Description of Work: In short: Verizon has been more of a headache than it's worth, but we're *stuck* and have no alternative. | |Details: (without the 8 page spreadsheet I've kept) We have had Verizon service since it took over Media One. When "High Speed" was available, we upgraded our service. While it *is* faster than "Dial Up," and I can use the phone and watch TV, it is a necessary evil. Three years, or so ago, we took a lightning strike that took our our Verizon router/modem. Ever since then, we've (I've) spent close to a hundred hours talking to Tech Support in India (and occasionally the Philippines); had the area Service techs here (who are *wonderful*, and because they've been out here so many times, we're on first name basis!); and, been through 8 routers/modems. We have been told that everything that can be done HAS been done. They say that we're "too far" from the branch to even have service. (Then why did we have it for so long without problems?) |Their phone Tech Service is a joke. In the time that we've been experiencing problems, I've become quite knowledgable about our issues. With few exceptions, I have had to deal with the *script* that the lower level agents have to go through. This last call, I started out very diplomatically--allowing them to do their thing before insisting they "escalate" to the next level. Well, *this* particular agent must have decided that I was a total idiot. Not only would he NOT transfer me, but he told me several straight out LIES!! He asked me to do the customary: turn off; turn on, etc. Informing him that I had been this route MANY times and had done ALL the steps necessary already, he went to do the line check. He came back saying there was nothing wrong with our line. (Why was my internet down?) So, he told me to do *thus and such* then pull up Bing. ...didn't load... try Google... it DID load....try Netflix....HE SAID THERE WAS **NO WAY** we could have Netflix service because our service wasn't fast enough. I assured him that we had been watching Netflix for well over a year. THEN... he told me that if I would just upgrade to the 3 Meg service and all our problems would go away. ***WE CANNOT GET 1.0 RELIABLY....HOW CAN WE UPGRADE TO 3???*** He finally consented to send in a tech request. |Our service is still extremely slow, and unreliable. In all this time, Verizon has given me ONE month credit. We've been paying the same amount month after month as other customers with a fraction of the service. I don't have a choice. I hold out hope that, one day, they'll finally help us out. |

The required router/modem that Verizon forces on you sucks. I had to buy a 50 ft ethernet cable and connect my computer to the router to get my internet not to completely suck.

Unfortunately, in my location Verizon is the only provider of internet service. Having been a network engineer for many years and dealing with ISP on a professional basis, I can only say that the experience has been awful. We lose internet connectivity several times per week requiring at minimum a reboot of the DSL router. We are on our 2nd router and the service has not improved. There is obviously a problem between us and the CO that they have not corrected. I have telephoned their support services several times and the experience is always the same. They ask all the basic questions and have you do the same drill over and over and then they end up logging a ticket which is resolved some time later. I don't even bother to call any more. I have been in contact with Comcast and their construction manager tells me that they will expand to our area within a few months. I can hardly wait having been a satisfied Comcast customer in another location.

We are happy with them. They are not cheap, but they do have the best covers. I renew our contract through phone. I have referred them to my family members because I get free minutes through Verizon. They are very hard to get in touch with because I have to go through the automated menus and I can't get to a person when required. It took them a week to mail a new router to us when the internet was down for almost one week, so they took their own time.
Description of Work: Verizon provides cellular phone services for me. They also provide bundled services for cable TV, internet and phone for me.

First of all, when I was exploring the alternative options to COMCAST I contacted the Verizon rep asked about the $29.00 internet "access" fee. I was told that Verizon customarily waiver the "access" fee and that the waiver would apply to me. After I received my first bill, I found the charge on my bill (spread over 3 months). I called Verizon and got only $10.00 removed from the bill. During installation I was told by the Verizon tech that there was no way in which my VCR could work with my current TV, since it was an older model and there was no way my series 2 TIVO could work as it did prior to the installation. So I was left with no VCR nor the TIVO working. I asked him why I could not use a splitter on the input coax line so that I could simultaneously use the TV and TIVO. He said that was impossible because of electrical "impedance". He left with no solution. Subsequently, I have successfully installed a $15 splitter and reconfigured the wiring so that no only does my VCR work, but also my TIVO. I don't know whether he was incompetent or whether he was trying to sell me his DVR for a monthly fee of $20, which he repeatedly said was my option to replace my TIVO.
Description of Work: I signed up for Verizon Fios Triple Play -- internet, TV, and phone for a basic fee of $103/mo. The standard package comes with three rooms of TV cabling installation, which I chose. This includes a "free" wireless router which can be used in a home for a desktop and multiple laptops. It also included three remotes for the TVs and a battery backup for the phone line. Additional charges included the monthly rental of 3 set top boxes plus a number of taxes and fees bringing the monthly total to around $150/mo. My home main TV configuration (in the family room) includes: Analog TV, VCR, Audio Receiver, DVD player, and a series 2 TIVO.

Description of Work: Verizon promised to come out and fix an inside wire problem on my phone. They set up a time and then never came. They did send an automated phone message that told me they were running behind and would get me the next day. I called to make sure they would come and set up another time. Again, they did not show up and this time they did not call. During the second day, I did call customer service and verified that they would be out. They said the technician had taken a vacation day and would not be out. I asked to speak to the manager who kept me on hold for 20 minutes and then got back on the line and swore a person would be out that day. That was the second day - and they didn't show, nor did they call. I had taken two days off from work - my boss was not pleased. In the long run, I ended up researching and fixing the problem myself. On the third day the service man called and said he was ready to come to my house. I told him that it was too late.

Verizon was very good when it came to the installation of the service. They took a lot of time to explain to us how everything worked. I have not really had it that long but so far everything is really good with it. They were very thorough.

They kept bugging me to switch to them and finally I did. The service started going downhill and by the end of the month it was completely out. Over the course of the month, I spent a total of six hours on the phone calling tech support that was located in India. They all said it was my fault and not their issue to solve. Finally, I reached a very educated sounding man who may have studied abroad because he had really good English. He totally got what was going on. He knew the problem and sent a crew out to fix it. It was just the point of all the wasted hours on the phone and one month with no service that I paid for. I pay about $40 a month for the service. I am still using them for now.
Description of Work: They provide my high speed internet service.
