Exterior Medics

We had outstanding emergency service from this company, but the follow-up repair service was only average. Some of the problems stemmed from the fact that we had a roofing emergency during Tropical Storm Lee. Water was leaking from around a skylight into our bathroom wall. This company was the only one that responded with same-day service, although I called two others before reaching Exterior Medics. We were told the cost for emergency service would be $600. The roofer came, climbed on the roof during pouring rain, took pictures of the damage, and installed a waterproof tarp. We received a bill for $600 a few days later. I thought that the company would follow-up with an estimate of what it would cost to repair the roof. However, after waiting a week or 10 days, nothing came so I called again. I was told I had to schedule another visit for someone to give us an estimate. I didn't understand why that was necessary since they already had seen and photographed the damage. Meanwhile, we could not go ahead with interior repairs until the leak was taken care of. I was having trouble communicating with the company, until the president, Joe LeVecchi, took over. He decided that he could do the estimate using the photos that had been taken during the tarp installation. I was annoyed that we had been told we had to schedule an extra visit, which turned out to be unnecessary, and delayed the whole process. When we received the estimate, it was more than our insurance company offered to pay. Mr. LeVecchi worked with the insurance company to make a supplemental payment to cover the cost of the estimate. The weather was rainy much of the month, and we had little contact with the company. We first called them on Sept. 6 and the work wasn't completed until Oct. 22. Weeks passed before we were finally put on the schedule for repairs. Mr. LeVecchi told us we were in line to be taken care of as soon as possible, but after others who had called first. Once we were finally scheduled, we were told the repairmen would come between 12 and 4, but no one came. When I called to find out what was happening, Mr. LeVecchi told me that our job had been loaded on the truck but the repairman had dropped his cell phone and it broke, so he had no contact with him that day. He assured me they would come that afternoon -- or maybe the next day. Meanwhile, we discovered another small leak in another area of the roof. Mr. LeVecchi said the repairman would check it out when he came. The crew arrived the next day and did the work. When I asked them about the other leak, they seemed baffled. Apparently no one told them we wanted them to look at it. However, one of the men climbed onto the roof again, found the problem, and fixed it. We were not charged for this extra service.

EM performed roof repair in attempt to solve a persistent leak and replaced old and damaged gutters. The price appeared commensurate with the work performed and was completed in a timely manner. I have nothing but praise for the employees and estimators for EM.

It was a busy time of year and they were very responsive and made time to help cover the roof until they could make it out for permanent repair. The workers even came to the door and introduced themselves before they even started. They are a top notch company and you definitely get what you pay for. The owner is hands on and oversees everything.

Wow, I was blown away by the positive experience I had with this organization and Tom Green in particular. I have a busy schedule and between that and weather issues we were having trouble setting up the initial inspection. Tom went out of his way to find a solution that worked for me, and I was extremly impressed by his comprehensive, honest, and pleasant work! A few months after the inspection (after tropical storm Lee), I noticed a large ceiling water spot that appeared to be a roof leak. Due to the high volume of work after the storm, Exterior Medics was booked up for three weeks. However, Tom went out of his way, driving from Springfield to Oakton in rush hour, to see us after hours and check out the situation. It turned out to be an issue where the storm was so intence that water was leaking in through a vent, so there had been no problems with Tom's initial inspection whatsoever. Organizations like Exterior Medics and especially people like Tom Green are rareties, and I am so happy to have had the pleasure of interacting with them.

They have good salesmanship to excellent service. They were outstanding and excellent performance. I highly recommend them to others.

I purchased the Angie's List special of having a roof maintenance inspection performed by Exterior Medics on 6/24/2011. Tom Green was very punctual, professional, and courteous, and spent time inspecting the roof. What I thought set Exterior Medics apart from the other roofing companies that I have dealt with in the past is that they take digital pictures of your roof while they inspect and so when they come down to talk to you they show you their pictures. This is the first time I ever saw what my whole roof looked like since I can only see parts of the roof from my second story windows and only other parts from ground level outside. My roof was in fine shape, so that was very good. I knew that a few shingles had fallen off so they had to be replaced. Also, Tom found that some wood around my dormer window had rotted so I had him replace and repaint that wood. I did have Tom also inspect my soffits and ridge vents because I always felt my attic was a lot hotter than it should be. Tom thoroughly checked the soffits and ridge vents and found that the soffits were fine but the ridge vents were not installed properly when the house was built. I purchased 3 Air Vent Shingle Vent II ridge vents, had the 4 shingles replaced, and had the rotted wood around the dormer window replaced and painted. I received a 5% discount because I was an Angie's List member, which was very nice. They were able to perform all the work on 6/27/2011. The crew of 5 men who came out were very punctual, professional, friendly, and efficient. They did a great job. I would definitely recommend this company to my family and friends.

They were very nice people. They were very respectful and their presentation was very nice. However, the need to do this work was not immediate.

This is an excellent company. They are all professional, kind, cleanly, and skilled. I would recommend them to my mother.

I cannot say enough good about this company and their approach to a very thorny construction problem. They went fast when it was time to work, they were methodical when it was time to think. I was treated at all times in a completely professional manner. I hope I don't have the need for them again anytime soon, but I would not hesitate to hire Exterior Medics again if I needed work done. In fact, I would strongly prefer them over anyone else.

Very customer-oriented, prompt, knowledgeable, courteous, clean. The president personally contacted me on a punch-list item which he resolved immediately. Very professional!

Joe, the president/owner, showed up quickly and on time. He did a thorough inspection of our roof and fixed a couple of items while up there. He showed me photos of what problems he saw and made detailed recommendations for repairs he could not fix right then and there. I was extremely happy with his company and recommend anyone to consider using Exterior Medics.

Tom Green came out and explained what hewould be doing. Then he went up on the roof to check everything, he sealed any cracks and took before and after pictures. He downloaded the photos to his computer and whet through them one by one to explain what he saw and what we might need to do. There was one damaged shingle but he said it wasn't anything to worry about. I found him very honest, he didn't try to sell me on anything and I really appreciated that. He compiled his report and send the whole thing (with pictures) to us via email. I was very happy with the service and would call them again if we need anything done to our roof.

ExteriorMedics did an excellent job. The first contact was when one of their consultants, Tom Green, came out, inspected the roof, took pictures and made minor repairs. After a thorough explanation of each picture and the general condition of the roof, I asked for an estimate to correct the problems rather than replace roof at this time. There was no pressure at all to completely replace the roof. The estimate was made and explained on the spot and we agreed to have the work done. They scheduled at a time convenient to us. They sent a crew to do the work. They were friendly and efficient and finished the job in much less time than expected. I asked the consultant to come back out and review the pictures that the crew had taken after they completed the work with my wife and me. I also asked the consultant to visually inspect the roof, chimney, etc., to be sure there the job was completed appropriately and there were no other 'emergency' repairs needed. I then asked a number of questions about other problems/conditions we had concerning some rotted wood in the front and rotted wood surrounding the sliding glass door to the deck and side windows as well as rotted wood around the french doors, also to the deck. I'm now waiting for an estimate to replace the doors and windows and replace rotted wood.

I first had Exterior Medics out to inspect my roof using Angieis Big Deal. I expected they would say that there were things I needed to have done in order to drum up business but they said that the roof looked good... better than my neighbors' and that it was probably good for 3 or so more years. I asked them about cleaning the gutters and they said they would need to come back out and measure. Tom came out quickly and provided an estimate within the hour of his visit. He gave me three estimates. One to clean, flush and tighten screws on existing gutters and to replace the old screen shields that were collapsing into the gutters with EZ lock screens ; one to replace the gutters and install new ones with EZ lock; and an estimate to replace the gutters with new ones that had a more expensive type of cover. So I got three estimates ranging from $725 - $2300. I opted for the less expensive option because I still had lots of other work I needed to get done on the house. They were originally going to come in July but I got a call one morning that they would be there that morning. Weather had forced cancellations of other jobs that were weather-dependent so they got to me way earlier than I expected. That was a bit of a surprise because I hadn't budgeted to pay for it right then. However, it all worked out. They did the job quickly and well. They had a job supervisor there the entire time. I'm very pleased.

CONSULTATION AND ESTIMATE: We consulted with four roofing companies that are recommended by the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau. Exterior Medics was among the most patient, thorough and knowledgeable. They provided a detailed and reasonable estimate. Exterior Medics were also recommended by several neighbors who had their roofs replaced by the company a few years earlier. SCHEDULING: We ordered heavy (3/4 inch) cedar shakes, and there were some unanticipated delays in the milling and delivery. We were kept informed of the status and consulted regularly on how we wanted to proceed. The delay brought us into January and we were concerned about installation in very cold weather. Exterior Medics kept tabs on the weather and worked with us to schedule the installation when we had the most favorable conditions. Everything went very smoothly. We appreciated that our concerns, warranted or not, were always taken seriously, that all of our conversations were pleasant, and that every effort was made to make us feel comfortable about the process. INSTALLATION: Ricardo, Fernando and their crew performed most of the installation. They did a fantastic job, paying attention to all the details, and were always friendly and professional. Matt and Steve Bruin supervised the installation and made sure that all of our questions were answered and our concerns were addressed along the way. It's now several months later and we've had no problems. Our new roof came out beautifully, and we are completely satisfied with the work and all of our dealings with Exterior Medics. Our overall impression of the company was that Exterior Medics takes pride in its work and is focused on building a reputation based on excellent work and great customer service.

Purchased roof maintenance package via Angie's list "Big Deal". Contractor showed for initial appointment on 5/24. Stated that roof was wet from recent rain and would return the following day (5/25). Contractor did not show or call. I've made repeated calls to contractor and left messages. The one time my call was actually answered, the individual there stated he would have to refer the matter to someone else. Exterior Medic subsequently responded explained what went wrong in their process. They provided a complete refund for the work not performed. Probably the best recovery given the unfortunate experience.

The sales consultant, Tom Green, was very professional and friendly. He showed me all kinds of pictures of the roof, and he told me that my roof was in very good shape, and I didn't need to have anything done. Also, when I asked if I could pay him to clean my three skylight windows, he said yes but he wouldn't take any pay, he just said, "I'll be happy to do it for you." He was a great guy, and I would call for him again anytime that I needed something about my roof.

There was some work that was needed on my chimney. A week after the work was done; my chimney cap blew off, which I have never had that happen the 25 years that I have been in this house. The owner was very responsive when I called him and sent the guy out to put the chimney cap back on right away. Even though there was an issue, they were very responsive in dealing with the situation. Overall the work was good and the company stood by it, which goes a long way with me. .

I was able to get an appointment that worked with my schedule, however the rain made it necessary for the appointment consultant to call and work to reschedule,she was ever so pleasant and concerned that my schedule was not compromised. Tom Green arrived on the scheduled date,neat and professional, introduced himself and explained what he would be doing. He took photos(on inspection ) made a few minor corrections(took photos) We than viewed the photos, as he explained what he saw. Checking my roof is not something I see myself doing,and I am satisfied that the roof is in pretty good shape and what possible problems exist. Kudos to Exterior Medics

I had purchased a Big Deal for the company to come out and inspect my roof. Even though he put some exttra caulking on the roof, he informed me that it was temporary and he gave me a price for what it would cost to have a replacement or repair. I wasn't happy that they had a minimum price of several hundred and I felt that that was a little bit high. They leaked seemed to be fixed very well.

They did a great job. Would definitely use them again.

The crew showed up on the date and time scheduled, performed all work described above, and cleaned up completely. They also used a magnet to ensure that no nails remained. I have dogs so this was very important to me.

Showed up right on time, that is about the only good thing that came of this. I signed up for Angie's Big Deal Roof Maintenance package for $149.00. He arrived on time, took a ladder and got on the roof. After 10 minutes he came down with a digital camera and showed me some pictures of missing shingles, approximately 5 spots. He then told me it would be $450.00 to replace 5 shingles, and I would have to schedule that. I asked him what the $149.00 covered, he told me the inspection and caulking flashing if needed. No caulking was necessary, so that was it. I can not recommend this company, this is a lousy Big Deal. Walk around on the roof for 10 minutes or less, take a couple pictures with a digital camera, and charge $149.00. He told me he would go back up and caulk something if I wanted him to. $149.00 for basically nothing, my opinion is this is nothing more than a scam. Don't waste your money here, get a free estimate instead.

I contacted EM based on Angie's List, and met with a salesperson in person in October. Matt did a full inspection of our roof, and provided us an estimate promptly that was competitively priced, and included the correct features for a well functioning roof. We had one other bid from a company we had hired previously to do our siding, who we had compared to 3 other siding companies, but their roofing services were not as competitive. I wanted to change some features of the project, but did not receive a response for a few months via email. I emailed the general customer service address and notified them of my issue, and I received a call immediately from the owner Mark. He priortized our project to make up for the lag in service, and we met with him in person the following weekend with the original salesperson who was very apologetic. We were able to sign an updated contract at the end of the 2 hour appointment, which included an inspection. EM came back in the early Spring with project manager Matt Bruen, and 6 workmen installed our roof in 1 day. The bilingual foreman showed us pictures of the installation because we were not present, and so far the roof seems to be functioning well. We appreciate that they cleaned our gutters, and left the worksite as they originally found it. A neighbor who was present during the day complimented them to me on their work. I would use them again and have already recommended them to friends.

After contacting Exterior Medics concerning my siding, they send a representative the next morning to do an estimate. It happened to be raining that day so knowing that I needed to get the work done ASAP was evident. The representative looked at the problems and stated he would return to the office with the photographs he had taken and work up a estimate. The representative was very professional at the time and said they would contact me by the next day. After not hearing from the company for three days I called and asked if they had an estimate. I was told the person I needed to speak with was out of the office but that they would contact him and have him call me. After waiting another day with no return call, and more rain in the forecast, I had to scrabble to get someone else out to my house to fix the problem. With the above being said, the measure of a great company is not in how they did when things went right but how they did when things went wrong. As soon as President of Exterior Medics discovered what had happened he immediately started calling me to not only apologize but to give me an explanation of what had happened. He did not try to shift the blame and accepted full responsibility for the delay. He asked that his company be given a chance to make things right and since I had an understanding of the circumstances that caused the delay I accepted his offer and I'm glad I did. This company exceeded my expectations in that they could have just let my complaint fall on deaf ears and move on along but they didn't. They were not willing to accept that one customer was dissatisfied and worked very hard to overcome my judgmental mentality and in the end made me a believer that this company is great and I would recommend them to anyone.
