David James Homes

I just have recently finished a contract with this company to build a home. The following is my opinion of our project, and it is a process I wouldn’t repeat. First our foundation was placed pointing to a different part of the lot then we desired. The drywall finishing is cracking and unlevel while the baseboards were not miter cut and had large gaps at the walls. In the kitchen the window and cabinets were not level. The wrong carpet color was installed, and the doors were stained a substantially different color than the trim. We had our house fail inspections over 12 times as listed by zoning and planning. There were long periods of time when no work was being done despite good weather. Throughout the process, our zoning and planning office served as a great resource for help including telling us about DPOR. On DPOR’s site there are complaints against David James Homes (also known as Heckman Homes, Inc.). We made sure as much as possible was communicated through emails. We made as many visits to the house to check on the work being done and did research as much as possible. If I had this to do again, I would save the two years plus of aggravation on this project and just buy a home. To say the least, I wasn’t happy with them. Worst Experience I have ever had, they even tried to double bill us at least twice. Check the BBB and DPOR for more information.

My husband and I were very excited to work with David James Homes to build our new home. We went in and picked out the plan that worked best for us. Everyone in the showroom was very nice, Katie and Brian. We were in contact with Brian regarding the pricing for our home and he was very quick to respond with updated pricing as we made changes. July 21, 2015 The construction manager and excavator came out to do our lot inspection. Everyone was on time and very nice. We were excited to work with everyone. At that time we were told Brian would be in contact with us regarding cost for foundation changes etc. We hadn't heard anything by the end of the week so we stopped into the showroom. Brian explained that he hadn't heard back from his construction manager and that he would be in contact with me soon. July 28, 2015 I sent him an email to follow up and am still waiting for his response... We spent quite a bit of time picking out our plan with David James Homes. All of that time and energy spent was a waste. We cannot use the plan we decided on as it is their plan. How disappointing. This is very poor business practice. Timeliness and communication are so important in the process, maybe they didn't want our business.
