Comment: Suncrest was excellent, outstanding in all respects. They had a very responsible team that worked sometimes without our even being home. We trusted them and they came through. The room they built is insulated, even from floors below, the drywalling is perfect, the painting was excellent and incident free (no spills or mistakes), heating and electrical was done in an excellent manner. We had contact information at all times if anything went wrong, and could have talked to John Cantrell, owner, anytime, directly. However, nothing went wrong. Doug, the on-site worker/team leader who did most of the work was a friendly, nice guy who worked efficiently and hard. The price was way below alternatives, and we were worried at first about quality. No more. Suncrest delivered a quality product at more than competitive prices. They were thousands below their competition. I cannot provide one negative on their work, but could go on and on about their quality. They laid down plastic, and did not harm our existing floors in hauling up lumber and materials. Doug cleaned up the place, vaccumed, and swept up. They installed a plastic "bubble" with a zipper and all sawdust and work was done behind the bubble. They even fixed some heating and air conditioning problems for which the original builder was responsible. They matched baseboards and retained the old baseboards (from the entryway into the new room area) to save money. We took up the rug from another room and used it for tis bonus room and the installer got that done ver well. If you are doing any remodeling, give Suncrest a chance. We highly recommend them. We have at least two other projects for which we are going to use them. If you are like us -- frustrated at finding good, dependable home remodeling and general contractors -- Suncrest is for you. We consider them a real find.
Description of Work: Description of Services: Suncrest Builders, based in Leesburg (109 EAST MARKET ST, LEESBURG, VA 20176) built a bonus room of approximately 10 feet by 20 feet into our Reston town home. It was a third floor option that the original builder did not install. It was a complicated little project because it was on the third floor. HVAC needed to re-located. We obtained three bids, and Suncrest Builders was the lowest.

Overall everything went well. At first it started slowly after John came over to look at the work needed. We had to negotiate costs and work done because I had a budget to work with and a lot of repair to do. We had originally wanted a backsplash to be done and tile work around our fireplace, but with all the work we wanted, we had gone outside of our budget, so we did was absolutely necessary. After I got the estimate, John came out personally to collect the signature and deposit and literally the next day, I had someone at my house working on the electrical. The electrical guy did a fantastic job, making sure everything he did was to code and doing everything to my exact specification. Everything was also done quickly, the next day the electrical guy came back to finish off the work and within another day John had already gotten his dry wall guys to patch up the holes created. Now the electrical guy was also the person who fixed the water damage on the dry wall molding in my basement. Lets just say he messed up, came back another day and messed up again. A small dent in the molding that was pretty visible. The replacement molding was also not the same as the one I had originally, so it looked pretty weird. John came on by, saw the mistake and got someone else to come by a different day to fix it up right correctly. Working around my schedule, he had someone come by, do it right, with the right molding. This company does a great job, of making sure they do the work quickly, as clean as possible ( not leaving any mess anywhere they worked ), around your schedule as much as possible and also what I liked the most was that he was willing to come back and redo any work I didn't find was done right. The professionalism from this company was the best I've had ever worked with. And I've gone through two kitchen remodels, redoing my deck( which was the worst experience ever ), basement remodel and bathroom remodels. The pricing was a bit high for me, but it wasn't over the top. But if thats the cost for the professionalism I got, I believe it was definitely a fair price.
Description of Work: We had a lot of electrical work done and drywall repair for mold. They investigated the source of the water damage and help sealed it off and then repaired the dry wall and molding that were damaged. For the electrical work, we basically had a tone of lighting moved and created.

The Tile Shop recommended Suncrest to us for our tiling projects. We decided to use them after meeting with John Cantrall. He was enthusiastic, professional, experienced and had some creative ideas. His team came in and prepped the areas. They were neat, put down plastic to protect the floors and did a great job cleaning up each day. They worked on the bathroom first. It took 5 days to finish. It looks fantastic. They finished the kitchen the following week. The travertine backsplash really finished off the kitchen. It looks beautiful. Lubosh is a true craftsman. Lastly they transformed the fireplace. They built a step for the hearth and placed an inlaid mantel into the wall. And then tiled around it. Lubosh came on Saturday to finish the work because we were having a party that evening. We really appreciated the effort they made to get the project done quickly. They were great to work with. I would work with them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: John Cantrall and his team did a fantastic job on 3 tiling projects in our home: kitchen backsplash, stone fireplace and tub & shower in master bathroom. John did a great job communicating throughout the process. He was very responsive and professional. We love the way all 3 projects turned out. They were all professional, reliable and produced beautiful work. I highly recommend them.

Was moving back into my old house, and needed water damage seen to. Also needed the work done before my move in date. Workers were courteous and hard working, and considering some complications unrelated to, but effecting their work (a leaking water line to a refrigerator that threatened to damage what they were working on, until a plumber came to repair it), they completed the work in a timely manner.

Builder provided estimate and we verbally agreed on price, but then did not return messages. Builder verbally indicated he would perform work but then dropped from job the week before work was supposed to begin. No contract was signed so builder was "legally" free to walk away, but not a good experience and inconvenienced my wife and I. This was the least responsive of 3 contractors I worked with to remodel my home. He did not perform any work as noted above, but I cant give this person a good review.

Response from SUNCREST BUILDERS
We never received a signed contract, estimate or deposit but were increasingly pressured to order material and schedule a start date. We determined that it was in everyone's best interest to not pursue the work and terminate the relationship.

We are very pleased with the work Suncrest Builders did on our master bath. John Cantrall was enthusiastic about helping us meet our goals even though we were on a limited budget. John let us know up front what to expect in terms of the way his crew and contractors operate and we found him to be completely honest and accessible throughout the project . The first day on the job, the crew prepped the house so as to have minimal impact on us, and on our pets, while they worked. Indeed, in the evenings and on weekends, we wouldn't have known a renovation was going on in our home except for not having access to our master bath. John assigned Bruce to do the prep, demo, wainscot and plumbing, and Lubosh to do the tile. Both of these guys are true craftsmen and very meticulous about their work. The wainscot is gorgeous and the tile work is flawless. John's granite and shower door contacts also did great work and were very easy to deal with. There were no surprises during the job and John was very amenable to changes as the job progressed with no variation to the initial labor estimate. We feel we got great value for our investment and will definitely consider Suncrest Builders for future projects.
Description of Work: Master bath semi-renovation. Suncrest removed the old tile, vanity top, shower door, plumbing fixtures and medicine cabinets and replaced with travertine tile, a wainscot tub surround, granite vanity top, frameless show door, new plumbing fixtures and medicine cabinets.

John Cantrall, the owner of Suncrest, was prompt in coming out, giving us an estimate & negotiating a reasonable price for remodeling the kitchen on a new home we just purchased. Our overall experience was quite positive - the kitchen looks great. Suncrest is somewhat a victim of its own success in that it has multiple customers' jobs going at once. So John is going to assign the project to a project manager. The work will be done mainly by a couple of employees, plus additional subs (electrician, plumber) if, as here, they are required. The project manager and main employees may not be available every day. Be prepared on your end by making sure you have more than enough of the materials you need, as reorders may delay the project, depending on your source. For a multi-layered job like this, you are going to have Suncrest in and out of your house for ~3 weeks. There was difficulty arranging the appearance of the plumber, perhaps because we added his services after the project was underway. Don't be shy about contacting John to have him come out & course correct the assigned group if needed - we had to do that once to keep them on schedule. At the end, they did a lot of great work in a very short time. We are getting many compliments on the backsplash & island in particular. The backsplash was a lot of work - cutting individual tiles to place the glass inserts and installing it all on the diagonal. Suncrest's price for a high-quality installation was VERY reasonable. The project manager did tell us at the end that it would have looked better with unsanded grout - the tile company I chose sold me sanded grout. I personally didn't know the difference & like it as it is. However, I would expect to hear something like that before it's put in, not after. The "grout" exchange was puzzling, since previously, the manager was proactive in properly advising us that we needed to change our original choice in backsplash tile, as what came in wasn't what we expected & wasn't suitable. He was also proactive in making suggestions about the island. If possible, I will add pictures later so you can see for yourself how the backsplash & island turned out. John is very honest & personable. He will get everything done the way you want it, because he wants you to be satisfied, which we are. We would like to use Suncrest again for additional projects we are planning.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel: replaced ~300 sq. ft. of existing floor tile with porcelain tile; added tile & glass diagonal backsplash; added 7 undermount lights & light rail to existing cabinets; added electrical outlet, new cabinets & wine rack to one side of existing island; repaired drywall from granite removal (granite previously done by a separate, "granite only" company); installed kitchen sink faucet. We provided the materials used in the remodeling.

We contacted Suncrest Builders (John Cantrall) when we received a positive recommendation from a neighbor. His price was by far the best we received (we interviewed approx. 5 other companies), and John impressed us immediately with his confidence that Suncrest could provide us with excellent design and quality for the right price. So far things have gone so well. We have the equivalent of a brand new house with a design that integrates well with our neighborhood and a really fantastic interior. John has worked with us throughout the process in an engaged and responsive way, always keeping in mind our project goals and often offering creative ideas/solutions as we proceed. Moreover, John and his excellent crew have worked incredibly hard throughout an extremely difficult winter to keep our project moving. My neighbors regularly comment that Suncrest's guys are always at the house and always busy. We have had a really positive experience so far and can't wait until it's finished.
Description of Work: Our 1950s house was almost completely gutted and redesigned/rebuilt, an extra level (up) was added, and the main level was bumped out. The exterior was completely redone as well (new roof, brick work, siding etc.). The job is not quite finished yet, but when finished there will be approx. 2200 new/renovated space, including kitchen, 4.5 baths, and multiple bedrooms.

Over a year of renovation and $500K later, we can say that overall it was an outstanding experience to work with Suncrest Builders. Suncrest has three traits that set it apart from other builders we have worked with. First, integrity. John Cantrall is completely honest, and we were always impressed by his integrity. John is meticulous in quoting and planning work. You can trust John with your money and with your home. Second, innovation. We ran into several unexpected problems during our renovation. Suncrest not only solved the problems, but came up with solutions that actually improved on our original plan. Third, artistry. Suncrest uses some very talented subcontractors. In particular, their kitchen and bath contractors are outstanding. Our new kitchen and our bathrooms rival those in high-end designer magazines, and frankly they are jaw-dropping. Delivered on budget and on schedule too. Thank you, Suncrest Builders!
Description of Work: Suncrest Builders completely gutted and rebuilt our 3000 sq. ft. rowhouse in Old Town, Alexandria, VA. The work was very extensive and included a new designer kitchen, 4.5 new bathrooms, 4 new bedrooms, 2 new fireplaces, an elevator, extensive roof, foundation and exterior work, replacement of all windows and doors, new hardwood flooring throughout the house, new electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems, etc. Suncrest also renovated our garage, built a backyard fence and did extensive decorative brick and stonework in the front and back of the house. The quality of Suncrest's work was uniformly impeccable. We were particularly impressed by Suncrest's ability to manage the many details of such a large project within budget and on schedule. Our renovated home continually draws praise from visitors, and people walking by our house often stop to admire it. Thanks to Suncrest we have the Old Town home of our dreams. Suncrest is an extremely capable builder and uses subcontractors that deliver outstanding results. If you need work done on your house, and you want in done on time and on budget, look no further. You can't go wrong with Suncrest Builders.

Overall the job was done very poorly with little supervision of employee which resulted in some very poor workmanship. What was supposed to take a few weeks took a few months. The issues we encountered during this remodel are too numerous to mention. The net result was that we had to replace the entire ceiling in our family room from the leaks from master bath remodel above. Before the ceiling was finally replaced it had patchwork done. Then the ceiling was bowing so we had to have that replaced. We used another contractor to replace the ceiling on our dime. This was after months of no call backs. About four months after the remodel was completed we discovered a small crack in the tile floor in master bath. We called the contractor and they visited and said they would take care of it. A few months later the crack eventually went across the entire floor. We tried over and over to make contact with the contractor and we very seldom got a response. The answer was always the same when we did hear from him. We'll get back to you with a date. When we did get a date. Then the date would come and go. After almost two years of broken promises we gave up and bit the bullet and hired another contractor in 2012 to remodel master bath again. When this other contractor saw how the tile floor was installed during the demolition they responded, "no wonder it cracked". Quite a bit of head shaking. Electrical, plumbing, painting, vanity installation, etc. Finally our master bathroom is finished. We were very patient with this contractor and had hoped that we wouldn't have to write a bad review.
Description of Work: Remodel entire master bath. Replace shower and enlarge, replace tub with whirlpool bath, replace toilet, install two new vanities, install two medicine cabinets with lighting, replace all floor tile, shower tile, wall tile and tub deck, paint.

After contacting Suncrest, John was out in a few days to look at the job and provide and estimate. Estimate was received a couple of days later. His estimate was right on with some others. He followed through, and he was prompt with any responses to questions - so therefore we decided to go with Suncrest. Once we decided to go ahead with the work, it began the next week. Took 2 days to complete and looks wonderful. His installer was great - paid close attention to details. It looks like a whole new kitchen!

This is the first contractor I can honestly say that we had no problems with.... Extremely punctual, always called ahead, called if running later then they said. The workmanship was excellent and they cared and completed every bit of detail. They cleaned everything each day before they left. They would redo any area that I wasn't 100% satisfied with. We love our finished fireplace and wall, and the experience was stressfree. We will definitely be using Suncrest Builders again.

The work provided was EXCELLENT! John Cantrall had previously worked for Lofft construction and been highly rated before branching off on his own with Suncrest. He provided an excellent bid (by far, the most competitive offer we received after 4 other quotes). His crew and especially Juan the site manager were amazing and did some of the best quality work I have seen. They were timely and professional. They did such great work that we have recommended them to several friends and neighbors. John also has a good eye for details, is able to work within budgets, and keep costs down. He has a great eye for design elements as well. To summarize - Suncrest was competitive in bidding, timely, professional and does excellent work!!! In addition, they did a smaller project in our downstairs and helped convert our old kitchen into a bar! That was also an excellent job!!
Description of Work: Plan involved conversion of a carport into a kitchen. Suncrest came up with plan, filed permits, installation of subflooring, water, heating/cooling from existing HVAC, electrical work, wood floors, demolition of wall between carport/current house, installation of provided cabinetry, remodeling of fireplace, installation of skylights and bay windows. Granite was purchased and installed separately. Appliances and cabinetry purchased separately.

The project could not have gone smoother. Both the demolition & construction/tile crews were incredibly tidy, CONSTANTLY cleaning up after themselves. The teams were also hard working & very professional, constantly seeking feedback to ensure that they were abiding by our wishes. Without question, the tile expert was a perfectionist. As a result, our bathroom exceeded our expectations! We HIGHLY recommend this team & will reach out to Suncrest again for any remodeling needs we have.
Description of Work: We contracted with Suncrest Builders to have our master bath remodeled. Specifically, we used their services to handle the demolition/removal of exisiting tile, construction of a half-wall between our tub & shower, and installation of travertine tile on the floors, tub deck, & shower floor/walls. In addition, we had new faucets, etc. installed on our sinks, tub, & shower.

Very responsive to all our requirements. Dependable and tidy crew. Contractor worked with us to select the new bath, tile etc., and made good suggestions along the way as the work was being completed. Worked well with our condo association and building management, which has strict rules and regulations. They were all a pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is considering a remodeling project.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of two bathrooms (installation of new whirlpool bath with new electrical wiring, fixtures, tiling, vanity, tiled shower stall with seat, granite counter top, vessel sink, lighting). Installation and painting of french doors, with hardware, minor plumbing work in kitchen, kitchen floor filing. Also removal of interior wall, involving moving electrical wiring, woodwork, sheetrock, etc.
