They quoted me about $1200 to $1500. The quote process was horrible. They were horrible. The guy came out and I think it was Ryan himself. He came out very rushed and spent very little time with me. After I told him that I wanted more of a budget work to be completed, he didn’t bring a lot of ideas. He was turned off as soon as I started telling him that I wanted to work with the budget that I had. He was very unprofessional. He finally told me that he was going to email me an estimate and he never did that. I will not use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Ryan's Landscaping Inc. I did not use their services. They came out about a month ago to give me an estimate for replanting some stuff.

I went to talk with the member. I told her about my minimum before I got out there. When she showed me what she wanted done, I realized that this would not work with the minimum I had originally told her. I showed her pictures from my book of what she was interested in. I would have emailed her back, but she didn't really have an idea of what she wanted. So, I thought it would be best if she found someone else.

Arrived on the days they scheduled. Some rain days had to reschedule but communication was good. The first pallet of sod looked really fresh. Ran out of sod. The second batch not as fresh which worried me but a month later it looks ok. Did extra work by trimming some bushes and trees in area to be mulched. Ryan was responsive to emails of questions I had about caring for sod. I would have liked them to tell me how to care for it instead of researching on internet and then asking. I think I overwatered at times in the fall by mistakenly following internet instructions for summer? No warranty for sod but one month later it looks like it has taken hold.
Description of Work: Sodding of front lawn. 1 1/2 pallets. Simple mulching and adding a couple of small bushes to medium size flower/shrub bed.

I did a lot of research on landscaping companies and got several estimates. Ryan's Landscaping offered the most services for the best price. I told Ryan what I wanted and he made several suggestions which were great. He showed me photos of what things would look like. He was very professional. He and his crew showed up when they said they would. Ryan had enough workers to do everything in one day. The result was fantastic. They cleaned up very well before they left. Ryan also seeded and aerated my lawn, which had been looking terrible, in spite of a lawn service. My lawn is now looking better than ever! One of my neighbors liked what he saw and also contracted him to do some work for him. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Ryan's crew pruned some trees and cleared the area by the wooded lot in the back of the house. They created, mulched, and planted a flower bed. They also dug up some lilys and mulched existing flower beds. They planted 2 trees in the front yard, seeded and aerated the lawn.

Once again...another Angie's List provider knocked it out of the park with outstanding product and service! After reading reviews and researching several landscaping companies, I selected Ryan's Landscaping due to the positive feedback as well as the information that was on the company's website. From the initial call until the last worker left, the experience was a positive one. I left my contact information with Christine, who said Ryan would call me. He did within a couple of hours and we talked briefly about the project. We set up a date/time for him to come out and give an estimate and he arrived as promised. My husband and I had a pretty good idea of what we wanted and based on that, Ryan was able to recommend species of trees and grasses that would help us achieve the look we were going for. He also saved us money by suggesting that we rework the existing laurel bushes, which we appreciated. After we came up with a plan, the work was schedule for Friday, November 4, but due to equipment problems (stump grinder broke down), the work had to be rescheduled. Christine called to inform me of this and was very apologetic and said that the work would be completed the following Monday. As promised, the work was completed today. Ryan and his team showed up promptly at 8AM and worked quickly and efficiently. In addition to the work in the proposal, we had one extra mum left over, which they were nice enough to pot for us. We also had a small pine and an extra laurel bush that were removed from the front beds and they relocated those for us as well. The whole crew did a great job and really paid attention to detail. The only way to describe the quality of work they did is to say that they landscaped it like it was their own yard. We will DEFINITELY use Ryan's Landscaping again when we're ready to take on our back yard :)
Description of Work: Relocate several laurel bushes, install dwarf pines, dwarf Japanese maple, pampas grass and mums. Remove four stumps. Mulch and topsoil.

Ryan's crew arrived on time and as scheduled. Originally, they were just going to remove the tree stumps and replace the fire pit patio. The one there was just flagstones that had been randomly laid down. It was not safe to walk on much less nice to look at. Once on the job however, we talked to Ryan about replacing the steps leading up to the fire pit as well (the steps there were just gravel and the mulch form the sides continually washed them out). We agreed on a price and they added that to the job. After the first day, my husband and I had some concerns about the shape of the patio so called Ryan to discuss. I came back from work to show them in person what we wanted on day two, once they arrived and they had no issues reworking and doing as we had asked. Ryan was always professional as was his crew. They completed all 3 projects (patio, steps, and tree stumps) in 2 days thanks to good weather and the large crew that Ryan had on site. It was great to get it all done so quickly, and to have it look as great as it does! We are very happy with the hardscaping, as are friends who have seen it already, and it's nice to have all the unsightly tree stumps gone (by far the best price on tree stump removal!). Ryan called once it was done (he stopped by each day to check on the work as well), and assured me that once I saw it I should call to let him know if we wanted any changes as they would come back to do so. The work looks great however, and we really appreciate the clean up with a little mulch and grass seed. We've already asked Ryan to come back to give us estimates on other work so I've no doubt we'll use them again.
Description of Work: Ryan's replaced a fire pit patio and several wide steps leading up to the patio using paver stones and removed around 15 tree stumps, ranging in size from 2 feet to several inches wide.

Ryan and crew showed up at 7:30 am as promised, and while he and I discussed some last minute details, the crew got right to work. Within those first few minutes, they efficiently began removing all of those old over grown bushes that I was eager to be rid of. There were 6 hardworking men who made quick work of the project, but they still paid careful attention to detail to ensure that the work was done correctly. Each day I was thrilled with the work they had accomplished. By 1 pm on day 3, they were done, and I had the beautiful space I was hoping for. What a wonderful experience!
Description of Work: The backyard of my townhouse was a disaster! I made an appointment with Ryan to see if he could suggest a way to make it a beautiful space. He was prompt to our appointment and he quickly began to make helpful suggestions about how tho improve the yard. We decided it would be best to replace the old patio and walkways with pavers, remove all of the old plants, and build new garden spaces defined by flagstone walls. He said he could start the following Monday, so we signed the paperwork, I handed over a deposit and awaited the big day.

Ryan was very responsive, came to our house free of charge twice in order to give an accurate estimate. Called back quickly and addressed any concerns in advance. I was notified that the work would start a day late, which was fine, just happy to be notified. The work was done while I was at work but did not receive any complaints from the neighbors, in fact, they said the workers were very enjoyable. I received a ton of estimates on this project, and Ryan's wasn't quite the lowest, but went with him because of positive reviews on Angie's List and because of his overall great communication.

I wanted to replace my small front yard (I live in a townhouse) with plants and bushes to create a low-maintenance yard. Ryan came over and listened to what I wanted and gave me some great suggestions. His crew came out and did an amazing job (on the hottest day of the season!). Weeks later, a couple of the bushes weren't doing so well and had some issues with the mulch spilling into my neighbors driveway after it rained. He sent his crew over to fix that issue, as well as replacing the two unhappy bushes and added a couple of flowers (that was a nice surprise!). Ryan has been extremely responsive to all my questions and concerns and is standing by for any further questions or concerns, or additional work I might have or want. Very, very pleased!

Came as sceduled, preformed work well, did everything contracted for, asked for inspection before leaving. We like to use Ryan becasue he and his crews always do a good job, and Ryan is really an expert in such matters and a good person to seek advice from.

Called for an estimate. Ryan responded right away and scheduled an appointment for an estimate the next day. He showed up 1.5 hours late and was in a hurry to leave again. He was rather impatient about answering questions. He refused to give me a written estimate until we agreed to have them do the work.

We did call and inform the potential client of running behind schedule. Unfortunately, on that day we had 4 estimates lined up prior to the appointment that delayed our arrival. We offer verbal estimates - once an amount has been reached and agreed upon - we happily draw up an official, written estimate or contract for the client.

We have used Ryan's services for a variety of projects, and will continue to!
Description of Work: Originally we asked Ryan to fix an area in our lawn that had receded over time, becasue a row of bushes were pulled from there. He gave us an estimate of $700.00 to strip the surrounding area, backfill in the sunken area, grate everything, add top soil, and then sod the whole area. When the crew showed up, they went right to work, and did a very nice job. Ryan stopped by, and I asked him if he would give up an estamite to mulch our garden beds, his asked if I would like them to do it today, the price was $300, which was half of what we overpaid last year, they did a better job, and cleaned up the whole yard by picking up sticks, and trimming ornamental grasses.

We recently had a lot of construction done and so our backyard was completely torn up. We needed trees, sod etc. Ryan came right out, gave us a great price. We liked him a lot and hired him. He sent out a huge crew and knocked off the work in two days. We were very happy. Then three of our trees started to go bad. He came out last summer and looked at them and said they likely needed replacing in the Fall. He guaranteed his work for a year. He came out in the Fall and took a clipping from one of the now yellow trees. We never heard from him. Since he installed them, we are also over a barrel with Smithfield which only guarantees that which they install. So, here were with three sickly trees, and no Ryan.
Description of Work: We are not completely certain of the dates of service.... Sod complete back yard. Install six trees.

Ryan came out for the estimate and on the work days to make sure the seven (7!) guys working on my yard knew what to do. He made a few good suggestions I hadn't thought of, but was not at all pushy. These guys were great -- very quiet, hardworking, professional and got a ton of work done in two days. Their labors opened up the yard in exactly the way I wanted and could never have done without major power tools and a lot of help. This was a huge clearing out, so I didn't care if a few babies got thrown out with the bathwater, but I would recommend that you tell Ryan if there are things that should not come out so he can mark those things for the workers. I'll definitely be using these guys for my lawn service next spring and summer.
Description of Work: Yard overhaul, including clearing 150 (?) feet of fence line overgrowth & brambles, pulling ivy and volunteer trees from front beds, removing two dead trees, cutting back branches, taking out 100+feet of old wooden fence, digging out two metal clothesline poles, cutting vines, mowing ~ and hauling it all away.

very well. I would use the company again for landscaping and yard work-clean up of yard, trimming of bushes, etc.
Description of Work: Ryan Landscaping did a backyard patio/expanded walkway and also plantings of shrubs and dug an area in my back yard to help with drainage and overall grading of my property. I thought they did a very good job in terms of giving me options for the patio and it looks great. All landscape companies are expensive but I got several quotes on the patio work and Ryan's was reasonable compared to other companies.

I've used Ryan's Lanscaping in the past and was very satisfied. However, this time I left a message and my call was never returned. See above...The only negative I have was in arranging for all of this. I originally talked to one of Ryan's employees, Joe. He was called out of town and was supposed to bring Ryan and the contract for the work over on a Monday between 4:30 and 5:30. They didn't show and didn't call until the next day. That was annoying. Everything else went beautifully. Ryan said that he would have his crew here on August 2 and 7:30 and the were here on the dot. The work was done quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up everything and my back yard looks wonderful.
Description of Work: Ryan's Landscaping trimmed a large tree in the front of my townhouse and redid the landscaping in my patio/back yard. The back yard had become an overgrown mess. Ryan brought a crew of 7 men and, in 45 minutes, trimmed the tree and removed the old vegetation and weeds in the back yard. He then replaced the plants in the beds with new and more attractive plants. It looks great!

The front walkway replacement was started on Jun 1. Brick was removed and a new block stone walkway was constructed. The supervisor worked closely with us to develop a design, and the crew did a magnificent job of installation. This project was spread over two days. A small wood deck was also removed, the wood disposed of, soil regraded, and mulched over. The garden beds were mulched. They used probably about 30 bags of mulch. We specified that shredded cyprus mulch be used and Ryan Landscaping supplied it. A month later, during a torrential rainfall, a problem with the soil grade where the deck was removed was discovered. I called Ryan Landscaping and wanted them to come back, at their convenience, and spend ten minutes re-raking the soil. They arrived within hours. The supervisor was visibly upset that his crew's work was not sufficient and apologized profusely. Not only did they regrade the soil, they installed a drain at no charge to me to make sure that wouldn't happen again. These people are very good craftsmen and truly care about their product.

We asked them to perform a small job on our backyard. After showing up nearly thirty minutes late for the estimate, we agreed with Ryan on a price of $300, which he said was the minimum size of job he did. We put down a deposit of $150 and he said his office would call us later that week to schedule a time for them to come out the next week. They never called. The next week we called them to find out when they were planning to come, and the secretary apologized for not calling and told us the day. We told her that was the one day neither of us could be home and asked if it could be on another day. She said she would check and call me back by the end of the day. She didn't. Finally we were able to settle on a day and my husband arranged to take off work. That morning, we called the secretary to find out what time they were coming and she said that they were having truck trouble and that they would be out the morning after at 8am. The morning after (a Saturday) it was raining. At 8:30, I called Ryan to find out what was going on (they never bothered to call us to tell us they weren't coming). He said they wouldn't be able to make it out until Monday. At this point I essentially asked him to come down on the "minimum" price considering all the trouble he'd put us through, including my husband taking off work and both of us having to spend a great deal of time chasing him down. He said he couldn't have gotten to my job the day before because he'd had to take care of "all his big jobs" the day before. I asked why he'd agreed to do my job if it was too small for him and he claimed he'd done it as a favor to me. That I was paying for, somehow. He declined to come down on the price, agreed to refund my deposit, then shared some of his opinions of me as a person, namely that I am a b****, must "clean houses" for a living, and -- my favorite -- that sexually, I could never hope to "handle" a man like him. We'll see if I get my deposit back.
Description of Work: None -- they never came out to do it.

The rain delayed them a few days in the beginning, but they kept in touch with me and eventually were able to schedule me again. The work outlined my shrubs and walkway and they did it exactly as I wanted without my being at home at the time. The garden in the backyard was done perfectly, too. This is my second experience with Ryan's Landscaping and I couldn't be happier. I have referred them to family members and friends.
Description of Work: Ryan's Landscaping built a low, stacked stone border in my front yard, and a garden area in my back yard.
