They use organic products. We have set them up on a program. We pay them $700 for all the lawn treatments and treatments for shrubs and bushes. We have been using them for three years. The first year, we didn?t have any contract with them. From the second year onwards, we entered into a contract with them. Initially, we had used them for tree service. There was a branch that was touching the roof of our house. So, we had called them in order to take care of it. We got them through luck as they were in the neighborhood when we needed a tree service company. We talked to the guy and he gave us the contact number. When they came out to do the tree, it was a unique situation. We had asked them to leave all the debris, so that our friend could come and get it for his woodstove. They took all the small branches, but they left the tree as we had asked them to. They cut it down to logs and left it for our friend. We like the fact that they are organic and they do some things that the other companies that we had used before, didn?t do. They do a soil analysis every year. Through this activity, they customize the service to our particular yard. Once, they sent me a detailed analysis of the soil. Their pricing is also very fine.
Description of Work: We use Savatree/ Savalawn for both tree service and for lawn service. The last time they came out was a month ago, for a winter treatment.

I wrote a long explanation of the anatomy of the whole ordeal because they said I would need $200 more to have it done. They sent someone good, the job got done, but it was more aggravation than I wanted. The price seemed a little high.
Description of Work: We have a tall holley hitch that needed to be trimmed down. They said it needed to be trimmed down to 7 foot. They took about six inches off a ten foot high hedge. For this they used a bucket. They said they would send someone out to do it further. He came here, said he would send more men to do this.

They did a great job, all in one day. Won't know until next spring if red maple will survive because when I called them it was already suffering from girdling roots. Brian is very professional and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: Trimmed several trees, used air spade to take care of girdling roots. Applied sea kelp and another type of organic tree fertilizer, took soil sample to determine how lawn should be treated.

Savatree has been a little expensive, so I have been trying to find other people. The staff is nice. The head of staff speak english, but the crew doesn't. I have asked the supervisors to do something, and they say they will pass it on to their crew. Then the crew doesn't do it, and I have to go out there and try and communicate with them. It would be nice to have an English speaker as part of the head crew, so it was easier to communicate. The service is okay, but they don't always make the best decision. They tend to try and talk you in to packages and contracts. They generally do a good job.

The company comes out and does the treatment when we're not home.
Description of Work: We are attempting to save a large white oak tree that may be beyond saving because it's been infested with shot hole borers. (That's why we gave them a N/A rating for quality. Not sure the treatment will help, but that's not their fault.) We received an independent confirmation that this is the problem and the second company wanted double the price to do the same work. We're hoping to keep the tree alive at least a little while longer. The work entailed a soil treatment and 3 tree treatments for the borers. We've had one so far.

Their estimate was not the lowest one I received, but Duane Richardson impressed me with his professionalism. He was the only one of five people who came out to give estimates who noticed a second red oak that was infected with the same canker as the one I knew was dead. As the second oak was only 6" in diameter, he said that removing it would not increase the amount of the estimate. The crew arrived on time as scheduled and got right to work. They were very attentive to my specifications in pruning the holly, working at it until I was satisfied with the shape. After getting the crew started on the job, Duane delegated supervision to another arborist, Kelly Godwin. Kelly was very persistent in trying to get me to agree to additional, much more expensive tree work behind my house, which had not been part of the original estimate. I told him I was not prepared to authorize that work at present, but he continued with what I considered high-pressure tactics, to try to get me to change my mind. This was the only negative aspect of the experience.
Description of Work: SavaTree took down two dead red oak trees and a large holly. They also pruned another large holly, a copper maple and a magnolia tree. They sawed the oaks into stove length and stacked them. They removed all of the other wood and limbs from my property and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. They are supposed to return to grind the holly stump.

Making the appointment was easy. Melissa came out on time and spent a lot of time describing the status of my trees and commenting on the work of the other tree service. She showed me that the trees weren't diseased and no removal was necessary while showing me what the other company did wrong. She explained the proper care and feeding of the trees. While saying that the earlier pruning needed correction, she didn't attempt to pressure me into hiring Savatree to do that work.

The 80 foot double leader red oak split about 6 feet down the middle in a storm. Because the two sections were so heavy and tall, the tree could not be saved and needed to come down. I got 5 bids, with Save a Tree coming in as one of the cheapest. Customer service was friendly, and the arborist got out quickly during peak time to address our dangerous situation. Save a Tree brought in a giant crane to safely cut down the tree. Then hauled off the debris. They worked very cleanly. The only hiccup was that they had to block the two roads (corner) in order to accomplish the work. A permit was not secured though Arlington county beforehand and work was shut down briefly. Save a Tree did get the permit and the job was finished that day.

An arborist from Savatree came to my house in a timely manner and walked with me through my backyard responding to my questions and making additional observations. He confirmed my view that a VERY large tree was diseased and needed to be removed but indicated that, although his company could do some of the tree work I wanted, it was not equipped to remove the largest tree. He also pointed out a tree that was in obvious distress, which I had not noticed. He recommended deep-root fertilization. I also wanted another tree fertilized and he subsequently sent a technician to perform the subsoil fertilization at a reasonable price. The technician was also very professional.
Description of Work: I needed expert advice regarding several trees in my yard that appeared to need work and/or fertilization.

This service was performed a couple of years ago when we noticed the leaves turning brown on the tree in the middle of summer. Within a two-week period, all of the leaves had fallen off the tree and there was no question, it was very sick or dead. We would have preferred to save it, if that was possible, but the estimator told us it was not and gave us a quote to remove it. We were pleased with the initial response and the estimate was reasonable compared with one other quote we received. They also included removing all the debris. We scheduled the work. I think we left a check in an envelope on the front door the day the work was scheduled. We arrived home from work to find a fairly large pile of leaves and small branches in the middle of our (asphalt) driveway - an amount that would probably fill two large garbage bags. When we looked closer, we saw that the leaves and debris were covering up a HUGE oily spot! When we went inside the house, there was a message on the answering machine from the estimator saying "You probably noticed that my crew had a slight problem at your house - apparently the hydraulic fluid sprung a leak while they were grinding the debris. They left some mulch to absorb the oil and they'll come back to finish cleaning up tomorrow or the next day." Three days later, nobody had come. Meantime, the oil had spread and killed all the plants in the flower bed near the driveway and on the other side, was killing the grass alongside the driveway. We called again and he was shocked that nobody had come back and promised to send someone right away. We emphasized that we wanted them to clean up the oil. He asked if they could connect their hose to our water supply for the clean-up and we agreed. When we got home that day, the debris was gone and an attempt had been made to clean up, but the driveway still looked quite oily - in a circle about 5 feet in one direction by 2-3 feet across. That weekend, we cleaned with some environmentally safe solvent and it looked better for a few days - until it rained. We called the company who had sealed our driveway the previous year and asked if they would come and look at it and let us know whether sealing it again might help. They agreed, sealed it again and it looked better for a while, but then -when it rained - the oil rose to the top again and spread more. Eventually, we had to have about 4 inches of new asphalt laid on top of the driveway to get rid of the oil spot. We have also had that new asphalt sealed and no longer have a problem. We called and even wrote a letter, mailed it certified, requesting that they correct the problem and/or compensate us for the expenses we incurred trying to correct the problem and we never heard from them. I would never, ever use this company again. Our ultimate cost, including the tree removal, clean-up, resealing, new asphalt and second resealing was approximately $1,200.

The arborist spent a long time talking to us about our options about the Silver Maple. The dead lead was very substantial and presented a risk to our neighbor's house, but removing it presented some risk of unbalancing the tree, so we had to weigh the option of removing the entire tree. I felt the arborist presented our options clearly. She patiently helped us arrive at the decision that we felt most comfortable with. She also helped us arrive at a plan for dealing with the other trees on our lot. The work was done in a single day with very little disruption to us.
Description of Work: Corrective pruning of 20" diameter mulberry tree, remove deadwood and crown clean 3 other trees, pull vines growing over several trees, remove dead lead (large; greater than 10") to trunk of 40" Silver Maple, wood and chip disposal. Remove one dead 4" Mulberry entirely.
