It's difficult to write a less than positive review for R&R because Roy and his crew are all very nice. The guys who were here doing the work, who I feel I spent A LOT of time with over the several months of construction, were always extremely friendly and respectful of me and my home. When they were here, they worked hard and took the time to explain what they were doing when I asked. Roy always answered my phone calls, even when he must have known I was calling to ask again about when I could expect more progress. That being said, the process of our kitchen remodel with R&R was awful. It dragged on for months and, other than the day we signed the contract, I always felt like my job was the last priority. Now that our kitchen has been complete for a few months, we're already seeing cracks in the partial wall they constructed and in the back splash grout/sealant. There are dozens of little details I see every day that I wish could have been done with better quality. I'm holding my breath for how long the rest of the kitchen is going to last. We signed the contract in February, work did not begin until May and the kitchen was not complete until late September. That's an eight month process with more than four months of "active" construction for a straight-forward kitchen remodel. Work was completely sporadic. There was a painful lack of communication about our job timeline and progress. I felt like I was frequently emailing and calling Roy to find out when I could expect his crew again. Towards the end of our remodel, I called Roy to ask about finally finishing our kitchen and he thought it was already done; some miscommunication from his crew had taken our kitchen off their work list while we sat around waiting for them to show up and finish already. After signing the contract with Roy, he appeared on our job site all of two times for the rest of the job. R&R's cabinet supplier was nothing short of a nightmare to work with and I felt like we were left to do it all alone. While the actions of the supplier were out of R&R's control, it was clear that there was little to no communication and no oversight from R&R. The measurements the supplier took for our cabinets were completely wrong and we were told we could have certain features and cabinets that were either not available or not in our budget. After more than six weeks of a delay on our cabinets arriving, we received the wrong cabinets and had to start over with the order. I had to be the one to keep calling and emailing the cabinet supplier for updates and answers which were almost impossible to get. On a personal note, I was also just disappointed that my family had to experience such a disruptive home during this process when it could have been avoided. I was five months pregnant when we signed the contract with R&R, stupidly believing our kitchen would be done long before we brought our baby home. While the cabinets were ordered and then re-ordered, we spent more than a month with no kitchen, washing dishes in the bathroom sink. Guys from R&R finally came to install a used sink in our kitchen and put up a particle board "counter" so we could try to prepare food. R&R had a lock box with keys to our house so they could work even when we weren't home--we got that desperate. While we spent more than three weeks in the hospital with our sick baby, I called and pleaded with Roy to make our project a priority. It took another two months to complete the kitchen from that point. We had to care for a newborn among the nail guns and paint fumes and I will never understand how Roy thought that was acceptable.
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen including removing partial wall, constructing kitchen island, replacing cabinets, counter tops and fixtures. We also signed a contract for R&R to replace our front door and side lights but after months of delays from them, I finally gave up and cancelled that project.

Description of Work: He came and gave us a quote. Very personable and friendly. His quote ended up being the best and we felt comfortable with him. We gave him our $1,000 deposit and signed the paperwork. He was supposed to begin our deck in two months. Two months came and he would not return phone calls, then three months, finally after getting nasty threatening legal action, he promptly returned our deposit. Do not recommend.

Response from R & R Home Improvements of Virginia Inc
Hello, I wanted to respond to this review because I feel it is unjustified. Yes we did contract with you after several months of you deciding and we honored our proposal that was several months old. We signed a contract, I did receive your deposit, we proceeded with getting the plans drawn then we turned in your permit. Once the permit was turned in it was out of our hands and we were at the mercy of the county building department. I always returned emails and phone calls to your husband. Once you and your husband decided that it was taking too long to get this deck going and you requested your refund, it was processed and sent out. You received your full deposit regardless of the cost of the plans and the cost of the permit. I understand your disappointment but this happened last early last year and you are now bashing myself and my company with this review. I apologized because of the building department delays several times but like I said it was out of our control. We parted company with my company on the loosing end financially. Like you said in your review, we were the best price and you felt really comfortable with me and my company. I do not think this review was justified. I hope you had your project built to your satisfaction. Sincerely R & R Home Improvements

Response from R & R Home Improvements of Virginia Inc
Mr. [removed member name], I was looking over all our review and noticed that your response was a little negative. I am the owner of R & R Home Improvements of Virginia and I do not remember doing a project for you? Could you please tell me what type of project we did for you and please explain to me what was not done correctly? If this was a Heating and Air project and it did not go to plan then please accept my apologizes. We created a Heating and Air company and the person who was in charge of this division did a poor job of keeping up with customer service. We no longer have this division. If there is anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to contact us. Sincerely, Roy Dodson Owner R & R Home Improvements of Virginia Inc.

Provided service for a basement finishing project of approximately 1100 square feet. Bid process: Professional, patient and courteous during whole process. No pressure and worked with us to get the design right. Flexible in making adjustments. Up front on pricing and delivered product. Communication: Readily available to answer questions and accommodate changes. Offered plenty of options for painting, carpeting, and bathroom. Work: Clean and efficient. Work was of good quality. Made repairs and touch up as they went along. Agreed to build a craft table which was very nice. This was not in the original contract and added a very nice touch to the basement. Workmanship was of high quality. Will give final update after final touchups are made in the spring.

Although the start was delayed due to weather and another project, when it was started, the work was done quickly and neatly. There was minimal disturbance of the lawn and the workmanship was good. The handyman I used to stain the deck complemented the soundness of the construction compared to others he has seen.

Steve of Rand R Heating and Cooling is the most professional HVAC provider we have found. He helped us extend the life of our old outdated system until we were able to install a new unit. Steve gave us all of the information on several different systems and price ranges and helped us make the best decision for our home size with no pressure to go with the "most expensive unit." We have been working with Steve (now through Rand R - previously of Miller Heating and Cooling) after trying several other local HVAC companies and he is by far the most professional, knowledgeable, and punctual we have worked with. I highly recommend Rand R and will use them for all our future HVAC needs.

The deck looks good overall. Roy the owner came out to give me the estimate. Roy is very professional and is overall a nice guy. I recieved the estimate that was itemized with several different options. The crew was on time and worked the full day everyday they where on the job. The crew leader realized one work had started that it would be easier to take down most of the floor joist and replace some of the bad ones. I was not charged an additional fee for this extra work. The only issue that I have with the work that was done is the color of the deck boards. I thought I was getting a gray deck board but I recieved a light brown. The deck board color was not in the contract and in the end it looks good. The dryspace system under the deck has had some issues that has required a couple of return visits. The dryspace is good overall. I think the gutter system could be better supported but this concern will be addressed once I screen in the lower part of the deck. Roy and his crew are very professional. R and R provides excellent quality and attention to detail.
Description of Work: Resurface an old pressure treated deck with composite decking and PVC railing. Also added dry spaceon the underside of the deck.
