a load-bearing beam on an exterior wall. He was able to make an estimate to repair the damage, schedule time to do the work immediately, and get the job done. A week later, I had a problem with a minor item he had fixed. I callled him and he was at my house the next day, bright and early.
Description of Work: Victor and Joel replaced four light fixtures, repaired drywall in the ceiling in three places where there had been water damage. They replaced the innards of three toilets and two vanity faucets. They also repaired some dryrot damage on a door jamb and repaired a french door. They repaired unexpected damage to a load-bearing beam.

First, let me say that Victor is personable, polite and friendly. He was very good at returning calls and was a good listener who seemed to understand what I wanted. And his team completed what I wanted, but the quality was pretty shoddy. Let's start from the bottom up. They laid down MVP (moisture vapor protection) on the cement floor EXTREMELY unevenly. In some places it's 1/8" thick, in others it's 3/4". His son, while texting on his phone 15 times an hour, did this work. He ruined a carpet of ours by tracking MVP onto it and there was some stuck to the walls. The installers didn't correct the unevenness before applying the glue and hardwood floors, which caused the floor to have slight ripples throughout. It was probably my mistake to proceed with this job as Victor told me that he'd never done hardwoods on concrete before. They were initially cleaning the glue residue off the floor with paint thinner, which dulled the surface on many of the pre-finished wood planks. I had to tell them about the glue remover made by the glue manufacturer. After they went and picked up the glue remover, they didn?t read the directions and used it incorrectly. There were still countless spots where the glue cured to the surface of the floor. There were also several points where the floor had gaps in it where it shouldn?t have. This is mainly why I didn?t do it myself and wanted professionals, so that I didn?t have a huge glue mess everywhere. He removed the wall and put up the necessary beams, which are nicely hidden, like I asked for. The finish work was truly awful, though. The wall he put up is bowed and required lots of plaster and sanding from me before it was ready for paint. The ceiling they installed also needed patches and sanding. Victor said the job would take a week, it ended up taking 10 days. We just had a flood in our house (this is 6 months after Victor?s work) and I had to rip up all the hardwood floors that Victor?s team installed because they were damaged beyond repair from the water damage. I had noticed how crooked the floor was when I was installing the quarter-round, but after removing the floor and seeing just how sloppy of a job was done with the MVP, it all has to be removed. It cost like $800 for all the MVP (out of my pocket, not included in the above price) and it all has to be thrown out simply because of the poor workmanship. It?s frustrating because if it was done correctly, I wouldn?t have to pay the extra cash to have it removed. It seems like Victor himself is very good at the work, but his crew isn?t. Whatever Victor did was nice, quality work. Whatever his crew did was rushed and sloppy. Plus, none of his crew spoke English, so it was really hard to communicate with them.

Just an estimate. It was for detailed work and I didn't think they were up for the job. I should have been looking for a master carpenter. He actually said I should "just live with it." He's probably fine for less detailed skilled things though. I was also a little nervous about the son and his dress code. I just kept thinking of the story of the police who were able to catch the robber they were chasing because his low-riding pants fell down to his ankles. I'm probably just getting old though and I'm no longer a hip chick.

It went really well. Victor is a great guy and really knows his stuff. He even took care of a last minute plumbing problem I had with a sump pump at no extra charge!!! I will be using him all the time from now on!!!!
Description of Work: 1) Cut a wooden pole that I have to fit in my closet so I can put clothes hangers on it. 2) Hang a new medicine cabinet door in my bathroom. I have the new door and its ready to go. 3) Widen a floor vent hole in my bedroom floor so that the register fits properly. The vent hole in the floor is too small by 1/4 inch. 4) Fix two very slow leaks in the PVC fresh water line under sinks in my bathrooms. Tighten faucet fittings. 5) Move wall vent hole in my kithcen so that the register fits properly. May require a very small piece of drywall to build up the opening. 6) Fix gap in wood floor by vent register in the family room. The gap is about 1/4 inch and I have extra wood flooring you can use to cut a patch piece. 7) The water valve for the house under the deck has a very slow drip. I think the valve is old and bad. This needs to be replaced. It drips about 1 drop of water every 2 seconds or so. 8) I am missing about 6 shingles on my roof which have blown off. I have a box of new shingles you can use on the roof. 9) Nail some pieces of wood trim to the baseboard using small finishing nails. 10) Repair torn screen on exterior screen door.

Victor is polite and well-mannered. He came one evening to take a look at the room in which I wanted a coffered ceiling. A few days later, he emailed me an estimate. I accepted and told him to proceed. He asked for a deposit (approx. 40%) and said it would be done in 3 to 4 days. The next day, Thursday, his crew came 1-hour late. They set up their equipment and left. Friday, they started working. Victor called me at work for something and I told him I'd be home early to take a look at this concern. I left work early to meet him and when I got home, my wife told me he left. (He had already broken an appt. with me without even calling). Saturday morning, Victor called me and said his helper has a toothache so they're not coming. I was disappointed because they left on Friday without cleaning up their mess in this room which was central to my main-floor of the house. I have three young children as well as three other young kids staying with me and I had to block off that area since it was unsafe (I was finding nails outside of the room they were working in). I asked them to use the front door to get in and out of the house, but they kept going through my kitchen. Victor's concern was the uneven ceiling; he said I needed an extra trim to close the gaps. I agreed to pay him more. They finally finished the job after a week (he initially said 3 to 4 days) and it ended up costing more than he estimated. When Victor came for the estimate, he took off his shoes. When they were working, his crew wore their dirty, wet shoes all over the house, including the kitchen and UPSTAIRS. By this time, I was already frustated by his lack of professionalism that I just let them do their work so they would quickly finish and leave. They did a terrible job cleaning up their mess. When I told him his work was good but his work-ethic wasn't, he said "that's your opinion," and grabbed his paycheck and left. I chose him based on his report card on this website and his reply to my initial email inquiring about his services.

They were polite, courteous and punctual. The only complaint I have is although he told me when they were out for the estiamte that the screen door was not a standard size, the proposed solution did not work out which left a gap at the bottom of the screen door. He promised to come back and put an extra tall sweep at the bottom, but he did not return.

They came out quickly to look at the room and discuss the work to be done. The remodel involved a header in a load bearing wall and cutting into an exterior wall for two windows. I think this was beyond their ability or interest. They said they had done this type of work before, but told me they would have to tear out part the ceiling to see how they would cut into the exterior wall- no one else described the same need. They said they would provide a quote the next week. They did not phone back to say they would not do the work and never sent a quote. Not a good practice but not unheard of... I wouldn't have selected them in any event. They seem to have other very good reviews, which is why I called for a quote, so they must be good with lighter carpentry and cosmetic work. But... I would not call them for anything because on their way out they tried to 'game' me on a price range for work. A straightforward question about my budget is appropriate and professional but without my saying anything they told me I would not be able to get this done 'cheap' and then threw out a figure that was about 1/4 of what I thought I would pay.

I would not use this company unless you have a guarantee that the owner is involved with the work. If he schedules his son, do not use them. They showed up late, came unprepared, did not work hard, did not finish the work, and the quality was subpar. The son spent most of the time on the phone or running to get supplies which they wanted to charge me for despite the fact that I gave them a lot of detail of what was needed to complete the projects. I had to loan them tools and tell them what and how to do it for almost everything.

Victor responded promptly with a fair estimate, and was the first to respond of the several I queried by email. He was also the first available to do the work. With his son as helper, he came on time on the morning of Christmas eve and did a fair job. I had to leave before he completed the installation so, in fairness, I was not there to have him correct one minor defect in his work, which was easier for me to accomplish myself than to call him back: He had failed to measure carefully before cutting the legs of the fold-down ladder to ensure it would rest evenly and safely on the floor. So, overall: pleasant, responsive, punctual, fair price; but less than "A"-level workmanship. I'd certainly hire him again, but I'd pay closer attention to his work before letting him leave.
