We switched over to natural gas. So, we negotiated them with to buy back the heating oil. This was the reason for their last visit. We will not be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: We use Woodfin annually for heating and oil requirements. Their last visit to us was a week ago.

When I reviewed the record I see that there were about 12 transactions in the last 3 years that went perfectly. I understand you will not be using our oil delivery as you converted to gas, but please keep us in mind for all your other home needs - Plumbing, Electrical, or a Free Home Security system. We can even fix your gas furnace if it breaks down and your installing company is unavailable. Please don't blame the price of oil on us! Took only two hours to arrive despite snow and cold weather, nice guys with no attitude, they get right to work, and had unit working within minutes.

They are the best people that I’ve found to take care of your plumbing and heating needs. I asked them to come out and do a quote and stuff like that for heat pumps - I knew that I had to replace them soon. They got a lot of information that I needed to know. I went ahead and placed an order with them. They came out with an army of people and had it done in no time at all and in an efficient manner. I have two units, one up and one down, and the cost was about $18000. The price was competitive but I was never happy about the price. I would use them in the future, if necessary.

We used them probably because when we moved here, the neighbors were using them for oil and they recommended them to us. I didn’t shop around that much when we chose them. All their workers are licensed, and are very thorough and good. They return phone calls quickly and are very punctual and professional. Each time we need anything done, we just call them. They were originally called Gill Oil but now they are called Woodfin.
Description of Work: I use Woodfin for three different categories of work. Firstly, for heating protection, whereby they come annually and tune up our furnace; secondly, plumbing protection whereby they come annually to take a look at our plumbing; and thirdly, to take care of our electrical work. They put in a $5000 worth new furnace and air conditioning system at one time for us. They also sell oil.

The guys who came out to do the work were very nice and polite, however they were working with my elderly aunt and they continuously tried to up sell throughout the project. The first job went okay. They were supposed to come out and repair a dripping faucet and they ended up selling my aunt a new toilet. When they came out and did the second job they said that they could not find the parts to the sink, but they ended up taking the parts with them. While they were out for the sink repair they also tried to sell her a new sink and a toilet. In the end they repaired the leak and installed a new toilet. I would not hire them to come out for plumbing work again.
Description of Work: I hired Woodfin to do several projects for my elderly aunt.

Our technicians are trained to sell replacements where repairs will be so costly that a replacement makes more sense. They are also taught that selling replacements to customers that don't need anything but a simple repair is not the way we want to treat our customers and it is totally unacceptable. My experience with the entire company was fantastic. Sarah was so helpful when I called to make the appointment. Robbie called me when the technician was on the way. Travis was extremely knowledgeable and so nice. He explained how the whole heat pump system works and why it was not warming the house. They have made quite an impression on me. I won't go anywhere else for my heating and air conditioning needs.
Description of Work: I am not from Virginia and thus, not familiar with heat pumps. It felt like cold air to me. The emergency system came on, but also was not hot. I tried everything I knew, but nothing worked. Travis, my technician, came out, looked at the entire system, determined that the "heat" system was working, but that the gas was not turned on to the "emergency" system.

AC system failed. Since we came from out-of-town, getting the job completed in one day was necessary. This company was very responsive; they easily accommodated two last minute date changes for the service. Was good that the technician arrived on time early in the day, as he had to leave for a few hours to allow lines to defrost. Even though it was late in the day, he did return to complete the work, saving us the time, effort and expense of another trip to the site. Technician gave suggestions on options for the repair, saving us unnecessary expense.
Description of Work: Found leak from a/c and spent considerable time defrosting lines, returned later in the day for freon addative and changed filters. Technician was respectful of our out-of-town constraints and worked everything into one day.

The sales rep came out and I did not like his professionalism. The quote he gave me wasn't detailed enough. I did not end up choosing them.
Description of Work: I called them and they came out and gave me an estimate on some work I needed done. They wanted to charge me $99 for the estimate- I told them that I wouldn't do this and they conveniently said that they would come out and give me a quote for free.

I am truly sorry that your experience with our company was not better. It seems that we did not understand what you were looking for when you asked for an estimate. Our $99 diagnostic fee applies to service repair calls and in this case they sent one of the field service supervisors to your home. They do not usually provide a detailed write up for repairs as generally customers just want to know what the problem was and the cost of the solution. Had we sent a Comfort Consultant to your home, he or she would have performed a detailed analysis of your situation and offered several alternatives for your consideration. They have always been responsive, even on holidays. They are there when they promise. We have them service our fuel needs and their prices are average. They are dependable when it comes to keeping us in fuel.
Description of Work: We have a service contract with this company to service our furnace. They clean and adjust the furnace every Fall. I don't remember the cost.

With oil delivery, they could never get the billing straight. They offer a very small cash discount if you pay by a certain date. I always met that date and they would repeatedly "forget" and leave the small discount as a balance due on my account. Then they wouldn't let me know about it until several months went by. I'd prove it was their mistake. They would fix it. Then it would happen again. I finally found another company with an efficient billing system and a lower price on oil! When I decided to replace my antique oil boiler, I invited them to submit a proposal. Shock of all shocks...they were the only contractor of 6 to suggest a new OIL boiler. Uh...seen prices lately? They quoted an 85% efficient oil boiler with no extras at the same price that later got me (from another company) a 95% high efficiency gas modulating boiler, additional piping to split the house in 2 zones, a circulating pump to bring instant hot water to all my faucets, and a 10 year parts and labor warranty. What a joke the oil boiler quote really was!
Description of Work: I used them for oil delivery for several years. I also invited them to submit a proposal to replace my old oil boiler.

Uly showed up on time and conducted a very thorough analysis of our current system. I asked him to price a heat pump to replace our current AC system. Not only did he look at the unit in the garage and the outside compressor, he went into the crawl space to look at the ducting capacity. Ultimately, I felt the price was too high (highest of 3 estimates) but that the estimate was honest.
Description of Work: Woodfin provided one of my 3 estimates for AC replacement with heat pump. They were punctual and professional.

My AC broke on a friday night (would even turn on at all). I check all the fuses etc, and nothing. I called around Saturday morning and most AC places apparently don't work on the weekends? I left a few messages at various AC companies. I left a message with a live person at Woodfin. Sunday I was miserable, and I assumed no one worked on Sunday either, but woodfin called me around 9am and asked if I wanted someone out there that day. Sure! It cost $120 for a Sunday call, but I was MORE than happy, as it was HOT. They couldn't fix it Sunday, but figured out the problem (seized fan on main unit). They picked up the part from a local store Monday morning and by 10am it was fixed. These guys are top notch professionals. I've used smaller AC shops and they're no cheaper, and much less professional. The place I used to use called me back (from my Saturday voicemail) AFTER woodfin had already been out twice and fixed the problem. A+++

I would highly recommend Woodfin for anything. Their staff was very professional, efficient and hard working. They always showed up exactly when they said they would, they worked extremely hard and they did an exemplary job. This job was difficult and complicated and they did what most would consider the impossible. They had extremely dirty work to do and they left our house pristine. I cannot praise them enough. This contractor was one of the best I have ever worked with.
Description of Work: Woodfin relocated existing A/C equipment into our attic, installed new duct work, created dual zones for the A/C, installed an air cleaner the A/C and installed an economizer for our furnace.

Mr. William Davis was very professional and patiently explained the myriad of options. When the report came back, we were all surprised (pleasantly) that it was in the very good range with no issues of mold, etc. This saved us about $1000 since we were expecting to need to have a complete duct cleaning. We have an old house and an infant, so the peace of mind it provided was well worth the cost. We have not yet made any changes to the HVAC system, but when we do we plan to use Woodfin's services.
Description of Work: Woodfin conducted an indoor air quality test. They left a specialized machine in our house for about a week and then provided a detailed, computerized report. This was part of a larger estimate involving upgrading the current oil heat/boiler system and a possible conversion to a heat pump.

These guys came out late at night to check out my electrical box and get all the water out of it. They were quick to respond and very professional. I really appreciated that they came out at night to help me out. I think that really says something about their character.
Description of Work: They came out one night because my dishwasher had overflowed and water got in my electrical box. They cleaned it all out and made sure there were no problems.

They messed up by sending a plumber and not someone with experience giving estimates; the plumber was not skilled enough to quote a rate on what I needed to be done. I think that it was very unprofessional of them to send me a plumber for an estimate, when they should have sent me someone who was qualified to give an estimate. I went with another company.
Description of Work: Woodfin Plumbing sent out a plumber to give me an estimate on redoing the plumbing in my basement.

I am very pleased with their service. They came very quickly and they were rather fair. They were prompt and have good quality of workers. They found the problem right away as the air wasn't flowing from that unit. They fixed it immediately and it works great now. The price was a little high but they did the work good.
Description of Work: They repaired a burnt out wire on one of my air conditioner units that cools my 5500 square foot house. They also serviced all three of my air conditioner units.

The first time someone came out, though he was very nice and punctual and gave me great advice on how to save money until I could afford a new unit, I felt like he didn't believe me when I told him the heater would get too hot. He adjusted something and then left. Then it stopped getting hot at all so I called the service manager the next day who listened patiently while I explained the problem. Someone else came right out, listened to what I was telling him about the situation and got the heater working again, though he didn't figure out the real problem. What impressed me was that as he started to leave, the service manager called him to ask what he'd discovered (!) and the two of them spent an hour on the phone trying everything they could think of until they figured out the problem. Once they figured it out, he gave me options for doing it inexpensively and had it fixed in 20 minutes.
Description of Work: Three of my radiators were blazing, but two were cold. At the same time, my heater was getting way too hot. The problem ended up being bad relays, which they replaced.
