River City Rubbish

Description of Work: I contacted River City Rubbish after speaking with a brick contractor about replacing a raised porch in need of repair. He suggested removing the existing porch and recommended this company that is listed on Angie’s List of approved contractors. The company advertises a 10 cubic yard unit for tighter spaces and this is what the brick contractor suggested as well. I asked if the unit could be placed in the front yard which is 3’ above road grade. There was no issue with placing it in the yard. Before ordering the unit I re-called the dumpster company and described in detail what would be loaded-a 8’x12’x30” raised porch with slab and the fill beneath. There was no issue with size as the company verified the 10 cubic yard size. When the unit was delivered on site, the driver asked if the fill would be included. I indicated that it would and he suggested leaving the dumpster as close to the road as possible and that a larger truck would have to remove it and that the company had larger trucks. After four hours I asked to have the unit removed and four days later received notice that I would have to remove half of the material since the dumpster was overloaded due to VDOT requirements of 5 tons. That information was incorrect since the limit is 10 tons. The instructions on the side of the dumpster state not to load above the top edge-exactly how it was loaded. The material, amount, size of unit, and location of unit were all verified before placing the order. Bob Watts
