Around October of last year, we started to develop roof leaks in our townhouse. We called someone to come out and patch it and were told at that time that we needed a new roof. However, due to the patch job that was done (had to come out again) and the quote that was given, we were skeptical. So we called 5 different contractors who all agreed that a new roof was necessary since the plywood decking was essentially disintegrating and, by the look of it, may well have been the original decking. Of the 5 contractors we called, we chose R. M. Banning Co., Inc. (Banning Roofing) for a number of reasons: 1.) The owner, Rich Banning, was the most responsive (to include immediately following up on emails or phone calls when we had questions about anything); 2.) Explaining everything that would go into the job before it was started; 3.) Coordinating seamlessly with the tenants who were there at the time; and 4.) Coming in with a quote that was between 15% and 25% below everyone else while using the same or better materials. The job was scheduled and completed on time with no hang-ups whatsoever. Rich forwarded photos of the roof as did the tenant so we were able to see everything. The workman who interacted with our tenants were professional and courteous and the clean up was impeccable. The tenant, who is a great tenant and works to keep everything neat, was very pleased with the neatness and lack of interruption, despite the major job. As a military member, I am naturally cautious in what I do. This is particularly true when it comes to laying out a decent chunk of change when the job requires it. While no one likes to have to spend this kind of money, if you do, you want to walk away from the job feeling it was a good investment. In this case, it was money well spent and Rich genuinely exceeded our expectations. I recommend him and Banning Roofing without reservation.

The folks from Banning are always responsive and professional. We have used them twice for roofing repairs and they are a boon for a working couple. The joys of working with a local company - they come by, do an estimate, follow up with a phone call and then come and get the job done. We highly recommend them. We are in the process of a new repair of some siding and were pleased to be recognized as a repeat customer - again - the joy of working with a local company with personalized service. With the heavy winds we have had recently, its great to know who to call.

The owner came out first, and he walked all around and discussed with me what he was going to do and how he was going to go about doing it. He told me what materials they would need, and gave a very good explanation of the job. The men that came out and did the job were very courteous and very professional. They completed it in good time, and worked hard and steady. They did a great job cleaning up when they were finished.

The entire job was completed within a few days time. The crew was at my house every morning when they said they would be, the president of the company came by every afternoon to perform a quality check on the work and to make sure I was happy with the work being done. The crew was professional and respectful every minute. At the completion of the job, there was no trash or scraps to be found in my yard or behind bushes. Their quality of work far exceeds other contractors I have hired in the past. Their work was far more superior than any other contractor I have hired in the past to perform work on my house. I highly recommend RM Banning for contractor project needed by home owners. In my opinion, they are the best in NoVA and I will always refer them to by colleagues and neighbors. The roofers began work at 7:30, which was rather jarring. The owner, Richard Banning, had said that we'd need to have a lot of our decking replaced because we had mold, but it soon became obvious that the roofers were going to replace all the decking, adding $4,600 to the bill. The workers worked until dark and continued into the next day. They did a competent job and cleaned up fairly well, but when I went up into my attic, I was shocked to see shards of plywood, shingles, and nails covering everything I stored up there. I expressed my displeasure to the owner, who claimed that no one had ever complained about fallen debris in the attic in his 25+ years in the roofing business. He offered to send one of his workers to clean it up, but I asked for $250 taken off the bill, which he did. I was also disappointed that the owner never came to chech on the job while it was being done, nor did we ever receive a phone call asking us how things were going. Communication between him and his workers could have also been better. For example, we had agreed to eliminate one of the gutters in the backyard, but when the the workers came, they were confused about removing the one gutter. The owner was confused as well about what had been done, because in an email sent to me afterwards, he said that two gutters had had to be installed for proper water runoff, when in fact only one gutter remained. Overall, in our case, I think Richard relied entirely on his crew and had virtually no involvement with the project.

I came to know of them through Angie?s List. They did a good job. I would use them in future too.

Excellent company, and the owner is very responsive, prompt, and professional. The company's bid was very competitive - not the highest and not the lowest - what sold me was the owners responsiveness, knowledge, and willingness to work with us. The experience with this company and its owner (Rich Banning) from start to finish was positive. The owner was very patient with the multiple questions I had for him during the estimate process and willingly visited my house several times to walk the roof with me before ever starting the job. He even assisted with selecting the proper color. Once we signed with RM Banning, they promptly scheduled the job. The roof and gutters took 2-days to replace largely because the entire subroof had to be replaced due an improper ventilation system. Prior to replacing the decking, the crew foreman inspected the decking with me to ensure I was in agreement that it needed to be replaced. The decking definitly required replacement. The crew work diligently and late the first day because of potential rain, and made sure the first section of the project was completed before leaving. At the end of the first day, and at the end of the project, the crew was very diligent about cleaning up the debri and sweeping the yard for nails. On the last day, the gutters were installed. Due to a miscommunication, the gutters on the back of the house had to be replaced; the company did so without question or additional cost. Since the project was completed, a few of the air vents have fallen out. The company has been prompt in reinstalling the vents at no cost and without question. The only recommedations I have for the company are to call owners in advance of scheduling delivery (shingles were delivered at 7am without notice), and to sit down with the customer at the end of the project to go over the warranties in detail (company warranty and product warranties). Otherwise, a great company, a very good experience, I will use them again, and will refer them to friends and family.

We had a good experience with them. The guy who owns the company came out when he said he would. The guys who did the work were good and they performed the work when they said they would. We are happy with what they did.

They arrived as scheduled and got the work completed in 1 1/2 days. When they tore up the old roof they said that I needed additional wood to secure the trusses. They never itemized the wood I needed, so I am not sure how much they used vs what they charged me (roughly $400 worth). When they completed the job I noticed that some of the roof was not seated as flatly as I supposed. They told me that it would eventually flatten with exposure to the sun and heat. I was also concerned about leaking, but they told me to call if I experienced a problem. They gave me a 15 year warranty. Hopefully, I won't have to use it!

Due to bad craftsmanship & ineffective water diversion a leak had formed in the addition of our 46 year old colonial. I contacted multiple roofing companies & all agreed that not only did I have a leak but we needed to replace the whole roof. Richard Banning personally came out & assessed the job. Based on RM Banning's professional basement & honest approach I chose to have them undertake this major project for us. He was on site during the project to make sure things were going well. Due to the age of the roof & several problem areas we did not know what to expect when the shingles were removed. Mr. Banning made sure I was involved in major decision making pertaining to plywood replacement & additional carpentry before proceeding. The workers were quick, detailed & cleaned up the site thoroughly. The project ended up costing more than we would have liked but we were prepared for that due to the scope of the project. Mr. Banning gave us options which would have saved us money but we chose to do it right & spend a little more. The job was worth every penny. My roof is now "bullet proof" & should last well over 30 years.

Very well. They took off the old, failing roof, saw that the wood underneath was roted, and replaced all. They called me for approval on new problems that they found, rather than just proceeding on their own (also, they told me not to replace a part of the roof that was still in good condition). I inspected the roof afterwords, and it looked like they did a robust, quality job. No leaks. I noticed they forgot to replace the gutter screens, but they came back and did so after one call. The workers were polite and prompt, and cleaned up after themselves.

I called Banning and they were so friendly and prompt. The owner came out within 2 hours of me calling and had the patch work done within 3 hours of that. I called several other companies and was told it could take up to two weeks, needless to say I would highly recommend them again.

I had bids originally from three companies, and he convinced me that he was the best for the job. I was unsure about needing the new plywood installed until they came down after removing part of it to show me where it had rotted through. The most notable thing for me was that they cleaned the area after impeccably.

Some of the trash blew on to a neighbors roof, other than that they were excellent.
