Boy, did I make a HUGE mistake hiring AirTech Systems, something I will never do again. I needed some waterproofing done in my basement and needed to have one side of the furnace dismantled so the waterproofing guys to get to the back corner of my basement. I called AirTech Systems (since the paperwork showed they installed the furnace/AC) and asked how much dismantling and then reinstalling the furnace parts would cost. The service manager said it would be “around $500”. Okay, fair enough. Then the waterproofing guys said the hot water heater also would need to be moved aside. I called AirTech Systems and asked if they could also move and then replace the water heater. They said yes, and I was grateful. I figured based on the initial quote the total would be less than $1000. After everything was reconnected, SURPRISE!! They sent me a bill for over $2000. When I called to ask about the gross discrepancy between the original $500 quote and the final bill, I got the worst kind of B.S. excuses (“well, you know, there are a lot of little parts to reconnect” and “we checked with our techs and they said they needed all this time”). Boy was I a sucker. I strongly recommend that folks needing HVAC work find an honest company to work with. I wouldn’t recommend AirTech Systems to change a light bulb.
Description of Work: Partially dismantled furnace and temporarily moved water heater to allow access to basement wall, then re-connected furnace and water heater.

They came out earlier in the week for a regular seasonal tune up although I knew that my system was having problems. I learned that my system, which is 20 years old, was losing coolant, had leaks in the coils, and needed to be replaced. Even though I have used Air-Tech Systems for many years, for such a big ticket item, I did research on other companies. Calling Air Tech Systems back, the company manager agreed to meet another estimate and agreed to come out the next day. I couldn't have been more pleased with the 4 men who worked to do the demolition and installation. They were pleasant, professional, they arrived earlier than the 7:30am that was agreed upon (but I found them waiting in the parking lot), they cleaned off the concrete slab that my old unit sat on, and cleaned everything up and hauled everything away. I am so happy that I stayed with them and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Evaluated and replaced my AC system (both the heat pump and the air handler) for my 3 level townhouse.

We used them for approximately five years without any significant issues. There were minor issues due to the inexperience of some of the techs performing the maintenance calls. One year a tech came out to check the cooling system and began removing the metal tape from around our humidifier, when I questioned why he needed to look at it, he didn't realize that is what it was! I asked him to leave and called to ask for another tech. Unfortunately it could not be rescheduled and the system was not checked again until the fall. Scheduling for maintenance was a common problem, you had to take their first available appointment or run the risk of missing your window for regular maintenance. However, their techs that handle problem calls respond very quickly. Most of their techs are very knowledgable. There is one guy who works with gas heaters that was outstanding. Our blower went out in the dead of winter and the system shutdown to prevent overloading, (or something like that.) Since it was freezing cold the guy came out as soon as possible had the problem diagnosed and ordered the part. Within two days the part was replaced, and we were warm again. But understand, the part was another $300 plus. But the service call was included. There are lot of good things about doing business with Air-Tech. One year, I can't remember if it was 2008 or 2009 when the Financial crisis was making life h****** everyone, Air-tech lowered their maintenance contract price to help out their customers. It did help, and showed that Air-Tech is looking to the long term and wants to keep their customers. Most of their techs are very good, but as with any company keeping good help can be an issue. Overall, I think maintenance contracts are like insurance policies. I'm gambling that I will need it and save money, some years that was the case, some years it was not. For now, I've decided not to renew because I just can't afford it, but Air-Tech is not more expensive nor any better or worse as far as I know. My experience was fair, but not outstanding because of the scheduling problem. Would I use them again, I said no, but maybe.
Description of Work: We had a one year contract for HVAC maintenance. They were to perform spring and fall preventative maintenance and the contract gave priority and discounts for service calls to do repairs.

When I read the Dec. 9, 2013 review of Air-Tech Systems, I thought that company would be perfect for what I was looking for. I was looking for someone to give me a price over the phone to replace a bad reversing valve in our heat pump. I had already paid for 2 diagnoses that gave the same result for the problem. The reviewer was complaining about exactly what I discovered: the HVAC companies only want to quote "book, lump-sum prices". I was hoping I would get a parts and labor quote over the phone without a hassle. I was very surprised to be told by John at Air-Tech that he would not replace the reversing valve in my heat pump because of its age. Period. Added to that, in my personal opinion, he proceeded to "lecture" me on how replacing parts on our 1994 heat pump, in essence, would be a stupid waste of money and I should buy a $5,000 new heat pump instead. When I began my conversation with him, I told him I did not want to replace the heat pump, but he would not consider doing any work except replacing the heat pump. I did not like his condescending manner and attitude. Was it because he was talking to a woman? I don't know, but the attitude was very condescending, in my opinion. It makes me wonder how genuine the Dec. 9, 2013 review was because my experience was completely different.

I was referred to Air-Tech by my brother after going back and forth with another (HVAC) company over a four day period about getting a firm quote before proceeding with the job. My unit failed on a Tuesday night, I cleaned and ran it on Wednesday to no avail, Thursday I contacted (HVAC) referred by my condo management and made an appt. for that evening, the Tech showed up on time and was very polite and professional, did a diagnostic and declared the compressor dead. From that point forward things went south, I received a written quote from him off of a franchise pricing guide at more then twice what the work would end up costing me. He told me to discuss it with his service mgr., the next morning I called her and was told they would get back to me later that day, 4 days later they called back and told me they had the part and wanted to schedule the work, what happen to my firm quote !? Friday morning through Tuesday morning, humid 90+ August weather, I cancelled the workorder and went with Air-Tech. Late Monday afternoon I called and talked to John Sigillito Jr, Sales Manager, a Godsend, he explained in detail what had probably happened internally to the compressor. He layed out what they would do to repair the problem, put me on hold for a couple of minutes, then came back with a firm phone quote. John told me they would find the part and try to get over to my condo within 48 hours, they did. The technician, Terrance, showed up Wednesday morning, clean/polite/professional and immediately got to it. He spent half the day installing/checking/testing all the items in the Provider section above and towards the end another Tech showed up to help him finish up. At five-o'clock I had cool dry air filling my condo. I will be getting the furnace service/maintenance done by Air-Tech in October. I will happily refer any and all family and friends to use this company.
Description of Work: The compressor in the A/C condenser unit had failed (compressor lock-up RA at 50) August 20th. Air-Tech replaced part under warranty (3 year old system installed by a different firm). Additional work involved: drain/recover damaged R22 refrigerant; install new inline filter drier, new run-start capacitor, new 25/5 capacitor, added hard-start capacitor and recharge with fresh R22. (capacitors installed to protect the new compressor) HVAC unit is in an exterior patio closet on a ground floor garden apartment condo.

Overall pleased with this company and like the company's integrity and customer service. Owner's son seems to really care about the business. Also feel he avoids trying to overcharge. Purchased a unit and had some issues which were diligently addressed. Only area of improvement Needed would be some techs are new and lack experience. Can overlook a company's weaknesses when I trust it.

Two techs were assigned to my service. First tech showed up on time and ready to work and was clean and professional. Second tech, Chris, showed up an hour late and came looking for a fight with someone. Walked in with no knock at the door or introduction and started arguing with other tech immediatly then proceed to start arguing with me. Chris escaleted his argument to swearing and threats. I asked him to leave and he refused. Had to escort him out of the building and called cops. Called AirTech to report and tell them to send another tech. Instead they told Chris to keep working and I discovered him on the roof. Another call to AirTech and Chris left and another tech showed up two hours later. Work was completed by 8:00pm after a 7:00am start. The price on the tickect was higher than what was quoted which required several phone calls the next day to square away. After all was done the unit does work well, heats and cools well but is very loud, no variable speed fan and is not eliglbe for tax credit as the unit is not a high efficiency unit. Both Items I asked about and was told prior to install complied but after install do not comply. After speaking with several AirTech employees, our building engineers and other tenants, Chris has a well documented reputation as a hot head and AirTech has a reputation of over promising and under performing while over charging.

Response from Air-Tech Systems Inc
Here are Air-Tech Systems' responses to the statements made by Member in the same order as he has made them. - Chris waas not late; he came from another job first, as he was scheduled to do. - There was no argument between the two technicians. They have worked together as a team for over 10 years. - Chris states that he knocked and was let into the apartment by the lady owner. The other technician, Roland Stewart, attest to this as well. The lady owner has been a customer of ours since 1997. - According to both Chris and Roland, Member appeared to be in a heightened state of frustration and he started the confrontation. - Our technician, Chris, admits to using a few common swear words, but any threats were only in answer to Member own threats. - Member did not "escort him out of the building", nor were the police involved in any way. After becoming aware of this negative report we called the Arlington County police and had them check that particular date; they have no record of receiving a call, much less responding to one, from that address in that time frame. - When we were first asked by Member to have Chris leave, our vice-president, Craig Gaylor, told Chris to leave the apartment. Chris left the apartment as directed, but he went to the roof where he would not normally be seen by anyone, to do the work confined to the roof because he wanted to complete the job in the time allotted. But Member saw that there were still two of our trucks there, and apparently went looking for Chris. This is a large condo with many other apartments that we service, and Member had no right to ask us to direct Chris to leave the roof. After his second call to us, we told Chris to leave the premises, and directed other workers to assist with getting job completed. - Because of the delay--caused by Member--we paid overtime to get the job done the same day, as we had promised. - As to "the price on the ticket" being "higher than what was quoted, Member makes it sound like a big amount of money. Here are the facts: We do a lot of business in that particular condo; we have dozens of ver satisfied customers there, which was probably the reason our customer called us in the first place. Because we have replaced many of the HVAC systems there, we have for years (with no price increases) advertised our written guarantee of prices. Everyone in apartments the same size as this one have paid $5,350 for their identical HVAC systems. We have mailed printed material to the residents with that price clearly stated. Member claims he was quoted (on the phone) $5,300 by our Service Manager, who has been with us over ten years, and has a price list on the wall right next to his phone. But we agreed to accept $5,300 to keep Member from upsetting our lady customer. - We have never told any resident there that their new installation would qualify for the tax crdit because none of the units in that partidular sized condo can qualify for it. Built-in size restrictions that go back far before the tax credit qualifications were established disqualifies them. - Member says the "unit is loud and while it heats and cools well, it has no variable speed fan." First, there is nothing the installer can do to make the systems run louder or quieter. We have installed dozens of identical units in the same building, and no one has ever complained about "noise." As to the variable speed fan, we may or may not have offered it to him. This is an expensive option, and we leave it to the reader to decide if someone who is quibbling over $50 would spend close to $1,000 more for an optional variable speed fan instead of the standard one-speed, which incidentally, is more trouble-free and much less expensive to replace later on. - Finally, in response to Member allegation that "after speaking with several air-Tech employees, our building engineers and other tenants, Chris has a well-documented reputation as a hot head." We have no knowledge whatsover of any Air-Tech employee discussing Chris's "temper" or "demeanor" with Member. Nor have we ever received any complaint from any other tenant or the building engineers regarding bad behavior from Chris. This statement is a total fabrication on Member's part, and totally without merit. For that matter, neither have we ever received an ill report on any of our employees from that building. - And if we have "a reputation for over promising and under performing while over charging", is that why we were called to do this job? No person or company is perfect, but our reputation for good service, reasonable prices, and satisfied customers at this particular condo has grown over the last fifteen years and will survive this totally unwarranted attack. Even Member said "Yes" to Angie's report question "Hire Again?"

The installation of the furnace went fine. A month or so after the installation, we realized there was a leak at the inline oil filter that they had changed. We called them to repair the leak. They came promptly but, charged us $220 to fix it claiming that it wasn't their fault. Several gallons of fuel had leaked which caused thousands of dollars worth of damage in our basement. Air-Tech Systems refused to admit any responsibility. We have called several times and requested at least a refund of our $220. They will not refund the money.

They responded promptly & honestly to a question I had, & solved a problem that a few other companies could not. Even though the project was much more complicated than they thought they still charged the original quoted price. This company was very clean, they never left a mess for me to clean up & left it cleaner than they found it.
