I had hired this company before to do several exterior painting jobs and was happy with those. In addition to painting, the company also does bathroom and house remodeling and repair work, When work began, I was told it shouldn't take more than a week and a half -- it ended up taking over a month. Initially, things went well -- the old tub, sink, toilet and flooring were removed and a new tub, tile tub surround and tile floor were installed. On checking the progress of the work, however, I discovered that they were simply peeling off the wallpaper and putting a new coat of paint over the old drywall, instead of tearing out the old drywall and installing new drywall, as I had requested (the old drywall had some mold issues from previous water damage). On calling this to their attention, they removed the old drywall and installed new drywall. Installing the new faucet fixture in the tub also proved to cause some problems -- I was told the faucet set I had ordered was not going work (the escutcheons were too long). He said he would run out and buy some shorter escutcheons, but when these were installed, it was obvious that the holes on these new escutcheons were at least 1/4" too wide. He had attempted to fix this by filling in the sides of the holes with clear silicone. Also the chrome color and style of the new escutcheons didn't match my new nickel fixtures. When I said this was unacceptable, he admitted that someone on his crew had thrown away my original escutcheons, so I had to order new ones from the faucet company (he agreed to pay). He finally brought in a more knowledgable subcontractor, who was able to install the faucet (w/ the original, replacement escutcheons) correctly. I also discovered that a faucet had been removed from a sink that was sitting in the living room and meant for another bathroom in the house. On searching, I found this faucet in a box of trash. The final inspection was also a disaster. The tile floor had paint spots on it. The grout and tiles were covered with drywall compound and dirt. He said he couldn't do a thorough clean-up because the grout hadn't finished setting, and he told me to try and clean it up myself in a week. I did get him to agree (in writing) that if the grout doesn't clean up in a week, he would regrout the floor for free. This will leave me scrubbing up his mess in a week -- something I feel should have been his job, but at this point, I don't want him to set foot in that bathroom again for fear of what will happen next. To top it off, when he presented us with the final total, it was $1500 more than the original quote. When I pointed this out, he said that nobody can do a bathroom for the amount I was saying I was quoted. I insisted he go back and pull his original paperwork, and when he did, he admitted that the original quote was correct -- he had made a mistake and was confusing my paperwork with an estimate from another homeowner's project. In short, this experience was a total disaster.
Description of Work: The job was for a complete bathroom remodel and involved tearing out the old drywall, tub, tub tile, floor tile, sink and toilet. All new drywall was installed and a new tub, toilet, sink, tile floor, tile tub surround and two towel bars were installed. The door was moved so that it swung out of the room instead of into the room.
