The overall experience was a very good one -- the work was done quickly, effectively, and with a high degree of professionlism, skill, and expertise. Randy was extremely courteous and completed the work very quickly -- and he arrived right on time -- thats always a good thing -- all of this contributed to an overall positive experience. If I needed plumbing work again, not only would I call Shreve McGonegal again, but I would ask specifically as for Randy. I've already recommended Shreve McGonegal to my friends and neighbors and when I'm ready to replace my central AC --I'll be reaching out to them.
Description of Work: The floor drain for my central air conditiong unit 'overflow' was blocked up quite a way down the line. Shreve McGongel -- Randy -- came out within 30 minutes of my call, looked at the problem, identified immediately what needed to be done and immediately went to work bringing in a huge electric snake -- the job was done in no time at all. And the problem has been corrected!!

While doing laundry in the basement, I notice the floor was wet. While observing the laundry cycle, I notice that water was leaking from the main drain pipe. I tried to repair it but was unsuccessful (made it worse). Checked Angie's list for plumbers and selected Shrev McGonegal. I called and spoke with a plesant receptionist that informed that everyone was out on calls and it would be the next day before she could get someone out. I asked if I could be placed on a waiting list for today just in case someone became available. Within two hours, Mr. Hai called and said that he was heading my way. Mr. Hai was very professional and extremely nice. He analyzed the situation (lower section of pipe had corroded and broken). He explained what had to be done and quoted me a price minus the $50 discount mentioned on Angie list. He sawed out the old pipe and added the new piece and was finished in less than an hour and a half. I was extremely impress and elated that what I thought was going to be a very expensive job became very reasonable and within my budget. I will definitely use and recommend Shreve McGonegal to my neighbors and friends. Excellent job!
Description of Work: Main drain pipe in basement was leaking. Mr. Hai examined it and found that it had broken due to corrision. He sawed off the broken section and replaced it was new pvc pipe.

First visit: came out same day called for first visit to stop leak in bathroom faucet. Tried to replace part, but determined could not do it w/o substantially damaging sink and counter, so determined another way to stop leak. Completed work w/in time available in my schedule. Called again to make appointment for a second visit; again scheduled around my schedule. Arrived promptly. Gave me estimate for work and a couple of options of how to repair. Completed work in timely fashion. Cleaned up area worked in before leaving. Very polite and courteous.
Description of Work: during two visits: replaced one outdoor and one indoor faucet; replaced handle on main water valve to stop leak

I hired Shreve-McGonegal to resolve a plumbing situation that another plumber (Acclaimed Service) could not resolve and who attempted to upsell me on service. On July 30 I had to call an emergency plumber to unclog my sewer drain pipe. After the plumber left, I showered and the basement flooded a second time. The plumber had to come back out to address the situation, but unfortunately it was hours later. They informed me I'd need to either have a hydro jet for $2100 or worse case scenario I'd need to replace a broken pipe for ~ $11-15K. Five days later I ran the washer and the basement flooded again. I called Shreve-McGonegal on word of mouth recommendation and left a message on Friday night. I contacted the service department on Saturday morning at 7:45 and had a 20 minute conversation with the plumber on duty while he drove to his first appointment. He educated me on various issues and asked me to do some experiments and call him back so he'd be able to figure out exactly what machine he might need. They worked me as the last stop of their day and were able to resolve my issue in under an hour. The two person team were knowledgeable, straightforward, and personable. Not only that they guarantee their work for six months. Some think the prices are expensive. My experience is the cost is comparable to other plumbers, and their work quality is extraordinary.
Description of Work: Shreve-McGonegal was able to successfully unclog my sewer drain when a previous plumber (Acclaimed Service) did not. They also did not try to upsell me on services and provided a six month quarantee on work quality.

.Based on the reports on Angie's List I called Shreve-McGonegal to fix a small plumbing leak we had in our basement. I expected them to be a little pricey, but I'm usually glad to pay for quality and responsiveness. The company was responsive, they sent someone out the day after I called. The serviceman was friendly. But he did not give me an estimate of how much the work was going to be before he completed it. When he gave me the bill for one hour's worth of work to replace a 6-inch, 1/4-inch diameter piece of copper pipe --- it was $307!!!!!!! Holy cow. I would have lived with the leak for a while had I known it was going to be that much! I had the coupon from Angie's List so that saved me a little money (I printed it out, just on what I thought was an unlikely chance that the bill would be more than $100). He also failed to completely clean up -- leaving water and soder on the floor. I don't know who can afford to use these guys, but I certainly can not!

This is the best plumbing service in Loudoun County, Va. They are on time, professional, and fair. Twice, Jerry has been out to help us with water pressure and pipe vibration issues. Both times, he zeroed right in on the problem, ensuring that I understood what he was going to do tho fix it. Both times, he took care of it, and for a very fair price. These guys are the best!
Description of Work: We had an old single-stage filter under our kitchen sink that another company (snake-oil salesmen) sold to us a few years ago. No-one sells those anymore for a reason - they don't work and they don't last. So, our water pressure at the sink was very low. They removed the useless filter and also discovered a leak that was repaired. On the second call, we had a pressure regulator replaced. There was a very spooky howling noise in the walls anytime a toilet was flushed. I almost called an exorcist, but realized it might be a plumbing issue... Our dog was not so sure :-)

I used Carroll V. Shreve and Sons, Inc to look at my instant hot water dispenser. Randy, arrived on time, diagnosed the problem and told me I had to order a new insta-hot. He is a great guy - great personality and would recommend him. Upon buying a new unit and asking for installation - I was told that it was $350. I said no thanks and did it myself. So - bottom line - I would recommend them (Randy) but they can be way too pricey.

Several months ago, we had a massive leak from one of our bathrooms into the ceiling below. It seemed to have been caused by a toilet that overflowed overnight. When I initially called Shreve, rather than charging us for a service run, the technician on duty said that with an overflow, the leak could be a one-time problem, and he advised that we put some holes in the drywall and see what happens. For a few months, it seemed the problem was fixed, though we occasionally noted a little water on the floor next to the washing machine (floor below the bathroom). Last week, I happened to go down to to the washing machine after using the shower. Tiny drips of water were coming from the ceiling. I called Shreve and they indicated they didn't have an opening, but something could open up. In the meantime, they scheduled us for first thing Saturday morning. About 2 hours later, Randy called, saying he could come by. He arrived shortly after. It took a while to discover the source of the leak. Eventually, he found that the leak was coming from the shower (through holes [huge holes] in the grouting between the tiles below the inside of the shower door). He told me that the best fix would be to replace the shower pan. After he explained what the shower pan was (and noted my shocked expression -- it would require tearing up all the tiles at the bottom of the shower and replacing the entire bottom of the shower), he said that the cheap fix would be regrouting or caulking the holes. He sealed the holes and even sealed the fixtures in our other bathroom, as we had some leaks in there, too. Randy was quite a colorful character -- joking the entire time he was there. We haven't had any dripping in the past week, so I'm hopeful the problem was solved.
Description of Work: We had a leak in one of our upstairs bathrooms (evidenced by the water dripping from the ceiling below). Shreve located the leak and patched up holes in the grout of our master bathroom.

I was able to schedule an appointment within 24 hours for this non-emergency work. Plumber kept true to scheduler's promise to call 30 minutes prior to arrival. Plumber repaired jacuzzi tub spigot with no problem and replaced sump pump after inspection. Total job took less than 1.5 hours. Professional, Prompt and Efficicient. Price was not the cheapest, but Angie's list coupon made rates reasonable. My plumber was Hie. Hie has been with this company for over 20 years and is very good. I will use this company again.

I had a leaky spot in the living room ceiling that was coming from the water pipe leak in the upstairs bathroom. The plumber made an opening in the ceiling and fixed the leak by soldering a patch in the copper water pipe. The work was done on a Saturday which is what I liked, but the plumber did a great job, was very professional, used the drop cloth and cleaned up after he was done. To patch the ceiling drywall I was able to use the same company. They fixed the ceiling, put a patch in the drywall, and painted it so well that I can't tell where the opening was. Great service overall. I am glad I was able to use the same company for plumbing and drywall repair.

I discovered a leak coming from my upstairs bathroom into the downstairs bathroom. Shreve-McGonegal was very prompt in responding to my call and discovered the problem - old pipes and a leaky valve. It required tearing out some of the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom to discover the exact location of the leak. The plumber was very professional in explaining and laying out different options. I was contacted by a very nice customer representative later on July 13, 2011 to set up an appointment to meet with the remodeling supervisor. I met with the remodeling representative on July 19, 2011. The old copper pipes are corroding will be replaced with PVC pipes, and the upstairs shower drain (the original with the 70 year old house) will need replacement. They will replace the pipes, test for leaks and will then replace the ceiling and remodel the inside of the upstairs shower. The job will take about 5 days. I will receive an estimate by the end of this week and make my final decision given the options provided. I have been treated with professionalism and courtesy, just as my father was treated well by Shreve-McGonegal when he had some bathroom remodeling done by them some 25 years ago. I will report separately on the remodeling job once it is complete.

We had a pipe blow in our basement ceiling. It was just a half inch pipe that supplied our kitchen sink upstairs. I immediately shut the water off to the house and took out some drywall to find the leak. I found it. It was a little pinprick of a hole. Just a little hole causing all of that water! Well, I'm decent with plumbing, so I went to Home Depot and picked up some parts that I needed too fix the leak. When I got back home I noticed that there was still water coming out of the pipe. It wasn't much water, but that shouldn't have been happening. I turned off not one, but two gate valves that supplied water to my house. You can't solder when there is one drop of water in a pipe so I took a wrench to the Gate Valve. That got it closed so I was able to solder that pipe and call it a night. Or so I thought......................... The Gate Valve didn't open. It turned and turned and turned, but it never opened. I knew I broke the Valve when I used my wrench and that valve had to be replaced. I'm good with plumbing, but I was not that good. At this point, it was 2:00AM, but I had to have water. I couldn't see going a full day without it. So I called up Shreve-McGonegal at 2:20am and I got their voice mail. That didn't surprise me...................I mean, it was 2:20 in the morning on a Saturday Night! I left a message thinking that I was going to be getting a call back the next day. But, I got a call back at 2:30am. I couldn't believe I got a call back that quick! He listened to my problem and then told me what he needed to do too fix it. He came out the next morning. He replaced those old beat up Gate Valves with the newer Ball Valves and restored water to my home. Shrev-McGonegal was quick, responsive, and understanding. They did a REALLY good job for.............................when you consider getting a call at 2:20 in the morning..............................for a really good price. They fixed this problem so it won't ever happen again. They did it quickly and they did it right! If I ever have anymore problems or if I just need some plumbing work done that is over my head I won't hesitate to give them another a call. Hopefully, it will be at 2:20PM and not AM the next time. : )

I was out of town and my friend broke the handle of a relatively new faucet from home depot I had installed in the bathroom . I checked Angie's list from out of town and made an appointment with Shreve-McGonegal to perform the work while I was out of town. My friend let them in the house and showed them the work that was needed. They called me from the house to tell me what needed doing and offered me the option to buy another faucet my self and have them come back, or buy one from them. I chose to buy from them. They installed a new faucet from off their truck quickly and cleanly. They accepted my credit card number over the telephone .I inspected the job when I returned a week later, and am happy with their work.

After an unsuccessful attempt at fixing our issue ourselves, we realized we needed a plumber. Off to Angie's List we went! We selected Shreve based on the excellent reviews and $50 coupon for 1st time Angie's List customers. To be honest, the coupon definitely made us go with this company over competing companies with a similar A grade. I could only wish similar coupons would be available for repeat customers and to promote customer loyalty, something I'd like to see across companies on Angie's List, not just this one. My husband called first thing Monday morning to explain that we needed to schedule an appointment. They offered to come out that afternoon, although it fit our schedule better to arrange for Tuesday (today). Our plumber, Randy, arrived within the time frame specified. Randy was very friendly and eager to get to work. Prior to beginning the job, he reviewed the cost with me, which I appreciated. The work was completed in about 45 minutes. We had a great experience--Randy was professional and courteous--the issue was resolved--and we would recommend this company to others.

The service person made an interim fix. He replaced a toilet element. Days later the leak in the basin returned. When I inspected the element I found that the service person didn't install the element correctly, but when I made the adjustment the leak continued so the part I supplied might have been faulty. In the end, I went to Home Depot, bought the new part, and the leak ceased.

The toilet was running constantly, our kitchen faucet was leaking and our water bills were escalating. I cannot remember the exact date we called or when they did the work but it was all completed rapidly. It appears that the interior of the toilet tank was replaced in one toilet and just the flapper replaced in another. The existing faucet had a hose attached which did not work shortly after it was installed a few years ago or more and water leaking from the faucet had corroded the chrome. A new faucet was required which I expected and wanted. However the cost was more than I expected ($636.90) for the faucet and labor. I was not there when the work was done. When I arrived home and saw the new kitchen faucet I could understand the price. It is a sleek looking single lever pull out faucet that provides more spray power than any separate hose. It is more than I expected. The plumber also checked all plumbing for leaks inside and outside. I am very satisfied with their work and know having these repairs and checkup will help with future water bills.

There was a horrendous knocking in the plumbing in my house. I called some plumbers for phone estimates of pricing. I had searched on Google and knew that the Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) was one likely culprit. So I asked about the cost to replace the PRV as a way to compare disparate pricing strategies. Shreve Plumbing was matter of fact about costs and able to come on the same day. They told me that the PRV would cost almost $100 less than other plumbing companies had told me. I made an appointment for today. Randy called almost at once and said he would come by if I was ready for him. (So polite!) I was happy to have him come at once. When he heard the knocking, he joked about ghosts in the house but quickly diagnosed the noise to near the PRV. He pressure checked at some faucets and, after working on the settings, confirmed that the PRV was not working. I asked him how much it would cost and he looked at his book and said that it would be about $500. Now, this was almost $100 more than the competition and $100 more than they had said on the phone. When I told him, he called his office and they told him to do the job for $100 less than their book. (How accommodating!) He had to go back to his office and get the replacement part. He was back as fast as he could drive and cheerfully worked at the job which he did with care and with no wasted effort. I am impressed by Randy's professionalism, interpersonal demeanor and Shreve company's helpful spirit.

For a while it looked like the old pipes in my home were going to need replacement. Tsegaye kept at it until the drain was cleared. He then cleaned up the worksite. I was very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Our kitchen sink drain was snaked.
