TLC has done an amazing job in renovating our home. We wanted to remodel our family room, laundry room, master bath and add an elevator. We consulted with 2 architects and 2 other ?design build? firms who all claimed that the installation of an elevator without the building of an addition to the house could not be done. But TLC designed a way to do it within the existing footprint of the house. The elevator seems like it has always been part our home and complements TLC?s beautiful renovation of our family room, laundry room, master bath and closets. TLC also designed a new rear porch that is a major upgrade to our rear elevation. All the personnel, from the owner Bill Mallon to the tradesmen were polite, respectful, honest and professional. We are very pleased with the outcome of our project and highly recommend TLC as a company that is worthy of the highest recommendation of five stars!
Description of Work: installed elevator; extended back interior stairway; new laundry room; remodeled master bath, closets & family room; rear porch addition

It was a big project, so there were some issues, but they overcame those with responsiveness and flexibility. They weren't the cheapest company, but they really followed through. I left them in my house and didn't feel uncomfortable about it.
Description of Work: They did a total second floor remodel, including a new bathroom, a new laundry room and the staircase.

This is our second job completed by this company, and some of the same, poor, project management occurred again. We chose them to re-do our bathroom because the workmanship was fantastic on the kitchen, and the workers pleasant, neat and professional. However, many organizational issues occurred during the first remodel but we were told by the owner that it was an unusual year with a staff out on maternity leave and a new person in the office. We felt confident hiring them again a year later and hoped the same problems would be fixed. They were not. The project management was completely disorganized, and the project took 16 weeks to complete. There were many days nothing occurred on the job, and when I checked, things were not ordered in an organized sequence so that was the reason for the delays. For example: I was told to go pick out tile, which I did at the company they work with. I was told by the company it would be in within two days, however they did not place the order for the tile until the next week. I ordered the counter the same day I ordered my cabinet. I was then told weeks after the project started and the cabinet was in place to go to a different place and pick out the counter. When I took more time off of work to do so, despite having already done this, they did not have what I wanted. I picked out the entire colors of the bathroom to coordinate with this counter. I called around various companies to locate a remnant and located one in Baltimore where I was prepared to take more of my time and drive there and get it. Fortunately, a remnant did turn up with my original choice, but that was a 1 week delay and many phone calls and internet searches later. I am not a project manager, but acted as one in this regard. We had someone come to measure for the shower door. The mirror was from the same company, but not measured the same day, nor ordered the same day, again a delay. We had an unusual size heating grate, but the tile guys were not informed about the size, therefore we had several weeks delay while they had to come back and re-cut the tile. We attempted to contact our point of contact, the owner, the last weeks before they completed the project. Whereas before he was responsive, this time, three phone call messages went un-returned. After the final, two small things were completed in the bathroom in June, we heard nothing from them until they requested payment in October 2014. Does the bathroom look beautiful? Yes, it is. However, we would not recommend them again due to the poor, disorganized management.

Total Living Construction (TLC) did an outstanding job remodeling our two bathrooms. Bill Mallon and his entire team were true professionals during the entire process. Bill's keen eye and attention-to-detail ensured the design of the two baths was just right for our home. All of he people working for TLC were not only craftsmen in there respective trades but also were the kind of people we were totally comfortable with working around our home. The end results were two remodeled baths that we couldn't be happier with and that have received rave reviews from family, friends, and neighbors who have seen the final results.

I couldn't have had a better experience. Vit and Bill spent a lot of time showing me proposed examples of what the room would look like; They guided me in determining financing. Great care was taken to protect the rest of my home from dust, etc. during the construction period. All of the various specialists were professional and took great pride in their work. When they were finished with the room, you couldn't tell that anything had been done - they cleaned up after themselves; reseeded where grass had been disturbed and left a fabulous addition to my home. Visitors always comment on the beautiful job they did.

I can't say enough about how much I enjoy our sunroom! We've gotten many compliments on it from visitors. It really brings in a lot of light to our house. I feel bad that I didn't write a review much sooner. Bill Mallon worked closely with us on every single detail of the design, including how the windows would be arranged. His employees started destroying our old deck literally the day after we signed the contract. Work progressed smoothly with very few breaks. Everyone working on the project was very professional and exacting in their work. At the same time we had to have a new heating and cooling unit installed because the one we had was failing and we also needed a bigger one. Even though we paid for that separately, Bill also helped the contractor figure out how to put in the ductwork, which was extremely complicated. The electrical, flooring and painting contractors that worked for Total Living Construction also did a fantastic job.
Description of Work: In August of 2007, Total Living Construction began work on an addition to our house. The addition included a sunroom on our second floor and on the lower level (of a split foyer house). They also built a new deck and a patio. They vented our central heating and cooling system into the new rooms. Completing the work took several months since it included putting in a foundation, framework, drywall, painting on the inside, vinyl siding on the outside, electrical work, wood floors on the top and tile floor on the bottom, windows, electrical wiring, and ventwork for the heating and cooling, in addition to the deck and the patio.

We are still taking quotes and we haven't had the work done it. He was a great guy. He was local. He was very punctual and very personable. He was artistic in his whole vision of the project. We think that is why the quote got a little out of hand. We let him go nuts with his artistic vision of what he could do with it. At the time we were asking for a much larger deck than some of the other quotes we got. We started talking about composite wood and paving stones so it got out of hand because it was a gala thing but he was great the whole time. His name was Veet. We had no complaints about him. We will definitely use them in the future to give us a quote for a smaller project. His quote was way more expensive than the others for the deck but it was because we loaded a lot more requirements so it was kind of unfair. We were not comparing apples to apples.

The owner worked with us on the design for a number of months to tackle some unique issues with our home. He had a very good eye for detail that paid off in the finished product. The work took about 3 months as expected. The crew showed up promptly every day and were very professional and courteous. The project manager for our job handled our questions and any problems in a timely manner, and always followed through. They helped move a refrigerator to our basement and put in a utility sink so we could have a temporary kitchen set up. Trash was hauled away numerous times, so we did not have a big dumpster sitting in our driveway. For the most part the sub-contractors TLC uses were also prompt and courteous and generally a TLC employee was here while they were working. The one exception to that was the flooring sub-contractor who showed up when not expected and one or two of their employees were somewhat rude. But our project manager dealt with that situation to our satisfaction. We had spent about 2 years looking for the "right" contractor and were very pleased to find TLC. The quality of the workmanship was excellent.
Description of Work: The kitchen, powder room, and laundry area were remodeled. Existing flooring on the main level of house (combination of carpet and wood) was replaced by new wood flooring throughout.
