He showed up on time but, didn't get done what I wanted done in the time that I bought from the big deal. I think it should have taken him two hours. It was easy to schedule.

Description of Work: Mr. Turner was polite, clean, and knew what he was doing. |We bought this package with the notion of having our two old window sills replaced primed, and painted. This seemed a reasonable four hour job, in our opinion, as we discussed with Richard prior to the appointment. |He forgot the first appointment. We rescheduled; no big deal. |When we showed him the work, he indicated that this was not a four hour job, but at least eight. As a matter of fact, it seemed, it would be less work to install two new windows,. He would charge a around $180 each. |We were surprised an disappointed, but decided to ask him to replace an old section of soffit sheathing 30" by 8 feet, for which we did have plywood, nails, primer and paint. He did this work for us for the $149 at about four hours. We are left uncertain about our decision to buy the package. Were we naïve to hope the sills could be replaced for $150? |

I had purchased two 8' lengths of brick mold and the 8' 1x8's prior to Turner's arrival as he had advised and had already primed them to be ready for installation. He took a brief look at the window and said my best bet would be to replace the entire window; and that he would not be able to repair it to my satisfaction., certainly not for the $149 value of this deal. I explained to him that this window is a Pella replacement window installed as part of a total window replacement project in 2006. The rot requiring repair is on the window sill and brick mold surrounding the window, not the window itself, so I thought the suggestion that my best bet would be to replace the entire window to be absurd. These windows cost $1000 each eight years ago. He asked if there was anything else I would like him to look at and I showed him three Hardy boards on the roof over the front porch that had been installed too close to the roof line and had soaked up rain water, softened and needed replaced. He said my deal did not cover repairs above 8'. Mr. Turner was only at my place for about 1/2 hour and I suggested that he should leave and that I would apply for a refund of my cost of this "deal" from Angies List. He said he would have to deduct the cost of his trip from my "deal". I said I should be entitled to a full refund. .
Description of Work: Nothing. He arrived 2 hours late, took a look at the window that had a rotted sill and rotted brick mold and said he would not be able to repair the rot to my satisfaction.

This Getleman is another Fine Angies List Member who has elected to fail to tell the entitre matter of truth This gentleman was offered a FREE ESTIMATE.......HE DECLINED !!!!! HE asked for a FREE Consultation,,,,,Free Consultations ere Only given at OUR CONVIENANCE,,,and within 10 miles our base at Roanoke Airport ! HE resided over 25 miles away from our base The Client DEMANDED A FREE ESTIMATE to meet HIS SCHEDULE ! HE refused to wait until last week,,when I was In Blacksburg doing other work !!!!!! Description of Work: First, I emailed the company with possible service dates. I then called the company. I spoke with Mr. Turner. None of my service request dates were available. He asked me to explain my project and I did. He stated that I needed to have the supplies on the arrival of the work crew. Also that my project was complicated and I should have everything ready. Well, as I am not a contractor, I asked him exactly what I needed. He then told me the list of items I should have ready. I had no idea how I would find the time to acquire these supplies and equipment and I was not at all familiar with the items needed. I guess I am used to the provider giving me an estimate, then getting the supplies/equipment and charging me for whatever they needed, but this was not the case here. If I had understood this before I ordered, I would not have ordered this deal at all, but I guess I did not understand the fine print. We were never able to set on a date, I was told to call him when I got the supplies and then we would try and schedule a day. Really, I do not have time to go all over looking for 'stops' and specific lumber, etc. For me, this 'deal' was not a good deal, at all.

Excellent, careful worker. He works slowly but it is done right. There was a slight problem with the installation of the shower door and when notified of the leak, promptly repaired it.
Description of Work: Repaired wall and floor, removed black mold, prepared wall that had been wallpapered to be painted, installed shower door, installed new flooring.

Unfortunately , this Client is an Immigrant who does not fully understand American Customs or proceedure. This client purchased a Big Deal Special and the deal while supposed to be handled in One Visit to the clients required 3 trips at two seperate times . The Client refused to pay for services She ordered , refused to compensate us adequately for attempts to locate parts for a special order need she required, and refused to allow work which needed to be concealed behind walls to be performed ! All in ALL , she was a BAD Customer all the way around and NOT someone I care to do work for in the future

I truly appreciate the clients grade and the Good reccomendation . I do NOT understand her comment that she paid 300.00 for plaster materials however. She purchased a $ 239.00 Big Deal ,and paid Me , $45.00 for plaster materials , compound & gauging plaster .Perhaps she is commenting about the repair total cost ? I can only assume a mistake was made but nothing to get alarmed about and will say no more about the matter . She was a Very Kind Lady , recuperating from a heart problem with some very nice pets and I enjoyed doing her repairs .

They were very professional and courteous. They notified me of any abnormalities that arose that needed my attention. While installing they noticed that not all of my doors matched so I had to head back to the store. They were great with quality control and asked me to open & shut the first installed door to see how easily it skimmed the carpet. Thus making adjustments to my liking. They left the work area nice an clean too.
Description of Work: Richard Turner and his father removed 5 closet doors(10 total) in our house and replaced them with Bi-fold doors.

Repaired ~ 4'X4' section of basement ceiling that had been cut out to access water leak. This was a special buy of 2 1/2 hours of work. Company charged 45 minutes of this for coming by to see what I would like them to do. They are not the fastest workers I have ever seen.

(Member name removed) is incorrect when He states that we charged Him for an estimate . He Never Paid one cent nor was any deduction made from the time that was purchased . He purchased 2 men for 2hrs , he received 2.75hrs of labor by 2 men...an extra 45 minutes of time for completion of his project.....which was more complicated than expected , at NO additional charge . Seems that somedays , you just cant please anyone.

Description of Work: Poor communication from vendor to get a first response. Ended up getting a call but only after 2 emails and 2 phone calls and 2 days later. In my view, nothing appeared internally to be set up on the vendor's end to organize the deal in an efficient manner. Fine print restriction of nothing over 8ft in height was too restrictive for us. Overall, not a good experience. Noted that marketing aspects of this trade are less concentrated than the execution of the different aspects as to what they provide but there has to be a bit better effort on the part of this company to be prepared to make and secure an offer of this kind and the restrictions were a pretty "snug box" in which a potential customer had to work from. In my view, if this was an incentive to develop a longer lasting relationship with a nice upfront incentive, it had the opposite effect. And, we had plenty of other work past the confines of this agreement to have made this beneficial for a vendor.

I would like to start by saying that I am Disapointed that I could NOT meet this clients need. I have been in business for over 40 yrs. and Pride myself in exemplary service and attention to detal , but MR [member name removed], has failed to disclose the entire truth in this matter. Yes , he did purchase a Big Deal, and Yes He Did call our office ! It so appears that in his zeal to make a purchse , Mr [member name removed] Failed to read and fully comprehend the Details of his Purchase ,as he desired Us to perform jobs that were prohibited in the details of the deal . The Deal specifically stated NO Roofs NO Hiegths above 8 foot and MR [member name removed] desired for Us to make repairs to a light or lights that were 15 foot above Ground. He relayed this info to my wife on his first call, and when I received It , I did NOT give it 1st priority. Unfortunately, This is where I made my a mistake, because, at 9:00 am the next morning Mr [member name removed] called the office, raising cain, etc etc. My wife informed that I would need to call him backwithin 15 minutes, and when I did, HE let me have it! He informed me that we operated a lousy organization, we were Inept, Not geared to providing service as advertised etc , etc . I then asked Mr [member name removed] what He requested, He responded, to which I then informed him, that his request could not honored as it was was prohibited in the details of the deal. At this point , He Exploded,,,, and began to read aloud the details of the Deal to which I patiently listened. When he reached the last detail ,, He read aloud, NO Roofs , No hieghts above 8ft..... He became somewhat tongue tyed and rambled on, in complaint of similar style to his written & published comments I am not certain that Fully understand all that he is saying , But I will aplogise for not being able to meet his needs and demands as no business survives without pleasing their Clients .

Unfortunately , things do not always Progress our Proceed AS PLANNED ! As we proceeded on the Home Service Change , we encountered many difficulties with the existing house wiring that were NOT anticipated ,nor could they be planned for . Many of the difficulties had been created by previous electricians attempting to perform what turned out to be Sloppy work , that we only understood once we began to unravel the circuits . Needless to say, these encounters slowed down the process considerably as we could not proceed until the problems were solved and problems were defeated . Once we were able to get through and over the hurdles presented and solved , the many problems that existed finally disappeared and we able to close out the job . Attempting to explain the scenario's to some one who does not understand the complexities of an electrical system proved to be fruitless, so we stopped trying to explain ourselves and the existing problems. We also constructed a NEW deck , and the construction requirements for Decks had also changed ,therefore We had learn the new spec's which created a time lag in construction in order to meet the NEW Code requiremnents . All in all , a new learning experience for ALL involved ,but a final conclusion was reached much to everyones delight

They did a very good job. They were very nice people; it’s a father and son team. They were very respectful and polite. I was very impressed with their professional manner. We would use them again in the future if we needed to.
Description of Work: We had Benjamin Bear Associates / O.L. TURNER & Sons Inc. do some major renovations for us. They most recently built a deck for us. It was a major project because they had to build a set of stairs since it was a second-storey deck.

Mr. Turner returned my call and made an appointment to come by within a day. He was punctual and seemed very thorough and professional during the walk through to get measurements needed for the estimate. However the ballpark figures he quoted for exterior painting of the house and replacement of the deck (while we were talking )were way above the estimates I received from 2 other companies who came by a week later . After I had already decided to go with another company, he called to say he had an estimate ready. I didn't ask for the figures; I thanked him and told him I had decided to go with another company.
Description of Work: I called for an estimate on exterior painting of my house, some remodeling of both bathrooms and kitchen, and repair or replacement of my deck.

This project was typical of most small home problems,,, Cold winter Air was blowing into the Home around the Front Door entrance,, creating a draft , and loss of Heat The problem was resolved by simply installing New WeatherStripping around the door opening . The client has an address of Vinton VA , although she lives nearer Bedford County VA. , than Vinton VA. The COSTS were kept at a Minimum by employing the following techniques . Her problem was looked at , when we were in the area, on another call,,therefore , NO Special trip required to survey Her problem and Diagnose the best repair solution . The Repairs were made as we traveled back to another project in the area , thus resulting in NO Additional Service Costs to the Client for picking up and obtaining any materials required for her repair . Not All problems are resolved as easily or as inexpensively as this repair , but we'll do our absolute best to resolve your problems in the same manner !
