Setting up the appointment and meeting with Fred who estimated the job went well. I had a very nice and enjoyable conversation with him. I give Fred an A. The job was estimated $265.00 for the window and $135 for casement crank. Fred advised that the type of window frame that I had was one of the most difficult to work with but they had experience with this type of repair. Fred advised that the repair did not include repainting but made no mention of how frame damage, if any, would be handled. Although the appointment was for the afternoon, the repairman requested that he come in the morning. My husband was home, fortunately. Although I did not witness the actual repair, I noticed when I got home that evening that the person who peformed the installation damaged the window frames while effecting the repair. In addition, the caulking around the window isn't the cleanest line and in some parts noticably thick. Upon testing the casement crank repair, the crank handle fell off on the floor when I grabbed it. Attention to detail does not appear to be this technician's strong point. The tech gets a B. My husband was unable to inspect the repair because his attention was required for a business call. I will use this company again but I will make sure that what is and not included is clearly understood.
Description of Work: Replace broken glass window (aprox 29'x35") and a casement crank mechanism.

They rang the doorbell while I was in the back of the house and I didn't hear. Eventually I checked (was thinking they were going to arrive around that time) and they were in the midst of trying to call me. Two repairmen came in, looked at the window from the inside, then one went outside. The repairman on the inside of the house started cutting up the seal around the window sash. He was very careful, slowly pushing the window (and using a putty knife to help release the sash), while the other repairman assisted from the outside of the house. Once out, the put the new sash in and sealed it. Easy, peasy. My only concern is that I don't believe they replaced the broken Andersen sash with a new Andersen sash. The glass doesn't have the same etchings in the corner that my previous window had. That said, if this window performs as well, I won't have any complaints.
Description of Work: The glass of my Andersen window had been cracked last year by hail. They replaced the sash with another double-paned window (the frame was not replaced).

Called and made appt. Workmen came on time for measurements. About a week later returned to install. One piece was off and they brought back to shop for adjustment. Came back in a few days and it was perfect. They would not accept any payment until job was complete! Only downside is when we called the office for the second install the person could not find our order but manager returned call the next day to straighten out.

I was most impressed with AS&G's installer who was very efficient but, more importantly, he took obvious pride in his work which filled me with confidence that the job would be done very well. I'm VERY satisfied with the end result.

I had a hard time finding a company that would come out on a Saturday. They do. They came when they said they would, calling in advance, for both the free estimate and installation. Even when the office closed at noon, they called just after noon to confirm the installers would be coming out during the scheduled window (before 1pm). They showed up on time and installed it quickly. It looks great.

The experience went well. I found out after making several calls that not all window companies do repairs. Many specialize in installing new windows rather than fixing them. American Screen is very experienced with repairs and sent out an estimator to assess whether simple replacement of the glass was possible. He checked out the window, assured me that the frame was in good shape, and that replacement glass could be reordered easily. I then told him he had the job and to go ahead with ordering the glass. The only problem with his visit was that he didn't have a ladder tall enough to reach the window easily to measure the dimensions, so we ended up using one of mine. Once he was able to reach the window, he was adept at removing the trim, etc. to take accurate measurements. He took a $100.00 deposit and a week or so later the glass was quickly installed by two men who brought the right size ladders. They answered all my questions and made sure I was satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Replaced double pane, insulated, low-e glass in large triangular Anderson window that had cracked. They removed the interior trim and wood, removed cracked glass sections, and put new glass in the old window frame. They reattached the old wood and trim around frame. They do not re-caulk or re-paint so I will need to arrange this with another company.

I had a very good experience with them. They scratched one of the windows and scratched some of the paint on the frame, but they put something over the scratch and it was fine. Their price was very reasonable in comparison to other providers. They came when they were supposed to come. They called before they arrived. They kept working straight through. They were very professional, very polite, and very helpful. There was one problem with one pane of glass with a little scratch on it that they had installed, but they were willing to knock off something on the price. It was our choice whether to have it replaced with a new brand one or not. They said they had to custom cut it. However, I would use them again.

The bad : at all stages of work done by the front office-- sending an estimator, ordering materials, and scheduling the installer -- the girl on the phone made mistakes again and again...Wrong phone number was given to the estimator, incomplete order was placed, not scheduled workers as agreed (I wasted 1/2 day of work waiting for nothing) and when changes occurred, the girl never called with updates! It was VERY frustrating. I was about to cancel everything with them, but I was seriously pressed for time. The good: the estimator spent lots of time suggesting various options, genuinely interested in satisfying me in terms of design and budget. The best: the installers were paranoid with accuracy and quallity. They measured everything like 10 times beforehand, then made the cuts in the glass for fixtures that fit like a glove, when brought the mirror, they noticed that the electrical boxes had been incorrectly installed (not the wiring, but the rotation was wrong that would have resulted in lights installed upside-down). This was totally outside of their scope but it would have been a disaster if the discovery on the incorrectly installed boxes happened after the mirror was permanently glued to the wall. Upon fixing the boxes and installing the mirror, they caulked PERFECTLY - now, I'm very demanding about this, and typically caulk myself better than anybody --but when they took time to explain in details to me how to caulk around a mirror (a special skill) -- I knew I better let them do that :). Finally, they were so aftraid that somebody would crack the mirror when installing the light fixtures, as they seen done DOZENS of time before, they pre-installed the lights for me, ordering me to not touch anything until the mirror cured. They never charged more for all the unplanned work -- for them it was part of quality installation.
Description of Work: Installation of residential bathroom wall-to-wall, counter-top-to-ceiling mirror, with two round holes for light fixtures. Plus a smaller mirror without holes on the adjusent wall. Manifacturing of two tempered glass shelves for the bath tub area (not installed).

Overall, great! We had some initial confusion over the estimate. I was quoted $350 over the phone but when they came out to measure, the price went up to $450. In hindsite I think the problem was that when asked what floor the window was on, I said first which was true and was quoted $350. However, because of the ground slope, it does require a ladder to get to making for a more difficult installation and an increased price. The company did agree to charge based on the original quote. I was very pleased with the service. They were punctual and the work was done neatly and professionally.

I was told the technician would arrive between 9 and 11 am, and he arrived at 10 am. The work was finished in about 45 minutes, and the repair is neat and professional looking. He took away the broken pieces of glass and window frame that we had not already cleaned up. The window was broken during a burglary, and I would have preferred same day service, but since I called at 3:30 pm on a Friday, having the repair man come on Monday morning was not unreasonable.

At first I was irritated as the initial $750 verbal estimate ballooned to $1,050 by the time I got the paperwork. However, I decided to go through with it. Overall, I was pleased as they did a good job. On one panel during the installation an aluminum frame was shifted leaving a small gap. I asked American Screen to come back and fix it and they did without complaining at no extra charge.

I called the company because a large bird flew into one of my double-pane windows and smashed the outer pane. I had a second window located above my back porch roof that over the last few years (unbeknownst to me) took in water along the sill. I noticed it when it was already rotting away along the bottom. The company sent someone out within two days of my call to measure the windows and provide a formal pricing on the spot. This fellow advised me on the type of replacement (he didn't sell me an entire window, but advised on the three levels of upgraded glass). The company called me two weeks later (the same amount of time that the estimator said it would take to get both windows in from the distributor) to let me know the windows arrived and to schedule installation. Doug the installer and his co-worker were great! They arrived on time, had their own tools, had the correct window replacements, knew exactly what they should do, and had both windows installed and working smoothly within 50 minutes. They were professional, courteous, and pleasant to chat with. I wish all contractors worked this well. This company was recommended to me and I knew I got my money's worth, because I priced them against another company.

Previous owners of our home left us with many broken double-hung windows and generic screens that fell out of windows. Called this company and they came right out. Was told that windows could not be repaired (parts not standard) and an emergency fix was made. Screens ordered at that time. Nine days later, screens were delivered and installed. At that time, the workers reported that, indeed, my windows could be repaired and I chose to have two done ($100 a piece). Had to reorder one more screen that was not ordered on the initial visit. Alfred and Sal were the workers who fixed the windows; Alfred really knew what he was doing and handled the work confidently, swiftly and carefully. He showed me everything he was doing and explained everything. We'll have the rest properly fixed when funds become available and I will ask for Alfred for sure!

The estimator came when he said he would and gave me a detailed written estimate. He told me it would be 3 weeks before delivery and installation because the windows had to be ordered. It was actually only 16 days. I was told the men would be here this morning between 9 and 11. The two men arrived at about 10:30 and set to work. This is a 1920's house, so everything takes a little longer to do but they still managed to get it all done in about 3 hours. They were very polite and hard working, did a great job, and cleaned up well after themselves. I am very pleased with the results.

I called and they were responsive and came within a few days. It was not an emergency-the doors are double paned and only one was broken. The estimate was accurate, the service prompt, and the work seems to be good quality. I would use them again and recommend them to someone else.
Description of Work: I called the company to see if they replace broken windows in French doors. The woman who answered the phone said yes, asked some questions, and gave me two estimates: one for standard size and one for custom made. An employee came out to see the damage and measure the door. He charged us the price quoted for a custom cut and took a deposit. While here, he noticed the kitchen window screens in the garage and offered to repair them for $25 each. We said ok and he took them. The screens were brought back and the door fixed this morning.

The glass in one of our French patio doors shattered for some unknown reason. This company said they did same day service, but it was actually 48 hours later when they could come (one day was the 4th of July). Two men came to complete the work. They cleaned up afterwards, including taking the old glass and small pieces of glass that were on the deck. The price was the same as they estimated.
