This company was recommended by 2 other neighbors. The price was the highest, however, there were 2 areas of concern (dead valleys) which we had a previous leak, and Exterior Medics addressed both areas in complete detail in the estimate. After discussing these concerns with the other companies only one of the others would address them fully; the others indicated that they couldn't specify until they actually started the work and could not guarantee the price would not change nor guarantee replacement of our siding if they damaged it. We chose Exterior Medics over the other company which also fully addressed our concerns as we thought their approach was better; the price was only $425 less that Exterior Medics. And, Exterior Medics guarantees everything - lifetime - and it's transferrable. Time was taken to answer all questions in a thorough and professional manner. . The only concern was that the company uses subcontractors, but we were provided lien releases. And, as indicated below, however, the whole process couldn't have been better! We had a high degree of confidence that we made the right choice. The process went smooth from start to finish. The estimate process was more detailed than the other estimates. It consisted of walking the roof, taking measurements, and pictures. Thereafter, a second visit was schedule to provide an estimate. This was not a hard sell presentation as initially might happen. Pictures of the roof were presented (via computer), including all vents, along with the chimney. It was explained that the roof was not in dire need to be replaced, but the vent collars should be replaced as they were cracked. The picture of the chimney cap showed that there was a crack in it. It was reassuring to actually see the pictures in lieu of a verbal description. A decision to replace the roof had already been decided, as the roof was nearly 19 years old and prices wouldn't get any better. The picture of the chimney cap was a surprise. No other company had looked at it. It was explained that this crack could lead to leaks within the chimney and it was possible to see water in the firebox. This had happened and after taking personal measures there was still some water seepage. Again, this confirmed the honesty of their assessment. It made only sense to take care of this and did so with Exterior Medics without pursuing any additional estimates. The chimney cap was repaired first and then the roof was scheduled. We were initially told that this was a 2 day process. However, a crew of approximately 7 arrived as scheduled and completed the job in one day. Throughout the process, when I had any questions, they were answered by the crew foreman in a professional manner. As the crew continued work through the day, a visit was made by the next level manager to ensure the job was being completed properly. Pictures were even taken during the process and shown to us after they finished. Thereafter, later that day, I also received a call asking if I had any questions or concerns. It was so nice to deal with a company that truly cared about their service and the satisfaction of their customer! The only disappointment was the clean-up of nails. They could have swept our driveway more thoroughly; we found approximately 10 over a period of a few weeks. We would look each time after finding a couple but somehow they just kept showing up; a few in the expansion joints, however. On the plus, we haven't experienced any flat tires, although we hope there aren't any slow leaks happening! :)
Description of Work: Replaced complete roof, to include vent collars flashings and also had chimney cap replaced.

I had had a similar service some years ago and wasn't terribly pleased with it. These guys were very prompt and did a very thorough job. The guy clearly knew what he was talking about and found a couple of little problems and fixed them. He gave me a report on what I needed to do and when to replace the roof. He also gave me advise on gutters. It was well worth the money.
Description of Work: They did a little bit of maintenance and a roofing inspection. They also inspected my gutters.

This was a very big and somewhat complicated job, and Exterior Medics came through with flying colors. It was complicated because we live in the Parker Gray/Old Town historic district in Alexandria, where the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) gets to put their noses into every project. The BAR required us to show them our progress every step of the way, to match an underlying wood profile which required custom milling, and to preserve old wood where possible. It did turn into an expensive project, but we were aware of that from the beginning and the price never changed from the initial quote. Exterior Medics dealt with my daily presence and detailed requests with good spirits and patience, and pulled off an awesome job. They also offer a lifetime guarantee, and stood by their work by fixing a few things that came apart in the 1st big downpour, patching a few more places with caulk, and replacing and repainting a few pieces that didn't fit well after the earthquake. We are extremely satisfied with the end product and get compliments all the time, I think we are now the best looking house on the block. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed old siding, replaced underlayment where necessary, replaced and added new insulation, repaired and replaced window frames and door frames, applied new siding, painted.

The work took an entire day, but I was impressed with how hard the crew worked. They tore everything off and replaced some rotting boards and sloped the balcony floor to properly drain. They installed custom flashing and improved the gutters and finished it off with a nice membrane that can be walked on. I was very impressed with the final outcome. [Update] Approximately 7 months later I still have a leak where the balcony is located. Exterior Medics has been out twice to do more caulking and testing (part of the lifetime warranty). They have determined that the balcony is not leaking (perhaps it never was). The problem seems to be with some micro cracks in the brick or maybe the flashing around the door. So it seems I fixed an expensive problem that I never had. I've also had some scheduling mishaps the last time. I stayed home all day only to have no one show up. Also, now that they have determined the leak is not in their work they seem to have little interest in dealing with me or the issue (after someone came and water tested the balcony in various parts I have not heard from them several days later). I feel that perhaps a water test should have been done initially to diagnose the problem, perhaps saving me thousands of dollars and months of grief. [Update] Overall the work they did was good, but perhaps not what was needed to solve my problem.
Description of Work: A master bedroom balcony was leaking into the interior ceiling below. Oscar from Exterior Medics came out and examined the problem. He put together a plan to completely replace the membrane, flashing, and decking. It was all very customized and I'm confident it will fix the issues we've been having. I also had some minor roof repairs done on the main roof of the house.

Mark from Exterior Medics came out to our home and gave us a very thorough appraisal of our roof issues. Mark showed us pictures of nail pops, rust, wood rot, and all sorts of problems. We got a comparable estimate from another roofing company and went with EM based on another close friend's good experience with EM. We had a new roof within 1-2 weeks after giving EM the go-ahead.
Description of Work: Exterior Medics removed two layers of old roofing and replaced about 16 sheets of rotting plywood. They installed ridge vents, an edge vent, and a drip strip - all in one day! They also added insulation (R49) to our attic w/baffling to permit air flow. The roof looks great. They were friendly, responsive, and easy to work with. They even came back to build up the opening of our attic hatch.

Exterior Medics came within a day or 2 (I don't remember) to give and estimate and started and completed the repair in another day or so. The quick response was important since this problem was discovered in early January. Their price was a bit high, but you get what you pay for - the job was done quickly and correctly. Very professional. I'm contacting them now for an unrelated repair.
Description of Work: The furnace technician found our roof was leaking around a vent pipe. Exterior Medic repaired the roof, replaced shingles. They installed new flashing and sealed around the leaky vent as well as 2 others.

I contacted exterior medics because a Wind storm had caused about 10 feet of flashing and a few feet of sophet to tear away from the roof/side of my house. Exterior Medics provided an estimate that was 3-times what I had paid in the past and 3-times the other quotes that I received. I did not choose Exterior Medics. However, after finding out about my experience (from Angie's list), the owner of the company contacted me multiple times to discuss my experience and to rectify it. After discussions with him, I now believe that my experience was an anomoly and will consider Exterior Medics in the future.

They originally gave us a repair date that was a few weeks out, but worked us into the schedule within one week. The workers were efficient and courteous. I will definitely recommend them to family and friends.

After a healthy debate over the sevices and the recommendations, I proposed fixing the actual problem, diverting the water properly and modifying the gutter cover to accept the water. Further, I suggested that if that did not fix the problem we could explore more inspections. He said he could not do that without the tear up of the roof for the inspections part of the project. I refused to allow them to do this. My impression is they wanted to do alot of extra work to eliminate all possibilities for problems. Subsequently, the owner called me to resolve my issues with the work. He bent over backwards to make it right. He came out, personally, to my house and did a thorough inspection. He took pictures and emailed them to me that evening. He sent a crew to my house to do the basic work.....sealing, caulking, and diverting the gutter drain. I tried to get an estimate but he refused to allow me to pay. After the job was completed in the coming days he called at least twice to check up on things and ask if the repairs were satisfactory. It has not rained since the repairs. I will definitely call Exterior Medics back if additional work is needed. They have gained my trust and confidence. I have rarely observed such a proactive company. Exterior Medics will be the people I call in the future for roofing help.
Description of Work: We wanted a roof inspection to identify the cause of roof water not getting into the gutters and leaking down the side of the house. The inspector came out and looked at the roof area from a ladder. He never got on the roof. He identified that the probable cause was that roof run-off was not getting into the gutter because it was being diverted by the gutter cover in that area. He also identified some recommendations to install additional getter pipes to better direct flow across the roof. We then went into the house to look for interior leaks. He did not find any. Here is where I have my issue with the company. He recommended the sections of the roof be torn up and inspected at a cost of almost $1400 even though there were no indications of leakage and he did not physically get on the roof to look.

When the repairmen came, they were polite and prompt. They worked quickly to detach the old gutters and replace the new ones. They collected the old gutters and all the debris and left my front and back yard clean. The new gutters look nice, and the color was a perfect match to my home. I'm extremely happy with the prompt service and professionalism of the staff. Though the inspection technician took a bit long to get back to me with an estimate, he did provide a fair estimate. Once we agreed on the charges, it took the company two days to come and replace the gutters. My only complain is that the replacement team called me the same day that they were coming to do the job (while they were driving to my house). I had no idea that the repair had been scheduled. However, I'm happy with the results and would definitely hire this company again.
Description of Work: Our gutters were leaky and detached from the roof, so I contacted this company to get an estimate for repairs. However, the technician who visited recommended that I replace the gutters because the ones I had were damaged. He also recommended that I replace the spout with a wider one to allow water to descend more efficiently. He took a few days to call back with an estimate, but when he did so, he explained everything he recommended and answered all my questions.

There has not been a leak since. At a glance you would the gutter drainage has nothing to due with the problem. Apparently it did.
Description of Work: Exterior Medics, Inc sent out a tech to talk with me and examine a problem I was having with a leak through the garage ceiling. He determined that it was because of poor drainage caused by the home builder. He stated what his company was going to do to fix the problem. A few weeks later a crew came out and installed a new gutter system and directed the drainage from the roof.

Requested and received an estimate on 12/27/2011. Appeared reasonable. Exterior Medics has done work for me before and I was confident they would do a great job. I had to follow up to get them to schedule the work, but they also had to wait for good weather, and it was a fairly small job. Once scheduled, they showed up and promptly did everything requested and it looks great.

All went well with a professional salesman and two workers. They renewed a deteriorating chimney replacing old bricks and mortar. The contract originally called for repairs from the roof-line up, but Walter, the crew chief, called my attention to other areas that needed attention and I agreed to the additional work. There have been a couple of rainy days since the work was completed and there are no leaks. Everyone let me know what was happening, arrived on time and, as I say, did a professional job.

From the quote to the site visit to getting the work done quickly before it rained through invoicing, Exterior Medics were friendly, responsive, and easy to work with. Tom was familiar with the neighborhood, had all the parts ordered before work started, and advised on cost effectively replacing the just-starting-to-rot fascia board with an aluminum clad board instead. They left no trace behind besides a good repair. Just having bought the house and knowing the prior owners hadn't regularly kept up with the gutter leaves or the slate roof, we weren't sure what to expect -- but Exterior Medics made it easy. I just had to pick the color of the new gutter and fascia cladding. The roofline now looks great and - better yet - will reliably keep the interior dry. We plan to call them again for annual gutter cleaning and roof checks, as well as any needed exterior work.

We noticed staining in the ceiling area between the dining room and the kitchen on the 2nd floor of our 4-story townhouse. Exterior Medics sent an employee to assess the situation and it appeared the problem was a roof area adjacent to the leak on a bump-out originally intended for a fireplace. The roofing was replaced in this small area and the flashing and seams around the siding repaired. A few days later the ceiling repair crew arrived only to find the ceiling soaking wet (it had been raining for a few days). The ceiling was opened up and water was dripping from above the repaired roof area. The Exterior Medics sales guy returned and looked at the roof area on top of the 3rd floor which was easily viewed from the 4th floor dormer. There appeared to be defects in this roof so they returned and removed the old roof area and added a membrane, flashing, new shingles and adjusted the gutters. We waited for rain, and unfortunately the ceiling still dripped water. The owner returned with two of his installers and the sales guy and took a look at the situation again and found caulking defects around the 3-panel window on the 4th floor. The window was caulked around all sides and we waited for rain. This time the drip stopped. The interior repair crew returned and repaired the ceiling area. This was a tough problem to solve and fairly expensive. The first repair was $1,640 which included fixing the interior ceiling, the second repair $2,390. There was no additional charge for the caulking around the window. I understand the difficulty in detecting and repairing water leaks. Exterior Medics was professional, courteous, and cleaned up behind their work. They stayed with the problem until it was solved. My only complaint, and this is minor, is they were tied up in traffic one morning and arrived about 1.5 hours behind schedule. A quick phone call when they started to run late would have been appreciated. This is an excellent roofing/siding/window repair company.
Description of Work: I contacted Exterior Medics to determine the cause of a water stain in the ceiling and to fix the source of the water infiltration. This required 3 repairs to the exterior of the house to eliminate the source of the leak and 1 repair to the interior of the house to replace and paint the stained ceiling area.

I am Exterior Medics biggest fan. Last May, I contracted with a local company to have my roof, siding and window wraps done. NOT with Exterior Medic (though I would have used them had I known about them). A project that should have taken 2 weeks dragged out until September. There were so many problems during the job that I was sure that some of the work was not done correctly. It is almost impossible to get another roofing /home improvement company to inspect another's work. The first inspector I hired showed up once, and them never came back, even after my going to the office to speak to the manager. See my reviews for more information. Company number two came out and did complete a report. "In our opinion, clearly the workers cared about the result. The roofing was done well". This for a new roof with visible holes caused my pump jacks (for siding installation) crooked shingles, nails sticking out,etc... I then hired Mark Watson of Exterior Medics. He came out and inspected my roof, and then wrote a report and included photos. My new roof was a mess!!!!! And some of my windows were wrapped wrong. He knew that I would have to go back to the original contractors to have them, hopefully, agree to redo the the work, so the $175 that he charged barely covered his time. I consider it a community service. After all, if you can't get a roof inspected, how else would you be able to confirm that it has problems. Anyway, Mark was also willing to come out and meet with the contractors to go over the report. The contractors were extremely rude to Mark. At one point they were yelling at him (they didn't agree with some issues on the report). Extremely unprofessional. Mark kept his cool and continued to try and engage the contractor. Based on his report and photos, the contractor COMPLETELY redid the new roof and rewrapped most of my windows. I also insisted that the contractor repay me the $350 that I paid to Exterior Medics, which they did. Though I would have just paid for it myself had they refused. What I learned is that my roof might not have had initial problems like leaking, but in time I would have had major problems. If you have just had a new roof put on, and have any concerns about the way the work was done, I would strongly encourage you to have it inspected. Exterior Medics is a great choice.
Description of Work: I hired Mark Watson of Exterior Medics, to inspect the roof, siding and window wraps of work that another company had recently completed. Mark provided a report which included digital photos and a written report. He also came back to my home to meet with the original contractor to go over his report and answer any questions they might have. He charged $175 for the initial report and I had the option to have him come out to meet with the contractor for an additional charge of $175.

The job had to be done in three phases (roof, soffit/fascia, and gutters). Although it took longer than we expected, it was not an unreasonable schedule. There were some issues with cleanup and not reseating the attic fan correctly otherwise I would have given them straight A's.
