Payless Painting

Looks like there are two crews/companies at least by judging other reviews on Yelp. One with Tony and another with Carlos. I got Carlos. I got a quote verbally (you should get one in writing) and I asked Carlos if the quote included materials and he promptly said "Yes it did". On the day of the painting: Carlos asked me to buy his crew lunch which I did. However that was not in the agreement either and I found that request rather odd. Carlos leaves as soon as his crew begins - Carlos said he would be around to supervise his crew when he gave me the quote. Of course his crew speak very little to no English so communication was a challenge to put it mildly. Carlos showed up again in the afternoon and demands payment which now includes a receipt of materials that were purchased that day for the job. I felt a bit cheated since his quote included everything. Carlos asked me to make the check out to one of his Crew members - I found that odd too. Carlos said his crew would finish the job and leaves with the check. Later I found out that Carlos packed up the ladders that were needed to complete the job. His crew leave soon thereafter since they don't have the ladder(s) to finish the job and they also claim they have run out of one of the paint cans. Getting Carlos to come back and finish the job was also a challenge with at least four missed scheduled appointments. Carlos does eventually show up to finish the job and I have to supervise him pointing out on multiple occasions missed painted areas because he is now in a real hurry to leave. I also had to point out multiple areas that were missed by his crew rather than him inspecting his and his crew's work and fixing it himself. I had to pay Carlos again for materials to finish the job and this time he did not bother to provide a receipt. Later I found out he had overcharged me for the product (three fold) that he used and I felt cheated again. All said and done the total price paid to My Payless painting was pretty close to some of the estimates I got from other contractors on Angie's List. The quality of their work was about average with me having to remove the hardware, all holes not filled, paint splatters and scuff marks on the siding.
