N&J Heating and Cooling

We ultimately ended up using a long trusted family contractor but I also received a VERY tempting offer from N&J. The price was significantly lower than everyone else and I was really struck by the office manager/co-owner Paula's professionalism, follow-up and effort to make this a project I could afford. Had we not had an existing trusted contractor, I would have used them in a heartbeat. They also provided names and numbers for clients who offered glowing recommendations of Paula and her husband (who is a longtime heating and air professional) and their entire installation staff.

**Please read in entirety, started great and ended bad.** The A/C had been out for 2 days in the hottest week so far this spring. I had a scheduled service call for 3 days later but was desperate. I Google'd "emergency A/C repair 22554" and they came up. I called and they responded immediately. The lady answering the phone was very nice and courteous. She stated the technician was her husband and was actually right next door at my neighbor's house. It was already 9:30pm at this point and we were so glad they were willing to come right out, right then. As soon as he was done at my neighbors house he came to troubleshoot mine, about 10:15pm. After some brief troubleshooting he determine there was probably a leak in the coil. He stated that they did not make that kind anymore due to EPA regulations. Since the indoor coil would likely have to be replaced it would actually require an entire new indoor and outdoor unit, and he would be prepared to quote me on that after confirming the actual problem. He requested to come out the next morning and continue since he had been out since 5AM that morning. I agreed. After further research on my own I found out that repair parts are still plenty available for my unit. I got a call back the next morning from another HVAC company I had left a message with. Turns out the this company installed it, remembered the previous owner and said it was still under warranty. I had them come out instead. They quickly tested the indoor cool and had the part in stock. They topped off the freon and we scheduled the final repair about a week later. Repair took place and all is well. Thank goodness for the honesty of the second HVAC company. I received an education from the them, and decided on my own that N&J was just trying to shake me down for an entire new system installation. Whether ignorance or ill intent I do not know; what I do know is that N&J told me a certain part was not available and would likely require an entire new system installation before they had even isolated the problem, and the second HVAC company had the part in stock and completed the repair in a week.
