This was supposed to be a one day project. The RFK Technology employee was to start at 8 or 9 am on a Saturday. They called the day before and said they would be there before 10 am. Then they called Saturday and said they would be there by noon. They finally showed up at 3 pm and wanted more money for extra cables. We knew we were going to have to pay for the cables but we expected to pay it after the work was done since it was supposed to be a one day project. We told him he wasn't getting the money and he left. He called later that night and apologized - we gave him one more chance and he came back Sunday. He was there until 9 pm on Sunday. The project was still not done. He came back the following Saturday. The project was still not done. On top of that, the work was nothing better then I could have done myself. We paid for total concealment of the wires but the wires were just stapled to my vinyl siding and shoved them through a hole he drilled into the house. We are talking tons of cables here. There was a hole that came into the house that wasn't even sealed well. He kept talking about "specialized outlets" - it was nothing more than a faceplate that you put over a GFI plug. You could see the insulation in the wall! The weather outside was below 20 and the room felt like a freezer. Then inside the house there were miles and miles of cables - making the corner of my room useless. We asked if he could trim the cable and he could not. We ended up tucking all the wires under the siding (with no problems and no effort at all) and then running the cable through conduit into the garage and into the house and sealed everything really well. We also paid to have our cameras installed above 12 feet - we did not get that. He brought a step ladder. In fact - he had to use our ladder at one point! I would say his work is amateur at best. The work was not professional. You can't just drill hole's in exterior walls and not do anything to insulate/seal the spot. You can't just go around stapling wires to the siding of the house. My advice - stay away and do it yourself!
Description of Work: We went through Lorex Technology to purchase and install surveillance cameras and this is the contractor they sent to us.

We truly apologize [member name removed] that your husband did not keep you in the loop as to our plan for your installation, from the time to show up to certain steps taken for your installation. Since he was considered to be the customer that was paying for the service and point person for your household, we were in contact with him about ETAs, information about supplies and information about install questions. At the time of the install we did everything within our power to accommodate your family’s needs. You mentioned you didn't like the color of the cables or how many cables there were. You mentioned that you didn't like where they were placed. Before beginning any installation we always conduct a presurvey to ensure complete customer satisfaction and structural integrity of one’s home. We made certain recommendations based on what your husband wanted and what your husband said you needed. When we conducted the presurvey of your home, it was done in a step by step process with your husband having the final choice of the installation procedures, regardless of what recommendations were made. It is concerning to us when any customer is not satisfied with our services, as we offer a 2-year warranty on all of our workmanship. The delay in the installation you mentioned was brought about because of the amount of cameras to be installed and the location of the installation; plus for the customer to understand the thickness of the BNC cables and the fact of trying to install the BNC cables up under existing Vinyl siding may not be the best option, especially with the type of weather we were having in this area at the time of the install. In addition, as with all of our installs, including the one we did for your home, we always make sure that before we begin we educate and inform all of our customers as to what would be best to maintain the structural integrity and the cosmetics of their home. This goes from color of cables to placement of them to how it will look once completed. If a customer does not want what we recommend and wants things done a certain way, before we begin we always make sure they understand what this would mean for their home (look, location, structural integrity, costs, additional costs, etc). Again, as mentioned, all of this was done with prior approval and choices made by your husband at the time of the install. Once the installation was completed, your husband said he was happy with the install and signed all papers reflecting that he approved what we did and the state upon completion. It is concerning that after the install was completed with signed approval by your husband that we were not informed by either you or your husband that you were dissatisfied by our services. In addition, the third party that you used to contact us were the ones that informed us weeks later. Upon hearing this we immediately tried to reach out to your husband to find a solution and make sure that we correct anything that you or your husband was not happy with. We were not allowed to come correct after you informed everyone that you wanted to do it yourself. We even took a cut in pay which allowed you to get refunded a large amount of money because you were not satisfied. We did everything within our power to assist and correct. RFK Technology Services, LLC is one of the primary installers for the Lorex Camera System in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern VA Area. We have completed many camera installations and the installation technique that was chosen by [member name removed] is used in over 2/3 of our installations. The fact is most home owners have camera systems installed after the home was built; not during the home building phase. Again, we did not leave your house until we were informed by your husband that he was very happy with this install and he signed off on our work product. We feel that we are being judged very unfairly and are concerned that this installation took place in 2012 and is now being brought up in late 2013. We stand by our product and services. [member name removed], again we are truly sorry that you are not happy with our work. We would like to once again offer you the opportunity to have us come out and assist you with resolving any concerns you may have about your install.
