We had Turf Builders (TBI) kill off and reseed most of our lawn in September of 2011 and entered into a service contract for one year. Almost a year after we hired TBI to renovate our lawn we have a brown, dead, weed infested wasteland of a yard. Most of our grass is dead due to the company's failure to respond to a brown patch problem we identified and notified them of very early. Nothing happened with the initial notification. After a follow-up call days later, it was still roughly two weeks before the first application of fungicide occurred and the problem had spread. There was no monitoring of this problem and I had to call again to tell them that the first treatment was not effective and the problem was still spreading. By the time the second application happened, much of the year was dead, yet the technician claimed that it would come back after a few mowings. It did not, and the problem kept spreading. Now at least 75 percent of the entire yard is dead, the fescue has been replaced by crabgrass, Japanese Stilt grass, nimblewill, and yellow nut sedge. The grassy weed takeover is the ultimate result of TBI failing to initially sow the grass thick enough in the fall (even though I pointed out that it was too thin on numerous occasions) a spring seeding was needed that compromised the ability to adequately control grassy weeds with a pre-emergent.The yard actually looks worse today than when we hired TBI. To add insult to injury, the owner recently looked out across this mess and proclaimed the renovation a success. He claimed that we wouldn't see the fruits of their labor until after two years. So, roughly one year and $1,000 later we are back to square one. We will need to kill off the weeds protruding through the dead grass, resow the entire yard and start from scratch. If this company you had any decency it would refund our money. The hubris, arrogance, unwillingness to admit mistakes and musings about killing beavers by the owner was stunning. We have ended our service contract for cause due to TBI's chronic failures that turned our lawn into a wasteland.

We signed up with TBI early last Fall with their premium service for our 18,000 sq ft lawn and have had 4 treatments plus an additional 2,000 lbs on lime, based on the VA Tech soil analysis (additional $320). The lawn was green and looked great in early spring but now in early July, I can't really say it looks better. There seems to be just as much crabgrass and the thin areas have not changed. When i called after the last treatment because broadleaf weeds were still present, they responded very quickly and had someone back out within a couple days. We'll see how the lawn looks after their final treatment in late summer to decide if we want to continue with TBI or try another company.

The company started with the bare ground of my backyard. Their workman took a soil sample which was tested at Virginia Tech. The company used the test results to develop a plan to grow grass. Their work start less than a year ago. As the result of their work, vigorously growing grass now covers the yard.

The company could improve its communications with customers. Overall I am pleased with the service.

We have an annual treatment plan. It is $90 a visit and we spend about $500 a year. When we call about something, they come right away. It has been a good experience. We would recommend them.

We have a one year contract with them and we were happy with them at first but lately I have not been happy with the results. They have promised to fix the issues but it has not been completed. We will continue to use them at this point.

TBI personnel have been very prompt and professional in my experience so far. We have a difficult yard - years and years of built-up weeds and neglect - and given that this is just the first treatment, I can't comment on the success of the effort. That said, the aeration and seeding appeared to be a thorough job, and grass is sprouting already in several areas. We'll see if we get an improvement over the next year, but so far so good. I would recommend them.

Emailed TBI for an estimate and they came the next day. Their price, expertise, and services were just what I wanted so I began a year's annual service. The came 2 days later to perform the first service.

They are really fantastic. They are very knowledgeable. They've spent a lot of time discussing my lawn with me. One time after they put down weed killer, I ruined their work and they were so nice and redid everything for no extra charge. If I've ever wanted them to put more seed down, they have done so without extra charge. They do very very good work.

We had a dead front yard when TBI started 2 months ago. TBI came in and did all those things listed and now we have a lush green lawn again!

We have been using T.B.I. for a few years now and have been completely satisfied. They have always been very helpful when we've had any issues with our yard (i.e. Grubs, weeds). Our yard looks beautiful!

Based off other reviews and recommendations I called and set up an annual contract for fertilization and weed control. The price for the season was $400 which was for 5 sessions over the course of the year. So far only one treatment and the lawn is looking good. They do take a soil sample and send it in for testing. In a statement I never expected to make about my lawn, I got the lab results back and the lawn is fine. Actually got the lab results back and like a medical test, there was no way I could understand the results. Helpfully, the company followed up with a letter a few days later explaining the results and saying that my lawn did not need additional treatment. This is an area where they could have taken advantage of the customer by saying I needed something more for my lawn, but they did not. Thus far I am pleased. They were responsive and the price was good.

Only two applications have been made. I won't know the overall success or failure until the end of the summer or until the treatment reflects the health of my lawn over time.

It's very inexpensive and they are great, I would highly recommend them. They did what they said. They took a lawn sample and sent it to the University of Virginia, it came back and we got a report from the University. They were very professional. What's surprising is that they made grass grow in the fall in areas we've never had grass grow. They are awesome. We did it as a test and we are so impressed with them that we decided to use them, as long as the price is right.

I use them over another company because of their price. They are really reliable and come when they said they would. I shopped around and their price was good. They are doing a good job and they are courteous.

Outstanding service, explained things clearly and set us up with a very affordable service to keep the lawn up going forward. They show up even when I am not expecting them to, just to check and see how things are progressing. No charge, just part of their annual program. Much much better than Truegreen.

I am very satisfied with their service. They always leave a written description with very clear directions if anything needs to be watered. When I first contracted with them, they provided a free analysis and took steps to correct any imbalance. I happened to be here one time when the gentleman came by, he was very friendly and professional.

Their service is excellent. They come like clockwork. They leave detailed note as to what they did, and what they would like us to do to enhance what they are doing. Their billing is excellent, and they don't try to hit me with additional services or fees. It is a family run business, and my yard looks like a totally different yard.

They are extremely reliable. They are very responsvie. They provide excellent service. They also provide extra services for special jobs, if you need their assistance.

I have used this company for about four years now for lawn and shrub care. They are punctual. I appreciate the fact that they call before they come. They are very willing to come back if there are problems to rectify, at no additional charge. The staff has always been courteous.

Although I didn't expect to see results right away (they told me it could take up to a year to get everything taken care of, including over-seeding and buildup), I saw results within two weeks. The dandelions vanished and the chickweed is on its way out too. I could tell they were there (even without the sign), since I could see rows where they had punch-seeded. We had a LOT of rain very soon after they showed up so I assumed most of the seed had gotten washed away. That was not the case at all. Now, it's been about a month since their first visit and my lawn looks 100 percent better already! There is already more grass than weeds now (wasn't the case before) and it is looking fantastic!

Initially, TBI brought our lawn back from a mess to a nice looking manageable lawn, but then we noticed the quality of the service greatly depended on the employees they sent to do the lawn. We began to have to call them back to re-treat the lawn after a service because the application was done poorly. After one call back concerning weeds, the herbicide killed three bushes we had planted. TBI aggressively denied their service killed the bushes even though they began to die within hours of the herbicide application We canceled the TBI service when asking TBI to replace the $75 worth of bushes became more effort than the value of the bushes.
