I signed a contract with Stony Point Construction the first week of March 2013. Work was to start immediately on cabinets. Part of the cabinets in my kitchen were to refinished and others were to be built new to accommodate new appliances. Larry wanted me to sign the contract so work could begin on my new cabinets before demolition on April 1. During the week of demolition, the cabinet maker asked us to consider all new cabinets. We said yes. The kitchen renovation was to take 4 weeks. It is June 27, and my kitchen renovation is not complete. So much has gone wrong that it would take hours to explain. I would like help in negotiating a fair end price because of my lack of satisfaction and dealing with not having a kitchen for 3 months, and because the new cabinets were being sanded and stained in my kitchen and so much more. The price of renovations is about $19,000 + about $8,500 for appliances. I feel bad about giving Larry such a poor rating, but no one else should endure what I have gone through. I will have to live with what is an inferior kitchen renovation.
Description of Work: My kitchen was to be remodeled in 4 weeks. After 6 weeks the only thing that is completed is the demolition. I have asked for a plan of action twice at week 4 and week 5. I still do not have a response. Basically since the project is late i would like to know when he exspects to complete each aspect of the job. This would let me know how much longer i will be without a kitchen. i really don't think this is too much to ask.At the end of week six I asked for for an appointment to discuss the future of project. It took more than 24 hours for a response. In week six Larry helped the cabinet maker he hired move some of my cabinets into my kitchen. When I asked him if he would put those cabinets in his kitchen he said no. Why would someone deliver unacceptable work to a customer?

We met with Larry Yancey, the owner of Stony Point Construction, to discuss adding a master suite on to our house. He visited our home three times to learn about what we were wishing for and to look at the situation for putting on the addition. Although we eventually learned that the tight credit market and reduced equity in our home will not allow us to go forward with the addition at this time, we would not hesitate to call on Larry if we found we were able to complete this project in the future. We were extremely impressed with him, and here are the reasons: - He listened carefully to our ideas and desires. We never felt he was rushing; he seemed very willing to spend whatever time it took to do a good job and help us get what we wanted. - He shared a great article on the process of remodeling that talked about what to expect in terms of time, cost, logistics, and some of the "soft" side as far as effect on family, etc. I appreciated his efforts to prepare us and set up some expectations. - He worked with some drawings we had made, and while respecting our basic design, suggested some tweaks that made the design easier to work with and less expensive. He also provided some alternate plans that would have reduced the cost of the project even further. - He was extremely punctual about returning phone calls, showing up as promised, and communicating with us as we e-mailed back and forth about several versions of the plan. I felt a high degree of confidence in his trustworthiness. - He shared stories from past projects that had a bearing on our project - which reinforced to me his 20-some years of experience in this business. - We originally chose to meet with Larry after seeing an extensive addition he did for some friends of ours. His craftsmanship and commitment to quality were obvious in that project, and our friends said he was excellent to work with. Although we were not able to complete our project with Larry, based on our limited experience with him, I would not hesitate to recommend him. I hope to work with him in the future.
Description of Work: Larry Yancey met with us several times to provide a design and estimate for an addition to our house.

The owner, Mr Yancey, was very professional, punctual, and explained everything every step of the way. All work was done on-time and on budget (per the estimate). The quality of work was excellent, and the little things that inevitably come up when remodeling a 1950's home never seemed to throw him (nor increase the price).
Description of Work: Room remodel. Demo of old drop ceiling and wood paneled walls. Installed new drywall on walls and ceilings, painted, installed new light, installed new floors.

Description of Work: We asked for some ideas and estimated cost for a remodel of our front entrance. The owner, Mr. Yancey, was prompt, thorough and professional. The estimated cost of the project was much higher than my husband and I anticipated. As this was a "want to" rather than "need to" project and the stock market has tanked, we decided not to follow through with the work. I will come back to Stony Point Construction if we have future projects, obtaining estimates from one or two other builders for price comparison.

Excellent. I had an earlier design that Mr. Yancy refined/modified to simplify it and bring down the original higher estimate. He used high quality material and was a perfectionist on every detail. He is highly professional and employs excellent crews.
Description of Work: Designed and built a sunroom addition (one story off the ground).

All the work is outstanding and he is utterly committed to the quality of the work he does. He only makes promises he can keep, the work is done as scheduled unless weather causes delays. His commitment to quality is so high that he re-did a couple windows that frankly, I saw no defect with. He is not cheapest contractor you will find, but he prices are reasonable and the work is outstanding. Even a year after the fact, if a question arises, he responds immediately.
Description of Work: This was the third time I have used this company and this was for interior and exterior home repair after a tree fell on the house. Earlier, they had added a sunroom and replaced windows.
