Michael C. Brown Architect is a design-oriented architectural firm located in Staunton, Virginia in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Our focus is two-fold: Custom residential homes and additions, and Custom commercial projects in new as well as historic existing structures, always with a strong focus on sustainability. We are also in the process of establishing a presence in Manteo, North Carolina, expanding our relationship with designer Amelia Bennett. In our residential work, we believe in personal service (you work directly with Michael or Amelia, not office staff) and work hard to know our clients, to give them the empathetic “feel” that they are looking for. We believe in an organic approach to design and use the client’s program, the dictates of the site, and a sprinkle of poetry to find just the right solution. We strive for a holistic approach to our projects, with the interplay between interior and exterior spaces being a major focus of our designs. We partner with Amelia and her firm White Silo for her expertise in residential interiors. In our commercial work we work hard to arrive at the best solutions for our clients, and we specialize in solving unique and complex problems. We have often worked with other architects and designers in our commercial work, in order to expand the range of services we can provide. Our major collaborator is Amelia Bennett Studio. We do a variety of project types, from residential to retail and corporate to rehabilitating historic structures. Our reach extends beyond the Shenandoah Valley. We have done projects as far away as Florida and Iowa. Michael C. Brown is a graduate of Auburn University, and has experience of over 30 years to draw upon; registered to practice in VA, MD, DC, GA and FL, and pending in NC.
