Without a doubt, Deck & Fences gets 5 Stars. AJ and his team said they would be at the house at 8:30 a.m. By 8:40 they were offloading material and staging it in the backyard. It was very evident from the start that each member of his team knew their assignments and were well versed in what had to be done. AJ was on sight the entire day working side by side with the other three. His entire team are professional, polite, and willing to chat when the opportunity would allow. They did the entire 10’x12’ deck in one day and there were no issues with their craftmanship. The reason we selected Deck and Fences was from a referral and had seen their work before, and was impressed with the quality. AJ did not pressure us into a sale when he came out for an estimate. He asked what we envisioned and provide sound recommendations with multiple designs/color options. Bottom line: If you need a deck refurbished Deck & Fences should be the first contractor that you call. You will not be disappointed.

A remarkable person who really cares about his customers above all. Rare to meet a businessman with such kindness and high ethics. Deck looks great again. Recommended him for my son to use.

Two of the 4x4 support posts for my 40-year-old deck needed obvious repair. AJ returned my call for an estimate, stopped by the next evening, explained how he would handle the repair, and quoted a price lower than I expected. Since it was a small job, he said he would fit it into his schedule. Within two weeks, he returned to do the work on a Saturday morning. He dug down to the footer and replaced one post with a 6x6 and then added supports to two other posts - all for the original estimate. From start to finish, the work was done with extreme professionalism.

AJ and his team were by far the most pleasant, efficient, detail oriented contractors I've ever worked with. His price was fair and very competitive, and ultimately an incredible value for the end product. The removed the majority of our original deck that was in bad shape and used the existing bones underneath, with a few fixes to improve the stability and then they essentially gave us a brand new deck. It took 2.5 days from start to finish. In my experience, often the business owner is the one who comes in and provides the estimate, but is ultimately very hands-off with the actual work, but AJ was there from the estimate through to completion of the deck, working along side his team. He is clearly a master of his trade and isn't just good at what he does, but takes pride in the quality of the work and the beauty of the end product. I would highly recommend him and would certainly call him again. I literally hugged him on his way out the door for giving me such a beautiful deck! :)

Mr. Shadid was the most responsive person with his estimate. His price was better than other contractors. His sketch and estimate were hand written. He priced several different options for us (regular wood vs trex, small vs large), and then walked us through the implications of each decision. He did not require a down payment. He let us tackle removing the deck, which gave my two sons something to do for the summer, and saved us some money. He ran into problems on-site, but solved them without increasing our price. (He had to dig down six feet to get to stable soil for the deck foundations and meet the inspector's requests.) The deck was finished as promised, despite rains. He did the whole thing within budget. Mr. Shadid was one of the most impressive contractors I've ever worked with. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

Everything went well. AJ and his team finished in about 4 days. He even routered part of the old deck where he cut into the railing for the new, and also put in screws in the old to keep some boards from warping.

All went extremely well and he was the lowest bidder. Both deck and fence took less than a week. He also routered the part of the original deck's railing to match the addition and added some screws on the old deck to keep some boards from warping. We were very pleased with the work.

Let me start by saying that AJ is probably the most professional contractor that I have ever met. He is friendly, responsive, punctual, and stands by his work. AJ stopped by the house when it was convenient for my wife and I and gave us a very fair price quote for the work which would take three days. We signed the contract, which did not require any deposit, and AJ completed the work in three days as stated. We paid only after all services were rendered and we were completely happy with the work. I would without a doubt hire AJ again. I wish him great success in his business as he has a great business model and you want to see good people succeed.

AJ and team put in additional deck support for our unstable deck. The ledger was poorly attached to the house and pulling away. AJ put in support near the house, making the deck "free-standing." AJ was responsive, quick, thorough, and on-budget. Highly recommend for deck repairs.

I called AJ in late August based on his reviews and specialty in doing deck repair work. He scheduled to stop by and do a quote in less than a week. He came by and e-mailed me a quote. He was patient while I waited on a couple others (general contractors) to get quotes in. His was the best price. Also, I discussed some of the more expensive options (above ground footers) that one of the contracters was recommending. Although he would quote that if I really wanted to, he explained why he didn't think it was necessary. Once I decided to have AJ do the work, he told me he would do it within 2-3 weeks. I had hoped he would do it the next week and he told me (since it was a small job), he would work me in whenever he had a chance...which just happened to be the end of the next week. He had to do a little extra work due to the configuration of the below ground footers but he did not charge any extra even when I offered.

This is the second Deck I've had AJ and his guys build for me, the second time he was my lower cost bit (I likely would have used him anyway), and the second time I've been extremely pleased with his work. You would be hard-pressed to find a more thoughtful, professional, efficient and courteous contractor to construct a deck or a fence, and even harder pressed to find such a perfectionist as AJ, much less a deck contractor with an Engineering degree. This last time instead of doing the job "quick and dirty", as most would have, he pointed out a structural issue with the house due to a sloppy framing job by our original builder that led to rot and an integrity issue, and actually fixed the side of our house for the cost of materials and a nominal fee for the extra 1/2 day of work. His recommendations for deck materials have also been excellent in both cases. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

AJ did a very nice job. The quality and attention to details is amazing. Also it was a hassle free project. We came home on 3rd day after the work started and the deck was already ready for us to party. Definitely recommend this contractor for any deck work. You'll be happy with the choice.

They were the one that responded. It took quite a while for the others to respond and when they did respond, they basically said that the job was too small; in one case, the price was not competitive. The guy was very responsive and explained all the work that had to be done. He had good assessment and that was one of the reasons why I went with him.

It was unbelievable. He is great. Very professional and I can't give him enough accolades.

We hired Mr. Shadid several years ago to replace deck railing broken by a falling tree. He did such a good job that when we wanted a fence built, he was the first person we called. Mr. Shadid is promopt, freindly and professional. The fence is very nice as he and his assistant did a nice job. The fence took three days to build, including digging holes to put in fence posts set in concrete. The came on time, worked quietly and quickly, and the fence looks beautiful. They also cleaned up pretty well. The only thing about the cleanup that didn't earn an A was the assistant left his McDonald's bag behind once, as well as some cigarette butts. Compared to other contractors I'd hired in the past, that's nothing! The fence is very well built. In the five months since it was built I found exactly one (1) nail I had to put back in. It looks great and is very sturdy. Our only regret is that we waited to have it built. We should have had it done sooner! I can recommend Mr. Shadid without any hesitation. We've hired him twice and both times he did a great job at a good price. We would hire him again with complete confidence for any deck or fence work.

He arrived on time for both the estimate and actual work, which was done a couple of weeks later. His crew replaced the rotting boards and support with new ones. He got done much faster than expected, and I think he overestimated the amount of effort, but he fixed my fence gate on the way out for free! So we were happy.

AJ came to my house to review the issue. After several minutes of reviewing my deck and the basement door, he provided estimates that met the work we needed and made a few recommendations on changes he would make to extend the life of the deck. He also provided us with an estimate to replace the whole deck at our request. He was extremely polite and professional, was prompt in scheduling the work and completed the work in less than half a day as promised. I would hire him again without hesitation and recommend him to anyone needing deck work.

I was quite impressed with the work that AJ did. He dealt with the Montgomery County inspectors while he was building my deck. He worked quickly and cleaned up very well. He had one helper with him, and the process went very smoothly. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have a deck built!

They did great work, were professional, and timely.

Mr. Shadid and another worker arrived bright and early and accomplished the work quickly and perfectly. They removed and replaced a rotted fence post; installed a new concrete footing and replaced the bottom part of a deck post that had sunk, causing the stairway it was supporting to sag; and sawed away the bottom of some fence pickets that were pressing against an oak tree root. On the deck post issue, Mr. Shadid, a cheerful, positive person, looked for a cheaper, simpler solution that avoided the more complicated approach of replacing the entire post, which would have entailed some dismantling of the stairway. He simply cut the rotted bottom of the 4x4 post away, replaced it with a new length and braced them together. He found that there had been no concrete footing under the old post, so he filled the hole and put a concrete pad under the new braced post, a quicker simpler solution than pouring a footing in the hole.

Prompt, courteous, reasonable price, did great work. From first contact till the work was completed was less than 1 week. Would definitely use again.

Overall, we were extremely pleased. The company owner came out, provided the estimate, handled all the county builder requirements, and worked with his crew. He was an excellent listener and had excellent ideas for the design and options for materials. Throughout the project, I thought communication was very good, the workmanship was highly professional, and the price was fair. I found the owner to be honest, he delivered as specified in the contract, and I highly recommend his firm.

AJ arrived promptly to provide the estimate, and fully explained his reasons and his suggested repair process. Repair was scheduled for the following Saturday. AJ arrived early that morning and worked through extreme heat and humidity to complete the repairs to the fence and gate. His work was top notch, he and his crew were true professionals. The cleaned up the site after they were finished and left a truely remarkable fence and new gate in place. What a great experience!

Mr. Shadid arrived promptly to inspect the deck for our newly purchased 1997 home. He indicated to my husband that the deck work had not been finished, which explained the instability we were experiencing. He was able to answer all of my husband's questions about the work his team would complete and how my husband could best maintain the deck. He was polite and very knowledgeable. He gave us an itemized estimate.Mr. Shadid and his team arrived on time on the agreed upon date (a couple of days after the estimate) and added supports and other hardware to our deck. The work was completed in less than two hours and at the exact estimated cost.
