Steve's Mowing

They are very good. They are punctual and do what they say they will. They clean up well and the lawn looks much better.

At first, I thought Steve's Mowing sounded like a great deal, the people seemed very nice and they did a good job cutting our grass. However, they are clearly running a pricing scheme that is unacceptable to me: When we first started using them, we said we wanted to call them each time we needed our lawn mowed (because sometimes my husband finds the time to do it himself) instead of having a plan. Lo and behold, they ignored us, cut our lawn twice without our permission and then billed us. By the way, they cut our grass twice within a two week period - the grass couldn't even grow at all it was so ridiculously quick and unnecessary. When I pointed this out, they seemed like it was a genuine mistake so we kept using them. However, then we started getting mysterious "long grass fees" ranging from $10 to $25 (sometimes all in the same month) for every mow. When I called them, they said that if you don't use their automatic plan where they mow your lawn much too often, they they add in "long grass fees." Last month they charged us $113 for two mows that month. We have a very small yard. The majority of that price was their "long grass fees" and "fuel surcharges." When I asked the woman how she knew if my grass was "long" she said someone looks at it and measures it. When I pointed out that I was home the last time they mowed and no one did that, she said that a secret person drives around the day before to measure it with a ruler. When I asked her what our measurements were, then, she said she would have to get back to me but never called me back. The ironic part: I know our grass wasn't actually long because my husband mowed it. It was also strange that she changed her story and funny that she never called back. Needless to say: this is a scam pure and simple!!! They quote you a cheap price to lure you in, once you start them, you either have to have your grass mowed too frequently so they make more money or they charge you "long grass fees" to make up the difference so they still have the same profit margin. When you compare their price after hidden fees, they are more expensive that anyone else.

It is like ghosts mow my yard. I never hear a thing. I just get home and my yard looks great! Only contact is a bill once a month.

I constantly get compliments on how nice my yard looks and I hope it helps encourage others to do the same in my neigborhood. They are always prompt, usually coming the day before the trash pick-up, and always leave the property very tidy. They even work on Monday holidays! I couldn't be happier and highly recommend this company for your lawn and garden needs.

Steve's mowing is reliable, prompt and reasonably priced. They have done regular lawn maintenance including aeration and seeding. Our lawn looks 10 times better since we hired them.

We started using Steve's last fall. We had been using another small company but when they got bought out by a chain we were not happy so I started looking for another small company. When I contacted Steve's they returned my phone call promptly and set up and initial appointment. Steve came out and looked at the lawn, asked questions about what we wanted and gave me a quote for service 6x/year. He was very professional, cost is comparable to what we were paying with the other company but Steve likes to come more frequently, he said they have seen better results that way. Our yard looks great and we are happy!

I bought a house last year in Alexandria that backs up to some woodland. Great house except the back yard is a nightmare. It is terraced with a horrible 45 degree slope. I called Steve's because I needed help cutting the back yard. I'm a single mom with a six-month old baby and I just don't have time to go out every weekend to weed-wack that awful hill. I called Steve's for an estimate and explained the problem with the hill. The woman said someone would be out on Saturday or Monday to give us an estimate. The Steve's representative showed up on Saturday morning. He never came to the door but simply looked around the property. My mom was visiting and we went out to talk to him. He looked at us in disgust and said the yard was full of rocks and "they weren't interested." We started to say something, but he cut us off, repeating, "we're not interested," and abruptly left. Are there rocks in the backyard? I guess there are a few. I would be happy to gather them up if that meant I could get someone to help me keep the backyard in shape. But that wasn't an option. I think Steve's didn't want to cut our yard because of that awful hill (although the Steve's representative didn't say that). I understand that they might not want the job. But there's no need to be rude. The Steve's representative looked angry, like we deliberately wasted his time. I expected more from the Angie's List Super Service Award winner.

Everything about this company has been spectacular! They are professional, timely, dependable, and helpful. My questions were answered and 5 days after my initial contact, service was begun! Kathy, who manages the office, is to be commended. She is efficient, friendly, and prompt.. Our lawn and garden areas are the lucky recipients of their amazing service!

Usually very good job. Not the cheapest however. Sometimes you have to contact office more than once to correct mistakes. Estimate for shrub trimming was prompt.

I got tired of mowing and decided to see about hiring someone. Other companies were more money, wanted confusing contracts, etc., but Steve's Mowing came out quickly and gave me a reasonable estimate and this is my third season using them.

Everything has been excellent.

Beautiful yard. As soon as it drys up, I plan to call them again to clean up the back. They keep a small crew available over the winter to assist callers.

Over all, we are satisfied. They do a great job. Price is competitive.

They do a complete lawn service, use small mowers that don't trench your lawn and bag all the clippings and place them on the curb. They also do a great job on leaf cleanup, very thorough.

I have weekly mowing and bagging in season. Very happy after my 2nd year. Will use next year.

We contacted them for an estimate and they promptly responded, sent someone out to deliver the estimate in person, answered all of our question, gave us a pre-pay discount, and were very courteous and professional. They came highly recommended so we are looking forward to a long term relationship with them.

They came out within days of my calling to give me an estimate. All we had to do was call when we decided to use them and service started that same week. There have been no problems and the workmen are friendly and efficient. We have been very pleased.

I'm pretty particular about service in my yard. I had already pruned and cleaned out the extensive beds around my house. Steve's crew made sure all weeds were gone and then applied mulch. I explained how I wanted it done - only a couple of inches, about 8 inches away from the house, and leave a few inches around each plant/shrub without mulch. I told them to be careful to leave exposed the irrigation spigots and the Sentricon termite traps (others had covered these up before). They did the job expertly, and I think they knew how to do it right before I told them how I wanted it done. All beds were edged with a flat spade. I had a euonymous hedge, three large bushes with multiple roots, that I wanted dug out. I had started the job myself but only cut down branches on one of the bushes. With hot weather upon us, I decided to have Steve's do the rest of the job, including the most difficult part of digging out all the roots and ivy in the area and disposing of them. They filled in the holes with soil and mulched over the top. They edged all the beds by using a spade so there was a well-defined edge. Last, they pruned two tall holly trees. I was very pleased with the results. I have using Steve's as a regular lawn mowing service this season and have been very pleased with their work.

Beginning our 3rd year of services with Steve's Mowing at this location. The staff are always professional, prompt, courteous, and concerned with providing value for cost. Their focused efforts have restored the previously burnt and dead lawn to lush green carpet that gets comments from the neighbors when they walk upon it or pass by. Many thanks to everyone in the front office, the crews, and the management. We prefer Steve's consistency and quality over the other companies that we've tried in the past 6 years - value, caring, and variety are hallmarks of this great team.
