Arrived on time the first day and did the stripping and sanding (very neat, minimum dust The second day, father and son were late(car trouble). They restained the cabinets and put on a coat of poly. I was satisfied with the staining but was dissappointed that cost of the project did not include repairing the more obvious nicks and dings in the doors and sides of the cabinets nor did it include replacing the edging strips which were in bad shape and took away from the overall appearance of the cabinets. While I assumed that replacing the edge strips was included in the estimate, which it was not, I was more than willing to pay additionally to have the strips replaced. Unfortunately, Jay nor his father would return my texts once they were paid for the original work. I would not use them again.

This job of refinishing/refacing, I had gotten 5 estimates from different companies. It included quotes from refinishing, refacing, and getting all new cabinets in the kitchen. I did the most researching for this than all the jobs I had done to my house. Jamie came e to my house and gave me the estimate. He of all of them, gave me the best presentation. The job of refinishing all my cabinets was a two day job, one day to take the cabinet doors to their shop to refinish them, next day to spray the paint on the cabinets. The first day went smooth, removed the doors and hardware on them took them to their shop. The next day they arrived on time. They ran their spray paint hoses into my garage, through the wash room, where my washer/ dryer was, and into the kitchen. They had just cracked open the 2 doors into the washroom from the kitchen and the door from wash room to the garage for their hoses. I was in my garage at my work bench when they started. I heard them as they started spraying. After a few seconds into it, they had stopped, took a few minutes, then resumed. I didn't find out till after they were done what had happened. The fan they had set up in the kitchen window to exhaust fumes they had turned the wrong way. So instead of exhausting the fumes to the outside, it was blowing the spray and fumes into the kitchen! I didn't realize what a total mess it was, not only the sprayed paint was on my kitchen floor, it had left my washroom looking like it had snowed. It wasn't wet paint but white dust all over everything in that room, washer/dryer, shelves and whatever was on those shelves, even had white paint dust in the garage. I didn't notice it much at the time because I had heard them vacuuming after they finished and figured they would leave the house decently cleaned up. Only after they left and I started to clean up the kitchen floor did I realize just how bad it was with paint dust. There was paint overspray on my kitchen floors, paint dust on a desk that was in my kitchen they had covered to protect it from any dirt. It was so bad, the first thought was to clean up as much as I can. I called Jamie the owner, the day or two after and told him about the mess he left. He told me he was out of town, if he was in town, he told me he would've come over and help clean up. It took me three days to clean up all the dust, and clean the kitchen floor. This was a job that wasn't done right to the very end, the cleanup. I had planned to have them refinish all 3 of my bathroom cabinets. After this fiasco, no way. It was hard for me to believe that a company would treat the customer with the non caring attitude they did with me. I would never let them do any more work for me. A lousy attitude like theirs had me wondering how in the world they are in business this long and had a A+ rating with the BBB. I know if I owned a business and had a complaint like this, I would be over their house pronto to correct things to the customers satisfaction. I've had this whole house pretty much redone, new paint, remove carpeting, etc. and never had the blunder like this happen. If the owner would have come over and cleaned up, I would have been satisfied. But since they didn't after knowing there was a mess left by them, I cannot recommend them.

Virginia Refinishing made fantastic verbal presentation of high quality workmanship and professionalism along with website presentations that looked great. The acual work done was a total disaster. My husband had open heart surgery a couple of months prior to the work. Virginia Refinishing failed to provide any notice of toxic vapors, spray, and fumes as well as risks of fires. There was no disclosure of legally required information via Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). They painted over contact shelf paper, painted over brand new disposal, oversprayed new stainless steel appliances, light fixtures. They failed to follow all surface preperation guidlines set forth in the paint manufacturers product information sheets. They failed to provide fresh air input during the spraying. After witholding some $ seeking to prompt corrective actions, they came to our house and the painter who did the work, son of the business owners, verbally assaulted and cursed us as he walked out slaming the door. Better Business reporting was unsuccessful. We filed a complaint with the Virginia Department of Consumer Complaints noting dozens of contractor violationsof Virginia contractor regulations including failure to provide a contract, written change orders, misleading and false advertising, misrepresentation of accepting credit card payments, failure to provide contractor license information, etc. The complaint was investigated and is currently pending a Board Hearing to determine the degree of the violations and applicable consequences. They have a relative who is an attorney. Therefor they appealed to a court higher than small claims stating it will cost them nothing while legal assistance for me would be more than the job cost. I perceive them as frauds who comitted gross negligence who are now relying on the high cost of legal fees to me to get awy with it.
Description of Work: Kitchen Cabinet surface preperation, painting, glazing, and hardware replacment with six (6) coats of lacquer paint as part of a total kitchen renovation. They removed all doors and drawers and took them to be refurbished and painted at their shop. They painted the cabinets in one day and reattached the hardware. They did not replace all hinges and just put several of the old hinges back without comment until presentation of the invoice for $1000.00 more than the written estimate. Paid another contractor $1,800.00 to correct what Virginia Refinishing messed up. Also hundreds of $ in legal fees trying to get ?back.

They were awesome. It was much more cost-efficient than doing cabinet refacing. The job took about three or four days. It's a family-run business. I liked their customer service. They were really personable. They worked with my wife.
Description of Work: They refinished cabinet doors. They sanded them down and restained them.
