1. Sears promised installation would call in 24 hours, 4 days later I called them for 3 days straight and no one would answer the phone. Even Sears tried and no one would answer. Finally, 6 days after purchase some one answered and arranged installation. 2. The installation was set for Friday 2-6pm. By 6pm no one arrived and no one called. I called Sears, they determined that the dishwasher was on the truck and the installer was still out. 3. Installer arrives very late at 7:30pm on a Friday night. Installs, he seemed polite and knew his stuff. However, crease or dent in Stainless steal. Installer called an order a replacement and I must call the installer and set a new time. 4. Saturday am, I call installer. NO one answers the phone. I try through the morning. At last, a person. Appointment set for MOnday between 11-2pm. 5. No one comes and no one calls and no one answers the installers phone either. Finally, Installer arrived very late at 4:15pm. 6. Professional polite installer. I do not know why this company even has a telephone, they don't use it. There installers seems knowledgeable and professional but their office is horrible. When I said that I couldn't get through the phone, they said, yes, people had told them that. NO apology.

Description of Work: Delivery and installation services purchased for a dishwasher purchase. American Home Services gave away my purchase and phoned the day before scheduled delivery to say so. I was able to purchase an open box item from Best Buy. Best Buy sold delivery, setup and haul away services/rung them up at the register as if I was purchasing from Best Buy alone. While on the call from American Home Services when they told me they gave away my purchase, I 1) heard they sent me an email that day (not received), 2) learned I should ask for a refund from Best Buy (it wasn't going to come to me otherwise), 3) was advised if I found it I could ask someone to resell the product to me, and 4) heard maybe Best Buy would give me a discount on the purchase of a replacement appliance [that American Home Services would deliver and install]. Without any e-mail to provide specifics, I got nowhere with the store it may/may not have gone to. I gave them the one star for having called me and been polite in delivery of the news. They did not offer any assistance in remedying the situation...none.

This provider was subcontracted by Sears to do a home delivery and installation of appliances. The appliances never arrived after waiting 9 hours. I have yet to be contacted by them as to any explanation why nor have I been able to get in touch with them. If this company is involved with any part of the delivery and installation process, please request another. Sears provided proof that the person from American Home services never came to the warehouse to pick up the appliances I paid for. I have yet to recieve any products plus sears will not refund any money.

The technician was on time and performed a satisfactory installation. However, he had one of the worst attitudes I have ever experienced. When I questioned him about the need for a carbon-monoxide detector, he became confrontation and threatened to walk off the job site. What he should have done is to explained that his installation would fail the subsequent WSSC inspection unless a carbon-monoxide detector (powered by house electric with a battery backup) was installed. During the installation, the smoke alarms in the house went off. When my wife asked him why the smoke alarms went off, he replied the smoke alarms were not his problem. During the installation, I called his home office and complained about his attitude. I assume his home office called him because after he completed the installation, he apologized for confronting me and explained the new code requirements for a carbon-monoxide detector. This installation is the very worst experience I have ever had for any work done on my house.

AHS was contracted by Best Buy to install a dishwasher. The tech came in measured the cutout and even though it was a quarter of an inch too short for the dishwasher tried to install it anyway. The tech got the dishwasher stuck and told me i needed to destroy three tiles in my kitchen to have the dishwasher go in. I told them to remove the new dishwasher. Eventually they were able to get it out and i had instructed them to put my old dishwasher back in, only to realize they had damaged my existing dishwasher because the tech just "threw it on a truck." In addition to damaging the panel, and controls, the old dishwasher now leaked water. i called to complain and eventually after speaking with Tracie and being hung up on, she escalated to the owner who said they would repair it. They told me they could not find the parts and that i should pay for them out of pocket and they would reimburse me. I informed them i would do no such thing and never heard back. Do not do business with these people! Find someone else for your handy work!

I have never before written a negative review on Angie's List, but this was the worst installation experience I have ever had. I'm still hassling with Sears to get the drain pan and expansion tank installed on the water heater, but now they will have to uninstall the water heater it and install it again in order to put the drain pan in. When I called Sears, they kept telling me that American Home Services had told them that there was no room for a drain pan. That was not what the installer told me. He said he didn't install it because it wasn't on his ticket. The water heater is in my basement, and there is plenty of room to put in a drain pan and run a hose from it to my sump pump. I already paid for the reworking of both the gas pipes and the water pipes for the installation, so if the issue is that the water heater has to be moved half an inch to allow room for a drain pan, they should have reworked the pipes to allow for the drain pan when they installed it, since I was already paying for the reworking of all the pipes. This is why I wanted the drain pan installed with the original installation. I will never do business with this company again. I don't trust them, and they are very unprofessional. They don't even clean up after themselves. They left a huge mess in my basement, spilled paint on my ceramic tile floor, and tracked mud all over.
Description of Work: I ordered a gas hot water heater from Sears, and Sears sent this company to install it. When they got to my home and looked at the vent over the water heater, they said that it had no liner and that they would have to install a liner, which would cost me an additional $1,500. I should have gotten a second opinion, because I found out later that there was a rigid liner in the vent, and they replaced it with a cheaper flexible one. (The installer from American Home Service told me that the rigid one I had was improperly installed, but I don't know whether this is true or not.) They also charged me another $443 to rework all the gas pipes and the water pipes that were connected to the water heater. This was all in addition to the installation charges from Sears, which totaled over $700, not including the cost of the water heater itself. When I ordered the water heater from Sears, I also ordered a drain pan and expansion tank, and I paid for these to be installed when the water heater was installed. The installer said that these were not on his ticket, so he didn't install them.

American Home Services was contracted by hh gregg to delivery and install a new gas stove. The stove, full installation, all parts to hook up to the pre-existing gas line, gas install kit and the Alexandria permit were all paid ahead of time and through hh gregg. All necessary parts and hook up were paid ahead of time. When American Home Services came with the stove, they said that they would not hook up the stove unless I paid them another $150.00. I complained as I could not imagine why I would need to pay more. They claimed that the gas valve that was behind the stove needed to be replaced. Regardless of whether that was correct, I saw the valve and it was about three inches long and not much different then what was already there. It also took them little to no extra effort to put on this new valve if it was really needed. With what I paid for install and the extra install kit parts and the Alexandria permit, that part should have been included in the install. They did not honor the install agreement that I had with hh gregg. I felt like they held this install hostage and that I had no choice but to pay them and extra $125 (yes, they settled for $125 when I complained bitterly). I think this company probably has no ethics and preys upon people when it sees an opportunity.

When I placed the order with Sears I asked them for the name of the installer. They would not provide that information, but said they were Sears certified. American Home Service, upon arrival told me there would be additional fees to change the vent from 3 to 4 inches at a cost of $350. I asked how long it would take and he responded that it would be less than 30 minutes. When I asked him why it would cost that much, he replied that he was just the messenger. I then called 800-877-6420 and spoke with the Sears representative and canceled the order. Today, another licensed plumber informed me that he would change the vent at no charge since it would only take a few minutes.

This is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with. I am now on day three of trying to get a dryer installed. Purchased at Sears, the original was delivered damaged and refused. (One day gone.) Rescheduled the delivery and installation as early as possible. Tip for you AHS: early does not mean between 12 and 4 p.m. Installer shows at 3:30 without the stacking kit required and is instructed to simply install on the floor, though this is not what was originally requested. AHS calls and is supremely rude on the phone, pointing fingers at everyone but themselves (including me) and then having the gall to tell me to "calm down" when I express my frustration with this whole process. Meanwhile, the installer does not hear what I've asked or gets conflicting instructions from AHS and simply leaves without saying a word or following up. (Two days gone.) The office is now closed and I'm looking at a third day of waiting around for this incompetent company to get its act together.

Requested installation date (10/8) was scheduled through the Sears.com scheduling interface. I expected a call the day prior to finalize the time as was told by Sears Home Services. Day before came and went with no word from AHS. After a second call to Sears Home Services, they said that this contractor actually calls the morning of installation date. Ok, no problem. AHS did indeed call the next morning at 0900 informing me of the 1600-2000 time slot for installation. Ok, no problem. Call received from AHS installer at 1700 stating he would not make it out on that day. Not so Ok, but fine. AHS installer said he'd give me a call early the next week to schedule a time for 10/14. Week goes by with no word from AHS. I call AHS on 10/14, they say they can come out the next day 10/15. Again, not so OK as I'm continuing to have to change my schedule to accomodate AHS. But fine, I need the water heater. AHS calls the next morning, and gives me the 1000-1400 time slot. This time, installer shows up at 1030 and proceeds to look over the old water heater. Installer mentions that this installation will be an additional $130 (on top of the already purchased $500). After I questioned the validity of the installer's estimate, he refused to provide details (part breakdown, labor, additional steps required, etc). I immediately called AHS hoping to get this resolved, but they were no help, answer was $130 more or no installation. Needless to say, I was a bit upset and told AHS they had an unhappy customer. AHS stated, "Sorry, but we don't care." Contacted Sears Home Services and cancelled my order.

The hot water heater and installation services were purchased online through Sears.com. All necessary hardware and labor (water heater, expansion tank, upcharge for tank size, copper water lines, misc parts, and all necessary labor) was supposed to be covered by the charges accrued during the online check-out process.

I received a call on Wednesday, 6/29/11, providing me with the 4 hour window for installation (4pm - 8pm). I told the rep that it would have to be on the early side as I would not be home in the evening, and asked that the installer call me at 4pm to let me know his status. He said that he would advise the installer, and that if the installer would be too late, I could reschedule for Friday. No one called, and when I called AHS at 4:20pm they could not locate the installer. That rep also advised me that I would have to reschedule for Saturday, as the prior days rep had provided me with the wrong information. On Thursday night I arrived home at 7:30 pm to find the installer in my house (luckily my son was home). He had never received the message from AHS. After he installed the oven, there was a space beneath it between the oven and the cabinet where he had inserted two 1" x 2" pieces of wood to raise the oven up so that there would be no gap at the top. When I pointed it out, he told me he would take care of it. After he left, I saw the gap was still there and called AHS the next day. They sent out another rep on Saturday who took photos, measured, and told me that they would order a filler piece, that it would take about one week, and that it would be done at no cost since the installer had made the error and had not advised me of the problem. He also noted that one of the pieces of wood was not flush with the cabinet. He told me that someone would call me on Tuesday. No one called on Tuesday. I called on Wednesday and was told I would receive a return call. I did not. I called again on Thursday, this time speaking to an office manager who advised me that the owner would call me back after 2pm. He did not. I called on Friday morning and finally spoke to the owner, Dan Fendelson. He was nothing short of rude. He told me that he would not pay for the filler piece and that my alternatives were to either pay for it myself, or they could come out and retrieve the oven and return it to Sears. He told me that the rep was wrong and that the filler piece would not be free, and that he was not standing by the word of his employee. He told me to go ahead and complain to Sears and put his company on Angie's List. He was very unprofessional and I sincerely hope that Sears does not use this contractor for future installations. I have contacted Sears and they are currently looking into this matter, so there has been no resolution and at this point, the gap remains.

Heater started leaking over the weekend. Ordered a new one from Sears. American Home Services arrived to install it. They lacked the ability to properly install the heater. Needed to bring in another vendor to complete the installation. The team did make an effort to install the heater, they just couldn't do it. Also, they just didn't have the professional appearance and demeanor that separates good from okay.
Description of Work: Ordered water heater through Sears. American Home Services showed up to install it. The heater delivery was fine, but they could not install the heater.
