Then I went back to them for a personal computer repair and they were very cost effective and professional. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: When our non-profit needed some computer repair I found out that they do so at cost or for free if only labor is involved.

Laptop wouldn't boot. Would come up with no icon to click on. They were the only 1 listed in Angie's list. Called and was told to bring it in. Took it and left it overnight. When I went back he was finishing up and checking. On booting he found a problem with a conflict with a COMCAST product. He disabled the COMCAST problem. He also cleaned out some minor viruses and files slowing down the computer. Laptop runs much faster. Very friendly and professional. Now at 114 S Lewis ST.
Description of Work: Performed diagnostic. Corrected software problem that wouldn't let it boot.

My computer crashed and I was debating on whether to pay to have it fixed, or just try to have the data recovered and shop for a new one. Scott estimated he could replace the motherboard on my model for around $210-250 but I'd have to wait as the part was older and hard to find. Since I could buy a new computer just as good as the toasted one for about $350, I decided to just junk it. But I didn't want to lose all of my saved contacts, documents, media, etc. He was able to recover all of my data and on top of that, offered me a percentage-off coupon for 1st time customers that I wasn't even aware of! He used a flash drive that I provided, however before I got one, he offered me a "loaner" drive, one he said I could use to transfer the data to my next computer and that I could bring it back when I was done at no additional charge. The only reason I didn't use the loaner was I didn't know when I could get a new computer, and didn't want to keep his property for weeks or more on end. AND when I came to pick up my flash drive, he offered to buy my old computer from me (I hadn't even thought of that, and I like selling my old junk when I can!) because another customer with a similar computer had a monitor burn out and he wanted to fix hers with mine. Although its not really a profit because I do need to buy a new computer soon, I did pay just $48 for the data recovery (not much to recover, but it was important stuff) and he gave me $75 for my fried computer. The ONLY hangup was sometimes when I emailed a question, he didn't get back to me because the email got sent straight to his junkmail folder, so I had to call and talk to him on the phone. No biggie. And by the way, extremely courteous and friendly guy, very easy to work with. Absolutely would go back to again and would refer 1st to friends and coworkers.
Description of Work: Scott @ Staunton Computer Repair recovered the data on my crashed laptop and also bought said laptop from me for parts.

Overall, I could not be more pleased with the service I received. The repair was done quickly and was reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Recently I was in the Staunton area on business and my laptop began overheating and eventually just stopped working. For some people this might be an annoyance, but for me it was a disaster. Why? Because I am a professional writer and editor and without my laptop I am out of business. To make matters worse, I had a deadline looming and I did not know anyone in the local area who could repair a laptop or recover my files. By the time I accepted the fact that my laptop was not going to magically heal itself it was getting late on a Friday afternoon. I was almost in tears, believing that all the hard work I had put into my writing project was gone and that on Monday I would show up at my editor's office sounding like the kid who said his dog ate his homework. Fortunately, someone at the hotel desk suggested Staunton Computer Repair. Although I despaired they could do anything I called and I was told to come right over. The technician who greeted me at the door was friendly and evinced concern and understanding about how important the laptop and its data was to me. His demeanor was reassuring and while I stepped around the corner for a cup of coffee, he quickly diagnosed the problem as an inoperable cooling fan and an overheated system. When I walked back into the Staunton Computer Repair office about an hour later I was braced for the bad news that all my hard work was gone. But instead, I was greeted with a smile and a fully functional laptop. The price was great and the service and responsiveness was amazing. If I am ever in the area again I will surely use this business again if I am having any type of computer problems.
