I called them because our overhead 4-bulb kitchen light suddenly stopped working. When I called Absolute, they suggested I try a couple of things before they came out, to save me money. Those things were 1) check the circuit breaker, and 2) replace the bulbs. When neither of those worked, I called again. They then suggested I buy a replacement light as a standby in case they came out and that turned out to be the problem. I kept it in the box so I could return it if it wasn't needed. When the electrician came, he determined the problem was the ballast. He didn't have the right one in his truck (apparently there are many different types), but he was able to make a trip to Home Depot and get one, and still charge me for only 1 hour of labor. I was able to return the light I didn't need. While we could possibly have replaced this part ourselves, we are not able to do any home repairs ourselves right now unless they are very simple. The labor charge was $117 and the material was $20.00.
Description of Work: Replaced the ballast in the fluorescent light in our kitchen.

electrician, generator service

Our experience with Absolute Electric (and their subcontractor, Vern's Plumbing) was very positive: everyone with whom we came in contact was knowledgeable, pleasant, efficient, and cooperative. We had used Absolute Electric once previously for a small job and were pleased with their promptness and attention to detail. After losing power for 5 days during the June 2012 derecho (lost a freezer and a refrigerator full of food), and for a couple of days during Hurricane Sandy in late summer of 2012, we decided we wanted/needed to get a whole-house generator (we wanted it connected to our natural gas line so it would work whether or not we were at home to turn it on). We had never before lost power for more than an hour or two in the 40+ years we've lived in our home. Shauwn Collins, owner of Absolute Electric, came to our home to assess our generator needs and prepared an estimate on Nov 19, 2012. The rather expensive estimate was due, at least in part, to the fact that our gas and electric meters are on opposite ends of our home, necessitating a trench being dug for the whole width of our property. The estimate also included a 5-year extended warranty and service agreement. It so happens we were not the only ones making the decision to buy a generator -- Generac was back-logged on delivery for 2 months. January 18 Washington Gas was scheduled to install a "split meter", but did not show up (I called WG several times 1/31, 2/1, & again on 2/6 when I was told WG subcontractor would call in "a few days"). On Jan. 28, the Generac was delivered to our home. The next morning (Jan 29), Eric and Kyle of Absolute came to install the pad for the generator to sit on -- temperatures were in the 60s. On Jan 30, Darren and Manuel of Vern's Plumbing (Absolute subcontractor) came to begin digging the trench for the gasoline -- temperature 72. (Recommend using tarp to collect dirt excavated from the trench.) Jan 31, Manuel continues digging the trench and Andy (Vern's Plumbing) begins laying the gasoline (temp 30). Feb 1, county inspector okayed the gas line and Andy returned to connect it at the generator end (temps 20-30). Feb 4 & 5 Manuel refilled gasoline trench both days (dirt was frozen). Feb 7 Grid I (WG subcontractor) called--appointment is made for Sat Feb 9 for installation of split gas meter. Feb 12 county inspector here & okayed electrical concealment. Feb 13, Eric (Absolute) was here to conduct final connections and tests, changed oil in generator to synthetic; Andy (Vern's) here to connect gas line to meter end. Final inspection was Feb 15 -- inspector said "very neat job". The generator runs once a week for about 10 minutes (maintenance). We awoke one morning to find the generator was running (it is not terribly loud from inside the house) - we didn't know we had lost power! We highly recommend Absolute Electric and will be calling them for any future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Installed 20kW Generic whole-house generator.

Service was outstanding. Technician was able to come within about 30 minutes of initial call. Primary need was that with the breaker tripped, we were unable to use the outdoor ceiling fan or any of the outlets in our porch. Were having people over and needed to have the service performed quickly. They were friendly and professional and were able to fix the problem on the first visit. Technician was also able to provide us with some estimates for future work. Will definitely be using again.

The technician was very professional. He trouble shot both of the three-way switches involved, then extended his work to other outlets on the circuit. He explained the problem to me and answered my questions. I was impressed with both his professional ability and his courteousness.
Description of Work: I had a light switch that wasn't working. Absolute Electric responded promptly to my call and sent out an electrical technician the next day. He did some diagnostic work and found that the problem was not only in the switch, but also in a floor outlet in another room that was on the same circuit. He fixed both the switch and the outlet in about a half hour.

I called for an estimate and went over details of the job with Cole, the service manager. Asked to have 14 recessed lights installed with new switches, 4 fan boxes wired with new switches, and several outlets moved. I asked Cole to have an estimator come out to go over the scope of the job but he said that it was unnecessary because they do these jobs all the time. I was a little apprehensive, but with all the great reviews on Angie's list and their relatively reasonable prices I booked them for the job. I was told that they would be there at 7am, so I got to my house bright and early (hadn't moved in yet due to renovations). The electrician called at 6:50 and said he would be there by 7:20 at the latest, not a big deal. At 8:20 they finally showed up with no idea what the job entailed. I was unsure on exactly how I wanted the lights placed, and was told by Cole that this was not a problem and that the electrician would offer his well qualified advice and opinions. This wasn't the case. The electricians were helpful, but I could tell that they were not used to planning lighting for entire rooms and were not prepared to answer these types of questions. They ended up helping to figure out a light plan, but it derailed their schedule (again, this was supposed to be part of the job). The actual work of the electricians was good, but not great. More drywall damage than I've seen from most electricians, and no advice offered on switch placement etc. Additionally, the electricians openly complained about the scope of work to me and said that they couldn't finish the job in one day despite Cole's assurances that they could. The electricians left around 4pm with assurances that the job would be completed early the next morning, and should take about 3 more hours. By 10am nobody was there, so I called and spoke to Cole. He said that I wasn't on the schedule, and that the following Wednesday was the best he could do (this was on Friday morning). I told him that I found it unacceptable to leave wires sticking out of my wall and an unfinished junction box in my attic for 5 days, and he proceeded to blame me for adding work to the job. We discussed exactly everything I wanted done when scheduling the job, and I did not add a single thing. Cole finally agreed to send out an electrician on Tuesday to finish the work, and told me that he would be sending the copies of permits I requested with him. The electrician came and finished the work, but did not have the permits. He also cut 3 large holes in one wall and did not replace the drywall (in fact, he threw away the pieces so that I had to cut new ones) to move one outlet less than 7 feet. I still do not have the permits, and the building inspector is coming tomorrow morning to verify my framing work and the electrical work. If you know exactly what you want done and don't mind dealing with terrible customer service from Cole, Absolute Electric is cheaper than several other options in the area. If you're looking for good customer service, advice, and perfect work, do not use them. UPDATE: The owner contacted me after seeing this review and offered to refund some of the cost of the job. He was apologetic and took the time to listen to everything I had to say about the work. He seems to genuinely want to fix problems like the ones we had, and said that they now have a policy to send out an estimator for any job over $1000. After speaking to him I'm not sure I would recommend Absolute until they have some time to sort out these problems and become better at dealing with their increased work volume (which he attributed part of the problem to), but I am more confident in the company.

We will definitely call on Absolute Electric in the future if we need any other electrical work done - we were very impressed with their customer service and the quality of work from beginning to end. Cole, who was very knowledgeable, discussed the work with me and did our estimate in a timely manner. The job was scheduled and Joe did the electrical work. Joe was very conscientious and meticulous about every facet of the job. I also dealt with Darlene in their office who is friendly and extremely efficient. It was a completely positive experience.

Installed two ceiling fans in bedrooms where no ceiling fixtures previously existed. Technician arrived on time, explained how the work would be done, and did a fantastic job on the install. This was the second time using this company. The first time, they installed two chandeliers in 2-story ceilings in foyer and great room. Again, the technicians arrived on time and did a great job. Prices were reasonable and competitive. Would definitely use again and highly recommend.

This is a great company, and I had a great experience with them.
Description of Work: I had old recessed lights that went through my bathroom ceiling, into the attic. Over the years, I was told to be careful not to let materials in the attic get too close to the tops of these lights. I had my roof replaced, and dust/debris fell onto the lights. I was concerned about the lights being damaged, and I called Absolute Electric about replacing and upgrading the lights. I talked with Mr. Collins (senior) who was very nice and knowledgeable. He patiently answered all of my questions, and he was able to get an electrician out to my house that same day to replace the lights. The electrician was also very knowledgeable and did a great job. The price was very fair, and they even checked a couple other things for me at no extra charge. I am very impressed with Absolute Electric and will definitely use them again.

My 1972 house has aluminum wiring and I wanted to change all the connections to copper. After having difficulty getting other companies to return my calls or give me a quote (see my other reviews on Angie's List), the owner (Sean) of Absolute Electric came out, gave a quote on the spot, and his crew did the job 2 days later. They pigtailed ~35 plugs, as well as all switches, vanity lights, etc. with copper wire joined through the approved purple connectors. This included pigtailing several 3 way switches, replacing dimmer switches, upgrading several outlets in the kitchen to GCFI circuits, and replacing every single plug, switch, and faceplate in the entire house with brand new ones. It took a 2 man crew the entire day. I was home doing yard work the entire time so I saw first hand every single outlet and light switch being pigtailed. I still can't believe everything only cost $2100. I had expected just the pigtailing alone to be around $3K with the upgrades and new outlets, plugs, and switches to push it even higher. The owner told me he aimed to do a quality job at a fair price and he sure did. All the houses in my neighborhood have aluminum wiring and I know many homeowners are interested in converting to copper due to potential fires with aluminum as well as concerns about homeowner's insurance companies canceling policies or raising rates due to the aluminum....several homeowners have commented on this in recent years at HOA meetings. If any of them ask for an electrician to do the job, I would certainly recommend Absolute Electric.

I emailed Absolute Electric on a Saturday to ask about scheduling to get an estimate to replace an attic fan that was old. They called back at 9 AM on Monday and talked to my wife, telling her that they were running a special on attic fan installation. My wife described the special and told me that the person she spoke to sounded professional and not pushy. I called them the next day to ask more questions. The person I talked to answered all my questions patiently and also told me about what the special did not include; specifically it did not cover installation on roofs over 45 degrees in pitch or on non-asphalt shingled roofs. I really appreciated that they were up front about possible extra charges. I also explained to them that the fan's power was currently controlled by the same switch that turned a hall light on and off and that I wanted a new switch for the fan. They assured me that this was covered in the installation cost. I scheduled the work for the next week. On the day work was scheduled, the electrician (Andrew) called me at 7 AM to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived he was very polite and professional. During the installation, he found that the light fixture in the attic was broken and he put in a new one. When he showed me the finished work, I saw the new light socket and was pretty sure that I would have to pay extra for it, but Andrew told me that it was covered by the fan installation. I also wanted to point out that I told Andrew that I had cats and asked him not to leave the front door open. He always closed the door (a small thing, but something that other contractors have forgotten about while they work). Overall, I was very impressed with Absolute Electric's honesty, punctuality, and professionalism. That they were reasonably priced was an added bonus. I will definitely be calling them whenever I need electrical work done.
Description of Work: An old attic fan was replaced, a new light socket was installed in the attic, and the attic fan power switch was moved from one switch to a separate dedicated switch.

I called "Absolute Electrical, Inc" on Friday afternoon. They answered my call right away, and scheduled the appointment for the next day, on Saturday morning. They quoted me the price over the phone, and advised me they have a minimum one hour charge even though the job is easy and would take half that time. The the technician called on Friday evening to confirm the appointment, and then again one hour prior to arrival, on Saturday morning. He arrived right on time, was very professional, finished the work in about 30 minutes, and provided me with an invoice for the price agreed over the phone, I suppose the work was well performed, I will know for sure when the plummer returns in a couple of days to install and plug in the garbage disposal in the new electrical outlet.

There is no story; they came and fixed what needed fixing.
Description of Work: They were recommended and contacted by my realtors to fix several deficiencies on a home inspection report when selling my townhouse. Called and setup an appointment with Absolute Electric to install ceiling fans in my residence about a week in advance (I called on a Wednesday, they were to come the following Tuesday afternoon). I took half a day off of work to facilitate the installation work during normal work hours along with other service vendors, however Absolute never showed up. They were supposed to show between 1pm and 4pm, however they never called me. At 4:50pm, I attempted to call the company only to get an answering service at which point I left a voicemail. The following day, there was no call to me or my wife (they had both cellphone numbers). The day after that (Thursday after the Tuesday appt), I got a call from Cole, the manager at Absolute. He was nice enough and apologized for the mistake noting they weren't sure why or how we got overlooked. He also offered to come out the same day to do the installations, but as I couldn't take off of work it wasn't feasible. At least Absolute acknowledged the mistake and hopefully have made modifications to their system to prevent similar future issues with customers; however, it's a bit too little and too late for me. I've found another vendor at a significant cost reduction. I'm not sure if I would consider Absolute again or not, because it's hard to not be forgiving for simple mistakes but then again I've already been burned once. Only time will tell if I will try them again. (Note: I rated them a D vice an F because at least they acknowledged the mistake).

It was frustrating not to be able to get through on the phone for at least an hour, but given that it was a Monday morning, I felt that a lot of other people must be trying to find an electrician at the same time. I considered trying another company, but had read Absolute's reviews on Angie's List and wanted to go with them. When I got through, I was able to get the 9-11 slot, which was great. I was impressed with the electrician. He was personable, used booties to protect my floor, systematically looked for the problem. He didn't mind as I shadowed him and asked for explanations. He found and fixed the problem. He also give me advice regarding a job that I plan to do in the near future.

Electrician was actually early and finished all work promptly. We didn't end up having the doorbell done as a new door install actually covered the wires and would have required more work. The most amazing thing though was we were overcharged - we paid $336. After he paid Absolute, my husband thought it looked like they had calculated the amount incorrectly and was going to call them. Things got busy and he never called. Earlier this week, we got a refund check from Absolute for $130 for the overpayment! We didn't have to call them or ask for this - they refunded on their own! We were very impressed by the responsibility and honesty of this company in returning the amount we overpaid!

I called the office and was given a same-day appointment. The electrician, Andrew, called before he arrived, well within the window that I was given. It took him about 20 minutes to locate the problem and another 5 minutes to fix it. I felt he was very thorough in his troubleshooting and asked great, relevant questions. We paid for a full hour and I felt it was a bit on the expensive side, but, to be honest, we never would have found the problem and Andrew was really knowledgeable and gave us some things to look out for in the future. It was worth it.
Description of Work: We had a couple outlets and a few lights that suddenly stopped working (in different rooms, on different floors) and couldn't find the problem.
