We had an approximately 20 year old double hung window where the seal on the double pane window in the bottom sash had given out. In cold weather we would get condensation between the two glass panels. Using Angie's List I found American Screen and Glass. They arrived on time; provided an estimate; took a deposit; and ordered a replacement panel. It took a couple of weeks to get the new window unit. When it arrived, they scheduled an installation date, showed up on time, and replaced the bad unit. The glass unit was approximately 21 x 33.

The initial interaction with this company was excellent as the representative called 5 minutes before his arrival, gave a quote upon arrival, and then removed all 21 screens. Flash forward three weeks to the day of scheduled installation of the rescreened screens and the review goes south. The crew never showed up in their slated 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. window. I called the company at 2:15 p.m. to advise that the crew never arrived and that I was quite unhappy about taking an entire day off from work for a crew that never showed up. It was confirmed that I was on the schedule, however, the company had no way of knowing if their crew was running late and that I would need to reschedule. Two days later the crew called when they literally arrived at the house (not 30 mins. before as I had been advised). While installation was fairly quick, the two installers left balled up pieces of blue tape (the company placed the identifying tape on the side of the screens) on my kitchen counter and on the driveway. Given the time I took off from work to wait for the crew the first time of scheduled installation, plus the disregard for properly disposing of garbage, I would not recommend this company and will not use them for much needed repair work on three of my windows.

I'm contacted that Friday, 7/8 and schedule an install for Monday the 11th. Workmen arrive. After 20 minutes they determine that they do not have the correct rollers. (This same problem occurred with out neighbors who used AS&G for their replacement rollers.) I ask them to have a manager call me. No call. I give the company some time and wait until the following day to call. I am told that they need to contact the manufacturer. I allow a week to pass before calling the company. I am told that the rollers did not arrive on the latest scheduled delivery. I ask that at the very least they contact me with updates as a courtesy. I request that a manger call me. I did receive a call a week later on 7/21 from a manager with the news (you guessed it!) that the rollers did not arrive on the most recent Thursday shipment. I was told by the manager that he would contact me weekly with updates. I told him if it was easier that he could contact me via Email. All good... I wait another week. No updates. At this point my frustration level has peaked. I call on 8/1 and request an update. I am told that the manger has my paperwork and so they are unable to lookup my info and provide a status on the order. All of a sudden a company who can provide invoices via Email in PDF form is now unable to access my account info and the status of my order because a manager has all of the paperwork. I am told that a manager would call me with an update. The next day on 8/2 I call to cancel the order. I am told OK. That's it! No; 'Let me process the refund on your credit card and provide you with a confirmation number.' No; 'Gee we're sorry it didn't work out.' Nothing. I tell the person on the phone that I need some sort of confirmation number as I do not trust their competency at this point. I am told that they would have to wait for the manager who has my paperwork (remember they have all of a sudden reverted back to 1976 and become a paper only office) to process the cancellation. As I'm telling the person on the phone it's unacceptable she hangs up. Hmmmm....something tells me that Six Sigma training was a waste of money on this employee...and the company. So all in all I wasted 5 weeks to not receive any service or part for my screen glass doors. I wait with feverish anticipation for the refund of the $250.00 deposit. Of course this is my fault. I should have hat in hand when speaking with this firm. How dare I bristle at the wait for sliding glass door replacement rollers! The outrage that I would have the gall to point out the incompetency of this organization. I should feel blessed that they sent a crew out with the incorrect parts and then stonewall me. It could have been a year...or more! Suck it up pally!!
Description of Work: I have used American Screen & Glass in the past for some screen door replacements. Work was done properly without much issue. I requested an estimator from American Screen and Glass to come to our home and advise on the cost of replacement rollers for two sliding glass doors. The estimator provided an analysis and estimate. $333.00 total for two sets of replacement rollers. One for our living room glass door and the other set for our basement glass door. I was told that unless the rollers were in stock to expect a two week turn-around. I place the order on 6/29/16.

This company is very impressive, from the office staff to the field technicians. The first lady I spoke to immediately understood my predicament: I had a 4' x 6' master bathroom mirror that had been taken down by technicians installing a new vanity, and it needed to be remounted above the vanity. The vanity installers didn't tell me until they were about to drive away that they could not re-install the mirror. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time so I could make arrangements, but such is life. At 8:30PM on a Friday evening I was in a panic to find a solution to my problem. I found American Screen & Glass on Angie's List, and Saturday morning I had a reply. The technicians arrived within their scheduled time slot a few days later. They explained my options about how to best secure the mirror so that it would remain safely in place, yet able to be taken down again if needed in the future, and within 15 minutes they were done. No muss, no fuss. I will definitely call them next time I need any glass or mirror work done around my house.

They came out when they said they would and took the screens to be fixed. They were fast and efficient and installed the new screens. Their communication was good and the office was easy to be in contact with and respectful during all phases of the installation. Their price was reasonable. I would work with them in the future.

These guys were great! I had 2 other estimates. One was $265 and one was $350. Both of the other companies were very discouraging, saying the job would be very difficult. American came out, gave a free estimate of $165 and came out the following day to repair it. They sent 2 guys who looked at the window and got to work. It was done within an hour (other estimates were 3 to 5 hours) and did a thorough job of cleaning up. I wish I had done this a long time ago. We lived with a cracked window pane for way too long! Thanks American Screen and Glass. You did a first rate job! I have no hesitation at all recommending American Screen and Glass.

A deer jumped through and broke a double-paned casement window in sunroom. Chris came out by noon, took the frame back to shop to install wood and workman returned 2 hours later and re-installed the frame for a temporary fix, as well as the repaired screen. Chris said the glass order would be about 2 weeks. However, they returned 1 week later and installed the glass. Job finished!! I was very pleased with their quick response, the quality of workmanship, and their efficient and professional employees. I would definitely recommend them.

I had a great experience with this company. I found the office person very friendly and helpful. They moved the installation appointment due to bad weather, came on time, gave me a very reasonable estimate, provided the tinted coating (to block the sun and heat) free of charge, and gave me the discount upfront b/c i mentioned Angies list. The window was cut and ready on time. The installers came over on time, were polite and assessed what needed to be done. It took them 20 minutes to reinstall the window after they cleaned the previous window up, caulked it, and made sure there were no finger prints. It sure was a lot less expensive than replacing the entire window!

Scheduled estimate with American Screen & Glass for replacement of a cracked pane in a 2nd story bedroom casement window. The woman I spoke to stated that they can do wood rot repair. Stated I would leave some notes about window rot repair that I would like the estimator to look at. The estimate was scheduled for July 8, 2015 at 9am. The estimator arrived 30 minutes early and called me asking if it is ok to come in early. I asked the estimator to call my mom who was at the house and ask her if it was ok. My mom later informed me that the estimator did not call her but rang the door bell and stated he was there and needed to get started on the estimate. My mom informed the estimator that we have 2 small dogs in the house. The estimator claimed he was allergic to dogs but walked into the house without saying anything else about that "issue." My mom asked the estimator to put shoe covers before coming into the house and provided him with a pair of blue shoe covers. The estimator at first refused to put on the shoe covers and then complied after my mom asked him two more times about the shoe covers. The estimator only looked at the cracked window pane in the 2nd story bedroom for 2 minutes and took one quick measurement of the height and width. When my mom showed him my list of questions and pointed out the window rot issues on our floor-to-ceiling kitchen windows, the estimator stated that the company does not do wood rot repair and immediately left without saying anything else. I received an email the following day (07/09/15) from Kris Jensen with an estimate for the cracked window pane replacement. The price of the repair was reasonable at $196.10, however, my issue with the estimator's lack of professionalism resulted in my contacting American Screen & Glass via telephone on the same day as I received the emailed estimate. I spoke with the same woman who assisted me in scheduling the estimate. I explained how I received the estimate and it seemed to be a fair price, however, I would not use or recommend their company to anyone due to the unprofessional manner of the estimator. I detailed to the American Screen & Glass rep the same information as related above. She stated that she would pass this information along to the company manager who would contact me directly. The manager called me back the same day (07/09/15). We spoke about the issues and he tried to pass it off as a misunderstanding on my mom's part for which he would "talk" to his estimator about to be more considerate. In addition, the manager stated that they usually don't do wood rot repair to which I replied their company website states they do wood rot repair. The manager offered to come out and look at the wood rot on my floor-to-ceiling kitchen windows and send me an estimate for the repair or referral to a company that could do the repair. He stated he would come by my home on Friday, 07/10/15. I never heard back from the company again. I will never use this company for any glass or window repair nor will I ever refer them to anyone else. They do not accurately represent themselves and seem to have very limited services and equally limited sales staff.

We appreciate the opportunity to address the needs for your home. Unfortunately, the damage to the wood in your home was very severe and beyond the scope of wood repair we do at American Screen and Glass. We take great care to advise our customer's to the best of our ability so that we give quality service. We offer repairs when they are available and replacements when necessary. In the case of your home, the scope of work required a general contractor that was capable of handling the large portion rebuilding needed. Again, thank you for the opportunity. I contacted this company to get an estimate to replace most of the windows in a four story home. The walk through with the representative from American was thorough and informative. I received their estimate, replied to their email stating that I hoped to proceed with the work but had a few questions. I did not get responses to my email, and had to call to follow up twice to that email to figure out if they were going to do the work. It turned out that to answer my original questions would require another visit, which I didn't learn until several weeks later. Finally, we scheduled the follow up visit, for a four-hour time frame on a weekday, with the promise of a call one hour in advance of the technician's ETA. I was available throughout that window, but it came and went without a call. He did call, but it was 45 minutes after the four hour window. I just can't do business this way. It's too bad, because they all seemed like nice people, but given their inability to follow through a large order, they must have more business than they can handle.

The two workmen arrived on time and replaced the rollers on the sliding glass door. When they presented me with the invoice, I was given the 10% discount as a member of angie's list. However, I noticed that sales tax had been charged for the entire amount, which was almost all labor (the rollers cost less than $15 each) and therefor not taxable. I paid the invoice and later called the office. A woman there said she would return my check with a new correct invoice. After having received nothing for two weeks, I called the office again. The same woman said that my check had been cashed by mistake, and that she would find out the cost of the rollers and refund to me in cash the sales tax that had been charged on labor. Two more weeks have now passed and I have still received nothing from the company. The company should be aware that if it has been regularly charging customers sales tax on labor, it is susceptible to a class action lawsuit to recover all of the improper charges.

While practicing at a friend's house, my son's lacrosse ball skimmed over the goal and through a window a couple of houses down. Awkward! Particularly as this was not one of our neighbors, but his friend's. American Screen & Glass was able to adjust their schedule to send someone out right the next morning to give an estimate. They did well with juggling the payer (me) with the service address, and performed the replacement work expeditiously. I particularly appreciated their effort to get an estimate done right away, as I felt terrible about the people with the broken window and wanted to take care of it as quickly as possible. Very helpful and personable staff on the phone.

I wasn't sure I'd find someone willing to do such a small job - fixing a broken hinge mechanism on a casement window. But Fred came out next day and took care of it in 5 minutes. I thought $45 was reasonable and probably barely covered his travel time and expense. He also educated me about my casement windows - how to care for them and how much it would cost to upgrade. He gave me a rough quote on replacing three other windows in the house. He was totally casual and obviously knew exactly what he was talking about. No sales pitch. Just old-fashioned expert service.

A previous company that installed triple pane windows back in 2004 went out of business along with the manufacturer of the windows. The windows fogged up. American Screen and Glass was able to size up the panes and saved me money without having to replace the entire frame. The windows panes fit perfect. I had a sliding glass door fog up that was installed in 2004 too by the previous company that went out of business. American Screen and Glass only replaced the pane. Great job and saved me money. American Screen and Glass replaced the windows in my basement. Other companies said the blinds would not fit that currently existed. American Screen and Glass said the binds would fit, and they did fit fine after the windows were installed. A lock on a sliding glass door stopped working. I thought it was a major problem. American Screen and Glass stopped by and just a two minute adjustment on a bolt. The lock has worked fine since then. I had American Screen and Glass replace a storm door. Another company said the door frame was bent from the earthquake and I could not have a storm door. American Screen and Glass installed a storm door and it works fine. Last summer I had a leak in another window installed back in 2004. Actually I had a roof leak too. The roof was replaced and still water in the window. The seal broke, and caulk was a band aid fix. I had American Screen and Glass replace the entire window and the frame that was caulked. The wood on the side that was dry rotten but still somewhat usable, American Screen and Glass replaced too. I am glad they went the extra mile with the work. Outstanding work with great prices and a great front office staff too.

Did not use them for work--but see above
Description of Work: Happy to report that I got a very nice call from Jeff--he was horrified that my ticket/job had somehow originally fallen through the cracks and set about getting me an estimate pronto. Anyone can make a mistake and I truly think that is what happened here. The important thing is that this business followed up and made things right and I give them credit for that. ORIGINAL REVIEW: They came out and were quite nice and seemed thorough--going through all the work I needed, taking notes. I was encouraged. I called in a day or two later to provide more details and THEN NOTHING. NOTHING. I NEVER heard from them. No estimate. Nothing. It's been more than a month. Needless to say if they can't even follow up and provide pricing imagine what a disaster actually using them could be?

Each phase of this project, and department dealt with, were exemplary. From Lee who scheduled the estimate, to Fred who gave it and advised on design (bath w/ the shower is extremely small and needed an atypical fabrication), to Isaac who installed everything this was a flawless execution. Price was very fair, timing exactly as promised, and the product is beautiful and perfectly and neatly installed. We could not be more pleased.
