BUYER BEWARE. At first things went well. We had filed with our insurance company because of damage from the storms last spring. After agreeing to a contract with a young co-owner of the company who we came to respect and trust, the roof on our house and garage were replaced. They also put a roof vent on and needed to add vented soffits. Since some of the gutters were bad, we also had them replace them to avoid damage to the new roof, but learned that the areas where they were attached were rotted in some places. The partner who was supposed to be onsite to supervise sat in his car smoking the when he was here with an unsurprising result. Some, but not all of the soffits were replaced with vented ones. Debris, including nails that were to have been cleaned up were not, resulting in a foot injury for my dog. Over the coming months different people showed up at different times. One, apparently another partner, suggested wrapping the front wood on the garage near the roof. I said that would probably be a good idea, then the young man with whom we had agreed to the initial contract emailed me to say how much it would cost and I said that I did not want to do that. UNFORTUNATELY, I agreed to a contract that had a price per foot for fascia and fascia wrap, and mistakenly assumed based on the heads up on the garage that if the price was significant, I would be so informed before replacement started. BIG MISTAKE. I was sent a bill for $1825 for gutters and fascia and $2117.50 for the "services" of the fascia and fascia wrap. I also didn't stay outside for all the work and stop them, as I wasn't feeling well. I NEVER would have agreed to that, especially since almost all of the replaced fascia was on the garage. The young man had to come out himself to get the soffits done correctly and get all the nails picked up. All I can add is cavaet emptor, latin for let the buyer beware!

We are sorry that you were not 100% satisfied. I am the young man (Michael) who is a partner who also initially did the estimate. I explained to you ahead of time in an email that all of the fascia boards were rotten and would have to be replaced in order for the system to be correct and that I would not be willing to do patch work because it would not be correct. All of the soffits on the bottom eaves of the roof were replaced with vented soffit as agreed upon which is required for the ridge vent to work effectively. We did everything that we stated we would do as specified in the contract. We met several times to make sure you understood the required work and process. Also, I personally came back out and took care of some the work that I didn’t think met our Mills Roofing standard for quality of work. All in all the process took several months because we had to keep changing things as you changed your mind multiple times about what you wanted. Our 10 year workmanship warranty stands, so if there are ever any issues with the work we will be sure to take care of it for you! Sincerely, Michael Woodward Partner Mills Roofing.

It did not go well. The first words out of the guys mouth, before going up to review the damage were "Did you call your insurance company?" We hadn't called as we were waiting to see how much a repair might cost, as our deductible was $1000. He came down and told us that the repair would be a certain price, but if we called our insurance he was sure they would cover it. We explained to him that we were going to get other estimates. He then said he could at least put a tarp over the damaged area. We said ok....unfortunately to the tune of $200. Then he also told us that for him to come out to look was $250. We told him that the website said "free" estimates. He responded that he had to go up and look at the roof, so that was why had to charge us $250!! We had a second opinion come for an estimate, and we got a much lower price, even less than our insurance deductible! They also told us that they would have to repair a larger area of shingles because of the bad tarp installation by Mills Roofing. The large tarp was nailed into the roof, and went far beyond the damaged area. It is our opinion that Mills Roofing engaged in price gouging as our area had just suffered from a huge, powerful windstorm. They were aware that many people were affected and were trying to take advantage of the situation. We will never do service with this company again!

Mrs. [Member Name Removed], we are sorry that you were not happy with your experience. We always provide free estimates, not free roof inspections there is a difference. Every roofing contractor in the area charges inspection fees for storm damages. We had even heard of some companies charging $600 just to come out. We were very fair on our pricing. Also, when installing a tarp you have to install it larger than the area where the shingles are missing in order to ensure water not getting in the area where the shingles are missing. We are also sorry that we are not able to control what the insurances decide once their adjuster comes out.

Two weeks ago the leak returned in the exact same place. I contacted the company by email and asked if they could come out and look at it. i figured it might be something simple like caulking. After 2 days without a response i called them. The woman who returned my message said she saw my email, but didn't contact me back because "you know that is not covered by warranty, right". I had never mentioned anything about a warranty, I simply asked them if they could take a look. After assuring me that this would absolutely not be covered, she said she would discuss it with the shop manager and get back to me. She never did. All I wanted was for them to come out and take a look at the area that is leaking, that they repaired 2 years ago, and give me their opinion on the issue. I would never use them again. First off is a completely unreasonable response to a customer's request for service and the other is incredibly poor responsiveness.

Sir, I apologize for the miscommunication on this situation. The only reason we wanted to be clear on the warranty is because we didn't want you to have an unreasonable expectation when we came out to look over everything. Kenny Mills, one of the owners, was personally planning to come out to take a look at the roof to see if anything could be done for that section. When we did the repair two years ago we did mention that the roof was at the end of life expectancy and would need to be replaced in the near future. Please let us know if anything else is needed.

Excellent. When they came out to give me my estimate, the representative spent time with me and went over everything. I was notified of delivery date/time for the shingles and given a start date. The crew showed up early and worked through the day taking only a short lunch break. They needed to come back the next morning to do finish some work and do another clean up. The gentlemen who worked at my house were polite and considerate.

We liked both companies who saw us, but we decided on Mills because it was a family owned local roofing firm. They arrived exactly as they said they would at 7 am and worked in 90% heat with only two breaks until 9 pm. The next morning they were here for probably no longer than an hour to make sure the grounds were clean. They were incredibly meticulous, even sweeping off the small pieces of dirt from the deck furniture. Their price was in line with others we know who had replacement roofs installed. I can easily recommend them as an A+ Angie's List provider.
Description of Work: We had our hail damaged roof replaced after contacting two additional companies form Angie's List. One company never called back, the other did. Mike was our contact person who, although looked very young, was completely professional, knowledgeable, and very courteous. Whenever I had a question, he quickly got back to me via telephone call or e-mail.

Phone contact was professional and courteous. The crew showed up and knocked 95% of the work out in one long day. However, the work wasn't as good as it should have been. After the roof was installed I inspected it and found at least 12 shingles that needed to be fixed (3 looked like someone had sliced through the top layer, 9 had holes from ladder legs). I requested that these be replaced. I can't say for sure if they would have replaced them on their own if I had not mentioned it or not. The leaf guards that cover the gutters were pretty beat up and still don't look right, they leave the edge of the shingles looking uneven due to the fact they are no longer flat like they were.

Sir, we apologize that you are less than satisfied, as it is our goal to leave every customer 100% satisfied. That being said we did replace the messed up shingles that day after we got more shingles to the job site. Also, in the summer the shingles get damaged from walking on them when it gets hot outside that is why the majority of those 5 shingles were damaged; which we did replace immediately

Went well. Starting at the estimate, they were professional and gave a detailed list of the products used. They arrived on time and completed the roofing job in one day. The clean up was good, only left a few small pieces of plastic from the shingle packages, but not enough to complain about. After a bad hail storm on 2/25/17 in the Stafford area, and lots of research on roofers and shingle comparisons, we decide to go with Mills Roofing, out of Thornburg, Va. We wanted a completely new roof with new 6” gutters and downspouts. We went with them because they have been a family owned company for decades, offered a very competitive price and Michael Woodward, a family member and sale rep, was very knowledgeable, personable and friendly. Additionally, Michael pointed out ways in which other roofers might skimp on materials and workmanship; industry inside information we would have never known without having talked to him. They always have a family member on the job site, and in our case it was Kenny Mills, a company owner and crew supervisor. He always answered my questions. I saw one of the workers installing what appeared to be a shingle sideways along the edges of the roof line and asked Kenny what he was doing. He said it’s their policy to install starter shingles not only above the gutters where the shingles start, but also around all the edges of the entire roof line of the house. It offers more adhesion for the end shingles to stay on during high winds. He said some companies do this while others don’t. We went with the Atlas Storm Master Shake Shingle with Scotchgard Protector (providing Lifetime protection against black streaks caused by algae, not just the 10 or 15 years as with other brand shingles). It’s a class 4, high wind/high impact shingle made with a rubberized polymer backing. It was a little more costly than the Atlas Pinnacle Pristine (a great shingle) but having just gone through a hail storm, we felt it would be well worth the additional cost. Kenny and his crew were hard workers and we were very satisfied with the quality of their work and professionalism. Since Mills stand’s by their work, you don’t pay them anything until the job is completed. If you are looking for honest opinions about your roof with quality workmanship and materials, give them a call.

Replaced a rather complicated hip roof on the house and replaced the roof on our detached oversized garage. They also replaced 5 inch gutters to 6 inch gutters and downspouts.
