Home remodeling and repair company, owned and operated by retired military member. I mostly do smaller projects in eastern Fairfax County and Alexandria. Subcontractors used for plumbing and electrical when required. Military discount provided on labor. Thank you for considering Evans Home Improvement LLC.
What a guy. Jon came the same afternoon and was in and out within 35 minutes. I should put him on my speed dial-he's the first person I call when I need help with this goofy house. He is congenial, very professional, and does excellent quality work. Thanks Jon, once again!
Description of Work: I had my kitchen redone by a contractor who came highly recommended from a colleague. The faucet was installed incorrectly and the hole drilled in the granite was not aligned with the hole in the sink. Jon devised a plate to reset the faucet so it would fit.

Mr. Evans worked quickly, capably, courteously, and for a very reasonable price. He checked with me in the days following the work to make sure there was no leakage in the new installation areas. It may be worth noting that my cat, who usually is wary of strangers, was not at all afraid of Mr. Evans, and in fact was right there to "help."

Jon came with the all of the materials for all of the odd jobs that we had identified as needing to be completed, and did his usual excellent job. Jon Evans has performed a variety of necessary home repairs for us for over 10 years. He has been careful, complete, and proficient on all the work that has included drywall repair, wood rot repair, toilet repair, work on cabinet doors, lighting, garage door issues, and finding a leak in our front door. In addition, he has supervised the work of others when we were unable to be present. When we had a minor emergency (garage door inoperable) he worked on a weekend to be sure that we were able to function. In summary, we have found Jon Evans competent, always reliable, and invariably pleasant. We recommend him strongly.

The work was done in a very much used rental home and a number of unexpected problems occurred along the way. Rather than just replace the ceiling in the master bath, Jon went up into the attic and and found the faulty pipe connection that caused the problem and repaired that line. Had that not been done, the ceiling would have to have been repaired in another year or two. The neighbor next door had obtained an estimate to repair the fence. That $800 estimate was twice that of what Jon charged. This is the second report that has been made to Angie's List on this very fine handyman. There may likely be a third after he finishes the ongoing work in our home.
Description of Work: A new sink, faucet and disposal were installed in the kitchen. The ceiling was replaced and a new fan was installed in the master bath. That bathroom was also painted. One main section of a new fence was installed in the back yard. There was also considerable incidental repair work along the way.

I've used Jon several times over the last few years. Jon is always on time, very polite, very reliable, and is the first person i call when I need repair help. Jon is reasonably priced and always provides a few repair options and associated prices from which I can choose. Thanks Jon...
Description of Work: Once again, I called Jon when something went wrong. This time is was a leak in the ceramic tile in the upstairs shower - it ended up leaking through the kitchen ceiling. Jon found the problem right away. Rather than pull out the entire shower, Jon was able to repair the wall, retile a small section in the shower, and blend the paint in the kitchen celing perfectly.

Jon has done projects in my home before and as always did an excellent job on this one. I had broken the light fixture in the entry way and ordered a new one online. Jon came soon after it was delivered and replaced it. He has a great attention to detail and made sure I was happy with the end result (I asked him do it a couple different ways and he was very patient and nice about it). My experience with Jon is always positive and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Great! I contacted Jon for the above mentioned items, and he came to my house the next day (even though he was busy with his own home improvement projects!). On the phone, Jon had advised me on what faucet and shower head to purchase, and even mentioned that one of the items was on sale at my local Lowe's store. He arrived promptly at the agreed upon time, and quickly replaced both the kitchen faucet and bathroom shower head, and then proceeded to repair my storm door. I have used Jon's services on many occasions over the past couple of years. I am always impressed by his honesty, professionalism, knowledge, punctuality, and willingness to tackle any home repair or improvement project. If you are looking for someone completely trustworthy, competent, and professional, you can't find a better person than Jon Evans!

I selected Mr. Joe Evans based on the fifteen ratings ?A? on Angie?s List and the fact that he resides in Springfield, VA. The jobs were (1) Reattach a stair banister (Handrail). One section had come out of the wall. (To reattach took 3 screws); and (2) Adjust a kitchen drawer. One bracket (Right side only) on the back of a kitchen drawer had cracked and my son had installed a new bracket that I had purchased. The drawer would close but was a litter out of kilter on the right side. It became obvious that Mr. Evans has problems using an electric drill. I would hear the drill slip and hear wood being hit before the screw would start going it. He damaged many screws before he finally got the screws in the wall. He left me with the three holes from where the handrail had come out. The work on the drawer was a disaster!!! Not only could not use the drill properly, he removed the LEFT bracket which was fine. (In its original position) He tried several times, damaging many screws and putting many holes in my wall. He made the drawer worst. I now cannot close the drawer. He installed the bracket upside down. I must admit, Mr. Evans had the fortitude not to charge me since he admitted he had left my drawer in a worst shape than it was when he arrived. (He was at my home for 2 hours.) Now I have to hire someone to come in to repair my wall and install both brackets properly.

Response from Evans Home Improvement LLC
The customer asked me to fix two items that were unsuccessfully repaired before. The customer is apparently unfamiliar with the sound that an impact driver makes, and mistook that for stripping screws. The customer's kitchen drawer rear mounting bracket was misaligned. The earlier repair by a relative used a replacement bracket she had ordered online. It appeared to be designed to fit the other side of the drawer, so when I arrived, it was functioning, but installed upside down. The earlier repair also left a buildup of wood filler where the original bracket pulled out of the cabinet back. I tried moving the bracket, but the uneven wood filler caused it to sit off-kilter and interfere with the drawer slide. The drawer was heavily loaded with silverware, which probably contributed to the failure of the original bracket. I offered to change the drawer slides to a heavy duty set. She declined, and asked me to stop working on it. She may have thought I was just stripping screws and would damage the bracket. Having built kitchen cabinets from scratch, I do feel that I had a fair idea what I was doing, but the wood filler buildup and bracket design just weren't cooperating so I could get the drawer aligned right. The stairway handrail bracket had been pulled out of the wall. During a previous unsuccessful repair, someone had drilled three large (approx 1/4") holes and tried to secure the handrail bracket with plastic anchors and a small toggle. Since handrail brackets must withstand 200 lbs of weight, I told the customer I would need to remount the bracket in solid wood, and that the earlier holes would show. She was fine with that until becoming upset with the work on the drawer slide. Since I couldn't fix her drawer slides to meet her expectations, I didn't charge her for that, or for successfully fixing the handrail. That seemed to be a reasonable solution to me. It's too bad the customer felt that a rock-bottom report was necessary for a business that tried to resolve her concerns. I hope potential customers will keep this in mind and consider that every other of more than 30 customers gave Evans Home Improvement positive reviews on Angie's List.

One of my valves on a water line in my home failed when I was doing some remodeling work in a bathroom. Having never replaced a valve, I called Jon. Even though it was late in the day - and he was busy with other work - Jon took the time to speak with me, viewed photos of the valve over text messages, and agreed to stop by my house that evening. He put aside personal plans to allow me to stick to a self-induced timeline, which was greatly appreciated. He also dealt with my questions as he replaced the valve so I could do the work myself the next time around. I was extremely impressed with Jon's professionalism, knowledge, and service-oriented mindset. I'll absolutely call him again and would trust him to complete work or provide any recommendations regarding home remodeling, improvement, or repair.

This was my third time working with Jon, and I had a very positive experience once again. I had called with an urgent replacement of a broken ceiling fan/light fixture (the cord pulled completely out and as the fixture was not connected to a light switch the fan was stuck on "high" unless I turned off electicity to that part of my house) which became a larger project as Jon identified and then fixed issues with the wiring that became apparent once he disconnected the fixture. He was diligent in identifying the issues and doing a complete and thorough repair.

A previous contractor installed a brand new shower door, and it leaked and he didn't know how to fix it. I had a plumber in my home for another problem, and he didn't know how to fix the shower door. So I checked Angies list, and selected this company because of their A rating. I called the company which is close to my home, and Mr. Evans came to look at the problem less than 2 hours later. He fixed the problem within 35 minutes, but couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't leak though it was clearly better than when he came so he didn't charge me anything. The shower door works perfectly, and hasn't leaked at all since Mr. Evans came. Mr. Evans was terrific! I highly recommend him to anyone, and will definitely call him for repairs in the future. He was responsive, honest, extremely capable, punctual and very professional. Honesty and quality really matter to him.

Our experience with Jon could not have been better. We have now moved to another state and wish that we could have brought him with us! We actually spent over a year upgrading our property. Despite having to hire others to do our granite and cabinets, Jon was still the one who came and did all the professional finishing touches that made our home a cut above the rest. (It sold in 7 days when we put it on the market this spring.) Jon was always responsive, timely, and professional. We trust both his work and his integrity as an individual. Some of our drywall repair was more complicated than anticipated, but Jon was determined to get it fixed for us. He absolutely did so -- and at a reasonable cost and in a reasonable amount of time while still completing projects for his other clients. We also counted on Jon's knowledge and expertise to tell us which things we should replace, fix, or upgrade to get our home on the market and which things weren't worth the cost. We have never worked with any other home repair professional who, given the opportunity to add more projects and make more money, actually showed us how we could do some of the repairs ourselves. My husband and I were also deeply appreciative of the fact that after doing long hours of hard labor for us and his many other clients, Jon uses his skills and talents to give back to the community and volunteers for charitable organizations in his "spare time." You can't go wrong hiring Jon for any job or project, no matter how large or small. He will give you the absolute best price and make sure the job gets done to the highest standards -- and he'll be a great guy to get to know in the process.
Description of Work: Drywall repair, interior painting, installation of new light fixtures, grout repair, caulking, electrical outlet checks and replacement, replacement of garbage disposal (installation and removal), curtain hanging, and advising on improvements and upgrades to improve saleability of our property.
Jon Evans' work is excellent in every respect. The changes that he made and ideas that he proposed have really made a difference in our home. He not only solves the problem at hand, he searches out the root cause and fixes that, too. Also, he is willing to share his professional knowledge, and, he is affordable. Of major importance, he is honest and trustworthy, a real professional. He is currently preparing the living room, foyer, stairwell and hall walls for painting which he will do next.
Description of Work: Replaced two folding doors in kitchen with regular doors.Removed kitchen fan and sealed wall opening to outside.Installed doors and sliding shelves under sink in master bedroom.Installed glass shower door in bath off master bedroom.Removed wood paneling from one wall in living room and in foyer.Removed wallpaper in foyer, stairwell and second floor hall.Sealed an opening at bottom of door in the garage.

Even though he was in the midst of moving his residence, he put his personal time aside, gave a estimate over the phone, arrived on the same day as the estimate, looked at the job but needed to leave to purchase the needed bolts, and finished the job. This was a wonderful experience. Jon is a calm, soft-spoken professional who does what he promises and more. No drama here. The quality of his work is excellent. He has renewed my faith in tradesmen which has been sorely tested recently, as it has been for so many of us. He is an honest man.
Description of Work: We had many small jobs that needed doing around the house for which we didn't feel qualified to tackle (electrical especially). I checked Angie's List and found Jon's name. We called him for an estimate and he responded the next day. He was able to do the work the following day, arriving with many of the materials he would need. He finished the following in a little less than 5 hours. 1. Repaired a door lock 2.Replaced 5 light switches 3.Fixed a toilet 4. Repaired a loose shower handle 5. Installed a new latch on an exterior shed 6. Repaired a recessed closet light fixture filled with loose insulation from the attic (what a mess) He made one trip to Home Depot to purchase needed materials and gave us an itemized list. He didn't charge for his lunch break and ate his lunch during the 30 minute trip to Home Depot. Jon was quick to explain jobs he was not able to do and had lots of good suggestions about handling problems. He agreed to come back at a later date to replace an exterior door.

Very well. We like that we can group a number of small diverse jobs together and he takes care of those issues in a timely, professional manner. He arrives on time and doesn't spend all day. Jon is dependable, friendly, and competent.
Description of Work: Jon cleaned the dryer vent (wow, don't forget this chore, we had over 15 years of lint! When you smell burning, bad.) and he attached screens on outside house vents. Jon performed handyman chores for us in 2011 and we shall continue to use him for our many household issues. I've used a number of handymen through the over 20 years I've lived here and I'd come to really dread having to deal with them as I can emphatically state that 90% of them didn't deliver what they promised in terms of professionalism, a quality job, fair price, and knowledge. I was heartily sick of listening to mediocre "professionals" who promised one thing and then didn't deliver. So, we really appreciate Jon's capability and dependability. Jon's done larger home care jobs for us, e.g., installing light fixtures, removing difficult, stripped hinges off doors, replaced ceiling vents in our drop ceiling, etc. He is on time for his jobs and he has even come over immediately when we had a small household emergency. We shall definitely use him for our future handyman requirements as he has proven to be reliable and fair in his pricing. Also appreciate that he understands we are picky about how things are done and how the final product looks and he listens to us.

As I indicated, Jon Evans responded to my request for help on the same day I called him, and fixed the steps over the next two days. Even as he fixed and replaced steps, he was able to preserve the carpeting on the steps so I was saved the expense of carpet replacement. He was very friendly and forthcoming with information. He answered questions clearly. I was delighted with the quality of his work, the speed of his response, and the fairness of his price.

When I initially called, John told me that he was busy and would call me back when he had some time in his schedule. True to his word, John called me and came to give an estimate. Instead, he was able to figure out what was wrong and fix it in the same visit.
Description of Work: John figured out where the leak was, went to Home Depot for a part, and replaced the hose on the dishwasher. He also repaired an electrical outlet and a handrail. I was very pleased with his work.
