About us

My grandfather, Salem M. Eways, came to the United States as a Stone Mason. In the late 1920s, he began selling fine textiles door-to-door in New York City, until he and his brother found an opportunity to earn money cleaning and repairing rugs. With dedication and hard work, they built the business and eventually grew into 4 stores in the Pennsylvania region. Salem then moved to Charlottesville in the early 1960s and opened a store named Salem M. Eways Oriental Rugs, located in University shopping center on Old Ivy Rd. After the passing of my grandfather, my father, Frank S. Eways, a state trooper in Pennsylvania at the time, left his job and moved his family to Charlottesville to take care of the family business. He eventually moved the store to Emmet St. across from Bodo’s Bagels, where he then grew the business to one of the largest sellers of oriental rugs in the United States in the mid-1970s. Eventually all of the Eways brothers joined together to become one of the largest and most respected flooring companies in the region. For over 85 years, and three generations, the Eways family has been providing the finest area rugs, rug care and maintenance. We have reached the world to bring you the best quality rugs available. Description of Work: The Eways' team came to my home, picked up several rug and took them to their shop for cleaning and moth proofing. During the cleaning process i received a call from Frank who told me that one of my rugs needed some fringe work and reweaving. The extra cost was very reasonable and worth doing due to the age and condition of the rug. The rugs were return when promised and were as good as new. |I have used Frank S Eways for many years. I have purchased several rugs from him, had my rugs cleaned and repaired as needed. I have always been super happy with the service, attitude, and quality of work provided. I have recommended Frank S. Eways to many of my associated who have been equally pleased with his operation.

Description of Work: I had a large rug cleaned and repaired. The people I dealt with were friendly and seemed knowledgeable. They did a good job and had the rug ready before the date promised. They have a lovely selection of rugs in their showroom and I may purchase one there in the future.

Easy, peasy!
Description of Work: Cleaned a large Oriental rug of cat urine. Did a fine job, then made good suggestions for our follow-up (No, not "get rid of the cat!") Rug looks (and smells) like new. Also cleaned two smaller rugs. Repaired one and cut a non-slip pad for another.
