We spent $150 on that service. It was only diagnostic and we haven't had it repaired and there are holes in the wall that we have to get repaired too. They were really good. They have a large group of plumbers and skilled technicians to come out and they can do a wide variety of things from the plumbing to the drywall. While they were here they repaired our sink disposal.

They did a good job but they are expensive. Also, I was told that in order to warranty the work on the toilet they had to do it a certain way at a certain price. Then when the toilet was removed I am told that there is a different reason for the loose toilet and although the price is the same (a high price at that) they won't warranty the work. If they are not going to warranty work then I feel price should be lower when no extra work involved.
Description of Work: They came and fixed a loose toilet and reversed hot/cold water in shower.

The guys from Shreve were great. Friendly, very professional and very competent. They had to jackhammer through our basement floor to get to the pipe, which they showed us. They then replaced all of the old pipe with new PVC, filled up the 2-ft x 2ft hole, repaired the surface of our basement floor and cleaned up all of the debris. Fabulous! They said it would take 8 hours and cost $2k and that was exactly right. We had an estimate from another company of $5K!!!
Description of Work: We had a old pipe, underneath our basement floor, that had disintegrated and was actually totally filled with debris. It was the pipe that fed our kitchen drain.

I was very happy with how quickly Shreve-McGonegal sent out the first plumber, Hai. He arrived just 2 or 3 hours after I initially called about a problem. He called to let me know he was on the way, too. He spent about an hour snaking out the pipes. Price is a "B" just because I find it hard to believe it really costs $300 ($250 after the Angie's list coupon) to snake a drain, even though that's what we paid to Roto-Router a year ago. I was happy with Hai's recommendation to use more water after running the disposal to fully flush the food and help avoid having yet another plumbing clog. Unfortunately, we had a small crack in the disposal. Hai recommended buying one at Home Depot rather than spending 8-10x the price for one from Shreve-McGonegal. (Very much appreciated - hope he doesn't get in trouble for that with this post!) He even showed me how to install it. That night, Thursday, the dishwasher didn't drain. I called Shreve-McGonegal around 9pm that night and left voicemail with the emergency services line. Disappointingly, we didn't get a call back from them until late Friday afternoon, by which point we had left town for the weekend. The B grade for responsiveness is because of this delay. I called back again Monday. The receptionist put me through to the supervisor to discuss the problem, as I wasn't sure if we were looking at a plumbing issue or not. He said the dishwasher hose could get clogged, and that this is something the plumbers are supposed to check after snaking the pipes for a clogged sink. A few hours later, a different plumber arrived, again calling me when he was on his way. It took a couple of attempts to find the clog with the snake. It was hiding in the shadows and was pretty far down the pipe. It also didn't snake easily; he had to go after it with a coat hanger! But the issue was indeed a clog in the dishwasher pipe. There was no charge for the visit, appropriately, and the plumber kindly waited in his truck while I ran the dishwasher long enough to ensure that it fully
Description of Work: Our kitchen sink clogged Thursday, 3/10. Shreve-McGonegal came out and snaked the drain to clear it. The sink was fine. Unfortunately, the dishwasher didn't drain when we ran it Thursday night. They came back out Monday (we were out of town over the weekend) and found a clog in the dishwasher hose, I'm sure caused from the previously clogged sink and having disposal items go in all the wrong directions. The plumber snaked the clog, and all is well.

We discovered our bathroom sink was not draining and was actually overflowing into our vanity at the wall join on a Saturday morning. I was flying out of town on Monday and needed repairs immediately. After many disappointed phone calls, Shreve-McGonegal was the first company I contacted that was able to send out someone to fix the issue that day and the workman arrived at my home within 30 minutes. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and in the process of remedying the clog within the wall, he also replaced our ill-fitting PVC trap with a new metal one. He was finished very quickly and cleaned up afterward. The cost was high, but I was happy to be able to find someone to help on short notice on a Saturday. The trap replacement is a huge improvement over the one that the home builder put in place, and we've had no more problems with the drain. I would gladly use Shreve-McGonegal again.
Description of Work: Came on a Saturday. Unclogged pipe at wall in second-floor bathroom. Replaced existing, loose-fitting plastic trap with new metal trap.

The serviceman was excellent. If we ever have anything else that goes wrong we will definitely be calling Shreve-M again and asking for him by name. He called before coming and let us know exactly when he would be arriving. This was also within the estimated time that we were told when we made the appointment. Once upon arriving he was courteous, very professional and explained things in detail. He had a great personality and it was actually a pleasant experience. We felt like he did more than we had expected. The work areas were left vey neat and he was kind enough to wear the shoe covers as the weather was a little icy and snowy out today. I am not sure about the price being a good one as this was the first time we have called a plumber but in this case I would pay that much for the professionalism, punctuality and personality of the gentleman who came out and fixed our issue today.
Description of Work: We noticed that something was leaking from the upstairs and was visible on the ceiling on the lower floor. The gentleman came out and took a look and within minutes was able to diagnose what was going on and where it was coming from. There were some critical areas in the tub that were not sealed. He was able to fix it so that it is no longer leaking. He also cut out areas in our ceiling where we could see the damage and confirm what was going on as we will need to have the drywall re-done anyways.

We have had a persistent leak from the bathroom to the kitchen ceiling. Shreve etc sent a man out who looked for the problem couldn't find it and then left in a semi huff saying that it wasn't a plumbing problem and that he wouldn't charge us for his service call b' cuz he couldn't fix the leak but then we got a bill for around 200 ish later from the company and he denied his the circumstances. If that leak isn't a plumbing problem then it could be a roof leak but that had been thoroughly checked. I would think that a plumber should be able to diagnose the problem and suggest a solution to something that isn't immediately solvable, new fixtures, caulking etc. This was some time ago and the dates etc are a bit vague but I saw that you gave them such high marks and could not believe it and needed to weigh in on their service quality.
Description of Work: We called them to solve a leak that was ruining our kitchen ceiling. Their plumber looked, couldn't find the problem and left w/out charging us. I considered that to be reasonable since it most definitely is a plumbing problem, not, for instance our roof vents or roofing etc.

Tsegaye was very good about placing drop clothes on the floor and wearing booties so as not to mar our hardwood floors. On both visits, he called 15 minutes prior to our appointment to confirm our availability and to ask if it was ok to come over. After the work was done, he completely cleaned up the work area. We could not be more pleased with his work.
Description of Work: The water in our shower was not getting very hot. The plumber (Tsegaye) came out, diagnosed the problem and told us the thermostatic mixing valve neeed to be replaced. Since the fixtures were made by Hansgrohe, and they offer lifetime warranty support, he suggested we contact Hansgrohe for a replacement part, and the plumber also gave us the part number stamped on the valve. We called Hansgrohe who immediately shipped us a replacement part no questions asked (quite a bargain considering this is a $300 - $400 part!). After we received the part, the same plumber came back out, removed the old part that was clogged with debris and calcium deposits, flushed the lines (at my request) and installed the new part. Our shower is as good as new!

I learned that our kitchen sink had been leaking--apparently for a long time, as the fixtures under the sink had already corroded. I called about ten companies from Angie's List, and Shreve was able to come out immediately. The plumber said that the pull-down Moen faucet we had was a goner--the hose on the spray arm had a crack through which the water was dripping, and that had corroded the inside of the faucet as well as much of the plumbing under the sink. He had a faucet in his van, a brand I had never heard of (Wolverine), and it would cost $700 to install the new faucet, and replace the hot water valve under the sink that was no longer shutting off completely. I went ahead with it because the repair had to be done immediately, and the plumber was quick and efficient--e.g., he sanded the faucet opening in the counter because it was too small, and did a good job cleaning up after he was done. But I feel the price was really expensive, even with the $50 first-time customer coupon that I got off Angie's list. Bottom line: good service, price could have been more competitive. I think there are good plumbing companies out there that have more reasonable rates.
Description of Work: Replaced a broken/leaking kitchen faucet with a new one they provided. Also replaced the valve on the hot water pipe under the kitchen sink.

I called SHREVE-MCGONEGAL early in the morning on December 26, 2010. I chose this company because they are near where I live, and they advertise a 24-hour a day emergency service. The pilot light on our boiler had gone off, and I could not relight it. Over night, our home had cooled off to about 62 degrees. Snow was predicted. My husband is disabled and has a heart condition. I needed to get the boiler going or move him to a hotel before the house got really cold. I got a recorded message telling me to leave my name and number and a description of the problem. I left a detailed message telling them the nature of the problem, my contact information and the urgency of the situation. I called back several hours after the first call, again requesting emergency service. I got a call back SEVERAL DAYS later, I think on 12/30/2010--with an apology after I talked to them. Suffice to say, I got the boiler repaired the day I called, just not by Shreve. With due respect, I know I called them on the day after Christmas, early in the morning, but the response time was clearly unacceptable! I wouldn't be complaining if they had called back promptly to tell me they had no way to help me. They may do good work under ordinary circumstances. I don't know and will never find out!

I bought a vanity to replace a nice pedestal sink that no longer had hot water because the hose from the pipe to the faucet was leaking, and was stubbornly stuck to the faucet. Unfortunately, while trying to release the hose, I accidentally knocked off the shut off valve. Fortunately, the valve was stuck in the off position, so no flood, but we appraised the nice pedestal sink and concluded that it really wasn't worth the hassles, so we bought a vanity and some faucets and went looking for a professional to install it. We contacted several plumbers on the List. Shreve McGonegal called us back and arranged an appointment. No information was exchanged on the scope of the job, which turned out to be a bad thing. They showed up at the appointment on time, got the job done, but the scope of work was excessive. The plumber gave the quote including the scope of work to my wife, who accepted it. He then replaced all of the incoming pipes hoses and valves (which was not expected by me) and as expected installed the vanity to the hoses, installed the faucets caulked the vanity to the wall. I did learn about the cost midway through the job and was reduced to begging and pleading for a price break (given there was no longer any chance of reduction from this obviously excessive scope of work), but the plumber did not budge. He insisted that this was a company set price. I will later enclose a picture of one of the incoming pipes, hopefully it shows that the conditions on that pipe were not so bad that a replacement was absolutely necessary. Certainly not both pipes. The vanity would have fit, with the existing pipes in it. The vanity is working well.
Description of Work: Install vanity with sink and faucets (vanity was owned already by customer); remove old pedestal sink; replaced supply; tried to turn up the Hot Water temperature but was unable due to a short circuit in the water heater.

When my tenants called me the night before Thanksgiving to tell me about a leaky sink, it was certainly not news that I wanted to hear. I called Shreve-McGonegal Friday morning and was answered by a very professional receptionist who took my information and was able to set up a service call for that afternoon. The technican arrived promptly on time and quickly determined the problem and the solution. It was a matter of the garbage disposal not being installed / affixed properly, and a quick repair. Still, the experience was positive and I would defintely use them again if I have similar problems.

These guys are good. Very punctual, professional, know their work, clean and tidy. The guy took off his shoes before entering!!! They charge by the job now instead of the hour. I did not know that until they arrived. They are not cheap, I can tell you that. Therefore I am not sure i would call them again for a small job, but if you need excellent, qualified plumbers and the situation is going to require EXPERTISE, my sense is that this is a company for you to at least consider. I was very happy with the quality of their work.

Was overcharged and did not complete on time. They missed their first repair date because no one bothered to show up. Got an excuse that the guy was sick well after they time they were supposed to show up. On top of that, the initial repair was poor and I had to fight with them to get them to guarantee their work. Ultimately ended up being charged for the second repair job they did even though it was their fault. They also quoted me a multi-thousand job for additional repairs that were not necessary. A second inspection/review by another company said the additional repairs recommend by Shreve were completely unnecessary. Would never use again, avoid at all cost. Unprofessional and the work is not worth the prices they charge.

When I called, I gave the model number of my toilet because my attempt to replace the flapper myself with a so-called universal flapper from Home Depot was a failure. The mechanic arrived on time with the right part and was pleasant. He replaced the flapper and also adjusted the water pressure on our tank. He advised me, if I ever needed their services in the future, to make sure I knew everything that needed to be done so that it could all be taken care of in one trip. The reason is that the company has recently raised its prices. The price seemed high to me. I have spoken with Shreve about this and they explained that (a) they had not raised prices for a long time and are now in line with the competition, and (b) their overhead costs, insurance, fuel and wear and tear on their vehicles compelled them to raise their prices.

The plumber was at the door less than 4 hours after my call (actually earlier than promised), performed the job quickly and professionaly. He was courteous, explained what needed to be done -- and why -- and cleaned up afterwards. I was pleased by the prompt response and quality of work but was surprised by what seemed to me to be a steep cost. I am not familiar with rates in the profession but $307, including parts, strikes me as somewhat excessive for 35 minutes of an uncomplicated toilet repair.

The plumber called even a little before the "window" they had set for the appointment. He arrived shortly thereafter. I had three things I though I needed done. He explained that two of them I really didn't need (or could do as easily myself). He then set about fixing the cutoff valve. He worked quickly - finishing in about an hour and a half. He explained what he had done and demonstrated how the new valve works. He made some recommendations on how to make sure the line does not freeze in the winter. He cleaned up after the work. The price was within the range I expected. I would definitely use them again.
