+ 8 moreWe've used C'ville remodel for 3 different projects on our 1890's home. They are really fun to work with, had excellent ideas to meet our needs, and were never upset when I changed my mind on something! They were mindful when I wanted to keep the character of our home as the most important part of the project and when I needed to keep the budget as the priority. They took care of all permits and were great working with the city inspectors with some tricky issues. The work is top notch. If they don't do it themselves (only the gas and insulation for my projects) they bring in the best and oversee everything. I have two small children and always felt comfortable with them in my home. 2 of the projects came in under budget and 1 on budget but we added a significant amount of work. All of the projects took about 25-50% longer than they initially quoted us, but I expected this as our house is very old and work is always more complicated than you originally think. My advice is just add at least 30% on to whatever time any contractor says and you'll be good. They were also willing to let us do a lot of the work ourselves and were available to give expertise and lend tools when needed. All around we love Joel and Willie and our kids ask frequently when they'll be back.
Description of Work: Deck addition and stairs. Reconfiguring walls, doors, closets for upstairs bedrooms- included flooring, framing, drywall, electrical. Helping finish a completely unfinished basement - included working with engineer to put in steel beams and restructuring the house, framing, insulation, waterproofing, electrical, and plumbing for bathroom, laundry, and tankless water heater.

+ 0 moreJoel and his team are true professionals. They provided quality craftsmanship and finished on budget. Joel sub-contracted the clearing and leveling of the patio area as well as all the concrete work. The sub-contractors were of the same high quality and provided a great product. During the deck construction, Joel fixed several issues and damage that the previous deck had caused because of improper construction which allowed water intrusion into the sub-floor of the four season's room. He also added a safety gate at the top of the landing since we have small kids. His team is small, only three people including himself, so complete construction took about a month, but we were able to use it safely about two weeks into construction. We will definitely use C-ville Remodel for future projects!
Description of Work: C-ville Remodel built a 300 sqft pressure treated deck with an under deck drainage system and a 450 sqft stained concrete patio.

+ -1 moreJoel Watkins and his dad Willie did a wonderful job on my screened porch and deck, beyond my expectations in quality. Although they were delayed by horrible weather and were sometimes out there in the mud and slush, they were always cheerful and friendly. It felt like I had hired the TV guys from and quot;This Old house.and quot; They did the design, the estimate, and all the work themselves. No sub-contracting. This father-son team represents the best in professionalism, honesty, and quality work. I was sorry to see the job finished because they were such a delight to have around. They even found a serious, hidden plumbing leak which they were able to fix for me. These guys are the best, and I recommend them whole-heartedly.

+ -1 moreThe project far exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't have been happier to work with Joel and Willy. They're professional, courteous, and they deliver what they promise. We approached them with a rough concept of what we wanted our unfinished basement to become, and they helped shape those ideas into a space we're thrilled with! We requested several estimates, and they came in lowest - then they worked with us to save even more throughout construction, pointing out where we could use lower priced (but equal quality) materials. They also suggested design tweaks along the way to maximize our use of the space, all of which we ended up loving. Conversely, they were always open to our suggestions - even when we weren't entirely sure what we wanted! The project took around 6 weeks, and during that time Joel and Willy became like family - they're great people who we recommend to anyone. We're planning to use them again on other projects as well, such as finishing off a bonus room.
Description of Work: Finished our unfinished basement - created a rec room, bedroom with full bath (including adding all plumbing), exercise room, and storage room. Prepped gas lines for generator and kitchen stove and also prepped power/HVAC requirements for eventual finishing of bonus room.

+ 6 moreJoel and Willy are gems waiting to be discovered. We hired them for our basement renovation project after months of getting quotes from different contractors. It was a rather tricky project in that there was no plumbing in the basement and we wanted to install a bathroom, wet-bar etc. We were quite impressed by how much time Joel spent figuring out how the project should be carried out in the most efficient and economic way, even though there was no guarantee we would actually go with them. It was as if he was coming up with a plan for his own home. The quote also seemed quite reasonable compared to what we got from others. They finished the project bang on time, and turned a useless space into a piece of beauty! We were particularly impressed by Joel’s dad, Willy. He is highly experienced and is the first builder that we could really feel comfortable knows what he is doing. His attention to details is second to none and as he once said, he builds other people’s homes as if he is building his own. In short, Joel and Willy did a fantastic job, and were honest, punctual and professional. Our only regret is that we didn’t get to know them sooner for our earlier projects! Thank you guys and may God richly bless you. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Created a bathroom and new laundry area in the place of an open room in the basement. Dig out concrete and created rough in plumbing. Converted the laundry into a wet bar with cabinets, counter top, a sink and an island. Installed cabinets in the laundry, installed laminate flooring / molding / dry wall / window / three doors / ceiling fans / light fixtures. Replaced sliding door and installed tiles.

+ 4 moreContractor performed the work on time once he started. The problems cam elater. The drywall started to crack along the seams where it had been mudded. I called the contractor to come back and fix the work. One of his men showed up and performed SOME of the fixes but never completd the work. The work he did and quot;fixand quot; was not done to my satisfaction and is still cracked.
Description of Work: Remodeled a screen room into a a closed in sun room. Contractor insulated floor, built large window enclosures, installed windows. Installed drywall and painted the room. Electrical outlets and wiring were installed by contractor including light fixtures.

Description of Work: Repaired an old barn/garage on my property that the insurance company refused to cover. Removed all rotten wood, replace with wood of similar size and appearance. Discovered that one wall was not supported and built a new supporting wall. Sanded and scraped old roof and painted with long-lasting coating. Found great paint that matches the old look of the barn. I couldn't have been happier with their work, their responsiveness to my requests, and their communications. A great father & son team.

They are a team who likes each other and has worked together for a long time. I am a stay at home mom and at the time of service had a toddler and was pregnant. I felt very comfortable with their daily presence. Small details like observing quiet during nap-time and picking up at the end of each day were huge and wonderful testimonies to the care that clearly goes into their work. Description of Work: We needed to expand our living space to make more room for children. The current office was in a bedroom and we decided that the space in our basement was suitable to move equipment downstairs. Our basement was not finished at all. We contacted several contractors all of which gave us very different ideas of how and what exactly we needed to do to ensure that our basement would be a comfortable space that would not flood, etc. Besides the office equipment we also wanted a full bathroom installed so a guest would be welcome in our home. After we decided to use C'Ville Remodel Jim Stewart was extremely responsive and walked us through several steps before his team actually began work. Before C'Ville Remodel could begin we had some radon mitigation and foundation reinforcement construction. Each phase went off without a hitch under the general supervision of Jim Stewart. Once C'Ville Remodel was cleared to begin work they began and finished a multiphase month long project which included the following: framing and installing drywall, installing a drop ceiling with vents and recessed lighting, installing all plumbing and electricity for a full bathroom, securing elements such as a vanity, toilet and tub for the bathroom, removing and installing windows and doors, securing and adhering to City of Charlottesville inspections, and adding special touches as we (the home owners) requested different updates (i.e. special lock to be installed on the outside door, electrical wiring to help illuminate the laundry area - which had nothing to do with the original work, and installing a special glass/screened door).

Price was very competitive and did not change over the course of the project without Jim discussing with us first. Very helpful when trying to identify cost savings solutions with regards to materials. During the course of the project a few issues came up that needed attention, including potential water damage due to poor drainage outside of the house, which Jim was quick to identify and resolve for a very reasonable price. At the end of the project, Jim was committed to completing the punch list no matter how long and detailed. He is truly committed to customer satisfaction. We were very pleased with the results and there were very few issues that popped up during this very large project. We would definately use Cville Remodeling again.
Description of Work: Unfinished basement, complete build out starting with beams and including1 full bath, 1 bedroom, two full closets, fixtures, window/sliding door installation, painting, and wet bar (including granite counter top design and installation).

+ -1 moreC'ville remodeled our screened in room into a glassed in sunroom. They turned an unusable room into a year round room. The room was hexagonal in shape and presented all sorts of problems to fit the glass windows and drywall so as to look as a finished extrodinary room. They did it and it turned out great. They installed radiant heating and when the heaters proved to be inadequate to comfortably heat the space in cold weather they stuck with us and provided additional capability to make it work. Jim and his team are execellent craftsmen. They showed up everyday until the job was completed. I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Cville Remodeling removed the exisiting screening and built the correct framing to install floor to ceiling glass. The installed three thermal quality doors and insulated and closed off the decking flooring. They also installed radiant heating, three floor outlets a light fixture and a ceiling fan with light fixture. This required running a new electrical line from our main panels. They drywalled the room and painted it.

+ -1 moreC'Ville Remodeling was carefully considered for an addition to our home. We were planning on expanding our house by adding on a 12x10 room with a full bathroom. The C'ville Remodeling company had excellent references from all the past customers we called, good grade on the BBB, and very good customer service call backs. Their past customers couldn't say enough good things about C'Ville Remodeling and all the past customers ended up being repeat customers because they were very pleased with the company's final projects. Other contractors we called also had good reports. I talked to JIm many times on email trying to find a way to make the room work with our budget. Jim was very easy to talk to and understand what our budget was and what we needed done. When we finally received all estimates from C'ville Remodeling and a few other contractors and checked references on all the builders being considered, we chose another company that was able to show us a 3D model of the finished product. . After signing papers with the other company, we learned that Jim could have also offered us this service. I mentioned to Jim, for future customers, he should advertise that a 3D image is part of the process for additions. I will most likely use Jim for other projects in the future because of all the customers that rave about his business and their satisfaction. The building of our addition has not been completed yet but is in the process and planning stages. I will report on that company when the job is completed.
Description of Work: C'ville Remodeling had very reasonable prices for this area. We wanted a 12x10 room with a full bathroom added on to our home. Collecting information from other contractors C'ville Remodeling's price was among others in the area. .

+ 0 moreWe contacted Jim after a referral we received from a neighbor. i called him on a Friday afternoon and he asked i send him an email with my contact information and he would contact me on Monday to stop by . He never contacted me on Monday or stop by. I called him on Tuesday and he came by the next day (he was late but seemed nice and knowledgable). He said he would send me an estimate by the end of week. i didnt receive anything so a few days later i emailed him again - no response. A few days after that I called him (it has now been over 2 1/2 weeks since he came by). After a few excuses he finally said he was sorry and would send me something today. It is now the next day and i still havent received anything - apparently he doesnt need the business. This was a big waste of time for me as i needed this to be fixed sooner rather than later.
Description of Work: They were supposed to fix the roof. Came by and took a look but that is as far as he got.

They had very, very careful craftsmanship. They were also very personable. I got three bids, and they were the lowest bid.
Description of Work: They built a new deck and put on a new portion of the roof. They also put a special architect-designed fence in downtown Charlottesville.
