My wife and I would rate the overall experience as a "C" (average). The contractor's attitude was usually on the negative side. He complained to us a lot usually about problems he experienced with previous or existing clients. We would also rate the overall craftsmanship as average. For example, when the contractor installed the tile backsplash, the next day some of the tiles could be pulled off by hand as we were applying a sealer to them. I discussed this with the contractor and his excuse was that he "got in a hurry" and did not apply enough adhesive to the tile. He apologized and fixed the problem. Also some of the trim cuts were slightly off. We would not use this contractor again.
Description of Work: Had the kitchen remodeled.

Jim Beals, owner of APMCO Home Improvements, is an honest, quality craftsman that will definitely work with you to ensure what he delivers is what you want. He is diligent in making sure he understands what you want and will deliver on his promises. Jim shows up when he says he will and completes work in a quality, timely manner. He leaves the area clean throughout the project and is mindful of family pets and the homeowner’s schedule. Jim always returns your phone call in a timely manner and will follow-up on questions quickly. His pricing was honest, not the lowest, but he covered everything up front. You get what you pay for and he is worth every penny he charges, believe me. We were happy with the comprehensive bid and the fact that he was fair on his costing of the job. My husband and I will use no one else but Jim. He recently finished our basement and we were so happy with the work that we hired him again to build and install custom sliding barn-style doors for two interior openings. The doors are made of 150 year old reclaimed wood from an old barn in Maryland. Jim built the doors to my custom design and stained them a beautiful walnut color. He hung the doors and hardware and the project was finished above my expectations. Jim literally took what was in my head and produced it for us. Our next project is going to be a wall to wall bookcase with hidden door. We are saving money for the project right now and have no question that Jim will be the craftsman we hire. The work he completed on our basement is incredible he had excellent suggestions when we reached difficult design decisions on how to build around oddly run HV/AC ducts. Something also to consider is that while Jim is absolutely able to construct a basic basement finishing project, he is extremely helpful and willing to work with a homeowner on design ideas that are outside the box. He has an eye for symmetry and knows what will work and will not. He openly communicates with the homeowner each step of the way. Anyone interested in hiring Jim Beals will not regret it.
