Description of Work: They replaced a hot water heater that had been leaking longer than I was aware of. As a result, the job also required the replacement of the floor under the water heater. The water heater is enclosed in a tight space under the stairs. The professionalism, the experience, the efficiency, and the quality of the work were all exemplary! I recommend them whole-heartedly.

Description of Work: They came and diagnosed the problem (a leak in the pipes to the washer). Too expensive and I went with someone else.

Description of Work: Had electrical issues in kitchen, causing loss of power to refrigerator. They were able to dispatch an electrician within 2 hours (other places had 24 hour wait times). Quickly diagnosed the problem as a miss wired ground fault circuit and repaired.

Description of Work: We've used them on a number of problems over the past few months, from clogged drains due to a malfunctioning garbage disposal, to a burst pipe in the basement. The most recent service was to replace our sump pump. They always come immediately if necessary and do an excellent job. They are expensive, but they guarantee their work and we feel secure with the job they do. Which is why we have never tried anyone else since using them. All employees we have dealt with have been very courteous to deal with on the phone and in person.

Description of Work: I had a clogged bathtub. They snaked it out. It was a bit pricey but they came over the weekend (which I was grateful for!) and they guarantee for work for 6 months.

Description of Work: A funny sound was coming from our boiler and we also needed an annual service check of our radiator heating system. The technician who came remembered our house because he had led the team that installed the boiler seven years before. He turned the system off and on to see if we could replicate the strange sound, and he quickly determined that the pump was failing. He had the necessary part for replacement and promptly installed it. He tested the rest of the system (bleeding radiators, etc.)thoroughly and only left after he made certain that all was working properly.

Description of Work: They never diagnosed the real problem, were out here twice and never offered the solution we needed. Instead we had to call another provider.

Description of Work: They did some electrical work in our bathroom. They were able to fix a problem and improve the electrics in the bathroom with no problem. There was quite a bit to do, adding an outlet, changing the way the power controlled the lights/fan and replacing a fixture. This was in an older home with plaster walls and older contruction making the job a bit more difficult. They did the job and cleaned up after. Excellent!

Description of Work: Honest, high quality work at a reasonable price! We just moved back to Arlington into our old rambler which had been rented out for several years. WA Gas came to turn on the gas and found a small leak. The first plumber I called used scare tactics trying to get our business. He told my wife he discovered many code violations and noted old pipes were too small and under capacity leading my wife to believe our house was ready to explode. He then pulled out a laminated sheet with the $10,000, $8000, and $6000 new "fuel delivery" plan options. However, he couldn't really explain the difference between plans. Next morning I went to Shreve's supply center and asked about "real" costs to do the repair or install a new set of pipes for our four gas appliances. Shreves sent out a straight forward plumber who was simply going to repair the pipe joint which was identified to have a small leak. He offered to update the line and bring whole system up to code for a fraction of the cost presented by the other company. He was fast and efficient. He took care of permit and Arlington County inspections... We were so happy with his work and feel very confident that our house will be safe for many years to come. Description of Work: This is in response to a specific request from Angie's List to rate this provider. Haven't need their services in about a year when they replaced a toilet. Have been using them for at least 10 years when I need plumbing work and am not planning on changing.

Description of Work: I had no hot water. Provider troubleshooted the problem and fixed. |I was impressed when the provider covered his shoes in booties to enter my home. I have used this company 3 times now. All of my experiences have exceeeded my expectations!

Description of Work: I made an appointment to have a leaking toilet fixed and to hook up a gas propane dryer. The appointment was made for Friday 12-5. No one showed up...I called twice to see what the schedule for the plumber was, the lady said she would call the plumber and call me back with a time frame. No call. I called again around 5 pm and the service guy said the plumber was coming. Bottom line....no plumber ever showed up. I waited all Friday afternoon for a plumber and they did not ever show up. I have used Angie's list a number for time. I do think the review are no real. This is the second time I have experienced a terrible company and Angie's list they have very good reviews. I don't think it make sense.

Description of Work: During Hurricane Sandy, my basement flooded despite two previously installed sump pumps. Shreve-McGonegal came the same day I called and agreed to call later in the day so I wouldn't miss too much work. They arrived promptly, the lead plumber was Hai, and did a thorough inspection of the two sump pumps. One of them was adequate but the other wasn't working and Hai installed a new one and showed me exactly how to inspect it. I watched the whole operation and am thoroughly pleased.
