S & S Tree And Landscaping

The actual work went well. When I called the owner a day or two afterwards to tell him one of my sprinkler heads was now not working was when the issue began. Unlike the professional appearance before and during the work he spoke to me in such a rude, crude, insulting and inflammatory manner refusing to come look at the problem and denying there even was a problem. After several minutes of this and of a circular argument I hung up in disgust. He called back to say he was having a bad day but the conversation we had was so unsettling and his manner so surprising that I told him I would take care of it and make an appropriate report on Angies List. Two problems with this young man's company and service besides the lack of support following his work. One, it appears his company is underfunded when I spoke with him in the phone he was in the midst of a job that he couldn't break off from (although I didn't ask for immediate assistance or anything) and my wife and I got the impression that he was under a lot of financial pressure. During the work for us he mentioned it to the men working for him. Two, since they spliced into our sprinkler system why didn't they do a quality check afterwards by running it a bit to make sure it was ok.

We received a quote from them a few days after requesting a quote from their website which was great. They showed up and left the quote on our door with all the information we could have asked for. Since we signed and sent it back, they have been arriving once a week to mow our lawn. They mow and blow the driveway and clear any debris that may have fallen during the week. They have been very consistent in showing up and when it rains or there is rain in the forecast they have been very good to come early or use one of the reserved days to mow the lawn.

We requested a quote for their services and thought they would call and set up a time. Instead, they showed up early one morning and left us a package with the quote and a bunch of flyers about lawn care. This made it incredible convenient (no time off work or trying to fit them into our schedule) and all the information was provided in a package left on the door. We couldn't think of a question that we would have liked the person to be there to answer that wasn't already in the packet. We have 3/4 of an acre or so so the quote, I thought, was reasonable, we reviewed the quote, signed and sent it back. They showed up at the end of that week and have been mowing/clearing the lawn for once a week since then. They even apologized in the beginning about not setting up a schedule immediately as there were so many new customers and the weather was not permitting for them to stick to a specific schedule (they have days set aside at the end of the week to make up for rain days if they can't do a lawn during their normal times). Now that the season is well under way, they have an established schedule and we can call to cancel any weekly service we choose if we don't want them to come as frequently. Our previous lawn care providers were good and showed up, but they always missed the corners and there was never the 'clean' look you expect. Sand S shows up, does the entire lawn, trims the edges, makes neat lines and clears any fallen debris. Not sure what else we could ask for in a weekly mowing service!

Overall, not a bad service and I would recommend. The company is generally on time with its services though I did have a few instances in the past when they promised to stop by for additional yard work (i.e. - seeding, fertilizing, etc.) only to not show up. This happened for about three weeks straight in the Fall of 2012. By the time they did show, the weather already changed and began to freeze at night. Other than this experience, the company is reliable and does a good job in basic cutting and edging.

Steve was very personable and approachable throughout his estimate; he was polite and provided several options for short and long term projects. I was impressed not only by his tree knowledge and the pride he immediately took in his work, but also that he took a teamwork approach to the overall project. Steve and his crew arrived on time and spent a half day taking down the trees and working on removing deadwood and sucker growth from the oak tree. They took care in removing one of the large limbs that had broken due to the recent snow and ice storm, and even removed the portion of the branch that fell into our neighbor's yard, which I appreciated. The team was very friendly, responsive, and approachable--and I'm sure they would have been that way even if I hadn't brought them out freshly baked brownies and water. While Steve admitted the job took longer than he would have liked, he made it a priority to do a good job and make sure we were happy with the service. I feel we received an excellent value for our money, and I would gladly recommend S and S Tree and Landscaping to anyone needing tree work and landscaping. I'm looking forward to getting his bid our front patio and retaining wall design, and would definitely use him again in any future tree work needs.
