Kelly came by and gave me great advice on trimming the many trees in my yard. We agreed to the scope of work, price and date of service. Kelly arrived with a fantastic crew on the agreed upon date (and time); he oversaw their work and cleanup. I can't say enough good about them. Would definitely use them again.

Brian M. came by for estimate. He quickly provided the estimate on site. I did not sign as I needed HOA approval. I called back two months later at their main phone number to schedule a service date for the tree stump and protruding root grinding and to inquire about adding one more protruding root grinding for another tree. The lady told me to call Brian directly which I did. I left a voicemail. No return call from Brian M. I called a few days later only to be greeted by a voicemail. I guess they are too busy for small jobs. The estimate was almost 100% more than another estimate I received but I choose to go with them because I purchased a $150 Big Deal for $300 worth of tree service.
Description of Work: Brian M. came by to provide an estimate for... A) Cut down 50 foot tree or trim 25% of the branches. B) Tree stump and protruding roots grinding.

Our arborists are known for promptly handling visit requests, which is why this member’s estimate request was handled expeditiously. Our office team sets up all appointments. A call to our branch would have resulted in an appointment being set by the admin team, not a referral to a field phone. It is easy to mix up companies when getting multiple bids for work – we weren’t the company that didn’t call back – we were the ones that came right out to this member’s property! We hope that this member will try us again next time.

Asked for a refund after being subjected to a form of "bait and switch" tactic by this company. Instead of coming out to fertilize our trees and shrubs, which is what we paid for, we got a call that someone had to make a preliminary visit. The guy who showed up needs some training in proper customer service. He was arrogant and came close to rudeness when questioned after walking around our property and handing my husband an estimate for hundreds of dollars for extended sessions of various treatments for our yard. We did not ask for an estimate for yard service. We did not ask for a contract. All we wanted was to have our stuff fertilized. Be careful if you do business with these folks.

A visit from an arborist is a lot like a visit to the doctor. You might be going there to obtain pain relief, but a responsible physician is going to do an exam and provide you with information on the root causes of your pain, along with ideas on improving your health. Our arborists have a similar approach, and homeowners usually appreciate a professional property review to help them choose services that make sense for their landscape, and to decide which species could most benefit from the fertilization.

They were very helpful and professional. On time and willing the move the truck if I needed to leave. We will be having the treatment done in the fall.
Description of Work: The arborist came out to look at the trees and give us a report on what was found and what to do. We talked with her and arranged to have the trees treated and use the big deal coupon. The work was done within the next week. If it would rain some more the trees will do much better!

I purchased a big deal for shrub fertilization at the end of June. A man came out to take a look, he also wrote up a contract, which I did not sign, that listed all the other jobs they could do for me and what the prices would be. I did not commit to any of the projects. He never followed up on the shrubbery, though he did indicate that I was in contract with them. I found another company that could do the tree service job for a lot cheaper. I told him that I was not wishing to continue the service when the crew arrived. I told the crew they could remove the dead limbs in the front of the home, but they told me the big deal would not be applied to that, which seems contrary to the advertisement. The owner said I was commited and that the crew came from Springfield, which I know they did not because I was driving behind their truck. He then told me that they came from Manassas, which is not nearly that far. He said that me purchasing the big deal would just apply to the large job. He said that the email I sent was a binding contract, which does not seem like a binding contract to me. I told him I was not going to go through with the job.

Scheduling an appointment was easy, the service provider arrived on time and was helpful, and they provided the service on time. Whether the service did anything is up in the air since only one lawn treatment doesn't really make an impact on a lawn.
Description of Work: They applied one lawn treatment. The only problem I had with this deail is that one treatment will do nothing for a lawn and since they don't really provide any information on how much it will cost to continue service with this company, I ended up feeling like I wasted my money.

First, the company contacted us immediately after we purchased the Big Deal. Clearly they had staff waiting to work with the clients. This has not always been our experience... Melissa C, the arborist, came out the next week (my schedule was full), and we went over our concerns and what she thought we needed to do for our trees. She spent time with me and told me a great deal of useful information about trees and their needs and care (which I wish I'd known all along). She recommended pruning to thin out our maples (we'd had them topped years ago, but didn't like that impact at all) and to clear the branches from overhead wires. We were concerned about one elm that leaned and was growing onto the roof: She said that to cut it back so it didn't hit the house, we would kill the tree, so we might as well cut it down and let the other elms nearby leaf out to replace the shade. She also noted one cedar that had been damaged in the past two winters' snows, and told us it was still healthy and would benefit from some minor cleanup. She worked up an estimate on the spot. Having had some tree work done previously, we thought the prices were incredibly fair for the amount of work. We accepted the offer and asked for a date. The crews (of course) were busy and we did have to postpone once when it was pouring rain, but on the date set, they were here and in place by 8:30 AM. They began with "quiet" pruning and only got the chain saws and chippers going after 9:30. I think maybe our neighbors might have appreciated that. Overall, the work was extremely efficient and careful. I watched how the team (three men, who all seemed to be very comfortable with their jobs) worked together to avoid fences and other bushes and our deck. They were almost artistic in how they got large branches down to the ground. I was very impressed. Clean up also was superb. Our back and front yards, and our neighbor's, all got raked. The driveway, sidewalk and the gutter were cleaned completely. And the three guys took only about six hours to complete the work. We probably should have done the work earlier in the season, but Melissa said we wouldn't hurt the trees at this point. They look great; no dead wood, no extraneous branches growing out of the trunk, and the overhead wires are completely clear of branches that might bring them down. This is not a guarantee, but with the way all the maples dropped deadwood over the years, cleaning them up has to help! We are very pleased. This was great work at a great price.
Description of Work: Prompted by the Angie's List Big Deal purchase offer, we decided to use this company for some extensive pruning that our numerous big maples needed, and to remove a smaller elm that was leaning and growing onto the house.

I have signed a contract with them and they will be continuing with fertilizer seeding and weed killing. They could not provide me with a good leaf collector. They said they probably had somebody that they could recommend, but I have been paying huge prices for that and so far I have not found anyone yet that is much lower than what I am currently paying. I would use their service in the future too.
Description of Work: I used Savatree & Savalawn (Northern Virginia) service to fertilize the whole lawn and this is about an acre, not all of which is lawn, and to distribute weed killer on the patio and the rest of all the lawn and in one big garden. I last used their service three weeks ago.

They’ve been around for a while. They climbed up one of the other trees using spikes and the guy just destroyed the trunk with the spikes. They are pretty much mid priced. We have them come out for pretty much everything. They don’t just top off the branches. They are pretty much professional arborists. The trees that they have pruned for us are just so healthy and happy. If they are a couple hundred dollars more than their competitors, it’s worth it. The tree was really big and it was really hard for them to get up there. It was an eighty foot tree. They do lawn care and stuff but I don’t think they do landscaping services. They come in and plant plants for you and stuff like that. They are just into trees and lawns. They have done pretty well. I’m perfectly happy to pay their price. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Savatree & Savalawn for tree service. I last used their services few weeks ago. We had a tree that was very large and it was leaning over our neighbor’s house. The last time when we had snow; there was one huge branch or rather the whole tree that kind of laid over almost onto their roof. So we had to fix it up for them. We thought we had to take the tree down. They didn’t have to take the tree down. They just cut off the branch that was leaning onto our neighbor’s house and they cleaned it up. They also prune our trees.

excellent. Workers show up when scheduled, they clean up the yard after the tree work, and do a wonderful job. highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I have had both tree work and lawn service with SavaA Tree. Brian McLaughlin has always been very professional and extremely knowledgeable about my trees / lawn. I've had a couple of small bradford pears removed and a japanese maple, red maple and pin oak thinned. The red maple and pin oak had been in distress due to the dought a few years ago but due to the care from SavATree, look wonderful and healthy. Their prices are a little higher but I don't mind paying for terrific service.

I can speak enough good things about this company. I had asked DUan in the Spring of 2010 to come out and give me a quote on removing a silver maple. He patiently walked through the property while I was on the phone with him (was at work), and explained exactly what they caould and could not do. He also was very knowledgeable about all kinds of landscaping issues. His quote was a bit pricey, so I got a 2nd opinion in the Fall. I ended up going back to SavaTree due to their impeccable professionalism and responsiveness. They came out and did all the trees on the property as well as yank out the Silver Maple. They resodded the area after taking out all the roots of the tree. They then planted grass seed and explained to me exactly what I needed to do in order to get the seed to grow quickly and fully before the first frost. They are an outstanding company with outstanding customer service. I am going to use them for my lawn as the new grass looks absolutely professional!!!!

I got four quotes for the tree removal. The oak was dead and leaning over, so I was concerned it might fall on my roof or the neighbor's roof during a storm or wind gusts. It required manual work to chop the tree in pieces by chainsaw as no other equipment could reach the back. Sava was very professional from the beginning. I liked that they sent an arborist to examine the tree for the quote. This was important to me. I wanted to take no chances in having this tree removed as it had to be done correctly. After I was ready to proceed, it took longer to get on their calendar than I expected, 3 to 4 weeks after the quote. But it was a busy time after a wind storm and my job was not urgent. Sava offered the best quote to cut the tree without hauling everything away. Removing all parts of the tree would have cost quite a bit more, and other services providers were more cost competitive if I had add that service. As it was, I wanted to keep the wood to burn in my fireplace since I normally spend $400/year for wood (not as our main heating source). Sava called the day before and informed me that the workers would arrive at 10am, rather than the 7am originally indicated. That was fine, and they arrived promptly on time. After inspecting the tree, the workers appeared to take a break out in the front for a good while, 60 minutes or so. I never understood if they were waiting for additional equipment or what. Anyway, they got started with the painstaking work and did a good job and were careful. They had to take out a couple of sections of fence; I would have liked to know that in advance. As they cut from up high, they used a pulley to keep large logs from landing astray. But as they got down lower, they stopped this practice, which left numerous large divots in my lawn. I wish they would have avoided this, but at least I did not do any landscaping or lawn work just prior to the tree removal. I left them for about 1.5 hours in the afternoon and when I came back was informed that they had a log land on my neighbor's roof, which went right through creating a hole about the size of a hand. I was impressed that they got a contractor out by 4pm on a Friday afternoon to fix it immediately. My neighbor is elderly and keeps to herself, so I actually never heard from her about it -- which means that it was definitely resolved to her satisfaction. Overall, I was very pleased with the work. I have chopped lots of firewood from the trunk. They chipped and hauled the branches and smaller pieces. Other than the divots and the neighbor's roof incident, it all went very well, and the price was very competitive. I would use them again, and consider them for other services.

I got screwed. I wrote them a letter and they never responded. Unbelievable! I have given up trying to find a service to help me with my dying. I have asked other people and they have had the same issues with other companies. I told them to refund me or I would write them up in organizations like Angies's List. They owe me $167, a soil test and a huge apology. But they obviously do not care!
Description of Work: I called this company to get help with an ash tree that appeared to be dying. They came last year and applied nutrients that did not help at all. They said they would call back next spring to follow up. They did not call, but instead came uninvited and did a treatment and soil test this fall. I complained bitterly that they did not call to okay them coming back, doing any work ... They said they woulod stop by and get back to me in a few days. They never called. And I never received a report on the tree or the soil report.

Response from SavATree DC Metro & VA
Infrequently, miscommunication occurs between arborists and clients despite a consistent track record for professionalism, responsiveness and high quality work. In this particular case the tree was in bad shape. Any chance of saving it would require several treatments over time. Our proposal (which was signed by the client) clearly stated that these services would be repeated the following year as well as his ability to cancel at any time. We reconfirmed the 2010 services via mail (two separate times) and phone (once) and did not receive any communication about canceling until after the service was performed. People who do business with us generally feel that they have gotten their money’s worth — our other customer reviews speak for themselves. SavATree provides an unconditional satisfaction guarantee to make sure that issues resulting from a situation like this are resolved promptly and that all work meets the client's expectations.

Very impressive. The foreman introduced himself and his crew to me. They were very professional and seemed very safety minded. Taking down the trees involved one man climbing and cutting while the others did stuff with ropes to bring down the branches. Eventually, they were left with a trunk and in front, they must have taken it down in pieces. In our large backyard, they were able to just fell the tree because there was nothing for it to hit. They did an excellent job and cleaned up after themselves. They returned to grind the stumps about a week later. We picked them because of a neighbor's recommendation and their rating on Angie's List. We will use them again and I have recommended them to others.
Description of Work: They took down two trees damaged in a storm, a 22 ft. leyland cypress and a 38 ft. maple tree and they came back later and ground the stumps down. They put everything that would fit into a chipper, and left the leyland cypress chips for us at our request. Everything else was hauled off.

I used them in the past for lawn care and landscaping. There was a problem regarding the quality and performance of the work. They also claimed that I did not pay. I did in fact pay even though the work was not performed well. I have contacted my bank to get a photo copy of the check to show them. This was in the September of 2003. As a repeat customer, SaveATree emailed us to see if we needed immediate help. We did. Eric, the arborist we had worked with previously, showed up the next morning. He gave excellent advice and a very reasonable quote. He arrived with a crew in 2 days who completed all the work. Most importantly, the crew chief stayed and reviewed any new items that needed repair as the snow melted and fixed all for the original quote. Exceptional service.
