The packers arrived on a Wednesday bright and early and got right to work, taking good care of our belongings and wrapping them in a way to minimize any damage. They continued for half a day on Thursday before getting the job done. The movers arrived early Friday morning and loaded us up promptly and efficiently, leaving our house by about 4:00. They told us they would be delivering on Saturday, so they sealed the truck in our presence and then on Saturday they unsealed it in our presence. The unloading process was very smooth. No issues with dropping boxes, damaging walls, or anything like that. The crew put our beds together, and then rearranged our furniture as we wanted it. In all, it was the best professional move we've had out of 8 total. I would highly recommend Interstate. They may not be the least expensive, but they take great pride in the job and took excellent care of us.

They were great! We had to change our move date three times due to problems with the sale of our house, and they accommodated very well. They did a great job packing up and gave me some packing materials to pack some things myself. The move went without a hitch and just had a couple small items that didn't make it . I used Interstae for a move from Nashville to Burke, VA during one of the most difficult times of the year for movers - the week between Christmas and New Years with about 3 weeks notice.. Interstate did an excellent job with this logistic challenge. The estimator was prompt, professional and explained each step of the process. The day before the move the packers arrived on time and did a fantastic job. They were quick and careful with the household goods and knew exactly how to pack my 40 year old grandfather clock. The moving van arrived on time the next day. The four man team worked like a well oiled machine taking extra care with the clock and my children's upright piano. The driver had a challenge to get the semi into the apartment complex and he had to back the van up almost 200 yards to get it out of the complex. The furniture was delivered on Jan.3. We had 4 inches of snow the night before and the temperature was 20 degrees. The van arrived on time and the crew took care not to drag the snow into the house. All the furniture was placed in the three story townhouse as directed. Elener Erney of Interstate did a fantastic job co-ordinating this move from start to finish including calling us from Florida while on vacation to update us on the status of the move. There is no doubt we will used Interstate on our next move.

There was a minor hiccup in the planning phase. If you use them, make sure they send someone to your house in advance. Don't try to estimate the cost over email. The miscommunication lead to problems on moving day, but the management and the moving team totally rolled with it and have me moved in time at less than the estimated costs. The movers especially were terrific. They managed to stay easy-going and friendly even though it was a stressful move between two old buildings.

They grossly underestimated the price. They charged an extra $1,000.00 above the estimate. We asked for our stuff to be delivered on the 7th and they did not arrive until the 12th. They did not arrive on time which was a real inconvenience because we were in an empty house. After sending a complaint to the company, they decided to give us a $500.00 refund for the inconvenience and troubles.

The Interstate moving team was awesome. They were polite, efficient, friendly and most helpful. The team was very efficient with the inventory and there was great organizing on the truck. Men stepped to the plate when they saw that we needed help with some of the last minute things. They would take care of stuff knowing that there was a schedule to keep. What a team. Of the three estimates received to move my family from one single family unit to another in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Interstate Moving and Storage provided the most reasonable costs to pack, store and relocate our household goods. Though their estimated weight was slightly understated compared to other companies, their cost for packing, picking up furniture at a second site and storage was the better value. Knowing that my primary sales representative was hard to reach, she provided a contact in the main office if I needed immediate assistance. The Team of movers who loaded our furniture also delivered and unloaded it, which was very convenient since they were familiar with the contents and knew how to assemble some of the pieces of larger furniture. The Team also arrived within the stated hours as part of their Top Hat service. This was the first time we had ever used movers and overall, it went well. Moving is a draining experience, and I appreciated the work that was performed.
Description of Work: Estimating the cost to pack and move our household goods (HHG); packing and picking up HHG located in storage location; storing the HHG for several days in the two moving vans; and, placing HHG into the new residence.

Awesome experience. I have used Interstate for every move and storage need. Well worth the price.
Description of Work: Interstate packed and stored my stuff for several months. Wonderful job packing. I moved into my hew house on 11/30. The crew had my things out of storage, arranged to pick up additional items at my current residence, and them move everything to the new home. They were wonderful in taking things apart, wrapping them, and transferring them to the truck. They had sheets down to protect the floors and closed the door behind them as they moved things out. Once at the new house, they unpacked everything and moved it to the correct location. They set up three sets of bedroom furniture, including screwing together three beds. Crew was wonderful - friendly and helpful.

My initial packing and move to storage happened in late May. The movers showed up with no boxes and had no idea they were to pack my property. The driver took three hours to get boxes and return to my home. He did not bring the correct boxes or enough boxes to pack all of my belongings. My pots/pans and some clothes were packed in trash bags, and I was assured that they would be re-packed in boxes once they arrived at the warehouse. My slate tables, road bike, flat screen TVs were not packed correctly. I also had several boxes where my belongings were not even wrapped. They were dumped in a box with other loose items. I contacted Interstate to complain about the pack job their employees did. I explained that the boxes used were incorrect and the manner in which my items packed were not professional. I requested a discount. I was offered 120$ for being charged for the wrong boxes. I informed them it was the unprofessional packing that was the issue and I didn't think i should have to pay for a pack job i could have done with my friends. I have even sent them photos of the packing to document it. I have yet to hear back from Interstate. I also plan to file a complaint with the BBB. This issue is separate from the damage claim i am in the process of completing. This rating is in reference to the packing crew and not the delivery crew. The delivery crew was outstanding and even pointed out the bad packing job of the previous crew.

The estimate quote was very accurate. The movers were timely and professional. All our items arrived securely. We understood that it would be a 2-3 day turn around. The delivery took six days which we would like to have been told up front at the time of the move. It was difficult getting answers once the truck was loaded.

The movers/packers were timely and did a great job getting everything out and loaded up. We understood that we would be given a move in delivery day & time when the truck was loaded however we were never given a date, only an estimate. This might be the worst moving experience I've ever had! The estimator came in, reviewed my entire home, and told me that for the pack and move, it would cost less than $6000. That was with an agreed on 1 full day of packing followed by 2 full days of moving. As I have moved several times in the past few years, I know that this should be sufficient. At the time of the estimate, I told the estimator that I would be packing and moving most of the closets and bathrooms. However, he told me not to worry about the closets because the wardrobe boxes would be free of charge because it was prior to May 15. So we agreed that I would focus on packing up the dining room and kitchen as much as possible instead. Prior to the move, I had packed up 4 out of 5 bathrooms, the entire dining room, and 1/2 of the kitchen. I also took off the pantry and another closet from their list of things to pack as I had those covered. When the packers arrived, there were 1/2 the number of people needed to pack the house. I had my doubts as to how they were going to manage packing the entire house in a day, even with all that I had packed up already. When we went through the house, I was informed that I only had 7 wardrobe boxes allotted to me and that any extra I would have to pay for. The packing itself took forever. I have never seen people move so slowly in my life. At the end of the first day, they had only most of the bedrooms and 1/2 of the first floor done. They hadn't even gone into the basement. When I got a call at 5 PM that first day asking how Day 1 went, I informed them that Day 1 was far from over and that I had no idea how the movers were going to move the next day when the house wasn't packed. That's when I was told that the packers would be back for another day and that the movers would pick up the following day. Not at all what we had discussed! The next morning 2 of the packers were back along with 7 movers. You'd think that 7 people could move a house full of furniture in a timely manner, but that didn't seem to be the case. Instead of 2 days of moving, it took them THREE! And before they left that last night, they informed me that they had left the dryer at the old house, couldn't find the screws for my daughter's bed, and showed me 3 major broken items. In the end, they had actually broken more than just that - I have 2 end tables with legs ripped right off, the corner piece of my solid wood footboard was smashed, they broke the hinge off the screen door and split the door jam, dented my brand new refrigerator, and broke a handle off of a chest. Which leads me to the claims process.... All claims must be filled out via an on-line form. On that form, you *must* place a dollar value for repairs in order to just submit the claims form. When I contacted the claims adjuster, she told me to put anything in the field - even $1. Just so that the system can enter it. However, as I just found out, that becomes your settlement value. Instead of coming to see if they can fix any of the items they broke, they want to use my GUESSES about fixing costs as a settlement. The only good thing I can say is that at least everyone is nice (unlike a prior experience where everyone during this process was nasty). However, nice won't fix my items or pay the additional $6000 that this move cost over what was initially estimated.

Response from Interstate Moving & Storage
We sincerely regret the many issues that developed during the move for the member that culminated in her dissatisfaction. We have investigated every aspect of this transaction from the beginning to the end in an effort to determine why these failures occurred. As with most failed projects the problems will often derive from the basic planning stage, and we are convinced that this case is a prime example of that premise. Our investigation revealed that there was never a clear understanding between the customer and our representative of exactly what items were to be packed and moved. We, of course, must accept the blame for any misunderstanding in that regard. Notes taken by our representative indicate that some rooms and many items were to be packed by the customer. For some undetermined reason most of these items were left for the crew to pack. That issue was not known until the crew arrived at the house which accounted for the additional labor requirements. This additional labor not only increased the cost but caused havoc with the companies’ labor schedule all contributing to poor performance. Our records indicate that the customer was kept well informed throughout the move as problems became known. As to the claims issue, I can only say that as of this date no claim settlement has been made, but it will be settled to the customers satisfaction within a few days. The customers concern about the residence damage is unfounded as we will have all residence damage repaired professionally without any additional cost to the customer. Again, we pride ourselves on quality service and we take these remarks very seriously. In as much as we agonize over failures such as this, we very much appreciate customers who take the time to let us know about them so that we can take the necessary action to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Perfect! And that's saying a lot - I'm hard to please. - Started with excellent thorough and timely customer service and responsiveness from Kimberly. - I was nervous about the hoisting and how it would be done. So the operations manager called me to explain and ease my concerns, saying they are experienced with this kind of furniture move. - Had patience with me while The furniture manufacturer took their time. - Had all the right insurance and paperwork ready - Lady named Lisa very prompt about calling me a couple days before to re-confirm everything. And she called immediately after service to check on everything. - Movers arrived on time. Were prepared and professional. It only took about 5 min to perform the hoist. I was amazed! Total prep time, hoist, and clean up was less than an hour. (well within the estimated time). They even made the move easier by taking my screens out and then putting them back in for me (I didn't even know they came off). - I was just sorry I couldn't tip them more - didn't have much cash. But the "manager" guy was nice about it and seemed to take it in stride. - I was extremely nervous about this move. But it was one of the best customer service and service performed I ever had! Highly recommend.

We have moved 3 times in the last five years, and each time we have used Interstate. They earned our business with their competitive pricing, and professionalism. The professionalism of the front office, the manners of the movers, and the accountability of everyone throughout the move has always blown me away. The way they stay in touch during the move, and follow up after is how all companies should do business. I've used other movers in the past who were satisfactory, but Interstate always goes the extra mile. The training the movers recieve not only how to move, but how to deal with customers really sets them apart. On the day of the move they arrived on time, and each member of the moving team introduced themselves to me. The team leader surveyed the property with me to make sure of everything that was to be completed. I was so impressed with the service, I bought them lunch ($30)...they were really happy. They inventoried all of my belongings, and carefully went over the list after it was packed. They finished the job, and left the house in good shape - free of debris.

Everything went perfectly according to the schedule. Everything packed out of my house on the day it was supposed to and arrived 7:30am on the date I was promised. The crew worked fast and effectively getting everything unpacked and placed in the spot my wife wanted. It was surprisingly smooth.
Description of Work: Interstate Moving moved me from Texas to Virginia. Even though I only had 4 days notice, they were able to fit me into their schedule. Having moved a few times in the past, I knew what kind of feat this was for them. I really did not think they would be able to pull this off, but to my amazement, they did.
