Brick chimney needed repairs including partial demolition and re-bricking. They were honest with good pricing, punctual, and had great brick mason craftsmanship which included a good match of existing brick and mortar.

I had a leaky chimney. I had several people out and each told me something different but none of their solutions worked. John came out, took one look and said that my problem was the chimney crown. He applied some special stuff to the top of the chimney and voila! No more leak. So far I have been trough several hard rains and not a drop of leak. Thanks John!

Fairfax Chimney and Fence installed the original fence that surrounds my end-unit townhouse over a decade ago. They had been chosen originally by a rental agent, but I decided to call them -- as well as a few other providers -- for a quote for repairs. Hands down, Fairfax Chimney and Fence was the most responsive. John, the owner, visited my property within 24-48 hours of my original call, whereas I am still awaiting a call back from one of the other service providers I contacted. I didn't accept John's first quote, which suggested repairs a little more ambitious (and expensive) than I was willing to undertake at the time. (Now that I'm on a fixed income in retirement, I have to be a little more careful.) I explained my predicament, and John came up with a quote that was a little over half of the original for a smaller project. I accepted, and a few days later, two workmen came out to do the necessary repairs. Not only did Fairfax Chimney and Fence replace all the vertical and horizontal fence boards we had talked about, the workmen also used long wood screws to nail down a deck board that was beginning to warp (not a part of the original quote) and to make some minor repairs on the fence gate when they noticed a problem. Again, this was not a part of the original quote. The workmen were efficient and polite, and they cleaned up after themselves. I called John to tell him I was pleased with the project and to ask an additional favor -- whether I could delay the payment by a few days until I got a new credit card so that I could get mileage points by charging this job to the new card. John said he had been in a similar situation a few times, and he agreed to the short delay. Everything has now been paid and I just need to stain the new boards (once they weather sufficiently) to have the entire fence look practically brand new. Fairfax Chimney and Fence did a great job, and I would have no hesitation is using them again or recommending them to others.

Extremely well - better than expected,

I called Fairfax Chimney & Fence on Friday because we noticed the cap on our chimney had blown over. Left a message for John who returned my call and said he'd be out Monday to take a look at it. John arrived on time and found that he needed some more man power for the job but in the meantime I had him look at our two fireplaces and give me an estimate for cleaning and repair (the mortar on one of the fireplaces had crumbled). The estimate was reasonable so we scheduled the work to be done. John and his crew again showed up on time and did an excellent job on everything. They were courteous, professional and left no trace of the work they had done. John is friendly, meticulous, respectful and obviously knows his business and is good at it. I would hire them again and recommend them highly.

We had some mortar holes filled and chimney crown repaired a couple of years back but our chimney began leaking again this past Spring. Fairfax recommended water proofing with a sealant and agreed to patch up some bricks. About 3 major rain storms have passed by, including a 2' downpour last week, and so far no more leaky chimney. I would give them a higher quality rating, but it's only been a month so it would be premature to give them an A. They are a smaller operation so their response is a little slow via e-mail/phone, but they showed up when they said they would and that's all you can really ask for. I would consider using them again in the future.

Excellent. Second time we have used Fairfax Chimney, and they are just great--real pros. John himself analyzed the problem(s) with leaks from the chimney, which had caused water damage in our basement bedroom, and came up with an inexpensive corrective action plan. His guy arrived right on time and did a good job, patching the mortar and sealing the chimney.

They were very punctual, cleaned up every day, and very professional. Work was delayed because of all the snow but they came as soon as possible, protected the grass as much as possible. It was not an easy job! When I was taking bids it became impossible to compare apples to apples and when I called the owner to ask if he could explain a few things to me he was very helpful and honest. His bid did not include extras nor was it a "Cadillac" bid. I would certainly use them again.

It went very well and surprisingly quickly. It only took one day to remove the old chimney and another day to rebuild a new chimney and replaced the damaged brick on the house wall. The water proofing was done the following week.

We purchased our house a year ago and shortly after moving in we hired Fairfax Chimney to sweep our chimneys. We burned a fair amount of wood last year and thought we need to get our chimney swept again. John arrive right on time. He inspected our fireplaces and said they looked good so they did not need to be swept - he charged us only $20 for the inspection. John also replaced our Chimney caps which were rusting and falling apart. He also placed a piece of metal between the two caps which has eliminated smoke entering our lower level through the second fireplace. Overall - great job and would highly recommend this company!

Working with Fairfax Chimney and Fence Inc.. was a great experience. They were prompt, courteous and not all pushy, when they came to give me my estimate. They removed the chase cover with new factory ?primed steel, custom cut for my chimney. They also added a metal bearing in order to prevent ponding of water. They also painted the new metal with oil-based paint and painted the chimney cap with black high temperature paint. Their price was reasonable compared to other estimates and the allowed me to pay in two installments. I would highly recommend them and would use their services again if needed. I am just sorry it took me so long to write this review.

Not well. I had three other opinions and none agreed with this outrageous estimate. The cost was $500ish.

The chimney was in good condition and did not need anything other than a cleaning. I felt like they did not try to sell me more than what I needed. John was prompt and professional. Would use again.

It went pretty well. He quoted me a price of 149 for cleaning my chimney and that's what it cost. He is a one man company and was very competent and neat. He climbed on the roof to look at the chimney and took an iphone picture so I could see what he saw. He then did what I expected and tried to upsale a mortar and chimney sealing and new SS chimney cap totalling $850. I'm sure that's how they make the real money. However in his defense, it was not a high pressure sales pitch. He took the149 and left and did not follow up on the repair proposal. And I ended up with a clean chimney.

John arrived within the two hour window I was given. I had been quoted a price of $149 to clean and inspect my chimney. After looking, he told me it wasn't very dirty and didn't require cleaning at this time. Said he would just perform the inspection for $75. After getting on the roof he gave a favorable report on the state of the fireplace chimney, roof shingles, and furnace chimney, and told me to call him in a couple years for cleaning. His honesty was most appreciated.
